Lunch with the Enemy Chap.3

I'm slowly making progress as I'm replacing each chapter one by one. There are some parts I like and some parts I want to edit completely. FYI the name of any places I put in here are fictional and if they happen to be real places, then that would be kinda cool I think?

FF One Week Later

Riley has been staying at home organizing her things. If anything, that distracted her from the fact that her mother now has to transfer to Aomori, far away from her all because of Seto Kaiba.

'I swear this guy likes to make people miserable. Geez, just because he is miserable doesn't mean he has to make everyone else around him just as miserable. I hate everything about that damn guy.'

Her mother has been working overtime organizing the marketing report that will be presented according to her, in just a few days, so she's been working nonstop just to make that happen.

Riley got up and stretched. Her stomach growled. She got up to go to the kitchen and saw there was nothing but instant food left. With a heavy sigh, she got changed. She changed into a pair of jeans, a blue shirt, and a white cardigan. After grabbing her wallet, keys, phone, and map, she walked down the sunny streets of Domino.

Kari

Kari's exhausted eyes reread the report that she had edited, for Ra knows how long. A cup of warm, black coffee at her desk trying to make sure everything was perfect.

After the incident with her issue of regarding transfer, there hasn't been much interaction between her and Kaiba other than him handing her back documents with a lot of red ink in terms of revising.

Seto walked in unannounced which startled Kari a bit.

"I'm assuming the report is coming along well Ms. Castaneto." Seto disregarded the tired look in Kari's eyes.

"Yes, just a few more corrections and I'll be sure to present this before 3:30 today."

"I have a meeting at 3:30. I need this on my desk no later than 2. If you don't get this done, you won't get a lunch break until you do." Kaiba turned around and left her office.

Kari had at least 10 pages left to go through. All 10 pages were completely marked with red ink. How could she go through this in an hour and a half? With a defeated sigh, she called up Riley.

Riley

As Riley was approaching the store, she got a phone call from her mother.

"What's up mom?" Riley walked over the side of the entrance of the grocery store.

"Honey, I'm sorry to burden you, but I need some help editing the last 10 pages of this report. I'm so tired. Can you please lend me a hand? I have to turn this in by 2 today. I haven't had much sleep in the past 2 days."

Riley knew her mother had been working hard, but she didn't know she was pushing herself that hard. Before she could even think, she ran over to Kaiba Corp.

Kaiba Corp

Riley took a deep breath before entering the glass doors. She didn't feel like returning here after the incident with Kaiba, her, and her mother.

After checking in with Chinatsu, she went up to her mother's office.

When Riley walked in, she saw her mother with her head down fast asleep. Shaking her head, she saw the big stack of documents with red ink marks. The report was quite lengthy and with her coming over here, the time that her mother had went from 90 minutes down to 60.

Again, Riley pushed her mother's chair to the side while she took over and did whatever corrections Kaiba wanted cursing herself for yet again helping her enemy.

One Hour Later

As Riley was finishing the last sentence of the report, the clock struck 2 and of course, Seto Kaiba walked in. Riley quickly set the report to print.

"Report Ms. Castaneto." Seto said looking at contents in a manila folder not even noticing that Kari was asleep.

Riley grabbed the report. "Your report, sir." Riley said in a sarcastic tone.

When Kaiba looked up, his eyes instantly narrowed.

"What part of don't show up around here don't you get?" Kaiba said irritably. "You must really want a job here don't you?" Kaiba smirked.

"Please as if. I only came here on my mother's behalf. Can't you see she's been working hard on this blasted report that she hasn't had any sleep? I think you're working her too hard." Riley crossed her arms, an angry look on her face.

Before Seto could reply, Mokuba came running in.

"Hey let's go eat bro!" Mokuba tugged on Seto's sleeve.

"Since you got the report, I'm leaving." Riley was about to leave when Mokuba called out for her.

"Riley wait. Please eat lunch with us today. Take it as an apology from us regarding what happened last time." Mokuba looked up at Seto with pleading eyes.

"It's a sweet gesture Mokuba, but it's alright. I have food at home." At that time, Riley's stomach chose to let out a growl. 'Curses.'

"Mokuba, just leave her be. She'd just be deadweight."

"Why you freaking asshole umiuma! You're so fucking irritating." Riley was about to storm off when Mokuba grabbed her arm.

This made Riley's eyes go wide. After her moment of surprise, she turned around and knelt down looking Mokuba in the eyes. "Look Mokuba, I'm not going to lunch and I won't go to any kind of lunch event with your brother around." Riley shot glares at Kaiba.

"Fine by me. I don't want you infecting my meal with your heinous attitude." Seto replied back with a glare equal to hers.

"Please Seto, just this once. Is this how you repay someone who helped your brother? I could have died if it wasn't for her." Mokuba knew he was being dramatic but he knew Seto couldn't resist denying him for long.

Seto sighed, he knew his brother would pester him with this to no end. Mine as well just get this one lunch thing over with so he wouldn't have to hear it again.

"You coming or what?" Seto said coldly.

"I beg your pardon." Riley had a look of surprise on her face.

"My brother will continue to pester us about this, so mine as well get this shit over with and we'll never have to do this again." Seto shook his head. Sometimes Mokuba knew how to make him say yes, when he really wants to say no.

"Yeah, it's official. You're coming with us to eat lunch Riley." Mokuba clung on to Riley's arm to make sure she doesn't escape as Seto walked ahead. Riley groaned inwardly.

Kari was still asleep.

Outside KC Headquarters

A limo was outside already waiting.

"Get in." Seto demanded as Roland opened the door.

"Ever think of asking nicely in the presence of a lady." Riley grumbled as she slid in.

"A lady huh? A lady is a woman of class and in that regard you have none so you don't need any special treatment."

"Stupid seahorse." Kaiba cringed.

Mokuba went in the middle, followed by Seto.

"Where are we going anyway?" Riley asked.

Seto ignored her question and Mokuba answered instead.

"It's a restaurant called 'Tony's Italian Restaurant.' We usually switch up our places, but I wanted Italian today, and this place by far is the best, in my opinion."

Riley slowly nodded.

The car ride was quiet. No one said a thing. Mokuba just looked back and forth between the stubborn two individuals next to him. He had a strong feeling that these two would end up close.

Restaurant

The waitress, already familiar with the Kaiba brothers, took them to a private room upstairs.

Riley wanted to be angry so badly, but instead her expression changed to one of awe of the décor of the restaurant. The rustic interior made her feel like she was really transported to Italy.

As they sat down, the boys already knew what they were going to order.

"Order whatever you like." Mokuba said with a smile.

"Anything?" Riley glanced over at Seto, a smirk on her lips.

"Just hurry up and order already. I don't have all day." Seto said annoyed.

"I would like a thin crust margarita pizza, a Cesar salad, a side of cheese sticks, and a slice of lasagna. I think that's it."

Kaiba had a look of shock on his face. 'What the hell, why did she order so much? Can she even finish it or is she doing to torture me?'

"Can you really finish all of it?" Mokuba asked surprised.

"Not all of it, I'm planning to save some for my mom. She hasn't eaten much. I plan to give her some of this once we get back."

"You really love your mom huh Riley?" Mokuba took a sip of water.

"Yes, I do. She's the only thing I have Mokuba." Riley's hardened expression softened a little bit. "We have been through hell and back together. She's an amazing woman. She's done so much for me. I would do anything for her."

Seto knew that sentiment. He wouldn't show her obviously that he empathized with her. Mokuba was the only family he had. He sacrificed so much to make their lives better. The past was something he truly wanted to forget.

Seto got jolted out of his thoughts with his angel hair pasta being presented to him.

"School starts soon Riley. What school you going to?" Mokuba asked curiously.

"Mokuba, eat first, ask questions later." Seto said sternly.

"Domino high school." Seto almost choked on his pasta.

"Hey, that's where Seto goes too."

"Do I honestly have to encounter you wherever the hell I go?" Riley just shook her head as she ate furiously.

"Spare me, I'm just as thrilled as you are." Seto said sarcastically.

Kari

Kari woke up and groggily looked around her office. She rushed to her computer and saw that Riley actually corrected the report. Question was, did she go home?

She picked up her cell phone and called her daughter.

"Riley sweetie, where are you?"

"Hey mom, I got dragged by Mokuba to have lunch with your boss."

"Eh?" Her mother said surprised. "At least leave me a note next time if you're going to leave."

"I had no time. I got dragged out before I could. I'm sorry. Oh, we need some groceries. I'll stop by the store later and get some."

"It's ok, I'll go grab them right now, just enjoy your lunch. I pretty much finished what I needed to do today. Just tell Mr. Kaiba I'll be off."

"Sure thing. Bye mom, love you."

Restaurant

"Hey rich boy, mom left for the day since she finished what you gave her to do today." Riley said after hanging up the phone.

"I have more work for her to do. Just because one thing is done, doesn't mean there isn't anything else that needs to be done."

"Ugh, she's already been worked hard enough. She needs a break. Don't you ever do anything else besides working?"

"I have a company to run. I have no time to take a vacation."

"If you have time to even have an hour of lunch with your brother, I'm pretty damn sure you can make time for a vacation."

Mokuba hadn't had a real vacation with his brother in years. Ever since Seto took over Kaib Corp, Mokuba made it his mission to help his brother out with the company. In doing so, he's learned quite a bit in the programming field.

"Thanks for the meal." Riley said to Mokuba.

"I'm the one who paid for it." Seto put his credit card on the bill.

"Whatever. Anyways, I'll be on my way from here."

"We can give you a lift home." Mokuba offered.

"No, it's fine. I'm quite capable of making it alone thank you."

"You're just as stubborn as Seto." Mokuba laughed. "Come on, it's not every day you ride in a limo right?"

"One ride is all I need Mokuba. Besides I really should stop by the store. I want to cook at home."

"Is your cooking even edible?" Seto scoffed.

"Watch it pal. I so can cook."

"I'd love to see you try. As if you can make anything that would agree with my palette."

"Whatever food is food."

"Hey Riley, you should come over one time and let us try a homemade meal." Mokuba exclaimed.

"There's no way you're stepping into our house."

"I wouldn't wanna go over either. Well, I'll be off. Thanks for the meal and see you around Mokuba." Riley smiled and walked down the stairs.

"Honestly Seto, can't you even be nice to her. You're always giving her a hard time." Mokuba shook his head.

"She gets on my nerves. Mokuba, stop trying to make invitations to a person you barely know. I only said yes this one time and this is the only time you'll ever have eating lunch with her."

'I won't give up. I know these two are made for each other. I can feel it.'

Mokuba paid his brother no mind as they left the restaurant.

Riley

When Riley arrived, she saw the groceries on the counter and her mother asleep on the couch. Riley smiled at the sight of her mother looking peaceful and put the food in the fridge she got from the restaurant that day.

'I just don't get him. Well at least I found out one thing today, Kaiba's weakness is his brother and it's quite interesting. He can actually be human, even just slightly.'

Riley returned to her room and took care of a few more boxes before falling asleep.
