"Did you enjoy that, Rebeck?" said Lucy.
"Yes indeed, you?"
"I've adopted the Chalet School practice of cold baths, but only on Fridays. It seems to improve my health somewhat"
"Oh perhaps I should try that, how is your gymnastics going?"
"Not too bad, perhaps I'll make the Olympics someday. Does your jellyfish sting still hurt?" Lucy laughed.
"That was'nt funny, you know" Rebecca frowned.
"Sorry, I was laughing at my gymnastic ability, fell off the double bars recently, not concentrating"
"Oh right, it does'nt but there's a scar on my leg. Definitely worse than when Roberta dropped the cat"
"Don't you think being a prefect has gone to Margot's head a little?"
"Yes, with Sarah Archer the other day she seemed to think she was in a prewar school scolding someone for slang" (Rebecca, Lucy, Margot and Sue liked school stories while Tish, Sally and Mara generally preferred pony books or adventure stories)
"Perhaps we should take her down a peg or two?"
"Could do"
As they neared Juniper House, Miss Welbeck rushed towards them with a grave expression, she'd guessed
where they were.
"Both Susan Murdoch and Margot Lawrence are in hospital with serious injuries after an accident on the M5, but thankfully their lives are both not in
danger"
The girls were shocked, Rebecca and Sally burst into tears.
Aba Amori's rusty Datsun drew up, she was surprised as well. The head scolded her for an obviously loose exhaust pipe before
departing, and the seniors all went to their rooms for the rest of the afternoon.
They finished their unpacking, then lay down for a while.
Eventually the dinner bell sounded, Rebecca was on duty outside the dining hall with Lucy.
