Chapter 2: World Peace
Alfred trudged to class in a sleepy manner. He almost was at the point of having to physically grab his legs and make them walk as to not be late for class. He finally reached his locker and entered the combination twice before getting it right. Arthur walked up to the locker beside Alfred and began with his usual, "Good morning, Alfred. Sleep well?"
The comment was usually shrugged off or groaned at, making Arthur's green eyes grow and his thin lips pout. His usual insults and chatter about Alfred's rudeness were normally ignored by said American. Today, however, Alfred began speaking about some bad dream he had. It was something with the end of the world, ghosts, and a vampire hunter who was actually a vampire himself. The silly thought almost had Arthur rolling his eyes. The Englishman assumed it was Alfred staying up late to play video games. It wasn't a rare occurrence.
"It was just a dream, Alfred. There are no such things as ghosts or vampires. We must get to class soon. I hear we're talking about that Russian politician in Homeroom today. Apparently, he's uniting the world. It seems world peace isn't that far off. The thought of world peace is nice, but seems unlikely. Besides, some countries just can't get along. For example, Russia and America are definitely not in a great relationship. And there's that entire spiel with the tension-filled Middle East. There's also the idea of Japan and China constantly warring with eachoth- Alfred, are you even listening to me?"
Alfred muttered a slight agreement to whatever Arthur was talking about along with an indifferent shrug of his shoulders. He wasn't listening at all, however. In the American's mind, it was much too early to talk about politics of all things.
"Since you refuse to listen about the important things," Arthur rolled his eyes, huffed, and readjusted the brown, red, and yellow plaid backpack that was beginning to slide down his shoulders. "I'll see you in homeroom then."
Before Arthur was out of hearing distance, Alfred yelled, "Yeah yeah, eyebrows, see you then." This caused the Brit (who did have enormous eyebrows and apparently trimmed them nightly) to stop walking, turn around with a murderous glare, and stalk back to where Alfred was standing. Before long, Alfred and Arthur were at each others throats, arguing about every fault the other had. There was a fury of tan skin on pale, sandy and golden hair being yanked, blue eyes meeting green, and glasses clattering onto the floor. Soon, the halls began to look more and more empty, so the two men stopped trying to choke each other (Alfred cussing the Briton out as he grabbed his glasses) and began to rush to class, hoping to make it on time.
Homeroom was one of Alfred's favorite and least favorite classes. It was his favorite because the teacher was a super young and cute (and very big-breasted) Ms. Braginsky. This, however, was contradicted by the reason Alfred despised this class: Ivan Braginsky. Alfred was fine with his sisters, Natalya and whatever Ms. Braginsky's first name is (Katyusha? something Russian like that), but Ivan was like a nightmare. The two were almost ironically nice to each other. They were always smiling with the other. Their smiling faces were always complimented by sweet words of sarcasm and a dash of hate. Alfred would love to choke Ivan with his own scarf, however Natalya, his younger and very loving sister, would surely kill Alfred to repent. Ivan's smiling features were no strange occurrence however, as he smiled with everyone. However, under the childish smile, Ivan's eyes never smiled. They were cold, purple, distant, almost as if they were stuck in Russia under tens of thousands of feet of snow. To play into the idea of Ivan being like snow, he had hair of winter white and his smile was as if it was frozen upon his face.
Alfred, like the sun, tried to melt Ivan's frozen heart and become friends. The Russian would have none of that. He was cold-hearted and there wasn't anybody who could change that about him. Not Alfred, not his sisters, nobody. It was a sad fact that Alfred learned the hard way. When he learned it, however, he didn't take it easily. He began to despise the Russian, and soon it was a fact to anyone who went to Hetalia Academy that Ivan and Alfred didn't get along. It was a feud that was similar to a war.
Homeroom, like Arthur had claimed earlier, was buzzing with gossip about Viktor Morozov. Ms. Braginsky was at the front of the classroom, trying to quiet down the excited kids in the classroom. She was speaking a multitude of languages, fearing that somebody might not understand her if she only spoke her native tongue of Russian or her second best language, English. In the back corner of the room, Ivan sat quietly, a small smile plastered to his face. He had no words to say, however he was greatly pleased to be surrounded by his "friends." These friends included Toris Laurinatis, a Lithuanian with a kind heart, and Eduard Van Bock, an Estonian who's technology knowledge surpasses even Alfred's.
Alfred walked to his seat and set down his things with a large huff. He stretched, about to complain loudly when a buzzing noise interrupted him. It was the PA system of the academy. For a moment, everyone held their breath, not knowing what to expect. The PA system only went on in the school when either a teacher was fired or hired, or somebody was in trouble. This announcement was different, however. It was a unfamiliar male voice on the speaker. Normally, the female principal would say who and what. The male voice was a thick Russian accent that echoed through the halls. Alfred felt himself shiver. Cold. Ice cold. The voice had no sense of warmth to it. It was commanding, strong. Alfred felt himself cringe. The announcement was in Russian, which Alfred didn't understand. He looked around the room, seeing a lot of faces looking at the speaker. Then, his own blue eyes met Arthur's green. Those emerald eyes were showcasing the same fear Alfred was feeling. Alfred walked towards the Brit with caution when the announcement concluded speaking in Russian and began speaking in English.
"People of the world. It is I, Viktor Morozov, prime minister of Russia. I invite all of the world to join me in uniting the world under one name. We'll be called Odin Mir, or as you English-speakers say it, 'One World.' World peace is in our grasp."
Alfred moved closer to Arthur and whispered to him, "His voice is beautiful..."
Arthur muttered back, "I think it's evil..."
