With the dark nightmares gone the silent boy's sleep was extended so while Rose was shooting arrows at dummies, however she kept missing. Before long Whisper woke up the boy and told him that they had to meet the Guildmaster for training. The boy rubbed his eyes then yawned before walking to the melee training ring. He found the Guildmaster with Rose standing next to him looking grumpy.
"Alright young hero its time we start our day with some Strength practice, step into the ring." The farmboy did that and got his stick ready to fight a dummy who was unarmed. Rose observed how the boy attacked first then jumped all around the dummy to either confuse it or practice what it means to fight an actual person.
Finally after some dodging and attacking at openings he jumped back then came charging in with a overhead swing with his stick. The dummy at the last second dodged the attack then tried to counterattack but the boy rolled backwards then scored a headshot knocking the head off the dummy.
"Excellent as always, your melee test will go smoothly if you do what you just did. Now lets go to the archery range." Upon hearing this Rose's face turned beet red in embarrassment at the fact she didn't hit one dummy. When the three arrived, the boy took up a bow and arrow and in no time at all he scored a headshot. Rose's eyes shot up and she noticed that he turned around and gave her a smirk. She almost walked up to him and strangle him but the Guildmaster spoke up.
"Good shot my yound lad but maybe you should try hitting a moving target." Nodding his head the boy notched and arrow then let it fly towards the dummy. Said dummy tried to dodge but the arrow still buried itself in its side. "You've done well, the little girl who you're in charge of, couldn't hit one. Maybe you should give her some lessons, but that's later, now go to the library and study a hero's physique."
The boy nodded then returned his bow and left for the library. Rose looked up at the Guildmaster and saw him gesture in the boy's direction telling her to go with him. She reluctantly followed after him into the library where he took a book then sat down on the floor. Rose sat across from him on a bookshelf and watched him read for what seemed like ages. Finally the girl drifted off to sleep seeing as she had nothing to do.
The boy looked up from his reading and saw her with her head back against the bookshelf. He knew sooner or later she would fall onto the Guild's floor so carefully he sat up and adjusted her so she was on laying on the floor without waking her up. His eyes lingered on her face for a time before settling back into his reading.
When I complete my hero finals, I can then have my revenge against those bandit bastards.
After a few hours the boy knew it was time for lunch, he usually skipped breakfast because of his sleep habits and dinner to study but lunch time he was always there. He deposited his book back then walked over to a sleeping Rose and gently shook her awake. He was met with a set of bright blue eyes, like the ones his sister had just before the bandit raid…
Rose woke up to see the boy looking at her like she was some kind of ghost. "Hey are you ok?" The boy quickly shook off his facial expression and turned his heel then briskly walked away. She got up and followed him to the Great Hall where a massive table that had hooded Guild apprentices eating thier food. She saw him quickly get his food before going to a desolate end of the table. She was about to follow until she felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned her head to see Whisper smiling at her.
"Don't worry about him he always eats alone, come on and eat with me and a few of my friends." Rose nodded her head and followed Whisper to get her lunch. After she got a Turkey leg, a slice of bread and some water she followed Whisper to the middle of the table and sat down next to some hooded apprentices that she could tell were girls. She remained silent and ate her food until one girl mentioned how that silent boy could never be a hero since he was probably too stupid to talk. Rose involuntarily clenched her fist and was about to tell that girl off, if not for Whisper who interjected.
"I wouldn't say that the other night when Rose here told him she'd one day hear his voice, Farmboy flashed her a grin then chuckled like he was accepting a challenge. He might be quiet but he's not stupid he chooses not to talk, and besides I here the Guildmaster says he's already better than some apprentices already. Maybe you're making in fun of him since he's better than you." The girl seemed to get a bit angered at Whisper's accusation when the rest of the apprentices laughed at her.
"Hey silent roach, why are you sitting in my seat!?" Rose turned her head towards the voice and saw a Gulld apprentice towering over a still eating Farmboy. The silent boy didn't seem to care about the fact someone was ranting on about him, he was content with eating his food. She walked up and tried to pull the boy away from the apprentice. However that happened to make the apprentice notice her and started ranting.
"Well well if it isn't the little theif, the Guildmaster may have let you stay here but you will never be part of the Guild. If I was in charge you'd be out of here in no time. We're the next generation of heroes this Guild is our home, is not a orphanage for bandit victims' children!" As soon as he said that a small fist came out of nowhere and smashed into in his face. He dropped the floor and held his face while looking at a furious Farmboy. Without warning the apprentice regained his footing and charged his small oppenent, however due to his size and speed dodged every attack that was sent his way. This gave him multiple chances to counterattack which he did in earnest.
The boy seemed to be more experience in combat and was quickly able to put the apprentice down on the ground. He then proceeded to straddle the boy and kept pounding his face in until a blue force hit the boy. Rose rushed to the boy and knelt next to him and looked up to see a large dark skinned man with a purple overcoat with a blue pants, shirt, boots, and fingerless gloves. "My study, now" The man commanded in a middle aged voice. The boy sat up and began after the man, but before he could go Rose grabbed his arm.
"Thanks for what you did" The boy looked her way then nodded once. He then left to follow the man. Rose looked at the boy's back and smiled once before going back over to Whisper.
