Wilbur watched as the light pulsed across the sky. He couldn't believe this. How in the world could this have happened? Weren't things bad enough? Now he had to hope they didn't pick up that signal and… oh, who was he kidding. With his luck they were already on their way. He suddenly felt someone grab his hand. "Cuff him, quickly!" A guard shouted as he tried to force Wilbur to the ground.
He turned and managed to push the guard away, and then raised his weapon. He flinched slightly when ten more guns were pointed right back at him. "Drop the weapon and get on the ground right now!" Another shouted. Wilbur looked around to see if there was any escape route, but he was totally surrounded.
The thought of fighting his way out of this crossed his mind, but he didn't think that would put him in good graces with the Incredibles, so he dropped his weapons. "Wait a second, why are you arresting this boy? He just helped us." Helen said clearly confused.
"He broke out of the interrogation room!" One of the guards said approaching Wilbur.
The Incredible family turned back towards the boy who was wearing an annoyed expression on his face. "Look guys, I seriously don't have anymore time to waste here. If you'd just let me over there I can prove to you that-" They heard a loud rumbling, and suddenly the robot rose up from the ground. "Are you kidding me?!"
It sped towards them and began firing, but Violet put up a force field. The robot stopped only for a moment, before firing a beam. This one was colored differently from the others, and the minute it made contact with the force field it shattered. Violet flew back and was caught by Bob. Wilbur reached for his weapons, but a just before he could a blast from nowhere.
The blast sped towards the robot and destroyed what was left. Everyone covered their eyes from the explosion and then turned to see a woman standing on a nearby building. After blowing the smoke off her weapons, she jumped down and hovered to the ground with rocket boots, just like Wilbur's. Wilbur grew a smile on his face. "Mom!" He ran over towards her.
The guards looked ready to stop him, but Helen raised her hand signaling for them to stay. She recognized the look of a worried mother when she saw one. "Oh Wilbur! I was so worried! I wasn't sure if you'd survived the crash or not!" She said hugging him.
Wilbur laughed. "C'mon, I'm your son. You don't think I'd die that easily do you." He said before pointing to his wrist watch. "I used the force field generator before I hit the ground. I got a bit roughed up, but it cushioned the fall enough for me to survive."
She smiled and ruffled his hair. "That's my baby boy." She said pointing to her own watch. Great minds think alike. I guess I got out of it a little better than you did though."
Wilbur then noticed something moving on her back. The little girl who had come with them was clinging onto Franny's shoulders. "Hey, she survived. I wasn't sure if you'd made it to her in time or not. Good to see you… Maggie?"
"Mina." The girl corrected.
"Right, sorry." Wilbur said awkwardly.
Bob glanced over towards Violet. "What the heck is going on here?" He muttered.
Violet brushed a strand of hair from her face. So this was his mother? She guessed her really had been telling the truth then. "I think… I think this kid is actually from the future."
"What?" Dash said clearly confused.
"She's right." They all turned and saw Rick approaching. Wilbur was about to walk towards him, but one of the guards cuts him off. Rick lifted his hand. "Leave him be. We contacted Cornelius Robinson, and he's confirmed your story. We're bringing him in for DNA testing, but from what he's told us so far, it seems like we're dealing with real time travelers."
Everyone turned towards Franny, Wilbur, and Mina. "Cool…" Dash said.
The next two hours had been spent filling in the gaps of their stories. Wilbur and Franny answered all the questions they had about the future. Well, all of the answers involving the invasion anyway. They didn't want to tell them anything that could alter the future too much. The most awkward moment was when Dash asked what had happened to them.
"We died?! Are you kidding me?!" Dash said not willing to believe what he just heard.
Wilbur scratched his cheek. "Well, technically I don't know what happened to you and Violet. I guess you could still believe somewhere or… nah, you're probably dead." He said once he saw the unsatisfied look on the boy's face.
Bob looked down at the table sadly. They died? He couldn't believe that. His family had been killed. Even if it was in the future, that meant at some point he had failed to protect his family. "Don't blame yourself." Franny said. He looked up at the woman. "Everyone lost loved ones, and there was nothing we could do about it. The important thing is that we can stop it now."
Helen placed a hand on her husband's arm. "From what you said they don't invade for another twenty years. That's more than enough time to prepare for their arrival." She reasoned.
Wilbur sighed. "We may not have that much time anymore. That robot I destroyed out there was a scout, it must have somehow followed us through the time stream. Because I could destroy it completely it sent out a homing beacon. I'd like to say that there's no way they can pick up a signal twenty years from the future, but I'm usually never that lucky."
"So they could already be on their way? That sucks." Dash said.
"We do have a plan though." Franny explained. "Like we told you earlier, the aliens took over so easily because they studied us years beforehand. They made underground bases and replaced key political figures. They learned everything about us, and then destroyed our defenses from the inside out."
Wilbur nodded. "We can't see why they wouldn't use the same strategies. So the idea is to beat back their undercover forces. It'll delay their invasion, and give us a fighting chance."
Franny put her finger on a device and a hologram appeared. "These are the locations of the bases they'll use, along with some other areas that they would likely inhabit. There's also a list of the officials they replaced. Of course most of these people aren't in power in this time, but they'll probably be going for the same positions."
Rick looked at the holograms and grunted. "This is valuable information. But it's also, as of right now, top secret. If word of this got out, then there'd be mass panic."
Franny nodded. "Understandable. But we will need a team to work on this. And not just you're average agents. I know they're probably well trained and all, but this is a little above their paid grade. We need supers for something like this."
"We're supers." Bob pointed out.
"I know, but we need more." Wilbur said. "You guys are legends as far as Supers go, the best of the best. But this is not something that you can handle on your own. We need all the supers we can to help us."
"Well, that's tough, because there's a huge shortage on supers at the moment. I'm not sure if you're aware, but three years ago a man named Syndrome hatched a plan that led to the death of numerous supers. There aren't many left, and even fewer who were willing to come back after being shunned for so many years." Rick explained.
Wilbur smirked. "Well then, there's some good news." He poked the device and the hologram changed. A number of faces appeared. "Here are a number of supers that we recruited over the years. Some of them are natural supers, others lab accidents gone wrong. But I think we should be able to get them to help."
Bob looked at the images. He didn't recognize any of these people. "These people are from your time so… they would only be kids right about now."
"Teens actually." Wilbur clarified.
"You want us to recruit a bunch of rookies to help fight off an alien invasion? That is the only plan you could come up with?" Rick asked.
Wilbur frowned. "Well excuse me for trying to find a way to prevent the end of the world. In the time we targeted for they would have been in their prime, but seeing as we're low on supers and don't have many options, I'd recommend taking what you can get."
"I'm really not okay with the idea of putting young people's lives in danger." Helen said.
Wilbur looked towards Violet and Dash. "Could have fooled me…" He mumbled.
Franny elbowed him. "Mind you manner." She scolded. She turned back to the others. "We realize that this may be asking a bit much, but believe us, it'll work. These kids grow up to be some of the earth's greatest protectors, even before the invasion. They've proved themselves already. We just have to give them the chance to do it again."
"We'll think about it." Rick said getting up. "Until then, we're going to monitor all the political leader that could be in danger. Double up their protection and keep a close eye on them. We also have the drone wired up in the lab if you want to check it out. Maybe you can help figure out how far the signal got."
"Sounds great, but is there someone I can catch some sleep? I've had a kind of busy day, and I'm really tired you know." Wilbur said yawning.
Rick just stared at him for a few seconds. "One of the guards will escort you to your bunk."
Wilbur got up and began backing out of the room. "Well, it was wonderful to meet all of you, especially the legendary Incredible family. Glad we could make so much progress in one day, and I guess I'll catch you later." He said waving.
Franny knew her son was up to something, she could hear it in his voice. But at this point and time she had other things to worry about. "I want to take a look at the drone." She said. Rick began leading her towards the lab, Mina followed, leaving the Incredibles to themselves.
"What do you think?" Bob asked.
"I'm still not sure about recruiting children." Helen said. Bob knew how worried she was about this. It took her some time to get used to the idea of Dash and Violet fighting crime, and it was still unsettling to her.
Dash sighed. "Mom, it's not like we got much of a choice. I mean we fight crime all the time and we're just fine." He said casually. "Besides, maybe we can form a team. Like the Teen Titans."
Violet rolled her eyes. "This isn't some comic book Dash. The world could be at stake." She said before turning to Helen. "But, he does have a point. You trusted us to step up when we needed too, I'm sure these kids could do the same. Besides, we don't know if the aliens will show up soon. It could be years. By then they'd be more than ready."
"I suppose you're right. If they're going to get into the hero business anyway it'd be better to have someone to guide them. Besides, you two could have supers around your age to hang out with." Helen said.
"We'll finish talking about this tomorrow. Until then let's head home and get some rest. You kids still have school tomorrow." Bob said. Dash groaned as they got up and made their way out of the door.
Violet sat in her room and flipped through her match textbook. One thing she hated about hero work was that it ended up leaving her little time for schoolwork, and more often than not she ended up staying up late to finish it. But her parents made it clear that if her homework fell behind, she wouldn't be allowed to continue fighting crime.
But she was having a hard time focusing on equations after everything she heard today. An alien invasion. It sounded like something out of a movie. If she hadn't seen everything she had today she still wasn't sure she would believe it.
There was also the chance that she would be meeting others supers. Sure, she knew a few of the older ones her dad used to know back in the day, but never one in her own age. She would actually get to meet other supers going through the same thing she was. It was a little exciting, she secretly hoped they would let this plan go through.
"Watcha thinking about?" Dash asked from beside her.
He always ended up zipping into her room before she even noticed, but by now she was so used to it she didn't jump in surprise anymore. "Do you really have to ask?" She said not even bothering to take her eyes off her homework.
There was silence after that, which was strange when Dash was involved. "So, you really think we're going to be able to meet other supers? Like, ones our age and stuff?"
Violet looked a bit surprised. She smirked. "What's the matter? You scared you won't be a quickest kid on the block anymore?"
Dash waved her off. "What? Of course I will. I'm just… you know, curious I guess. The only other kid super I know is you, and you're my sister so you don't count." He said leaning against the wall. "I wonder what they're all like."
"Probably like us." She said flipping to the net page.
"Only not as awesome." Dash said flexing his arm.
"Or as modest." Violet added smirking at him. He blew a raspberry as her and she rolled her eyes at him. She then closed her book. "Done. Now I'm going to go get some ice cream."
Dash chuckled. "Ice cream before bed? Well, look who's starting to break the rules a bit?"
Before they could leave the room, they heard a tap on the window. They both quickly turned around and were shocked to see Wilbur outside. He smiled and waved at them. "He's a stalker…" Violet mumbled.
Dash zipped over towards the window and prepared to open it. "Dash, don't just open the window! We don't even know why he's here!" Violet snapped.
"That's why I'm opening the window, to ask him. Duh."
He opened the window and Wilbur made his way inside. Violet narrowed her eyes at him. "How did you get up here? We're on the second floor, and there isn't anything to climb out there."
Wilbur pointed to his feet. "Rocket boots." He said smirking. "Also, would you mind keeping it down? I don't want you parents to know I'm here. Something tells me your dad wouldn't be so happy finding me sneaking into his daughter room."
"Speaking of which, why are you sneaking into my room?" Violet asked crossing her arms.
"That, is an excellent question." He said walking towards them. He put his arms around both their shoulders. "How would you two like to help me do something reckless and dangerous?"
"I'm listening." Dash said smirking.
"Not interested." Violet said brushing his arm off her shoulder.
Wilbur sighed. "Look, just hear me out. I need your help recruiting the other supers." He said. "I know you probably think the government should be deciding and handling stuff like this, but trust me when I say that these people aren't really… government people."
"What does that even mean?" Violet asked.
"A lot of these people are pretty much outcast. Heck, most of their parents weren't even supers. Well, they were supers but they didn't sign up with the NSA and… the point is, if the NSA just sends Rick or some guys with suits to recruit these kids, chances are they're not going to want to tag along for the ride."
"And you think we can convince them?" Violet asked.
He nodded. "You two are supers, you're like them. If anyone can convince them to come then it'll be you two. So what do you say?"
Dash opened his mouth to speak, but Vi cut him off. "We say no. We can't go behind everyone's back and do some crazy plan that the government might not even approve."
"Oh c'mon Vi, don't be such a wet blanket." Dash said.
Wilbur ran his hands through his hair. "Look, I'm asking you to trust me on this. It's our best option, and once we bring these guys together you'll see this is the right move."
"I can't Wilbur. This is just too crazy. I mean, I can see if you wanted to them to be found by other supers, but we can't just leave the NSA out. Why don't we talk to my parents and-"
"Are you going to tell on me?" Wilbur asked.
"What?"
Wilbur turned back towards the window. "I'm going to do this whether you're in or not, but if you're going to tell on me I may as well get a head start."
Before she could answer Dash stepped forward. "I'll help."
"Dash!"
"What? He's going to do it anyway. We may as well give him a hand and make sure he doesn't screw it up too bad. Besides, I want to meet some of the other supers."
"Alright!" Wilbur said holding his hands out. Dash gave him a high five. "So, I got one Incredible on my side. How about it Vi? You want to help out?"
Violet just stared at them. She sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. Dash was enough to deal with, but this Wilbur kid was even worst. "We're not going to recruit them. We're just going to TALK to them, explain the situation, and then let the NSA handle the rest."
Wilbur raised his fist in the air. "Two for two! We'll start tomorrow."
"We're gonna make a team!" Dash cheered.
"We're just talking to them." Violet reminded.
The two didn't even seem to acknowledge her, too caught up in their own little celebration. "I hear noise up there, what's going on?" Helen's voice called.
Wilbur took that as a cue to leave. "See you guys tomorrow. I'll meet up with you after you're done with school." He stepped back out of the window turning on his rocket boots, then flew off.
"That guys cool." Dash said chuckling.
"You're only saying that because you two are cut form the same cloth. You're both troublemakers." Violet said clearly irritated with this whole situation.
Dash just shrugged. "Guess there's that too."
Scourge was furious. No, furious wasn't the right word. He was absolutely livid. That wretched human, that filthy little earth monkey, actually managed to get away from him. Ever since he's come to this planet, that fool had been a thorn in his side. If he had the chance he'd have wiped him out from the very beginning.
He heard footsteps behind him and turned to see Brutus. "What do you want old man?!" He snapped angrily.
Brutus just stared at him calmly. "Such a young hotheaded fool you are." He said. Scourge just snorted at him. He hated working with Brutus. At first he jumped at the chance to work with a decorated veteran conqueror. But he soon realized how annoying the old geezer could be.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to start acting like a solider, not a spoiled brat. If you'd have taken a moment to inspect the area instead of just running out in a fit, you mind have gathered a few clues as to their whereabouts."
Scourge quickly stomped up to him. "Where?! Where are they?!"
"It's not a where. It's a when."
Scourge's eyes widened and he looked in the doorway and saw a tall, familiar figure. Scourge quickly got down on one knee and lowered his head. "Commander Cypher. I had no idea that you were on your way here. I would have-"
"Get off your knees, and dispense with the formalities." The figure said sternly. "I understand that you're having trouble, and are frustrated. To say I wouldn't be in your situation would be a lie. But take Brutus words to heart. He has gained much wisdom throughout the years, and still retains the strength from his youth."
The figure walked over and patted Brutus on the shoulder. "It is good to see you old friend." Brutus greeted. "Do not be too hard on Scourge. He may be hot headed, but he is also strong willed and does his job well. He has suppressed the earthling rebellion with ferocity I had only seen in your youth."
"So I've heard." Cypher said turning back towards Scourge. "Do not fret son. We thought that any form on time travel technology was well beyond human comprehension. No one could have seen this coming."
"Time travel?" Scourge asked.
"Yes. It appears the humans have gone back in time to rally their fallen heroes." Cypher explained. "Fortunately one of our drones managed to follow them back. It was destroyed, but managed to send out a signal. Luckily one of our scientist managed to pinpoint it's location, as well as the time period it landed in."
Scourge balled his fist up. "I'll go back and destroy the earth whelp!"
"All three of us will." Cypher said nodding towards his son and Brutus. "Bringing the armada back will alter the timeline too drastically. The three of us will go back and find the two earthlings. We will end them, and erase the memories of anyone he has revealed the invasion plan too."
"And what of the heroes he'll have already managed to rally?" Brutus asked.
"We will kill them as well. Four or five less supers won't make a difference." Cypher said. "Are you ready to a little hunting trip son?"
Scourge smiled to himself. Wilbur thought he could escape through the timeline did he? Well he would hunt that primitive monkey down yet.
A/N: Scourge and the others are on their way back to the past to find Wilbur! What'll become of our time traveling hero?!
Well, there's the third chapter. I hope it doesn't feel rushed. Now at first this story was going to be a stand alone, but I've decided to make it part of a trilogy. It'll be the first in what's hopefully going to be a long line of stories.
The next chapter will feature the first member of the team. I know most of you will know who it is, I think. I'm sure once you see you'll be pretty excited, because you'll figure out who else will be in the story, as well as the trilogy.
