I don't usually make friends when we move somewhere new, but in my fifth elementary school one of my classmates was particularly fond of me. I had helped her with her multiplication homework. Soon after, she, literally, forced me to invite her to my house for a sleepover. I was confused when she wouldn't stop talking about the sparseness of my possessions. I had never thought about it before and was immediately jealous of her collection of toys when I visited her house the next weekend. Now of course, I get it completely.

Still, I absolutely dread shopping day. They never let me take my laptop.
I stood near our nearly overflowing cart waiting for my parents to return. Briefly I wondered if shopping day was half the reason they love to move around so much. Shaking my head I went to pull out my phone before I remembered the service still wasn't set up. Ugh. This is so bor— halfway through the thought something caught my eye. Okay not something, a lot of somethings, namely, eyes. More specifically, the eyes of everyone walking by would briefly linger on me before they would turn away giggling. Sure, laugh at the sleep deprived gaijin.

I could feel my cheeks reddening and my eyes starting to smart. God, other people are the worst. Who needs them? Why were they even laughing at me anyway?
I stalked off deciding I didn't need to watch the cart anyway. This is Japan. No one steals anything with the exception of umbrellas and bikes. /*And people's self-esteem*/
After spending nearly ten minutes in the bathroom I was able to calm down. /*I have to face the world sometime*/ Upon exiting the bathroom, I almost ran into a group of ten or so of the most dolled-up high school girls I've ever seen.
"Kawaii!" they shouted in unison. /*Well I guess anytime is a good time to practice your language skills, right?*/
"Good evening?" I said quietly. Shit, was it evening here? Time zone changes are the worst. We should all be like China. Combining five time zones definitely worked out great. /*I really gotta cool it on the sarcasm. Totally not a thing here… Fuck, they were saying words to me*/
They were giggling at me. Either it wasn't evening or I looked like an idiot staring into space worrying about timezones. Probably the latter.
"Sumimasen. Do you not speak Japanese?" the girl nearest to me said in a sickly-sweet voice. She even pronounced the whole 'su' in 'desu'.
"I know a little. My name is Louise Duende. Er… Duende Louise. It is nice to meet you. Please take care of me." /*Mental note: work on your introduction*/
"Ruisu-chin, your Japanese is so good!" she said brightly. "Will you come shop with us?" /*You just met me; why are you acting so familiar? Also, are you not going to introduce yourself?*/
"Sure," I squeaked out instead. 'Mom, Pop, please come save me,' I prayed silently as the gaggle of giggling girls dragged me into the nearest clothing shop.
