Chapter 3: Let the Games Begin

"Alright Weasley, if that's the way you want to play it then it's on."

Those fateful words began an all out prank war that rattled through the Weasley home the entire month of July.

The once silent, though slightly tense, atmosphere that had settled over the house has morphed into one of short tense periods of waiting between the shouts of victory and colorful strings of profanity that now echoed all the way to the family ghoul in the attic.

Both Ginny and Draco were constantly on edge for fear that the next corner they would turn would attack them with an itching curse or a raging case of bat bogeys.

Everything was fair game. Perfect bleach blond hair was magically dyed bright blue. Razors that were normally spelled to leave perfectly smooth legs now tried to bite.

One night Ginny's bed tried to smother her and another day Draco was glued to his breakfast chair for twenty-four hours.

Most meals needed to be thoroughly inspected before ingested. These particular pranks got to the point that even Fred and George would have shuddered in fear at what they could possibly place into their mouths.

A lovely, fluffy batch of eggs caused Ginny to gain three hundred pounds. Draco curiously spent an entire day plagued with every single symptom that could be found in a Weasley's Wizarding Weazes Skiving Snack Box. Two days after that particular incident, Draco joyfully watched Ginny spend one rather annoying day with no use of any of her motor skills. And Ginny's favorite day was the one she spent with her new pet, a fluffy white ferret with a bothersome tendency to try and bite.

But despite all the horrors they brought upon one another, surprisingly for both of the players, with each prank that was carried through to completion a small piece of the complete hatred they harbored for each other was turned into a tiny spark of respect. Through the pranks they learned to appreciate each other slightly and eventually even learned to laugh together.

This feeling of appreciation was not shared by the matriarch of the house, though. Every prank was followed through to completion irked Mrs. Weasley more and more, so by the time August rolled around she could no longer stand it.

The piece de resistance that forced Mrs. Weasley to snap was when she was standing at the bottom of the stairs to call them for lunch when both Draco and Ginny rolled down two flights of stairs to her feet. Both were highly disheveled and trying to choke each other and not laugh at the same time.

"THAT IS IT!" Mrs. Weasley thundered. Immediately both Ginny and Malfoy ceased their antics and stared at her from the flat of their backs. "Both of you get out of this house! I cannot take this anymore. I am enlarging your containment area. You can go anywhere on the grounds but do not come back to this house until dinner or I will hex you both into an oblivion." She then stomped back to the kitchen.

Ginny and Draco starred after her for a few moments still snickering to themselves. Then Draco looked at Ginny. "So, what do we do now?"

An evil chesire grin spread across Ginny's small face. "Now, we go flying."

--

Ginny soared through the air. Wind whipped past her face and caused her bright shock of auburn hair to look like a flame as it swept out behind her. Ginny loved every second of it. It was the best feeling in the world.

It had been months since Ginny had been able to go flying due to a certain blond ferrety problem and now, being back in the air, she realized just how much she had missed it.

She had also missed her broom. Harry had given Ginny a Nimbus 2002 for her last birthday, which meant that for the first time in her life she didn't have to snitch one of her brother's brooms in order to play Quidditch. She had named it Amelia because she always named the objects that she was really fond of. The broom, Amelia, also came in very handy when Ginny was named Quidditch captain for the Gryffindor team in her final year at Hogwarts. It helped her to lead them to a Quidditch cup.

A few metres to her left, Draco raced along beside her, appearing to be enjoying the opportunity to take in some fresh air and flying after being cooped up inside the Burrow with extreme cases of cabin fever for six weeks.

But as much as he loved being in the air, Draco was not enjoying the fact that he did not know where they were going. When Ginny had first mentioned flying he had been in complete agreement with the petit redhead, but right afterward she dragged him out to the broom shed and told him she had a surprise. Over the last few weeks Draco had come to view Ginny as a force of nature that could not be stopped, so those words coming out of the little firecracker's mouth could not in any way be a good thing.

But he had followed her anyway. Now they had been flying around the grounds for twenty minutes and Ginny did not appear to have any interest in landing anytime soon.

Finally, Ginny landed in a clearing in the middle of the forest that was on the edge of the Weasley property. When Draco touched down himself, he dismounted his broom and gazed at what he saw.

In the middle of the clearing was a crystal cleat lake fed by a little waterfall all surrounded by large gray boulders.

"Wow," he said sounding almost impressed. "How'd you find this place?"

"Well, I used to wander in the forest while my dumb brothers practiced Quidditch and one day I found the clearing. It just seemed to me to be the perfect hiding place where I could practice without my brothers finding what I was doing."

"So you learned to play Quidditch here?"

"Well not learned but this is where I honed my mad skills." She smirked at him.

"Why wouldn't your brothers let you play with them?" It didn't make sense to him why a family so infamous for churning out Gryffindor team members would try to exclude the child who was always the best of the lot.

"Because I was the itty bitty breakable little girl of course. I might get hurt if I played nasty, rough Quidditch." She said as she pulled the long thick curls in to a messy bun on the top of her head.

At this Draco let out a bark of laughter so loud that he startled Ginny as it echoed around the little lake. "Breakable? Are we talking about the same Ginny Weasley? Because the one I know has, herself, hurt more people in one game then most do in a whole season. She was and probably still is the most feared chaser in the history of Hogwarts. Bloody little bitch had my huge, mean Slytherin chasers scared to death every time we had a game against Gryffindor. It was actually rather amusing."

Ginny grinned at him, rather proud of her reputation, before punching him rather hard in the arm. "What do you mean I'm not breakable?"

"Oww! Ok, ok you win." He laughed at her again.

"I thought so." She turned away from him and walked over to a small boulder where she kicked off her flip-flops. She then proceeded to unbutton her jeans and slide them off her hips and down her long legs.

Draco's pale eyebrows shot up so high they disappeared into his platinum blond hairline. "What are you doing exactly?"

Ginny kicked her jeans away from her and then pulled her long blue tank top over her head revealing matching black cotton bra and panties. "We're going swimming of course."
