Jeannie-VS-Samantha

Written by Ra'Ay'Mond

Part three.

(Witch in a magic bubble.)

This fan fiction was inspired by a TV guide write in contest asking who was more powerful: Jeannie from 'I Dream of Jeannie.' Or, Samantha from 'Bewitched.' At the end of this story, I will tell you my 'first' choice, and I will tell you what one of the write-in votes said to change my mind.

Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie are both owned by Sony home entertainment. I am making no profit from this work. However, I, like many of the other viewers of both shows always wondered who would win in a magical battle royal between these two 60's television icons.

Jeannie is standing straight, with both fist clinched, leaving a trail of smoke and crackling magical energy behind her. She has just glided through the large smoking hole in the wall that was created when she was struck by a magical lighting bolt. She has just told this same magic user that, "When I'm through with you, you will wish that you were never born." As she floats through the air toward her newfound enemy she thinks to herself, at first I thought that this woman was just another crazed shopper. However, after receiving those psychic flashes of her life, I now realize that she is a witch who is married to a mortal. Further more, she seems to be a member of a rather large family of witches. Except for an older woman whom I believe is an aunt of hers, none of them seems to treat her mortal husband very nice. That sounds familiar.

Jeannie then suddenly stops all forward movement. She is floating in mid- air, three feet off the ground as a horrible thought comes to her. Maybe this was no chance encounter atall. Perhaps it was all staged. Perhaps this is an attempt by this witch and her dark coven to kidnap me. It would not be the first time evil magic users have attempted to capture and bind a genie to do their bidding.

Jeannie's mood darkens as she thinks about all of the stories that she has heard of stolen genies. She then thinks to her self that she doubts if this one witch has the strength to bind and confine her, or any other genie. She must have come with other members of her dark coven.

At this point, Samantha looks up at Jeannie and says, "I'm sorry about that lighten bolt. But you punched my nose. It was an instinctive defensive reaction. I did not mean to hurt you, or damage the store. Can we stop fighting and just talk this out, please?"

Upon hearing this Jeannie remembers the damage to the store. She looks to her left and right. Once she is sure that none of the frozen mortals were harmed in the lighting attack, she blinks away all the damage. Literally in the blink of an eye, the large hole in the wall is repaired the smoke and smoldering flames from the lightning bolt are gone. Also, the small tables with the hair dye and other products on them are removed. In addition, all of the toys and shelves are repaired, and put back in place.

Jeannie then steels herself as she tries to fell the presence of any other witches. There are none. At the moment. She then gives Samantha a scrutinizing stare, as if she is thinking hard about something. She then seems to have figured out her next move as quietly shakes her head, and silently mouths the word "no" to herself.

She then quickly crosses her arms and blinks twice. Once she is done, she gives the little witch a mischievous smile.

The first time that the angry genie blinks, Samantha feels suddenly… Alone. The second time that she blinks, Samantha feels as if someone has turned off the air conditioning and started boiling water nearby. She is starting to sweat uncontrollable.

Samantha lifts her head toward the genie and asks suspiciously, "What did you just do to me?"

Jeannie looks a little like a cat that has just caught a bird, and is playing with it. She curls the left corner of her mouth with a vicious grin as she answers, "The first blink placed a magical barrier around this entire department store. You cannot call your dark coven for help, summon up any enchanted weapons, or call upon out-side power sources for your spells. It also prevents you from leaving, or anyone else from entering. Mortals will feel an uncontrollable urge to turn away and go home. And magical beings will find all entrances blocked. Unless of course you, or they can manage to batter down the barrier that I have placed there. And that is where my second spell comes into play. I have placed an area of ultra high heat and humidity several inches around your entire body. You are loosing your strength by the second."

"You will have trouble standing up, let alone trying to get through my barrier. Jeannie continues, So much for your plans of capturing me to use as your magical slave girl, to do the evil work of your dark coven."

When Samantha hears this, all she can mange to say is, "Capturing you…magical slave girl…dark coven…WHAT! I was just trying to buy my son a giant bunny rabbit! That is all! Nothing else! You must have gotten a psychic flash of my life, like I did of yours. Now I ask you, did you see any evil dark witches' coven? Did you see us plotting your capture, poisoning water wells or planning for the downfall of all humanity? NO!"

Samantha has forgotten the danger she is in as she once again picks up the banner of anti-witch prejudice. She points a finger accusingly at Jeannie as she takes a steep forward and continues, "Honestly, you're almost as biased against witches as mortals are. What are you going to do, burn me at the stake?"

It takes only a few seconds for Jeannie to recover from the other woman's outburst. But when she does Jeannie thinks for a moment what the other woman has just told her. She is correct, she did not see the other witches planning any evil, against her or anyone else. Of course she could be wrong. And she is married to that mortal, against the whishes of her family. I doubt if an evil witch would do that. But the way she froze those other people earlier in the store. I know for a fact that she was trying to freeze me, and failed. I just whish that I could be sure.

Then Jeannie realizes what has to be done. She tells Samantha, "I know what I must do, I'll take you with me to the genie counsel of elders. They will be able to divine if you and your family are any threat to me, and mine."

Samantha feels perspiration begin to pour down her face as she suspiciously lifts an eyebrow to ask, "Where is this genie counsel of elders?" Jeannie smiles as she replies, "In ancient Baghdad of course. About two thousand years in the past. Don't worry, time travel is no problem for my kind."

Samantha can hardly believe what she has just heard. Without thinking, she wipes her forehead free of sweat as she tells Jeannie, "I can't travel two thousand years back in time. My family is waiting for me back at the motel. We are supposed to go to Disney World. Besides, what will happen to me if I go before this consul of yours?"

Jeannie slowly floats to ground level as she tells Samantha, "I will tell them about how we meet. How you attacked me, and my fears about your family of witches kidnapping me. They will then make a decision and pass judgment on you. If they sense what you say is true, you should be released in no time. If however they believe that you are lying, they will deal with you. It may take awhile to assemble the counsel on such short notice. Maybe a few months."

Samantha is having more and more trouble concentrating. The heat seems to be getting to her. She has thought about casting a spell to cool her self off. However, she is trying to save her strength. From what she is hearing, she may have to fight her way out of here. She has noticed that it takes an effort just to stand still. Her legs muscles are starting to weaken because of the sudden high heat surrounding her. And the emotion that she feels upon hearing that she not only will be taken back in time several thousand years, but she may have to stay there for a minimum of several months is almost enough to make her faint.

Samantha raises her voice as she tells Jeannie, "I can't leave my family! And I won't travel back in time with you! That nasty catfight was just two women who both wanted the same toy for their son. Nothing more! I don't deserve to be put on trail because of it."

Jeannie can't help but feel a little sad at this woman being separated from her family. Then her mood darkens again as she remembers being imprisoned in her bottle. She refuses take a chance on being imprisoned by this witch and her coven.

Jeannie moves menacingly close to Samantha. So close, they nearly touch foreheads. She tells the other woman through clenched teeth, "I was once imprisoned for two thousand years in my bottle before being released by the man that is now my husband. I have a family now. I do not have another two thousand years to waste being imprisoned. I will not risk being taken away by you and your family. You are going to Ancient Baghdad with me to stand before the genie consul of elders. If this seems cruel, I apologize. However, you brought upon on yourself!"

Samantha suddenly feels a sharp, dull ach in her chest. She is not sure if this is because of the intense heat and humidity, or the thought of never seeing her family again. It has just occurred to her that if this consul rules against her, she may be the one spending two thousand years imprisoned in a bottle. Tears start to wail up in her eyes. She thinks glumly to herself, there will be no talking her way out of this. No snazzy sales pitch, likes the ones she comes up with out of the blue her husband Darrin's advertising job. But I can't just give up! The worst part is that because of the heat spell and the pain of being punched in the nose earlier, this is a battle that I probably will not win.

However, that not does not stop her from trying. She takes a steep back form Jeannie. Although the pain is almost unbearable, she twitches her nose and cast another spell.

Between the hot weather surrounding her, and the pain from twitching her still now red and swollen nose, she falls backward. Off of her feet. She is caught by the protective bubble that she has just created and is now surrounding her. She and her bubble roll backward several feet before Jeannie grabs a hold of it and brings it to a halt with her hands. Once Jeannie touches the bubble she fells something…odd. She asks Samantha, "What is this?"

Samantha tells her that it is a null bubble. It prevents magic from penetrating it. It will also prevent her from being taken to ancient Baghdad.

Jeannie ignores the other woman and blinks the time travel spell that should have transported both women back in time. Instead, she feels the part of the spell that was directed at Samantha dispersed away by the null bubble.

The spell was too specific. If both women did not go back in time, neither one of them did.

Sam thinks that if she can stall long enough, Darrin will notice that she is missing, and will contact someone in her family to look for her.

Jeannie has other plans. She takes one-step back and plucks out one strand of her golden hair. She then holds each end of hair between the thumb and index finger of both hands. She then runs her tongue along the length of her golden hair, and blinks twice.

The first blink seems to make the length of hair grow to a length of about five feet. The second blink makes the strand of hair turn 'red-hot'. She then takes that strand of smoldering red-hot hair and places it from top to bottom along the length of Samantha's protective null bubble, and stands back as the sparks begin to fly.

Samantha is terrified as she realizes that this strand of magically super heated hair is going to burn through her magic null bubble. The genie seems to be using brute force to get her way through the bubble. If that wasn't bad enough, the heat and smoke being released from her null bubble spell being burnt away is starting to make her pass out.

Then it hits Samantha all at once. She is going to Ancient Baghdad. She will go on trial. And no matter what the outcome, she will not be seeing her husband and children for a very long time. She will more than likely be punished for attacking this genie. And, there is not a thing that she can do about it.

Sam starts to sob uncontrollable. She thinks that the both of them could have handled themselves better then they did. It is not fair that she is the only one to suffer. And, if she had picked up the giant rabbit toy first, instead of the Puss and boots doll for Tabitha, she would have gotten there first and she would have never even run into this crazy genie.

Sam stops crying as she thinks to her self, wait a minute. Puss and boot, Puss and boot' that's it! That could work. But I'll have to act fast. A few more seconds of this magical blowtorch and I am out for the count.

She twitches her nose once again, this time she cries out in pain as she summons up a white flag. She waves it as she tells Jeannie, "OK. That's enough! I surrender. I've had enough, and I'm coming out.

Part four is next.
