A/N: Finally more fun begins! All mistakes are mine and I own nothing. Please review, it would mean a lot to know what people think or to get suggestions or really any kind of feedback :)
"I almost thought you forgot about me. It hurt." Garcia said with her usual charming tone, when Emily put her on the speaker. Her and Scully had been faxed their new ID and had called Garcia to run them through their new identity.
"Oh, trust me Garcia, nobody could forget about you." Prentiss said; her classic side loop smile showing. "Tell me what we've got to deal with."
"Sure thing, Princess. So you will be Miss Lauren Reynolds, a good looking high-school French teacher, searching for a job after her fiancée, Christina 'Chris' McNeil played by one Agent Dana Scully, got transferred as a medical doctor to Salisbury, Maryland. Needless to say that you won't actually start the job until this job is over. Both of you come from Washington, but when Chris saw her opportunity to move here, they both took the chance, wanting to settle down a more quiet place to live their life in peace amongst friendly neighbors. You should have received your driver's license and all the paperwork amongst the key to your new suburban household."
"Yes, we have." Scully answered.
"Great! Then I will wish you two lovebirds good luck with your new house! Garcia over and out." And with that, she was gone again.
"Is she always so energetic?" Scully asked, a tiny bit confused about what had just happened.
"If you only knew…" Emily replied. Scully raised her eyebrows in understanding. "Dana?" Emily asked after a short second, looking at her with a smile.
"Yes?" Scully asked. Was something wrong with her name?
"Nothing, it's a beautiful name. I hadn't heard your first name before." She said, looking down for a second. Scully was almost sure that the blush was there this time.
"Thank you." She replied with honesty.
"I'm Emily. I guess we might as well get introduced right away." She said, extending her hand for Dana to shake.
"Lovely to meet you, Emily." She replied, shaking her hand. This was going to be interesting, she thought to herself.
Morgan and Mulder dressed in civilian clothing, meaning denim pants and band t-shirts, came to help move them in. Along with them came a truck filled with boxes with equipment and the most necessary stuff, meaning that most of the boxes were empty, but it created a nice set up and a good show.
"So are you the new neighbors?" a woman standing on the pavement asked Emily when she saw her step back from the moving van for a second. "My name is Anna, I live just next door." She said, shaking Emily's hand.
"Nice to meet you, Anna. Yes, we're just moving in. I'm Lauren, and this is my fiancée, Chris." She answered, pointing to Scully. "Honey! Come meet the new neighbor!" she called. Scully immediately looked over, having to remind herself for a second that she was now engaged to Emily.
"Hi! It's a pleasure to meet you!" she said shaking the woman's hand. She could feel Emily's hand on her shoulder and when she stepped back, she blushed to feel Emily give her a small peck on her cheek, before Scully put her arm around Emily's waist, making sure to smile friendly at her new supposedly neighbor. "I'm Chris." She said, feeling extremely self-conscious.
"You two make a lovely couple!" Anna smiled friendly. "Listen, we're having some of the others over for dinner tonight, why don't you guys come over? It would be a great way to get you introduced!" she suggested.
"We would love to!" Emily answered.
In the background, Morgan and Mulder had stopped moving and were now looking with great interest at the exchange between their two colleagues.
"Man, I wish we had cameras in those houses!" Morgan said with a smug smile on his face. Mulder laughed shortly.
"Keep dreaming, Morgan." He said clapping Morgan's shoulder, copying Scully's answer from earlier.
"That went well." Emily said once they were inside the house and the guys, along with the moving van, had gone away.
"Yes, and if all goes well tonight, we might get a better clue about what's going on." Scully was still recovering from the feel of the other woman so close to her, her lips burning short and sweetly on her cheek, and it was always easier to go back to the case. After all, they were both professionals on a job. To be honest, these feelings, whatever they may be, were a bit unusual for her and something she would rather chop down to nerves than have a proper look at. She just hoped this case would be over soon.
"I hope you right." Emily agreed. As much as she enjoyed the blush on Dana's face earlier, she could sense her need to be as professional and emotional distant as possible, and she respected that. Even if she was actually starting to get a good eye for the redhead, she would never try to push her boundaries, especially since they were now working together and had to be forced to act as a couple to the public. Imagine how awkward it could get if something went wrong, still forced to stand close, touching and calling each other 'honey' and 'babe'. Anyway, she wasn't exactly sure if something was going on between Scully and Mulder. "Until then, why don't we get a bit unpacked, honey?" She said sarcastically, putting the matter aside.
"Sure thing, babe." Scully replied, playing along. Some humor would be a good way to lighten the mood and the seriousness of this whole thing.
"So what's your theory on this case? Do you agree with Mulder?" Emily asked, while they were unpacking.
"There is absolutely no science to substantiate his claims." Dana stopped dead in her tracks for a second, after she put one of the boxes down. "Sometimes, well most of the time, I find his theories to be rather absurd. But I would also be lying if I said that I haven't seen my fair share of unexplained phenomenon by now. And whether I agree or not, I must admit that a lot of times Mulder's theories has helped solve cases, even if his methods might be a bit unorthodox."
"So you don't believe in little green men and witches?" Emily teased, making Dana smile.
"That would be a shame to say. I believe that there may be things out there that we can't yet begin to explain, or that the government doesn't want us to know about, but no, I'm not a believer. You?"
"I've seen enough things in my time to believe that man is more than capable of producing enough horror and evil by himself, without the help of supernatural creatures." Scully could sense the slight sadness in Prentiss' serious tone.
"Hmm… I think you're right." She agreed.
They could hear the buzz from the doorbell as Emily rang it later that evening. She had on one of her floral summer dresses while Scully had chosen one of her dress suits to wear, but nothing too formal, more elegant. They were standing side by side, Scully with her hand resting on the small of Emily's back. It was a bit unusual feeling for Scully, to touch another woman in an affectionate matter like that, and would have felt more forced, if it wasn't because it felt so damn natural and comfortable. She could feel the warmth of the skin beneath the dress as a response to her touch.
"Lauren, Chris! So nice of you to come!" Anna exclaimed when she opened the door. "Please, come in, the others are already here." She stepped aside to let Prentiss and Scully inside.
"Thank you!" Emily said, as they stepped into the dining room. There were already four others seated around a large wood table, two men and two women and there were decorated for three more people, Scully, Prentiss and Anna. The house was grand, very old school, classic in its furniture and decorating.
"Everybody I want you meet Lauren," Anna said pointing to Emily, "And Chris. They moved in next door earlier today. I thought this was a good way for them to get to meet some of us." A round of welcome's and hello's came from the table. "This is Tom and his partner Martin," Anna introduced, pointing at the two men. Tom was white, dressed in a button up, with slick black hair and green eyes, while Martin was an African American man, in an orange tank top and black blazer. Together they made a great couple, complimenting each other nicely. "Then we have Gina," Gina was a short, feminine girl sitting alone, probably single. She had long, light brown hair with bangs, dressed in a dark blue, cute summer dress. She was smiling shyly, waving her hand. "And lastly we have my wife, Joan." Joan was sitting at the end of the table, her spot to the left empty. She was masculine with short dark hair, black button up with a vest and no make-up or jewelries.
"Thank you for inviting us." Dana said with a half-forced smile on her lips.
"Oh it's no problem." Joan answered for her wife. "Please, take a seat." She said, pointing at the two empty seats across from Tom and Martin, next to Gina.
Scully pulled out Emily's seat as they were about to sit down. She thought that since she was the one with the dress suit on, it would only be suitable for her to serve Emily, and be the one with the pants on. She wasn't exactly sure how this whole lesbian relationship thing worked.
"Thank you, honey." Emily said, smiling at her. The whole set up was a bit forced and fake, but both of them rather enjoyed the attention from the other, even though it was a bit awkward. They still had to get more comfortable with each other, they didn't really know each other that well, and it was hard to force closeness without having the chance to have a proper feel of the other beforehand.
"Now that everybody is here, let's eat." Anna smiled.
