SCP-455: The Death Note
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-455 is to be secured in a remote-opening airtight safe, with the dimensions of 10x10x8 inches. All personnel are not to attempt to come into contact with SCP-455, no matter their security clearance. Any personnel who come into contact with SCP-455 are to be immediately terminated by any means necessary. In the event of a containment breach, the chamber that SCP-455's safe is located in is to immediately be sealed off to prevent any SCPs or D-Class Personnel from accessing SCP-455. Also, a one-pound crate of Red Delicious apples shall be left in SCP-455's holding cell for SCP-455-B.
Description: SCP-455 is an average-sized, unassuming black notebook with the words "DEATH NOTE" printed across the front in messy English. When humans come into contact with SCP-455, a tall humanoid entity dressed in leather appears, which has been designated SCP-455-B. Any human who touches SCP-455 will see SCP-455-B, and may use SCP-455. SCP-455 was used in the Kira Crisis as the very notebook used by Kira, aka Light Yagami, and was taken into the SCP Foundation's custody after the so-called Lord of Light died.
When a name is written into SCP-455, the owner of the name will die of cardiac arrest about one minute after his/her name is written, unless a cause of death, such as being hit by a car or stabbed to death, is specified. However, the one who writes the name must also know the face; without that, SCP-455 is ineffectual. Results are similar if one knows the face but not the name for obvious reasons. There are approx. 100 other rules regarding SCP-455, but the most important is that "Any human whose name is written in this book shall die." SCP-455-B, who refers to itself as Ryuk, has stated that at any time it could reclaim SCP-455, but that it allows the SCP Foundation to keep it "for entertainment."
Interview with SCP-455-B
Note: Due to the fact that SCP-455-B cannot be recorded via conventional means, any form of communication between researchers and SCP-455-B must be written down.
Dr. (Classified): I'm in the containment area. Unlock the safe.
(Security accesses locks and opens the safe. Dr. (Classified) walks over to SCP-455, then touches it and looks around.)
Dr. (Classified) I don't see-
(Suddenly, he shrieks and leaps back, obviously startled by something. He takes a deep breath.)
Dr. (Classified) Sorry, I'm fine. SCP-455-B just startled me. Anyway, let's get started. (Removes paper and pencil from coat pocket and seats himself at the table provided.) Are you SCP-455-B?
SCP-455-B: Call me Ryuk. And I'm fine. You?
Dr. (Classified): Well enough. Can I ask you some questions?
SCP-455-B: Don't see why not.
Dr. (Classified): What are you, exactly?
SCP-455-B: I'm what's known as a Shinigami, a God of Death.
Dr. (Classified): Are there more of your kind, or are you an individual?
SCP-455-B: Yeah, there's more of us. Most other Shinigami are feckless layabouts these days, though, just gambling and lazing about in our world. Been hundreds of years since anybody's really gone soul-hunting. By the way, you got that apple that you guys promised me? What was it, the one I haven't had yet… Granny Smith, wasn't it called?
Dr. (Classified): Oh. Right, sorry. (He gives SCP-455-B one (1) Granny Smith apple; the apple is seen to vanish as SCP-455-B eats it.)
SCP-455-B: Mmmmm-mmmmm… tangy, but sweet at the same time… I like it!
Dr. (Classified): Anyway, back to the questions… can you explain what happens to a human soul when you kill a human?
SCP-455-B: Nothing.
Dr. (Classified): Erm, can you elaborate?
SCP-455-B: As far as we Shinigami know, nothing whatsoever happens when a human dies. Their soul just… vanishes. We just assume that there's nothing after life for humans.
Dr. (Classified): Ah. Can you explain the usage of SCP-455?
SCP-455-B: Better, I'll show you.
(A pen is seen to write in SCP-455 as SCP-455-B writes a name in the book. Dr. (Classified) cries out in agony and slumps over onto the table, dead; a later autopsy reveals that he died of massive cardiac arrest.)
