Chapter 3
The next morning Lee arrived at the halls of A. Nigma High. He was rummaging around his locker for his first period books when Cam came bustling over.
"Yo ese, what's up? So what's the plan for 'Operation: Find out Biffy's Crush'?" Lee smiled at his friend and gave a quick wave, closing his locker.
"Well, the direct approach is definitely a no-go. Biffy will just shoot me down at every turn." Lee thought carefully, any sort of direct approach wasn't going to yield any sort of results. Biffy, being the paranoid person he was, would pick up on any suspicious questions that might shed light on his little secret.
"Maybe we can go all, like, covert!" Cam said, striking inspiration, "Get the lowdown super spy style, man" Lee considered this plan. It sounded like just the roundabout idea they needed to get the info they were after.
"That may just work. Think your 'super spy skills' are up for the test?" Cam's face lit up with excitement.
"Totally dude. I was, like, born ready man." his latin friend stated with determination. Lee nodded, glad they had a plan of action put together to start off their search for information. And he trusted Cam would do his best to keep his intelligence gathering low-key. With any luck they should have some leads by the end of the week.
"Alright, your gonna haft to do this without me though. If Biffy catches a whiff of me on his trail he'll know exactly what were up to." his interrogation of his friend the day before was sure to brand everything he did as suspicious to his detention buddy. There was no way Lee could get anything on Biffy's crush himself without throwing up some major red flags. His headphone wearing friend nodded.
"I read you man. Don't worry, I'm supper stealthy. Dude won't ever know I was even there." with their plan laid out the two friends parted ways, Lee wishing Cam good luck on his 'Secret Spy Mission'.
Cam followed Biffy down the crowded hallways, doing his best to keep a safe distance without loosing sight of the big teen (witch really wasn't very hard). Cam was feeling quite proud of his spying skills, he had tailed Biffy across half the school and he had no idea he was even there. He was mussing to himself that it was probably his weirdly short legs that made him so stealthy when he realized his target had just disappeared around a corner. He dashed around the corner after him, but glancing around the hall there was no sign of Biffy. Cam was thoroughly confused, the kid was six feet tall and built like a brick wall. How could he just disappear? This question was answered by a big hand yanking Cam by his jacket and pushing him into a corner. He gulped as Biffy towered over him.
"Well hi there. To what do I owe the honer of being followed by the worst tale in the history of ever?" Biffy said, the statement laced with his trademark sarcasm. Cam swallowed, and laughed nervously.
"F-following? What makes you think I'm following you man?"
"Oh, I don't know. The fact you've turned the same three corners as me and have been hiding behind lockers the entire time." this time the annoyance was showing through Biffy's voice. He really did not like people treating him like an idiot.
"Chill big dude, I was just all, like, trying to . . ." Cam desperately scrambled for a lie to save his cover, "get to know you man. We should totally be way better ese's then we are ese." Biffy stared down at him with a look that said he had heard better lies from a kindergardener.
"Uh-huh, and I'm sure this in no way has anything to do with Lee trying to figure out my 'secret crush'." Cam winced at how badly he had been caught, but made one last desperate attempt to salvage the operation anyway.
"W-what?! N-no man thats crazy! Ehehehe . . ." The bigger teen stared down at him, it was sad really. Kind of like watching a struggling turtle that's been flipped over on its back. Biffy gave an irritated sigh.
"Do me a favor and tell Lee that if this is his best strategy, he really should just give up now." with that he turned around and stalked off down the hall. Cam hung his head, not looking forward to reporting back to Lee.
"Sorry, man. I thought my mad spy skills were too awesome to get caught. Guess there not as awesome as I thought." Cam said sadly after retelling the events of his encounter with Biffy, over their lunch. Lee set a hand on his friend's shoulder and gave him an encouraging smile.
"Hey, it's cool dude. Thanks for trying. I should have known he would expect one of us to be tailing him." Cam gave a small smile back and Lee moved his hand to his mouth, his usual pose when he was thinking.
"So what do we do now homes? No way either of us is getting near the Biffster without him getting mucho suspicious man." Lee nodded, still thinking hard as he pushed the mac & cheese around his plate with his fork.
"Yeah, if we want to get any info we need someone else to do the leg work. We need someone who can get to the bottom of things, someone who can chase down leads . . ." a moment of silence, then Lee smiled, scooping up some of the pasta and gooey cheese on his fork and looking at Cam, "And I think I know the person for the job."
The duo stood in the A. Nigma High News Room, waiting for Tina to finnish her argument with Chaz. Finally Chaz flippantly shrugged his shoulders and their reporter friend gave and exasperated sigh. She looked up and spotted them, giving them a friendly wave as she walked over.
"Hey Tina." Lee greeted as she came to a stop in front of them.
"Hey Lee, hey Cam. What brings you two here?" the dark haired girl inquired.
"Actually, we need your reporter skills." Lee informed her.
"Really, what do you want me to help dig up?" she asked, her interest peeked.
"Girl you won't believe it! Biffy is, like, totally crushing on someone!" Cam declared, unable to squelch his excitement. Surprise colored Tina's features as Lee nodded in acknowledgment.
"Yeah, but he wont say anything about it. We were hopping you could follow him, track down some leads to help us solve this?" Lee asked, hopping his friend wouldn't turn him down. Tina smiled.
"Well, you know I can never resist a good case." she said happily. The boys high-fived in excitement.
"Thanks Tina, oh and could you keep this on the down-low? I don't want this ending up as school gossip." It was true Lee was dyeing to know Biffy's secret, but not at the expense of making him the school's newest topic of ridicule. Tina gave an understanding nod.
"Not a problem, I'm an expert at keeping loud mouths out of the loop," she gave an annoyed glance toward the back of the room, where Chaz was making kissy faces at himself in his compact mirror. "Don't you guys worry, well get to the bottom of this little mystery."
Oh, jeeze. Where do I start? Well, I guess I'll start by apologizing for the fact that it's been an eternity since I posted the last chapter, I'm really sorry to all my wonderful readers for that ^^; The truth is when I started this I only really had the first two chapters planed out, and after they were done I had no idea where to go from there. So I took a breather to gather my thoughts and then my computer decided to die, witch left me without internet for a few months, and then school and holidays and I just plane forgot I ever wrote this ^^; I normally don't keep up with the content I put out because, honestly, it never gets noticed. I'm still very, very sorry I made you all wait so long. But, I promise this will not happen a second time because I have come back refreshed and have plotted out all the chapters to the conclusion of this little story. As it stands this is going to have 7 chapters in total. I'll try to get this up in it's entirety within the next few months. So please try to stick with me to the end. No more disappearing, I swear!
