- Alex

Alexandra was annoyed.

She knew that Isabella Swan would walk into the classroom at any moment, she knew that Edward would probably flip at some point and by intrigued by the girl. She had tried to get Edward to feed the night before to no avail. So she did what the had to do in order to distract Edward from Isabella's scent.

"Fuck," she swore under her breath as she cut herself a little bit, Edward tensed immediately and looked at her, wide eyes, in that same moment Bella walked in, but Edward was looking at Alexandra worried. Mr. Banner was quick to tell Bella to find herself a seat in the back of the classroom. Alexandra busied herself finding a bandaid in her bag.

"Alexandra?" Asked Edward his face hard, she looked at him confused.

"The desk cut me, sorry," she hissed, he nodded and looked out of the window. His eyes were pitch black, she had noticed.

She stood quickly and went to talk with the teacher, she showed him the injury and he let her go to the bathroom. Once she returned Edward looked marginally better and she made sure to spray herself with perfume to diffuse the tension.

"Better?" She asked quietly, Edward nodded and she grinned.

"You're usually much more careful," he said, she shrugged.

"I was distracted," she said with a smirk, Edward's eyes widened slightly.

"Alex no," her grin grew.

"Oh yes, I was distracted thinking about all the things I will do with Jasper once we're back home, mmmm," she whispered, eyes alight with mirth, Edward looked uncomfortable and she laughed quietly.

It was snowing, Alexandra realized that Isabella Swan yet again would be in mortal danger and sighed before moving to talk to the girl.

"Hey Bella," she said as she reached the teen, Bella glanced at her and managed a smile.

"Hey Alex,"

"Angela said that we're due a movie night one of these days," she said, Bella smiled at her and nodded.

"We should I was-" a screech was heard and Alexandra cursed under her breath before shoving Isabella Swan aside with all her strength.

She looked at the van that was going to crush her to death and she swore, she had lived this long and she was not going to go without a fight, she dropped to the floor and got under Isabella's truck crawling as best as she could, that thing could handle a direct hit, so potentially she could be safe.

She opened her eyes and a white ceiling greeted her, she cursed under her breath and felt something cold on her hand, she looked to the side to come to face with a very concerned looking Jasper.

"Hello sweetheart," she said softly, Jasper was not amused.

"That was reckless and stupid of you," he admonished her but pressed a kiss to her forehead altogether.

"I was a motherfucking hero," she said smugly, then frowned, "That if Bella survived."

"The Swan girl? She did, without a damn scratch while I swore you had been flattened by that hellish van," he said, voice hard, Alexandra pushed herself to a sitting position it hurt a little.

"I'm sorry baby," she said softly snaking her arms around his middle. He hugged her back and pressed a kiss to her head. "I'm at the hospital, right?"

"Yeah, you've been out for nine hours, Carlisle checked you and had you moved to a room, you bled a lot," he said, I let go of him and looked up at him confused.

"How?" She asked and looked down, her legs were fine, she could move them.

"A loose shaft, you were impaled on the stomach, Carlisle performed surgery to correct the damage," he explained, she placed her hand gingerly over her stomach and felt a gauze and a drain tube.

"Oh," she said softly, Jasper looked at her his golden eyes almost shining, Alexandra noticed that he had fed before visiting, "I'm okay, you know."

"I know, you're my tough cookie," he said with a smile, "But don't pull shit like that again."

"I promise I'll try," she said with a smirk, Jasper pressed his mouth to hers in a chaste kiss.

"I can't loose you darling."

"You won't, now go get Carlisle, I bet he's behind the door being too polite to enter," she said, in cue the door opened and Carlisle was smiling sheepishly at them.

"You gave us quite a scare Alexandra, chief Swan and Isabella are outside, are you up for a visit?" He asked, she looked at Jasper and then at Carlisle and nodded.

"I'll be outside," said Jasper leaving in haste.

"He hates the human girl?" Alexandra asked, Carlisle sighed.

"They all do, we were all scared for you Alexandra," he said checking her IV, "It was a noble thing you did saving that girl, but it would have been at a too high cost for us to bear," he said softly, she nodded.

"I'm sorry, I just acted, I had a better chance at survival and my blood wouldn't expose us," she murmured quietly, Carlisle nodded and fixed his eyes on her.

"Never at the cost of your own life Alexandra," she could hear the admonishment in his tone, she nodded, tears threatening to fall from her eyes, Carlisle pulled her into a hug, "It's okay, it already happened," he said rubbing circles on her back, "You sure you want to see the Swans today?"

"Yeah, lets get this over with," she said brushing her tears away.

Isabella and her dad, Charlie, walked into Alexandra's room in silence looking solemn. The Cullen girl looked smaller in the bed covered by blankets and dressed in the white hospital gown, she looked vulnerable. Bella noticed that Dr. Cullen looked tired too, she felt bad for that. At first she had thought that the Cullens were so different from her and the others, but having seen them all when the paramedics arrived and removed the van and all that blood.

Isabella had almost fainted herself, but she couldn't tear her eyes away from the Cullens, how Rosalie had screamed, how Emmett had to hold Jasper back. Bella had understood that the Cullens were like any other family.

"Hi Alex," Bella said softly, Alexandra despite her tearstained cheeks grinned at her.

"Sup Bella," she said as Dr. Cullen moved to the other side of the bed to give them space.

"I'm sorry," Bella said quickly, Alexandra kept on smiling.

"It was not your fault, we were talking, none of us could have known that a vehicle would go out of control," she said, Bella nodded and felt her father's hand on her shoulder.

"You pushed my daughter away and you saved her Miss Cullen, I can't ever repay you," said Charlie, Alexandra looked at him and Bella noticed that her eyes softened.

"It's okay chief, Keep this town safe and consider it paid," she said with a grin, Charlie nodded solemnly, Alexandra then looked at Bella, "Just be careful with the snow."

"I will," said Bella.

She and Charlie left soon after that, they noticed the rest of the Cullens in the waiting room, she noticed that they didn't look as perfect but rather in several degrees of disarray. Charlie led her out of the hospital and they went home, Bella didn't have nightmares that night.

Carlisle checked Alexandra's pressure as soon as the Swans left, he deemed it safe enough and went to call the rest of the family. Jasper perched himself next to Alexandra while Emmett took the end of the bed, Rose close by, while Edward and Alice took the couch, Esme sat on the other side of Alexandra.

"Guys," Alexandra said softly getting their attention, "I love you all, but you are acting as if I died, not cool."

Emmett was the first to laugh, while Jasper and Rosalie glared at her, Alexandra sometimes found it creepy that they took the twin thing so serious, Alice and Edward were looking sympathetically at her, while Esme had a fond yet exasperated look on her face.

"Alex, sweetheart, we were very scared," said Esme patting Alexandra's hair, Alexandra smiled at her.

"Carlisle is the best doctor I know, I have a lot of faith in his abilities," she said, Esme sighed.

"But we were scared that you were not going to make it to the hospital and since your body refuses to be changed," said Rosalie, Alexandra raised an eyebrow at her.

"I'm not sure I could die Rose, I, before I met Jasper, I was in a real dark place for a couple of years and I didn't die, or rather, never stayed dead for long," Alexandra said quietly, Rosalie looked troubled and Jasper pulled Alexandra into a hug pressing a kiss to her hair.

Esme had an understanding look on her face, Emmett was frowning but pulled Rosalie into a one armed hug, while Edward and Alice exchanged worried glances. Carlisle took that moment to walk into the room. He picked up the sad/troubled aura of the room and walked to Esme's side.

"I've gotten Alexandra discharged to go home, I can continue her treatment there," he announced, then he fixed his eyes on Alexandra, "You feel like leaving?"

"I'd love leaving, I don't really like hospitals much," she said, Jasper was quick to move from the bed so Esme could help Alexandra sit.

"Then we'll wait outside for you to get ready," said Carlisle, Alexandra nodded, "Edward, Emmett, Jasper," he said motioning for the males to get out of the room, the four of them walked out of the room, leaving Alexandra with Rosalie, Alice and Esme.

Alice pulled out a small duffle bag from apparently out of nowhere, and between Rosalie and Esme they helped Alexandra into a pair of leggings and a black henley. Alice then helped Alexandra put on a pair of black sneakers.

"I feel like shit," Alexandra said once she was standing, Esme holding most of her weight.

"You look like shit," said Rosalie, Alexandra rolled her eyes.

"Girls, language," chastised Esme while Alice smiled.

Once home Carlisle set her IV in her room and checked her pressure again, he also was sure to give her a dose of pain meds so she could sleep. The Cullen clan was at school the next day, save for Alexandra who had been left under the care of Esme.

"You need to eat sweetheart," said Esme placing a tray next to a sleepy Alexandra.

Alexandra blinked blearily at her, "Five more minutes," she said trying to move her pillows, Esme sighed and wondered if normal mothers went through these moments.

"Carlisle left really explicit orders, you need to eat in order to get better, I made pancakes, chocolate chips," Esme said, Alexandra peaked out from under her pillow.

"And maple syrup?" She asked quietly, Esme smiled.

"Organic, just like you love it," she said, And Alexandra moved to sit.

"I want to brush my teeth first," she said and Esme nodded moving the tray to the nightstand and helping Alexandra up to the bathroom.

Esme had to feed Alexandra, cause the younger woman was still too drowsy thanks to the pain meds and sleeping drugs that Carlisle had her on. Alexandra fell asleep again immediately after breakfast and Esme fixed the pillows and tucked her in before taking the tray back down to the kitchen. She saw the indications that Carlisle had left again and sighed before getting started on lunch. Once she had done the creamy soup she stored it in the microwave and went upstairs to the library and fetched a book before returning to Alexandra's room.

She changed Alexandra's IV bag and noticed that Alexandra was snoring softly, she smiled and sat on the bed next to Alexandra, book in hand. She read halfway through the book when Alexandra began stirring, she placed the page marker inside the book and put the book on the bedside table. Brown eyes were regarding her tiredly, she smiled.

"Are you hungry again?" She asked, Alexandra seemed to be thinking about it before nodding, cuddling herself up in her fluffy blanket, face barely visible. Esme chuckled before standing and going to fetch the soup.

She made sure to warm it and toast some bread while she waited. Alexandra was sitting on the bed when she returned with the tray, eyes lighting up when she saw food. Esme smiled as she placed the trey on Alexandra's lap.

"Thank you Esme," Alexandra said after a few spoonfuls, Esme looked at her softly.

"It's no problem, you are a very good patient," she said with a smile, Alexandra grinned at her.

"You are an excellent mom," she said and Esme couldn't help but to grin.

Carlisle went home about noon to check Alexandra's drain, he found Alexandra curled up to Esme while his wife read the Hobbit to the younger woman.

"He was as noble and as fair in face as an elf lord, as strong as a warrior, as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves and as kind as summer," Esme read, Carlisle cleared his throat from the door, the two woman looking at him.

"I see that you are having fun," he said, Esme and Alexandra smiled, "How are you feeling Alex?"

"Slightly sleepy, but I've been sleeping all day," she said with a yawn, Carlisle nodded and went to check on her, he checked the wound, it was healing nicely if a little faster than an usual human, but then again Alexandra was far from a normal human.

"That's good, it will help you heal faster," he said, she looked at him curiously and he smiled at her, it had been his decision to keep her mostly sedated as he knew that Alexandra was lively and unable to stay in the same place for longs periods of time, it seemed that Esme was enjoying the whole thing too; ten points to Carlisle.

"When can I go to school?" She asked, He raised an eyebrow at her.

"Maybe next week, but just maybe," he warned, she nodded and curled back to Esme, who ran a hand through Alexandra's hair.

When the others returned from school, Jasper replaced Esme on the bed next to Alexandra who had been sleeping again. He observed her as she slept, always amazed of the fact that she was still living, he ran his hand through her hair, a smile on his face as she snuggled closer to him. Perhaps everything was not okay and Alice would have to go the extra mile to ensure that Rosalie was not going to murder Isabella Swan, but Jasper figured that as long as Alexandra remained with them, they were going to be okay.
