A Brighter Future
Chapter 3; Jade Saves the Day
After my girl came home and fell apart in my arms because of her dreams becoming crushed, I decided to do something about it.
I tried cheering up last night, but even sex couldn't take her mind off of things. I can't blame her though, she had an opportunity that seemed legit turn into a scam. Quietly, I slip out of bed, kiss her forehead and go downstairs to make us something to eat, in hopes that maybe she'll feel a bit better.
I set the table after making breakfast, a nice little meal consisting of french toast and bacon, her favorite. It took a little while since I'm lacking in the culinary department. I even had time to go ahead and started looking for jobs in the newspaper while she was still asleep.
Tori emerges from upstairs, probably due to smelling food, which is surprisingly not burnt. She looks adorable as always, with her mustache robe and messed up hair. However she's smiling, despite her disappointment.
"Food, I knew I loved you for some reason." She says, and I laugh, serving her a plate. "And you didn't burn down the apartment, I must be dreaming." Tori adds.
"Oh shut up and eat your bacon, Vega."
"Gladly."
After breakfast, I clear the table, and sit down with Tori on the couch, presenting her with the highlighted page of job ads from the paper. She stares at it for a moment, looks at me, and smiles that gleaming white smile.
"Thank you babe, let's take a look at these." She says, and I spread out the paper on the coffee table for her.
"Maid? Really Jade?!" Tori says, glancing down at the ad I highlighted several times and drew a winky face next to.
"I thought you'd look sexy in one of those French maid outfits." I flash her a smirk, which leads to a punch on the arm.
"Let's be realistic here." She says, scanning down the columns. "What about this one? They need a musician at this bar/club place who can sing or play music every other day. Preferably young performers with original music." I suggest, pointing to it.
"Sounds perfect. At least I'll be making some money and performing my music a bit." Tori says.
"That's my girl. Start off small, end up big." I give her a reassuring smile, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
She nestles in, "You were right, I'd be completely lost without you."
"I know, and same with me. You are like my compass, always guiding me in the right direction."
"Aw Jade, that's so sweet."
"Tell anyone and I'll cut you up into tiny pieces." I say, smirking.
"So romantic you are." Tori deadpans.
I chuckle, kissing her forehead. "I love you baby girl, and things are going to work out for us. Just wait and see. Just because you struck out once, doesn't mean you shouldn't keep going."
A warm smile spreads across Tori's lips, "I won't. Thanks to you."
*A Few Days Later*
Tori and I arrive at the bar/club a few days later, so Tori could perform for the people that hire the acts. I came along for support, and maybe to talk the bartender into giving me a beer.
I helped Tori set up a few things, before sitting down at one of the tables to watch her. She introduced herself to the crowd, who all seemed to be interested in her. I mean who wouldn't be? She's cute as a button and has a personality to match it.
"Well it's great to be here guys, thanks for giving me the opportunity. Hopefully most of you are sober enough to remember this performance, and me, Tori Vega." she said, earning a laugh from the audience. "I write all my music, so hopefully you like it."
She then started to sing, and people seemed to be enjoying it. I certainly am, I love hearing Tori sing. She has such a passion for it, and is an excellent song writer. Every ounce of herself goes into her music, it's so raw and perfect. Tori is perfect. I watch as she sings a more upbeat and dance like song, and soon begins to dance a little herself. She smiles and the audience actually claps along, swaying to the beat that my girlfriend creates.
Tori finishes her performance, smiling from ear to ear. The response to her music is outstanding, people are clapping and cheering. The manager of the bar/club looks pleased, nodding her head in approval as Tori steps off the stage, guitar in hand. I greet her with open arms, "You were amazing baby girl!" I say, kissing her softly.
"Thank you! It felt amazing!" She hugs and kisses me back.
"Excuse me, Tori right?" Tori turns around as the manager approaches us.
"Yes, you must be the manager, Lacie, right?" The woman nods, "You were incredible up there. The audience loved it. What do you say about being our Monday, Wednesday, and Friday performer?" Lacie asks.
"Oh my gosh I would be honored! Thank you so much!" Tori says, shaking Lacie's hand.
The older woman smiles politely, "Great, you start Wednesday at 7:30. Be here by 7 though so you have time to set up. And if you don't mind me asking, is this your girlfriend?"
"Yes, this is my girlfriend Jade. She actually found your ad in the paper." Tori takes my hand, squeezing it.
"Hi, nice to meet you." I say, squeezing Tori's hand back. I'm not really good with new people.
"Nice to meet you too. My wife and I just celebrated two years together." Lacie smiles, nodding towards the bartender who waves at us.
"That's so sweet, congratulations." Tori replies, surprised and relieved that Lacie isn't homophobic and doesn't mind her being in a relationship with a woman.
"Thank you, she's my pride and joy. Well, I should get back to work. See you both on Wednesday?"
"Of course, thank you so much again." Tori shakes her hand once more, and so do I.
"No problem. Take care now." Lace smiles and heads over to her wife, greeting her with a kiss.
"That's going to be us one day, all cute and married." Tori says, squeezing my hand.
I chuckle, kissing her cheek and carrying her guitar case for her as we head outside to hail a cab. "We won't be cute, we'll be hot." I say, trying to get a cab's attention.
"Right." Tori laughs, and a cab stops for us to hop in. We do so, and arrive back at the apartment within a few minutes. The city isn't as traffic ridden today surprisingly.
Helping Tori get out, I can't believe that things are actually working out for her. Not that I doubted it, but I'm happy she's finally getting a shot at showing people what she's capable of. She's extremely talented, and if the right people come along and listen to what she has to say, there's no doubt in my mind that she'll be famous.
Hello guys, hope you all had a great Christmas or other holiday. Sorry for the lack of updates once again. I just don't have as much time as I'd like to. But I'm break now so hopefully I can update a few more times. Thanks for all your support otherwise!
