Sorry to keep you waiting. Here's the next chapter!
Climbing onto the back of the truck was a nightmare.
I had to climb out the window, then inch my way towards the back with a foothold a hamster would have trouble crossing while gryphons dove at me from every direction. Oh yeah, and we were moving at about sixty miles per hour. Yay.
I managed to get all the way to the back. I almost fell off once, but I was able to regain my footing just as a gryphon dove at me. I slashed it to dust with my dagger.
I rolled onto the back of the truck, gasping for breath. Suddenly, slippery talons grabbed me and pulled me into the air. I impaled it and it exploded into powder, dropping me from fifteen feet in the air. I landed hard on my back and another gryphon attacked me, leaving me just enough time to dodge.
Fighting gryphons is exhausting work.
I fought on as Clavin drove like a madman. I dodged and kicked and slashed. No matter how many gryphons I killed, more kept coming. Eventually, I would wear out and be picked up by one of them.
I wasn't sure how long it had been. It was probably only around twenty minutes, but it felt like forever. We drove through a forest, and I began to see a hill up ahead. Somehow, I knew that this was where we were heading. Just a little bit longer…
Suddenly, a gryphon's talons cut hard into my chest. I howled in pain. I managed to cut down the gryphon, but then another was upon me, and this time, I didn't dodge in time. It took me up, away from the truck. My dagger left my hand and clattered against the back of the truck. Soon I would be food for this monster. The thought made me sick.
I caught a glimpse of Play Dough diving through the sunroof and leaping higher than a dog should ever be able to jump. She slashed through the gryphon as if it were butter. Her claws glinted in the sun, and I realized they were made of the same metal as my dagger. Play Dough gently lifted me down on golden wings. Play Dough didn't have golden wings. What was going on?
I began to lose consciousness. I was dimly aware of Play Dough by my side, killing gryphons fiercely. As we got closer to the hill, I noticed two girls standing on top of it. One had short brown hair and swampy green eyes. She had a thick build and was wearing work clothes. The other girl was smaller, with long, sunny blonde hair in curls and bright blue eyes. She called for help while the other girl ran to the battle. In one swift leap she was on the back of the truck. She drew a short sword and charged, killing gryphons left and right.
We had almost reached the top of the hill. I noticed the car slowing down. The car must have been running out of fuel. We weren't going to make it.
Calvin gave the truck a burst of speed, and we managed to slip over the hill. The gryphons didn't follow us. The car rumbled down the hill and finally came to a stop near a large house.
I felt myself being lifted off the truck and onto the ground. A crowd of people crowded around me. One pushed through them stood over me. He looked like a normal old man from the waist up, but from the waist down he was a white stallion. A centaur. None of this made any sense. I had to be dreaming. But I knew, somehow, that I wasn't.
"Get her to the Sick Room." The centaur said. That was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.
Hope you enjoyed that! And yes, I know, Play Dough isn't an actual mythological character. Work with me, okay? I apologize for this being so short, but you got to do what you got to do, right? Stay tuned for the next chapter! :)
