CHAPTER 2
Dilemmas of Monsters
"Come on out. You're going to die anyway." Ghoul Hunter requests. The night sky now illuminated the river of blood that was the alleyway. Looking at the alleyway, it's the same place that Harro's Group was located earlier that day. Ghoul Hunter looked up at the full moon that glistened beautifully in the night sky. It made him smile as he thought of someone special. He listened for the movements, despite the euphoria of nostalgia.
In that moment, one of the masked men from earlier ran at Ghoul Hunter with a Kagune Blade running down his arm. He aimed for the gut, but Ghoul Hunter sidesteps the attack, touches the blunt end of the blade and pushes it down, forcing it to run into the ground. Ghoul Hunter takes his blade and decapitates the ghoul with it. The head rolls onto the ground with little mess. "I heard two more. Cmon, keep the blood flowing." Ghoul Hunter called out with a flat voice, "Oh and maybe be a bit more… entertaining than your friend here." he added as he kicked the head in the direction of one of the landing spots of a ghoul.
"Bastard!" One yelled from above, also from earlier. Ghoul Hunter raised his sword. With sound of meaty rip, blood dripped on his hood. He made the ghoul impale itself with his sword. As he was about to rip out his blade...
"You humans are a plague on this world!" a single tailed kagune ghoul ran at him.
Ghoul Hunter scoffs, "And you are merely a plague on humanity." He discards the blade and jumps up, placing one leg around the ghoul's neck, he tightened his leg grip until eventually he hears the sweet sound of relief. Snap! Ghoul rolls of the ground, and when the ghoul lands, he takes a mighty stop on its head, knocking it out.
Ghoul Hunter looks behind him, met with the face of a Ghoul Investigator from the CCG, carrying a briefcase. "The one beneath my foot is alive. He is a member of The Followers."
The Investigator stepped forward. "T-thanks? But uh, you are a ghoul, right?"
"That's the mystery. Humans think I am ghoul. Ghouls think I am human. But what am I, really?" Ghoul Hunter spoke to him. "Here, take him into custody before he wakes up, get as much information." Ghoul Hunter begins walking away.
The investigator looks at the ghoul, but then back up, "Hey wai-" he looks around, "Huh? Where…?" The Ghoul Hunter was gone.
Ghoul Hunter had fled to the rooftops to escape quickly and after reaching a certain distance he dropped down and ran into a sewer system. Upon closing the grate and descending to the ground, he sighed. Ghoul Hunter stares blankly forward. He begins to pack his gear and uniform into his bag, switching to a more casual attire to blend in with the normal crowd. His face was covered by the various pipes and splashing sewage.
10 Minutes Later…
Mikari was in a car with the investigator who was on the scene with the Ghoul Hunter. "So, are we going to the CCG headquarters or something?"
"Yep. We are going to get your rc cell count tested, question, and then I am going to put that ghoul in a holding cell to get him to Cochlea." He paused for a second, "Not in that order,"
"Hm. I have records, but I suppose that they tend to get forged alot," Mikari muttered to himself. "The Ghoul Hunter, by the way, he didn't get hit at all to regenerate, nor did he have a kagune. Do you reckon its possible for him to be human?" he asked.
"The Ghoul Hunter is a… strange case that we have. We aren't sure if he is Ghoul or Human or… whatever else he could be. But that is some decent observation skill on you. You looking to be an investigator?" the investigator asks.
"Yeah. It's been a dream of mine for awhile. I want to be the one that identifies the Ghoul Hunter and catches the Chameleon. Ambitious, yes, but I feel like I could do it." Mikari answered.
"It's good to dream. Hey, look, when we get inside and clear you up, I will give you my recommendation, tell them that Sori Hakoiyomi vouches for ya, and you'll likely get a job here." Sori chuckles.
"S-seriously? Just like that?" Mikari asked, surprised.
"Yeah. But there's a catch to it…" Sori sucked his teeth. "A surgery that makes you into a living weapon, essentially. It's called the Quinx Program."
Mikari narrowed his eyes. "I feel like I've heard of it. A program that makes you more ghoulish. Grants a Kagune, but retaining the ability to eat normal foods." Mikari pondered. "Maybe. The extra edge would be helpful. On the other hand, I risk losing my humanity." he looked out the window, seeing the CCG skyscraper's lights gleaming on the streets below, as well as the river connecting the Second and Eighth wards. Mikari smiles at the view. He was a sucker for the night lights on a lake.
2:00 AM
"The world is revolving in a chaotic way. There is no right or wrong side. Just beasts trying to survive while riding on the high horse that the others are the monsters." it spoke behind the glass of his cell in a demonic and distorted voice.
"The only monster here is you, Snake." the interrogator insulted calmly.
"Thanks for proving my point." Snake spoke. "I don't know what you are hoping to accomplish for keeping me alive. Give me the slightest chance of escape, and I will." he added. "And I will devour the Ghoul Hunter. He is my prey, and I shall feast."
"Actually, about that. You saw his face, didn't you? The Ghoul Hunter's?" the investigator asks.
"I will not confirm nor deny that. You don't deserve whatever information I may or may not have." Snake snarled. "I won't let you monstrosities taint my meal."
"Why do you want to eat him so much? Aren't you both ghouls?"
"Whether he is human or ghoul is unimportant. He smells delicious. I want to devour him. The best meat is on the small but strong. Don't you agree?" Snake asked.
"Wha-"
"You were eating piranha meat today. It was a treat of that lady friend of yours. Fisherwoman. Jiro was her name?" Snake taunted.
The Investigator stands and leaves.
"Such an adult. Learning to choose your battles and leaving if you are bothered." Snake sneered as the investigator left.
2:45 AM
Harro laid in his bed, staring at the ceiling as he tried to fall asleep. He couldn't. His leg bounced furiously, symptoms of anxiety or an adrenaline rush. It didn't matter which, either way he was unable to sleep.
Tap tap tap.
Harro glanced at his window, the direction in which the tapping came from. He walked over to it and looked outside. A silhouette stood in front of it and pressed their hand on the window. Their ring finger was folded into their hand. Harro recognised the gesture. "The Rabbit." he muttered to himself. What does she want?
Author's Note: I have a universal oc, that I use for just about everything. A female character that wears a bunny mask, a white hoodie with rabbit ears, etc, etc. The character is not inspired off of Touka, despite how it looks. Different kagune, appearance, personality, and goal. There are other differences to that I don't feel like getting into just yet. Anyways, sorry for the wait. I was busy for last week and a half with personal issues. Progress on the story will be resumed at a more regular rate. Well I can't promise that, but I can say I will try.
