A/N: Filler chapter for my story: 24.
I know, I know, I kind of just left this story to die (like Marshall) after looking it back over and realizing that I didn't like it. I'm back now and am just going to do a filler chapter where we learn more about the Demon Queen and why she is unhappy about the bet at hand. I know I touched upon it in chapter 2 but I want to add more to that.
"Watching those two play is actually kinda cute." The queen admitted, idly stroking the soot colored cat on her lap, who had just returned from its own quest.
The cat purred softly, enjoying the attention it was now receiving from it's owner, but this was short lasted as the woman's attention suddenly went elsewhere. Specifically to a darkened corner of the throne room, that had not been there seconds earlier. The queen growled low in her throat and rose quickly, sending the cat off of her lap to go and hiss at the corner as if someone was there. Actually, there was, and she soon made herself known. This new comer was a tall standing woman, dressed in very formal business attire, whose purple color clashed horribly with her greenish blue skin. Her disproving red eyes, and not-a-curl-out-of-place hair bun only seemed to add to her business look, making her stand out quite harshly in this seemingly dead kingdom.
"The boy has grown in size and age, but never in attitude." The older woman's voice clapped loud like thunder, making the queen flinch.
"He was once one of them. A human never learns you know. Even in adulthood, they are nothing more but children when compared to higher beings such as us." The younger of the two women said, suddenly walking down the steps connected to her throne, trying to get away from the women and her corner as possible. "Now, Hannah you better have a very good reason for intruding in my lair."
"And yet you forget, you were once one to." Hannah Abadeer, said with a slight smile. "Oh, how you two would play your silly little games, maybe make some sort of silly bet for play money or transfer of responsibility when it came to chores. Those were the days, weren't they?"
"That is all in the past, it means nothing to me anymore!" She snapped in response, turning around suddenly and pointing a pale finger at the older demon. "I was a foolish child back then but no more! I am a queen now, a demon queen at best! No mortal memories are of my concern anymore"
"I've heard from a source how serious your current bet is, you know. Finish a bucket list at the cost of immortality, right?" She asks sounding a bit shocked but still managed to keep a firm and cool voice. "So you mean to tell me, that the life of your best friend means nothing to you anymore?"
"We're not friends anymore!" The younger woman growled lowly. "Now what is the real reason why your here? Is it to get me to call off the bet, because I won't!"
"What? I can't visit my favorite daughter anymore?" Hannah asks, adding in a touch of hurt to her tone , but the other can tell from the glint in her eyes that this statement is a lie.
"No mother! I told you that 1000 years ago!" The demon yelled, stomping her foot in anger. "And with that being said, your pleading for your son's life is just a waste of time on your end, Now leave my palace at once!"
The women bowed her head in a quiet nod and then slowly left to return to her corner. The demon queen turned an eye, and waited for a moment before peering over her shoulder. The corner of the room was no longer dark, meaning that her mother had left now, and by doing so, she had also left her daughter alone in an empty castle, for once feeling so very alone. This sense of loneliness was suddenly banished though, and the demon quickly fled the room, marching in swift strides to her large doors and throwing them open, her cat following quickly in tow.
"I was one of them at one point, but that was before I came to learn of how weak those humans are!" She spat bitterly at no one in particular, lowering her brows pointedly the more she spoke. "I begged for his life to be spared, and he repays me by going back to the very being I attempted to protect him from!"
She was furious now, if not at Marshall, than at the bet itself. She was being too easy on Marshall, giving him the simple task of completing a list in just 24 hours. Easy, so easy in fact that anyone could do it without problem. Especially considering the type of person Marshall was, one with no drive to do anything daring in life until gaining the ability to do it without any amount of harm befalling him. This is what made the challenge far to simple, and the bet fell into an unfair field with Marshall gaining the upperhand.
"That little cheat! All he set out to do as a mortal was probably court some girl or eat actual food again!" The demon queen shrieked, quickly coming to the end of the blackened hallway of hers and taking a sharp left, suddenly finding herself in front of a navy blue door (the only color splash within the whole castle) and effortlessly threw it opened.
Once inside, she glided into the center of the room, where a large book lay on a tilted pedestal. She threw it opened to a random page, and then started like mad to flip passed all of the pages, determined to find one that was sure to even the odds of this little bed.
"You are weak Marshall Lee, if not in mind then you are in strength." She hissed, finally stopping at the current page. "Heres a little twist to our game; You must complete all you set out to do as a mortal, with some obstacles to test your strength along the way."
She smirked down at the page, and cackled lowly as she tore the page out of the book and with that, she was off on her own quest.
