Chapter 3
Bonnie didn't move an inch as Damon entered the room hoping he would take the hint and leave but the silent request was denied.
Bonnie tried to ignore the intruder's word,s but failed hearing Damon say Elena's name. Her fingers dug into the armrests of the chair, restraining herself from forcibly removing Damon from the room.
The room became soundless as Damon began to exit. Just as Bonnie began to release the armrests she heard her mother's name slip pass his lips and she snapped.
Bonnie moved in a speed that was foreign to her, but she didn't stop. Her fangs elongated as she plunged her right hand into the unsuspected blue eyed vampire's back, wrapping her left around his neck, nearing her lips to his left ear.
"Don't you ever say my mother's name again," she whispered harshly. "Do you understand?"
"Bon-" Damon started to choke out, but stopped when he felt Bonnie give his heart a squeeze. His knees buckled from the intense pain, a tear escaped his eye, but he was somehow able to remain standing.
Footsteps reached Bonnie's ears, but her hand stayed in its place. She wanted him to feel the pain she felt when she found her mother's body. To see his body crumple from her torture. The temptation of pulling his heart out was extremely strong, but something was holding her back. She didn't know what that something was, but it didn't stop her from slowly pushing her thumb into the center of his vital organ.
"Bonnie?" Stefan said, cautiously moving toward the duo. "Let Damon go."
Elena stood behind Stefan with her hand over her mouth in disbelief of the screen before her.
Bonnie's eyes flickered to Stefan and Elena, her face returning to normal as she calmly spoke into Damon's ear once more. "Do you understand?"
"Yes," the blued eyed vampire spat out, still in great pain.
"Let him go, Bonnie," Stefan repeated slowly. His attention shifting between her and his brother.
Bonnie's gaze fixed on Elena for a brief second before looking at her right hand. She slowly retracted her thumb from Damon's heart, her hand exiting his body.
As soon as Stefan knew Bonnie's hand was from Damon, he yanked his brother from the new vampire and dragged him downstairs before Damon could bring any harm upon Bonnie.
Elena remained in her place as the brothers left, focusing on Bonnie who was staring at her bloody hand. Elena hesitated before speaking. "Bonnie?"
At the sound of her name, Bonnie's eyes snapped to Elena. Blinking rapidly she released a shaky breath. "I..." Bonnie began to say but stopped when Elena took a step toward her. Bonnie moved back and quickly closed the door to her new room.
Bonnie glanced down at her hand, ignoring Elena who was calling out for her from behind the locked door and rushed to the bathroom. She bit her lip to contain the sob that threaten to escape, watching the pink tinted water swirled in the sink.
Bonnie caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and stopped moving. Eyes lined with tears, cheeks flushed, with damp hair, this was the first time seeing herself since her transition and anger started to seep into her system.
Her eyes widen as she watched veins appear above her cheeks. Before she could see her face fully transform her right hand punched the mirror breaking it into pieces, and the sob was released.
:::::
"Who the hell does that witch think she is?" Damon fumed as Stefan pushed him outside.
"Well not a witch," Stefan stated, closely watching his brother pace.
Damon scoffed. "Well that vampire, that new vampire at that, was this—" he held up his thumb and index finger to demonstrate how much. "—close to killing me. Once I get my hands on her-"
"You won't touch her," Stefan announced in hard tone that startled Damon. "What she did, she had every right to do. If she wanted to do the same to me I would stand there and let her and not whine like a bitch after."
A wave of possession covered Damon at Stefan's first statement. "'You won't touch her'," Damon mocked with a tight smile. "You say that as if she yours."
Stefan let out a chuckle with a head shake. "No. No, we both know that if she was, you would be all over her just like you are with Elena."
Damon opened his mouth to reply, but was interrupted by a slightly familiar voice. "Excuse me," the voice said. The Salvatore brothers turn to see Lucy standing before them. "Is Bonnie here?" she questioned bluntly.
"So it seems Elena was able to get in contact with you," Damon commented, giving her a once over.
Lucy gave the eldest brother an incredulous look. "Obviously," she stated. "Now did Bonnie change into a vampire? I have something for her." She spared a glance at their home. "I went to the Gilbert's house and the boy didn't know where she was located. So for a second time: Is Bonnie Bennett here?" she articulated with a slight edge to her voice.
Damon narrowed his eyes at her tone. "Whatever you need to give to Bonnie you can give to us."
Lucy shook her head with a scoff. "I don't think so," she muttered as she bypassed the brothers, making her way toward their boarding house.
The seasoned witch was able to make five steps before the blue eyed vampire appeared in front of her.
"Damon," Stefan voiced but one look from his brother told him to remain quiet, for now.
Damon focused back of Lucy. "You think that you can just show up-"
"I didn't just show up anyway," Lucy interjected. "The doppelganger asked me to be here for Bonnie. So I'm here for Bonnie and Bonnie only. So you can either move out of my way willingly or I can force you. And believe when I say I won't have a problem forcing you to move, but you on the other hand…" she let her sentence hang, letting him produce his own imagination.
When Damon didn't respond Lucy cracked a tiny smile, moving around Damon and walked toward the front door of the boarding house.
Damon turned to watch her walk away, a walk he now coined the Bennett walk.
Stefan appeared beside him. "We should get inside," Stefan supplied.
:::::
Lucy entered the house with a sigh. She wanted to do what she was asked and leave before anyone could catch interest of her. Especially with all the original running around Mystic Falls. Lucy didn't understand how Bonnie could stay in a place that was literally filled with all of the most powerful vampire.
The doppelganger came into view once Lucy arrived in the living room, with a distraught look etched on her face.
"Lucy," Elena exclaimed, relieved that the witch was able to make it. "Thank you for coming."
"Where's Bonnie?" Lucy questioned, wanting to skip the greetings.
Elena glanced at Stefan and Damon who just walked into the room. "She upstairs now," Elena delivered in a nervous tone.
Lucy studied Elena for a moment before speaking. "Did she complete the transition?"
Elena's hands began to fidget as she spoke. "Um, yeah she's-, she's a vampire now."
Damon scoffed and chimed in. "What Elena meant to say is that she forced her blood down Bonnie's throat, turning her into a vampire. Which, might I add, resulted in me having her hand wrapped around my heart when I mentioned her mother."
Stefan rolled his eyes. "Bonnie's not in a good place with Elena or Damon right now so I'll go and get her."
Lucy nodded sending a glare in Elena's direction. "You do that," she said to Stefan.
:::::
The water ran down her body as she tried to keep her emotions under control. She felt so lost and alone. What she wouldn't give to have her Grams arms around or even her father's. She needed someone to hold her just for a second.
Caroline, she thought as the last of the soap fell from her body down to the drain, ignoring the small ache in her throat.
Just as Bonnie turned off the water she heard a knock on the door.
"Bonnie?" Stefan soft voice echoed into the bathroom.
Bonnie hesitated before answering. "Yes," she said in the same soft tone, briefly wondering if he would be able to hear her voice.
"I know you're cleaning up but Lucy is here and she want to see you. There's no rush, okay? Just come down when you're ready."
Bonnie's mind went to an earlier scene from the night when Elena mentioned that calling Lucy.
"Bonnie?" Stefan questioned when he didn't hear a response.
Bonnie shook her head, trying to get rid of a tearful Elena. "Um, yeah. I'll be down in a second." She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her body.
"Okay," Stefan said. "And if you need anything just call my name and I'll be here, alright?"
Bonnie bit her lip, fighting back tears, thinking that there was so much that she needed but nothing he could provide except one thing. "Stefan?" she called out no longer able to ignore the ache in her throat.
"Yes, Bonnie."
"I...Um...I need..." Her voice breaking before she forced the words out. "Blood. I need blood."
Stefan could hear the reluctance in her voice and responded as gently as he could. "Alright. I'll be right back."
Once Bonnie was sure Stefan wasn't at the door she exited the bathroom and made her way to the bed that held her clean clothes.
Her hands shook as she dried off and began to dress. She didn't want to face Lucy, she didn't want to see the disappointment or disgust that Bonnie was sure would appear.
Bonnie let out a shaky breath and flopped down on the bed trying to ready herself for the inevitable. Her head fell into her hands as she let her mind wonder, trying to distract herself from the dryness in her throat. She didn't want to be this creature, but she knew she had two choices in the matter: deal with it or end it.
Images of Bonnie driving a stake into her heart flashed before her eyes making her flinch. She knew she wouldn't be able to complete the task of ending her life. Her head turned to the window that held the darkness of the night. Before Bonnie could continue her thoughts there was a knock on the door.
"Bonnie?" Stefan questioned.
Bonnie answer the door. "Hey," she greeted softly, her eyes drawn into the glass of blood confined in Stefan's hand.
"I think we should start with the bag blood tonight and then tomorrow we'll go out hunting. Okay?" Stefan decided.
A grimace carved itself on Bonnie's face but it soon transformed into a longing look once the smell of the blood reached her nose.
Bonnie eagerly stretched out her hand to seize the glass from Stefan only to have the cup to be pulled further from her reach. Her eyes flashed to the youngest Salvatore brother.
"The glass, Stefan," Bonnie said softly, but the command was still there.
With caution Stefan slowly gave the blood to Bonnie and watched her veins make themselves known as she allowed the red liquid to enter her mouth.
The blood was gone within seconds. The ache no longer present but she wanted more.
"We'll get you more when you finish with Lucy," Stefan said as if he was reading her mind.
Bonnie pushed the cup back to Stefan, stopping herself from thinking about what she just did. "Okay," she said in a small voice.
With his free hand Stefan reached out to Bonnie.
:::::
Lucy said nothing as she waited for Bonnie.
She heard the doppelganger exhale loudly. "Again thank you for doing this for me." Lucy said nothing, so Elena continued. "I could tell on the phone you didn't want to come, but thank you."
Elena spared a glance at Damon waiting for a response but Lucy just fixed her with a cold stare.
Their heads turned hearing footsteps.
"Bonnie," Elena breathed out as her best friend came into view. She stepped forward but stopped at the warning looks she received from Stefan and Lucy.
Damon's eyes tightened seeing Bonnie's hand in Stefan's. His jaw clenched in order to stop himself from ripping his brother away from Bonnie. Damon blinked at the startling thoughts that entered his mind. He forced himself to focus on Elena.
Yes, Elena, the blue eyed vampire thought to himself. The girl he's been longing for over a year. The girl that cared for him despite all the horrible things he brought upon her.
Damon took a silent but deep breath, forcing himself to become indifferent about the newly turned vampire.
Bonnie had yet to look at Lucy. She felt Stefan gently squeeze her hand. He gave her an encouraging nod when she met his gaze. She dropped his hand and step forward to her cousin.
"Hi," Bonnie said looking at Lucy, uncertain of her reaction.
Lucy gave her a small but genuine smile. "It's good to see you again."
Bonnie's lip twitched, failing to form a smile. "You too. But why are you here?"
Lucy's gaze connected with Elena's for a second before she focused back on Bonnie.
"You friend asked me to bring you something," she reached into her jacket pocket. "Something that you're in need of."
Bonnie watched her cousin produced a ring. But not just any ring. A ring with a lapis lazuli stone in the center.
The witch held the ring out for Bonnie to get, but the vampire just stared at the ring.
Lucy spoke softly. "Bonnie?"
The girl in question eye's snapped to Lucy's.
"Take the ring," Lucy ordered in a firm tone.
With a shaky hand, Bonnie presented her palm, wanting Lucy to drop the ring in her hand.
The others looked on quietly as the ring fell in Bonnie's palm. Her fingers closed around the circular object, her hand fall to her side.
The ring in Bonnie's hand felt extremely heavy. Instead of feeling grateful the feeling of dread and defeat sunk in. She gave Lucy a painful smile. "Thank you."
Lucy could see the conflict in Bonnie's eyes but chose to not speak on it. "You're welcome, Bonnie," she grabbed Bonnie's hands. "And if you need anything I'm just a phone call away.
Bonnie stiffened when Lucy's hands touched hers, but she remained still. She glanced around the room, noticing everyone was staring at her. She turned back to her cousin. "Let me walk you out."
Lucy nodded and walked to the door without sparing a glance at the trio, with Bonnie following behind her.
Once they reached the front door Lucy faced Bonnie. "And if you need to get away you could come stay with me," she suggested. "I know a thing or two about helping a new vamp," she added trying to bring a smile upon her cousin's face.
Bonnie hesitated before speaking. "I'll think about it."
Lucy studied her cousin for a second before she stepped forward giving Bonnie a brief hug. "Well, I guess I'll see you later."
Bonnie tentatively raised her arms to return the hug, the ring still in her hand. "I guess," Bonnie sniffed, suddenly having the urge to cry.
The Bennetts dropped their arms and stepped back from one another. Lucy gave Bonnie one last smile before reaching for the door knob.
As soon as Lucy opened the door she came face to face to a frantic looking Caroline.
"Where's Bonnie?" the blonde questioned in a panic voice.
Upon hearing her name and the tone of Caroline's voice, Bonnie moved from behind Lucy.
"Caroline? What's wrong?" Bonnie asked as she scanned her best friend's body for any injuries.
Relief flooded Caroline as Bonnie came into view. She opened her mouth but closed it when she noticed something off about Bonnie.
"What-" Caroline stated but Lucy cut in.
"She's a vampire," the witch announced.
Caroline's eyes widen at Lucy's statement. She shook her head mouth agape as she searched for Bonnie's denial.
"Oh my god. Bonnie? How did-" her gaze moved from Bonnie to Elena who was followed by Stefan and Damon. "How did this happen?" She directed the question to Elena who was expressing a one of the saddest expressions Caroline has ever seen on her.
Bonnie looked the other way as she waited for the girl she once called her best friend explain her current state, the ring still buried in her hand.
"Yes, Bonnie, please be a dear and tell us how you got yourself into this predicament," Tyler stated, anger dipping from his words.
Bonnie's head snapped in the direction of Tyler's voice and knew Klaus was still taking residence in Tyler's body.
She grabbed Caroline's hand pulling her to her side, stepping slightly in front of Lucy. "What are you still doing inside of Tyler? The deal was that you'll jump into the first available body."
Elena clueless of the switch, wanted an explanation. "Bonnie, what is going on?" she questioned.
"Can someone please tell me what is going on?" Damon demanded.
Klaus ignored their questioning and let out a dark chuckle looking around at the group of supernaturals in front of him before settling on Bonnie. "Seems to me like you're in quite a bind, and unfortunately for you, I'm in one of those ties."
Caroline glanced nervously between Klaus and Bonnie, fearful of what the hybrid may do to her best friend. "She's not a witch she can't put you back."
"It doesn't matter if she's a witch or not," he replied, stepping into the boarding house. "We have a witch here that I'm sure could do the job."
"She doesn't know the spell and she's not doing that kind of magic," Bonnie fumed hating the helpless feeling that swarmed around her. She was able to once bring Klaus to his knees but now all she could do is throw around words that held no true meaning to them.
Tyler's eyes shifted from Bonnie to Lucy, a dark smile appeared on his face. "She's not, is she?" he asked in a teasing manner.
Before anyone could do anything, Klaus sped over to Bonnie, his hand gripping her neck, forcefully moving her to the wall furthest from the front door.
Bonnie's head hit the wall her igniting a sharp inhale from her. Her eyes snapped opened finding Tyler's face hovering hers.
"Bonnie!" Elena and Caroline yelled as they both took a step to help their friend but was held back. Caroline by Lucy and Elena by Stefan.
"Klaus," Stefan warned as if saying the original name could possible help the situation.
Lucy who was holding Caroline back with a simple seizing spell, immediately sent the hybrid aneurysm after aneurysm trying to weaken the hybrid. He groaned at the pain but tighten his hand around Bonnie cutting off her oxygen supply.
"One more popped blood vessel; one more move from any one of you and she gets one of my loves bites," he proclaimed to the bodies behind him. He turned back to Bonnie. "And we wouldn't want that, would we, Bonnie?" he teased with a haunting smile.
Damon, being the closet to Bonnie, immediately thought of a way to free her from Klaus' hold. Briefly asked himself why would he want to save her when not even an hour ago her hand was holding his heart. For that he had no answer, but he was sure he'll find out the why later, now he needed Bonnie next to him, alive.
Bonnie said and did nothing as Tyler's eyes continued to stare at her. The urge to protect her people was strong but she knew she could cause little to no damage.
Klaus noticed how unresponsive the new vampire was to his violence. He thought that maybe it was because she just lost all of her power and there was no way of getting it back. One of her hands was clutching something while the other was gripping his wrist. She wasn't clawing at him to escape like all his other victims. She stayed in his hold unmoving. But Klaus knew her Achilles heel: everyone but herself.
The original tilted Tyler's deciding to take a different route. He released Bonnie who inhaled sharply for a breath. Before she could rise to her feet on her own, she felt someone hands grasp her waist. Her head rose to see Damon with that familiar expression upon his face.
Damon placed Bonnie behind him allowing his eye to roam over her body. Once he made it to her face she gave him a nod, silently letting him know she was okay.
Everyone gave Bonnie a quick glance noting that she was physically fine before returning their attention to the hybrid, while Elena lingered on Damon's hand that was holding Bonnie's wrist. The doppelganger shook her head slightly trying to clear her thoughts giving Klaus her attention.
Tyler's gaze found Stefan's who was still standing protectively in front of Elena, anticipating his next move. He gave the youngest Salvatore a small smirk leaving him slightly perplexed. "Alright then," the original mumbled as he extended his claws, impaling them into Tyler's chest.
"What are you doing?" Caroline shrieked in horror as she watched his fingers go further into Tyler's chest.
A painful grunt left Tyler's mouth. "Ripping out Tyler's heart."
Bonnie moved to stop Klaus but was unable to get anywhere with Damon's hand holding her in her place. She gave him glare as she continued to try to break his hold on her.
"Let me go," she demanded through clenched teeth.
"Not going to happen," Damon declared with a glare.
Bonnie opened her mouth to object but Klaus continued to speak. "I'll jump into someone else," he eyes found Damon's. "Maybe you and I'll do the same to you." He ground Tyler's teeth as his hand seized the young hybrid's heart. "You know you're still on my list of vampires to kill."
"Oh my god," Elena gasped in fear of Damon's life. "No," she whispered.
Lucy stood there watching in disgust as the original continued to hurt not only the boy's body he was possessing but his friends especially Bonnie. She wanted to help but she knew the magic she possessed wasn't enough to do anything and the risk of the consequences that followed the use of dark magic was too high for a boy she never made contact with.
"Stop! You're killing him!" Caroline yelled.
"You can't jump from body to body. You need a witch to do that," Stefan chimed in, trying to find a way to save Tyler.
Klaus gave Stefan a wicked smile through his pain. "And what makes you think I don't have one?" He gave Tyler's heart a tug forward. "Or ten? Bonnie! Lucy! His blood will be on your hands!"
"Alright! Fine!" Lucy yelled out, unable to take it anymore.
"What?" Bonnie whispered in disbelief.
"Good," the original approved, pulling his hand from Tyler's chest igniting a sigh of relief from Caroline. "Let's begin."
Yanking her wrist from Damon's hold, Bonnie moved to Lucy. Tears begin to fill her eyes. "No. No. You are not doing this," she lectured. "You are not going to risk punishment for my doing."
Lucy went to reply but Elena decided to jump in. "Bonnie it's the only way to get him out of Tyler's body without harming anyone."
Damon shook his head at Elena's attempt to get on Bonnie's good side. He looked over at his brother who let out a sigh of frustration but kept his eyes on Bonnie awaiting her reaction.
Bonnie's nose flared as Elena's voice hit her ears. She rotated to face Elena, veins coming into view as she spoke in a calm voice that put the Salvatore brothers on edge. "Without harming anyone? Do you not remember Jeremy? Me bringing him back to life? What the spirits did to him? To me?" she took a forward, veins still present. "Do you know the pain I went through to bring back your brother?"
Everyone including the hybrid stopped to watch Bonnie. Elena opened her mouth to speak but Bonnie's raised a hand to stop her.
"No, you don't know. Because you were too busy taking caring of him," she pointed to Damon whose eyebrows shot up. "Someone who killed your mother and don't forgot that he slept with her, killed your brother in front of you, killed Alaric multiples times, who hurt Caroline, who has made it his life goal to destroy your relationship with Stefan."
Caroline was completely confused as to why Bonnie was so angry at Elena's statement, but remained quiet waiting to see if Bonnie would mention anything about it.
Klaus could see that she was on a roll and interjected before she could continue. "Bonnie, dear, as much as I would love to watch this cat fight, you and Lucy have things to attend to," he announced, letting amusement swirl in Tyler's eyes.
Bonnie took a deep breath, her glare still fixed on the doppelganger as she swallowed her anger. "Alright," she began turning to Lucy. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I'm sure," Lucy said. "Let's get this over with. I really like to get home," she gave her cousin a small smile.
"Klaus you need to kneel before Lucy and relax," Bonnie said, staring at the hybrid with hard eyes.
Klaus did as instructed and listened as Bonnie recited the spell to Lucy.
Everyone looked on as Lucy placed her hands on Tyler's head and spoke the spell.
Nothing happened when Lucy reached the end of the spell. Her hands tighten slightly on Tyler's head as she closed her eyes and repeated the spell again.
Bonnie watched from the side, waiting for Tyler to appear. Her worry grew when nothing happened. Just as she was about to speak a familiar tickle gazed her ears making her freeze.
Lucy's eyes shot open feeling the same tickle.
"Bonnie?" Caroline whispered noticing her friend's stillness. She tried again when Bonnie didn't respond. "Bonnie? What's wrong?"
Bonnie again said nothing, her gaze remaining on Lucy.
"Nothing in happening, Bonnie," Klaus said.
"Bonnie?" Lucy questioned with a slight panic. "I don't have to do this. I can stop."
"Bonnie? What is doing on?" Damon questioned, once again feeling left out.
Stefan tried. "Bonnie?"
Conflicted, Bonnie's eyes shifted to Klaus who was analyzing her. She could tell that it would only take seconds for him to start threatening Tyler's life again.
Bonnie looked back at Lucy. "Do it."
Lucy waited for five seconds before reluctantly shutting her eyes, granting Bonnie's request. "Bonnie Genevia Bennett, descendant of Ayanna, accepts the punishment that will fall upon her for her actions and involvement."
Bonnie eyes closed as Lucy's words sunk in, she could feel the stares of her friends on her.
With her hands still on Tyler's head, a frown planted on her face, Lucy recited the spell on again.
The air in the room shifted as the spell was complete.
Bonnie's eyes opened just as a gasp escaped Tyler's mouth.
"Oh god," Caroline whispered as the hybrid's eyes snapped opened, landing her of form.
"Caroline," Tyler breathed. "Hey." He got up to reach Caroline, but fell unconscious onto the floor.
"Tyler!" the blonde vampire yelled, rushing to his side.
Bonnie gaze returned to Lucy who was still chanting. She moved to see if Lucy was alright but she felt a hand on her shoulder. Bonnie thought it was Damon trying to stop her from reaching her cousin but as she turned around her saw Shelia with a grim look on her face.
Bonnie breathing stopped.
"No. No! Please no!" Bonnie yelled as dark veins appeared on her Grams.
Everyone looked on confused at Bonnie's yelled unaware of what was happening to Bonnie. Lucy stayed in her place knowing there was nothing that she could do to help.
"Bonnie!" Elena shouted.
Sheila hands captured Bonnie's wrist. "They're punishing you by punishing me."
"No. Please don't do this," Bonnie lifted her head to the heavens, tears cascading her cheeks.
"There's nothing you can do," Shelia yelled. "You accepted the punishment Bonnie."
"I'm so sorry, Grams. I'm so sorry" Bonnie apologized.
Bonnie eyes widen as she watched her Grams scream out with pain and without warning Sheila disappear. Bonnie collapsed on the floor with a heavy sob. "What have I done?" she whispered, her tears staining the Salvatore's wooden floor.
Lucy moved to comfort her cousin. "Bonnie, she may have been in pain for that moment. It may have stopped once she left," she soothed.
Bonnie shook her head, tears continuing to fall. She rose from the floor and walked out heading to her new room, ring still taking residence in her hand.
"Can you please explain to me what just happened?" Damon asked Lucy once Bonnie was out of the room.
The witch let out a sigh rising to her feet. "The spirits wouldn't allow me to dabble in the dark magic to complete the spell unless Bonnie agrees to accept punishment from them."
Damon cursed Bonnie for accepting such bullshit agreement. He wondered how she could be so stupid to even take that offer into consideration. Tyler's death wouldn't have stopped the world from spinning. "What the hell is wrong with her? She and Tyler aren't even that close for her to accept something like that."
Caroline sent the blue-eyed vampire a glare running her hands through the hair of the still unconscious hybrid.
"I really need to teach her a few lessons on how to be selfish," Damon uttered. "Because if it was me, the hybrid would've died," he finished with a carless shrug.
"Damon," Elena chastised moving her eyes to him from Bonnie's exit point.
"No one really cares what you think, dick," Caroline hissed before turning to Lucy. "Is Tyler okay?"
"He's fine," she assured. "He'll wake up in about an hour or two. The spell tired out his mind and body."
The blonde let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you."
:::::
The soft pillow wasn't fluffy enough to distract Bonnie from the pain she was experiencing. It was just becoming too much. From Elena's betrayal to the spirits hurting her Grams, Bonnie felt like she was suffocating from the amount of emotions weighing her down.
A thought quickly inserted itself in her head. A solution.
The switch.
It would be so easy to be free of what she was feeling, to not have to truly deal with her issues at hand.
Stefan came to the forefront of her mind. She remembered his demeanor when he wanted her to open the coffin, how empty his eyes were whenever she looked at him, demanding her to complete the task he had given.
Could I really turn off my humanity, Bonnie asked herself.
No. She wouldn't do that to herself. The pain and angst she was feeling probably was nothing compared to the torment Shelia was receiving. If her Grams couldn't get out of her suffering then Bonnie decided that she couldn't either.
With sigh the last Bennett placed the daylight ring on her finger, hoping she was making the right choice.
:::::
She was relieved that Lucy was able to leave town unharmed last night, but now she was regretting her decision not to leave with her.
The sun shined bright as Bonnie's gaze volleyed between the Salvatore brothers as she sat on their couch; the youngest stood to her right, the oldest to her left. She suppressed a shudder as her gaze found the spot her Grams stood in. She pushed the thoughts of her Grams away and focused on the brothers.
"You're making a big mistake," Damon informed, looking at both his brother and Bonnie.
"No, I'm not," Stefan countered. "If I can get her use to animal blood right out the gate-"
"You're reaching," Damon injected.
"Maybe she'll be able to bypass all the things we went through," Stefan continued sparing a glance a Bonnie whose fingers where tapping her thigh.
Sick of dealing with Stefan, Damon turned to Bonnie. "You need human blood, Bonnie, from the vein."
"Damon," Bonnie sighed.
"No, no, no. Don't 'Damon' me, Bonnie," he said, bringing himself to eye level with her. "You know what I'm saying is true. You hated my kind, why, because we drink from humans. You are a vampire now, Bonnie, you need human blood. And if you do this stupid animal blood bull, trust me, you're going to be miserable."
Damon could see that Bonnie was processing what he said to her. He knew Bonnie saw the truth in his words.
"So why don't you and I go find some nobody and have us a drink," Damon prompted.
"Damon," Stefan warned.
The blued eyed vampire went on ignoring his brother. "And I'll teach you how to really control yourself."
Bonnie and Damon stared at one another for a moment before she spoke. "If there's a chance that I can do this, being a vampire while being on animal blood I'm doing it." She saw that he was about to interrupt so held up her hand. "I couldn't take it if I killed someone," her eyes closed. "I know I look calm right now, that I'm handling all of this well but I..." Bonnie stopped, opening her eyes to look at the brothers. She took a deep breath and continued. "I'm kind of freaking out a little because I don't know how I'm supposed to be a..." She stopped again unable to say the word yet.
"Bonnie," Stefan began to say but stopped seeing her shake her head.
"Can we go?"she asked the youngest Salvatore.
"Yeah, yeah," Stefan rushed out. "Let's go."
Bonnie looked at Damon who was staring at her before rising to her feet, making her way to the front door Stefan following behind her.
Damon said nothing as the duo left him alone. He stood in the silence running his hands through his hair as Bonnie lingered in his mind. He was secretly hoping that she would pick him to feed with. He wanted to see her in this new element. Damon would never tell anyone but Bonnie was absolutely alluring when she's in the zone as a witch. And now he's alone while Stefan is able to watch the new vampire in action. He hands clenched thinking of Stefan with Bonnie. Before he allowed himself to further process his thoughts on Bonnie and his brother, Damon grabbed his jacket and headed for the Grill.
:::::
"So it's pretty simple," Stefan started. "First you need to know how to run at vampire speed, which is easy. Then I'll catch something for you to feed on and then you can try catching one yourself if you feel you could," he finished, searching for confirmation from Bonnie.
Bonnie bit her bottom lip taking in what Stefan said, wondering if she was truly ready for this, if she would ever get use to feeding. She released a breath before nodding to Stefan.
The oldest vampire took the youngest by the shoulders, seeing contemplating look on Bonnie's face and spoke gently. "We will go as slow as you like, Bonnie."
"No, no," she shook her head. "I'm just...I...you know what, let's just get this over with."
Stefan gave Bonnie a soft smile before giving her shoulders a squeeze. "Alright," he released his hold. "It's like the starting line of a race. So you just push off with every ounce of strength that you have."
Bonnie was nodding before Stefan could finish his sentence. "I think I know how to do it."
Stefan gave her a confused look.
She avoided his gaze for a moment before looking back at him. "With Damon," she simply explained. "And no I don't want to talk about it," Bonnie announced after seeing his facial expression.
Stefan said nothing as he motioned her to run.
She took a deep breath, putting herself in the running position and shot off.
Stefan stood in his place as Bonnie disappeared and reappeared in front of him with a small but genuine smile displaying on her face.
"So how was it?" Stefan asked, his lips curling up.
Bonnie's eyes narrowed as she searched for the right words. "It was," she paused. "nice."
Stefan's smile grow, happy to see her happy.
Both vampires heard a twig snap. They turned in the direction of the sound and saw a deer consuming grass.
Stefan spoke quietly to Bonnie. "Stay here."
Bonnie complied as Stefan sped to the unsuspected deer knocking it to the down, holding it in place.
"Come here," Stefan said to Bonnie who stayed in her place staring wide eyed at the animal. "Bonnie?" Stefan tried again capturing her attention.
Bonnie's eyes found his as she hesitantly walked toward Stefan.
"I don't know how to do this," she whispered, kneeling next to the deer.
"I'll come to you. Once you smell the blood you'll know what to do," Stefan commented placing Bonnie's hand on the deer.
Bonnie took a deep breath before leaning down, the smell of the animal's blood filled her nostrils. Her nose crinkled at the earthy smell the blood gave off. Her eyes meet Stefan's who gave her an encouraging nod. Though the smell was nothing compared to the human blood, Bonnie closed her eyes, her fangs extended and bit into the flesh of the deer, allowing its blood to filler her mouth.
:::::
"So what are these again?" Matt questioned.
"They're paper lanterns," Jeremy explained. "The student council made them after the Memorial. We light them up in honor of all the dead."
The two humans continued to load the boxes in the car.
"How is Bonnie doing?" Matt asked, worry itched on his face.
Jeremy stilled for a moment. "I don't know. Elena looked kind of dazed when she got home. I asked her what happened and all she said that it was her fault then she went to her room and locked the door."
"And Stefan? What did he say?"
"That Bonnie completed the transition with Elena's blood."
Matt eyes widen in surprise. "What?"
"Yeah, I know. He said that something happened last night and she's still adjusting. Saying that it's best for me to away for now, which is why I'm here now trying to distract myself."
Matt let out a sigh, returning to their task at hand. "Sorry, man. I didn't mean for you to get upset about it." He paused. "But Bonnie, a vampire," he shook his head. "I never thought that would have happened."
"Me either," Jeremy agreed, his eyes wondering off. "Me either."
:::::
"Did you do it?" Elena demanded as she began to sit down, a slight edge to her voice.
"That seat is taken," he replied, not sparing her a glance.
The doppelganger looked around seeing no one approaching the chair. "But there's no one here."
"Well, I'm just going to pretend like there's someone there, because the alternative is just too damn depressing," the vampire admitted.
Elena paused for a second knowing who that someone he mentioned was before moving to the seat on his left. "Did you set off the explosion that killed the town council?"
Damon gave an eye roll. "Am I wearing my 'I Blew Up The Council' shirt'. Why does everyone keep asking me that?"
"Did you?" she pressed.
"No," he answered with a sigh, giving her a bored look. "Anything else?"
Elena opened her mouth to speak but the words got catch. She cleared her throat, hesitating before speaking. "Have you-, I mean, Bonnie-," she stuttered out.
Damon's face displayed an amused smirk. "What, Elena?"
She shot him a withering look. "Have you talked to Bonnie? I mean, is she okay?"
"Yeah, I talked to her." Damon's phone begins to vibrate. "She's dealing."
The doppelganger edged forward, eager to hear about her best friend. "Dealing? What do you mean dealing?"
Damon's brows furrowed as he read the text his brother sent him. "Dealing. As in she was a witch and now she's dealing with becoming a vampire."
Elena glanced around making sure no one heard the words that left his mouth. She turned back to see him standing up.
"Where are you going?" she questioned following behind him.
"Something happened. Stefan needs me to stay with Bonnie for a while; Caroline and Tyler need his help."
"What? What happened?" asked a worried Elena.
Damon couldn't stop the eye roll. "I don't know Elena. Why don't you go find my brother and ask him? I have a new best vampire friend to take care of," he announced with a cheeky smile, walking off before she could say anything.
:::::
She pulled back from the deer with a heavy breath, blood dripping down her chin. Her eyes seeing nothing as the realization finally started to set in.
Bonnie jerked back from the deer, backing into a tree, tears cascading down her cheeks. "Oh, god," she whispered, her breathing picking up.
"Bonnie?" she heard someone say. She blinked rapidly as Stefan's form came into view. "Bonnie?" he said more firmly as he kneeled before her. "I need you to look at me, okay?"
Her eyes found Stefan's, seeing him nod in approval.
"Take a deep breath," the older vampire instructed. "Follow me."
Bonnie matched her breathing to Stefan's as the panic faded.
Once Stefan noticed the new vampire was calm he spoke. "Are you okay?"
Bonnie wiped the blood from her chin. "Yeah. I just-,"
"You panicked," Stefan answered, gently pulling her to her feet. "You realized what you were doing and you panicked."
Tears begin to flow again. "I'm sorry," Bonnie said in a small voice. "I thought I would be able to do this."
Stefan shook his head. "You're doing fine, Bonnie. This is your first feeding and to be honest I was expecting you to react this way, only way earlier."
Bonnie said nothing but instead forced herself to once again realize that this is her life now and there was no way out of it. She never wanted to be a witch but she dealt with the best she could and now she's has to do the same thing.
"We can go again, if you'd like," Stefan encouraged.
Bonnie swallowed loudly, pushing herself to respond. "Yeah, yeah. I'll try again."
Stefan smiled wiping the wetness from her cheeks, before he scanned his surroundings for another animal. "There's another deer," he pointed out. "Do you want me to get it?"
"Please," she said sheepishly.
The older vampire let out a chuckle and moved to capture the deer. Just as his foot made contact with the earth his cell phone sounded, startling the deer. Stefan cursed as he fished out his phone, giving Bonnie an apologetic smile.
Stefan's face pinched as he read the message on his phone.
"Stefan?" Bonnie questioned seeing the expression on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Tyler," he stated, typing on his phone. "Caroline said Tyler needs help," he added, sending his message to Damon.
Bonnie was already moving. "Alright, let's go," she said, her mind flipping through the possible situations that could be occurring.
Stefan shook his head, gently grabbing her arm to stop her. "No. You still need to feed more. I just text Damon and he's on his way."
Bonnie gave him a look of disbelief. "What? No," she exclaimed. "Something is wrong with one of my friends and you want me to stay and feed with Damon?"
Stefan could tell from the tone of her voice that her anger was spiking.
"Bonnie, I don't know what the situation is. There may be humans there with Tyler and I can't help him if I have to help you. I don't think you have enough control to be around humans now if we run into any."
Bonnie's chin inclined as she swallowed the lump in her throat, her eyes shifting from Stefan. She heard his words loud and clear.
I can't help him if I have to help you.
She was a burden.
She blinked back the tears that were threatened to fall, pushing down the anger that was threatening to topple over.
Making sure that the tears were secure Bonnie looked back to Stefan. "Okay."
The simple word was said soft but Stefan saw the cold mask itched on her face.
"Bonnie-," Stefan started.
"No. It's okay. You go help. I'll stay here," Bonnie said, wanting to say so much more but forced herself to remain quiet.
A sigh escaped the older vampire before he spoke. "Alright. Damon should be here any minute. Just stay with him until I come back."
Bonnie nodded and watched as Stefan sped from the woods.
:::::
It was like the worry and guilt were poking at him in every direction.
Bonnie's face flashed in Stefan's head as he ran to help Tyler. He hoped Damon made to her before she decided to do something to get rid of that anger and grief that he could feel radiating from her.
Stefan's head shook as he silently prayed that Damon and Bonnie were able to control themselves and not have the same result as the last time they were alone.
:::::
The new vampire's head was spinning. Her urge to run to Caroline and Tyler was growing stronger by the second. She bit her lip to hold back a scream.
She wanted it to stop. All of it. She wanted to run and not stop until she was far away from this place that caused her so much heartache and pain.
Her hand washed her face as if to get rid of the conflicting emotions.
Distraction. She needed a distraction.
She felt a shift in the air. "So, my brother says you're pretty fast for a newbie." Bonnie turned in the direction of the voice.
"Is everything okay with Tyler?" she questioned.
Damon rolled his eyes at the worry in her voice. "I'm sure the hybrid dog is fine."
"Do you know what happened?" Bonnie asked with a glare.
"Bonnie would you just worry about yourself for once. I'm sure that my brother will let us know," he said. "Now that we have that out the way, how about you show me your new vamp speed," he finished cheekily.
Bonnie said nothing wondering why the blue eyed vampire wasn't mentioning their violent encounter. She thought for sure a threat would've been thrown at her but she received nothing.
"Could you please just—, what are you doing?" Bonnie's eyes widen as Damon begin taking off his leather jacket, hanging it on a tree branch.
"Seeing as I believe little to nothing that my brother tells me, I want to see you in action myself."
Bonnie's head tilted in confusion. "Action?"
Damon produced a wicked smile. "We're going to play a little game of tag."
Before Bonnie could conjure up a word, Damon softly tapped her nose, his smile still in place. "Tag you're it."
She blinked and he was gone. "Damon? Are you serious?" she yelled, looking for the vampire in question.
He appeared before her. "Of course I am. Just think of it as training. As a vampire you need to know how to move fast weather you're catching your prey or running from someone. So…" he trailed off with a challenging look aimed at Bonnie.
Her eyes narrowed, realizing that Damon was being completely serious. She saw his hand rising to touch her nose again.
Her hand hit his. "Tag you're it," Bonnie exclaimed before using her new speed to hide from the older vampire. Her breath becoming labor from the excitement that was bubbling in her as she stopped running, pressing her back into a tree.
"Oh Bonnie," Damon said. "Let the games begin."
She heard the air shift alerting her Damon had moved, but she didn't know in which direction. Bonnie remained still, un-breathing, as a small smile shimmied on her face. She was feeling something, something other than pain and grief and it was because of Damon.
Before she could allow her thoughts to precede forward she felt a hand touch her arm.
"You're it," she heard Damon say, a smile shining through his words.
She turned to return the favor, but he was gone before the turn was complete. She tried to listen for his movement but the sound of the woods and its creatures was making it impossible.
"Use all your senses, Bonnie," Damon advised from somewhere. "Sight. Look for my footprints, anything that out of place, anything that's sticks out to you."
Bonnie immediately looked for footprints on the ground but came up short.
"Don't forget that cute nose of yours," his voice said coming from her left. "Find my scent and track me. If you can," he added, singing his last three words.
Bonnie took a deep breath allowing the woods earthy and musty smell filled her nose but she was able to detect a slight citric smell, like lemons.
A surprising laugh escaped the new vampire lips. "You smell like lemons."
His voice came from her left, again. "It's the soap I use," he defended making Bonnie laugh once more.
She locked on his lemony scent, moving fast as the smell became more potent. Turning to make a right she saw a blur come from behind a tree. She pushed herself to run a speed she never ran before. Her hand reached and tagged his arm.
Unsuspected, Damon caught her arm and swung her around in front of him. Somehow their feet catch between one another and they fell to the ground, a grunt leaving both of them.
Damon gazed Bonnie as he laid on top of her. Her green eyes held a happiness that brightened them. It made her appear even more beautiful than before. For some reason he wanted that look to stay on her face.
Neither moved as their panting filled the air. Seconds passed and Bonnie began to get uncomfortable, but not from the weight of Damon or the intense stare he was giving her. Her stomach started to churn, pressure building up. Her hands grasped Damon's shoulders, pushing him off her.
"Bonnie?" Damon questioned.
Bonnie ignored him, sped to a nearby tree and fell to her knees, feeling liquid force itself up her throat, exiting her mouth.
Blood. She was throwing up the deer blood.
Shocked, Bonnie said nothing as she felt Damon kneel besides her, placing his hand on her back.
"See. I told you, you were going to be miserable," Damon said softly, lamely trying to make light of the situation.
Bonnie pulled herself together, wiping the blood from her lip as she stood up, trying to process what just happened.
"Why? Why did that happen?" she asked no one, spitting out the deer blood that lingered in her mouth.
Damon let out a sigh and straightened up from his crouch. "Because you need warm blood from the vein, Bonnie. We're a few feet from the road. We can find some lonely human, you'll get the blood you need and everything will be okay."
Bonnie shook her head, meeting Damon gaze. "No. No, humans. I can't. I won't."
Neither said nothing for a moment before Damon spoke. "Alright." He bit into the flesh of his palm of his hand. "Here," Damon said, holding his hand toward Bonnie.
The sweet but lemon citrus smell from Damon's blood hit Bonnie's nose, her mouth begin to water.
"What?" Bonnie asked, her eyes remaining on the blood.
"Since you don't want human blood and you obviously can't keep down Bambi's blood, maybe this will do the trick."
Her eyes found Damon's as she slowly reached out for his hand.
"Just don't tell Stefan," Damon said.
She inhaled deeply. "Why not?" she asked in a whisper.
"Because blood sharing is kind of personal," Damon answered.
"Personal?" Bonnie asked, her eyes connecting with his.
"Just drink," Damon urged.
The green eyed vampire took another deep breath, brought his hand to her mouth and began to drink his blood.
A twin shudder went through both parties. Damon embraced Bonnie as she leaned toward his body, his breath became labored from the pleasure of Bonnie consuming his blood.
Bonnie's eye closed as she drank his blood. The taste was completely different from the deer and bag blood. She was slightly aware that Damon's free hand moved to her hair but her hunger for his blood was too strong to act on it.
A hiss escaped Damon as Bonnie's fangs embedded themselves in his palm reopening his bite, but he remained in place as Bonnie continued to drink his blood.
Feeling that she was taking too much, Damon used his free hand to move Bonnie's hair behind her ear.
"Time to stop, Bonnie," Damon whispered in her ear.
He felt her tense, slowly pulling herself away from his hand, still leaning against him, head slightly bowed. Damon let his hand cup her cheek moving her to face him.
Bonnie said nothing as she watched Damon eyes roam her face. She noticed a slight tingle on her skin where Damon was touching her.
Her already heavy breath hitched more when Damon's thumb caught his blood on her bottom lip, bringing it to his mouth, sucking the blood off.
Damon watched as Bonnie eyes focused on his thumb and lips.
Her eyes moved from his lips meeting his intense gaze.
"Bonnie?!"
The two vampires snapped out of their blood sharing haze at the sound of Bonnie's name.
Bonnie's eyes widen as she pushed herself away from Damon, realizing her closeness to him.
"Bonnie?! Damon?!"
The voice of her best friend became closer.
"Over here Blondie," Damon replied causally pushing off the tree staring at Bonnie with that same intense look.
Caroline stepped into view but stopped glancing at the vampires, feeling the tension in the air. She watched Bonnie swallow nervously.
"Caroline? Is Tyler okay?" Bonnie asked avoiding Damon's gaze.
"He's fine," Caroline answered slowly, trying to figure out what was going on with the two vampires. "What were you guys doing?"
"Nothing," Bonnie quickly replied, throwing a glare at Damon daring him to say anything.
Damon rolled his eyes before walking to get his jacket.
Caroline said nothing as she watched Bonnie, waiting for an explanation, but received nothing.
Bonnie knew from the look on Caroline's face that she would press for more when they were alone.
"Stefan needs you," Caroline stated to Bonnie.
Bonnie shared a confused looked with Damon. "Okay."
:::::
"What's on it?" Bonnie questioned seeing Stefan stare at wooden bullets with markings on them, happy to focus on something instead of what occurred between her and Damon in the woods.
"I don't know. I pulled them out of Tyler," Stefan said, he glanced at his brother. "Where's Caroline?"
"She went to get me a dress for the memorial," Bonnie answered for Damon absently, sitting in front of the coffee table that held the bullets.
"Don't," Stefan voiced, but it was too late, Bonnie's fingers were already wrapped around one of the bullets.
She hissed as the vervain burned the skin of her fingertips.
"They're steeped in vervain," Stefan said in slight amusement.
"You couldn't have said that at first?" Bonnie asked with a glare.
Damon laughed. "Aw, your first run in with vervain and you didn't cry. I'm so proud."
Both Stefan and Bonnie rolled their eyes at Damon.
"Do you understand the writing?" Stefan asked handing Bonnie the metal tongs.
Bonnie observed the marking but came up short. "No."
"Maybe we should call Lucy," Damon suggested taking the tings form Bonnie.
"Absolutely not. Besides that's not magical writing," Bonnie said.
"And how do you know that?" Damon countered.
"I just know," Bonnie snapped, taking back the tongs, looking back at Stefan.
"I think we have a new vampire hunter in town," Stefan said solemnly.
:::::
"I don't think I should be here," the new vampire confessed.
"You'll be fine, Bonnie," Caroline said as they walk toward the church.
"But what if I lose control," Bonnie feared in a small voice noticing all the humans walking into the church.
"You won't," Caroline assured her. "And if by any chance you do we will be there to stop you before anything happens. Okay?"
Bonnie inhaled deeply. "Okay."
Caroline smiled before bringing Bonnie to a halt, the smile sliding from her face. "What happened in the woods with Damon?"
"Nothing," Bonnie objected.
"Bonnie," the blonde growled.
Avoiding Caroline stare she reluctantly spoke. "I couldn't keep the animal blood down. I threw it up. And Damon-," she stopped.
"Damon what?" Caroline asked thinking of ways to hurt Damon if he did anything to Bonnie.
Bonnie raised her head. "He give me his blood," she admitting in a whisper, as if she was admitting to committing a heinous crime.
"He gave you his blood!" Caroline shrieked.
"Shh," Bonnie hissed with a glare.
"No don't shh me, Bonnie Bennett. Do you know what this means?"
"No I don't know," Bonnie whispered harshly, tears filling her eyes. "I knew that I was craving blood and the animal didn't work and he was the only one there that had a solution."
Caroline watched as the tears escaped her confused, angry and frightened best friend. She pulled the crying vampire into a hug.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm just being my overprotected self." She pulled back. "It's just that blood sharing is personal but I think since you didn't gave him yours nothing will happen."
Bonnie's brows furrowed, wiping her tears away. "And if I did?"
Caroline's eyes widen. "Did you?"
"No, no. I just wanted to know what would happen if I did."
A moment of silence passed before Caroline spoke. "I honestly don't know."
Bonnie gave a small smile grateful to find a little humor in these passing days. Her eyes roamed the grounds of the church and found Jeremy walking with Elena into the church, Stefan at the doppelganger's side.
She wanted to walk to Jeremy let him pull her into his arms and whisper comforting words to her. But another part of her wanted to drain him for the pain he caused her.
What the hell is wrong me, Bonnie questioned herself as she watched him disappear into the church.
"Bonnie?" Caroline questioned, seeing her expression go from happy to longing to anger.
Blinking, Bonnie turned back to Caroline. "I'm fine," Bonnie announced before Caroline could ask. "Why don't you go inside? I just need a minute before going in."
"Bonnie," Caroline begin to protest.
"It's fine. I'm sure Tyler's waiting for you."
"Fine. But if you need me just yell my name and I'll come running, okay?"
Bonnie gave Caroline a grateful smile. "Of course."
Caroline gently squeezed Bonnie's hands before leaving her alone.
The smile fell from Bonnie's lips as that familiar feeling begin to sit in. She moved as quickly as she could to the side of the church, where no one could see her.
She tried to swallow down what was coming up her throat but it was useless.
Damon's blood escaped her mouth in the same matter as the deer blood.
She spat out the last of the Damon's blood as she heard footsteps approaching her.
"Bonnie? Again?"
She turned to see Damon with a concerned look on his face.
Her head shook as tears lined her eyes. "Why? Why can't I keep it down?"
"I don't know," Damon answered with wide eyes wondering what the hell was wrong with Bonnie. He seized her wrist. "Come on, I have blood bags in my trunk."
Damon glanced around, making sure no one was near as he opened his trunk.
"Here," Damon said handing the bag to Bonnie.
Bonnie snatched the bag and begin to drink immediately, but as soon as the blood hit the back of her throat the wave of nausea set in making her spit the blood out.
"I can't," she looked at Damon. "I can't. It's making my feeling sick. Why is this happening? I was able to drink this just fine yesterday."
Damon took the bag from her hand, wiping the blood from her corner of her mouth with his thumb. "I don't know. Maybe the witches are making you reject the blood as a punishment," he said with reluctance knowing she wouldn't take his statement well.
Her eyes closed and her teeth clench, trying to stop the tears from flowing. "I can't do this. I can't live like this."
"Hey," Damon said harshly as he grabbed her shoulder, forcing her to look at him, his hand still on her face. "You just need to drink from the vein and everything will be fine."
Bonnie remained quiet knowing Damon was right. Her lips quivered as she spoke. "Okay. But after the service."
"I think we should do it now, Bonnie."
She shook her head, her hand covering his hand that took residence on the side of her face. "I'm afraid that if I take it now I'll reject it. Can we wait till the service is over?"
"Are you sure you can wait that long?" Damon questioned, searching for any hesitation.
Bonnie was slightly confused at the way his eyes seemed to soften as he spoke to her but kept the thought to herself. "Yes. And the service has already started so it won't be that long."
"Okay. We'll do this your way," Damon noted.
Bonnie cleared her throat, moving away from the blue eyed vampire. "We should go in."
Damon's hand fell to his side as she moved away from him. He covered his disappointment of his skin not touching hers by closing his trunk.
:::::
Bonnie entered the church, Damon on her left, trying to ready herself for what will happen after they left this building. She had told Damon that she would do it, but as she glanced around the humans that sat in the pews, she wasn't quite sure anymore.
"Don't know why that always makes me smile," she heard Damon say before his hand found the small of her back.
Her head snapped to him with a glare which he answered with a small smirk. Before she could move from his touch his hand moved to her waist navigating her to the pew that held Stefan, Matt and Jeremy.
Bonnie paused for a second when her ex and childhood friend locked their gazes on her.
She quickly averted her eyes not wanting to see the pity she knew would be in upon their faces. She took the seat next to Stefan making Damon take the seat next to Matt.
"How are you?" Stefan whispered just as Damon sat down with a huff. "We weren't able to talk about what happened in the woods after I left."
Bonnie licked her lips. "I'm okay."
Stefan shifted his gaze to his brother who gave him a raised eyebrow before returning it to Bonnie.
"And Damon?"
She heard Damon scoff at the question. Bonnie swallowed thickly remembering the occurred in the woods with the vampire in question. She spared Damon a glance before and answering. "Damon was Damon."
"That's for sure," Caroline voiced from her place a few pew behind Bonnie.
Bonnie head snapped to her friend, her eyes widen thinking she was about to reveal to Stefan what happened between her and Damon.
Before anyone could say anything all the vampires stiffen as the smell of blood filled the church.
"Do you smell that?" Caroline asked.
"Blood," Tyler said looking for the red liquid, hoping it wasn't near Bonnie.
Bonnie's fingers dug into black lace fabric of her dress that covered her thighs, forcing herself to remain still.
"Damon," Bonnie whispered through clenched teeth, trying not to breath.
Stefan's hand found Bonnie's just as Damon arm wrapped around her shoulders.
"When I talked to April earlier she was kind of nervous about coming up to speak. And now that I'm up here, I'm kind of nervous too," Elena said standing at the podium.
"Nobody move," Damon whispered, his arm tightened around Bonnie as he felt her begin to shake. "Don't turn around, it's a trap."
Bonnie turned her head slightly to Damon trying to let his lemony scent overpower the smell of the blood that swirled in the air.
Stefan, ignoring his brother's words, rose from the pew, quickly removing Elena from the stage.
The Pastor confused by the Gilbert girl's sudden departure, swiftly addressed the congregation. "Um, please turn to page forty in your hymn book."
Bonnie's hand gripped Damon's thigh as the people stood up. "Damon, the blood, it's too much."
Damon began to rub her shoulder in a soothing manner as his brother returned to his seat, Elena with him.
"You're okay," he stated, his free hand moving her face to look at him. "Just focus on me."
Bonnie's green eyes locked on his blue as he stood up bringing her with him.
Elena noticing Bonnie unusual closeness to Damon whisper, "What's wrong with her?"
Matt echoed Elena question, standing on Damon's left, seeing Bonnie's face begin to transform.
Bonnie's jaw tighten as the smell became stronger. She knew words were being exchanged along her pew but they meant nothing to her, even as she stared into Damon's eyes.
Just as she began to push herself from Damon to search for the source of the smell Damon voice broke through her bloodlust.
"Bonnie, Matt said you can feed from him."
She begin to shake her head, eyes filled with fear and hunger.
"You'll be fine," Damon whispered, soothingly. "Everyone will think he's consoling you and I'll be here to pull you back if necessary," he added knowing her greatest fear was losing control.
Elena heard the soft words that Damon spoke to Bonnie and blinked in surprise at the jealousy that begin to creep on her. Her hand searched for Stefan's reminding herself which brother she chose.
"Okay," Bonnie whispered.
Damon gave her a nod before gently moving the new vampire to his left.
Matt could see the fear on Bonnie's face. He pushed back his emotion that threaten to break through, another one of his childhood friends was a vampire. He was able to keep the tears at bay as he pulled her into his arms.
"Matt-"
"No," he cut her off. "you have saved everyone's life more than once including mine, let me repay you."
Her hands clenched.
"It's okay. You'll be okay," he promised seeing her hesitation.
Bonnie moved the collar of his shirt, embedded her fangs in his flesh and began to drink.
Her body melted into the human as the blood filled her mouth. She pulled back from his throat after three swallows.
"Thank you," Bonnie whispered, moving his collar in its purpose place.
"You're welcome," Matt said as he gave her a slight squeeze before letting her go.
Jeremy, leaning slightly forward, was able to capture Bonnie's attention.
"You okay?" he said soundlessly.
Bonnie nodded with a small smile. She felt Damon move beside her.
"Look at you," he exclaimed slowly. "I didn't even have to pull you back," he added, pride unexpectedly shining in his words.
"We have to help her," she heard Elena whispered.
"Who?" Bonnie asked Damon.
He rolled his eyes. "Some girl named April. But I have a hunter I need to get my hands on."
"Damon, no," Bonnie hissed, placing her hand on his arm.
Damon's eyes slowly traveled to her hand before his gaze found hers. "Is Bonnie Bennett worried about me?"
Bonnie swallowed thickly as his words seem to caress her.
"Excuse me," Tyler cleared his throat. "I just wanted to say a few words about Pastor Young."
Bonnie's let her hand fall as the congregation slowly sat in their pews. She looked back to see Caroline whose wide eyes were trained on her boyfriend.
"Back in first grade I was a brat who couldn't be bothered with team sports. Did care much about anything that didn't affect me." Bonnie watched the hybrid in confusion as he continued. "But he was the one who made me understand how important it is to be part of a team, a community. Of giving up for the sake of-"
Damon was up and out of his seat as soon as the stake hit Tyler's chest while everyone ducked down in fear, Stefan following him.
Bonnie shot up after Caroline, making their way to an injured Tyler, Elena following her best friends.
"Oh my god," Carol yelled, falling beside her son.
"I'm going to kill that bastard," Tyler coughed after Caroline removed the stake.
Bonnie let out a relief seeing the hybrid's wound healing.
"Where's Stefan and Damon?" Elena asked.
Bonnie stood to look for the brothers. "I can't find them," Bonnie answered, slightly surprising Elena.
"We have to find April," Elena announced to Bonnie as Caroling and Carol helped Tyler to his feet.
Bonnie hesitated. "Okay."
:::::
"This way," Bonnie noted, smelling the scent of April's blood, her high heels clicking on the stairs that lead to the church balcony.
Elena followed behind the green eyed vampire, trying to take in her best friend in an element that made her stomach churn with guilt.
The doppelganger ran into the back of Bonnie when the vampire came to a halt.
"April," Bonnie and Elena yelled seeing the human bounded by ropes, bleeding from her stomach.
Bonnie rushed to assist the girl when she was hit with a strong wave of April's blood. She stopped to retract but the scent was too powerful to ignore.
The new vampire flew at the bleeding human, blood being the only thing on her mind. But Caroline intercepted her before she reached April.
"She's not dead, but if you feed on her you will kill her," Caroline shouted at Bonnie who was fighting against her hold.
"Let me go," Bonnie hissed.
Elena moved to April, applying pressure to her wound as Caroline tried to reel Bonnie's control back in.
"Look at her!" the blonde vampire yelled. "Bonnie. It's April Young. You can't feed on her. She's just a girl who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She has her whole life ahead of her and you can't take that away."
Caroline watched as Bonnie face slowly return to normal.
Bonnie blinked rapidly as she realized her actions. Caroline could see the flighty look on Bonnie face and grabbed her wrist.
"Hey, we're going to save her," Caroline stated softly, pulling Bonnie with her to April.
With one hand sill on Bonnie, Caroline bit her wrist and fed April her blood.
"Please don't hurt me. Please," April cried out.
"No one's going to hurt you," Caroline assured her before turning to Bonnie, squeezing her wrist gently. "She needs you. You need to make her forget all of this."
Bonnie's head shook, trying to pull away from Caroline. "No. I can't. I can't."
"Yes you can," Caroline countered with a stern look.
"No. I just tried to feed from her. I can't," Bonnie whispered, eyes filling with tears.
"Why did he do this?" April voiced, tearfully.
"Yes you can. You just need to believe what you're telling her. Okay?"
Bonnie swallowed thickly, following to her knees, capturing April's eyes. She took a deep breath and her compulsion. "April, everything's going to be okay. You're going to be okay."
April, under Bonnie's spell, spoke. "I'm going to be okay."
Bonnie spared a quick glance a Caroline and shared a small smile.
Elena held back tears as she watch that beautifully smile appear on Bonnie's face, a smile that she missed tremendously.
"You watch the funeral from up here so that you could grieve alone. It was a beautiful service. People said really nice things."

"Can you tell Jeremy thanks for getting my things?" Bonnie asked her blonde friend.
"No you can tell him yourself. Now tell me what happened between you and Elena and how this happened," Caroline demanded, putting away Bonnie's last article of clothing in her new closet.
Bonnie sighed heavily and sat on her bed. "When I was at the storage units…" Bonnie began to tell her story as Caroline listened intensely.
"Wow," Caroline exclaimed once Bonnie finished.
"Yeah," Bonnie said tiredly.
"But there's something else you're not telling," Caroline declared, reading the former witch as she always have. "I can tell from the look on your face. What is it?"
"The spell," Bonnie began. "The spell I performed between me and Elena didn't just switch the link, it took the essence of her blood and added it to mine."
"What does that mean?" Caroline questioned, fearful of what Bonnie's answer would be.
"It means that along with my blood I have the blood of the doppelganger in me."
