A/N: More stuff. Oh boy my favorite quote is in this chapter. Hehe, we still don't own them.
The next morning, I was awoken by bright sunlight in my eyes. "Rise and shine sleepyhead!" Kelsey chirped happily, "Today's the big day!"
Not being a morning person I grumbled, "Yeah, but why'd you hafta get me up?"
"Since we need to get dressed silly!" She exclaimed, "Or have you forgotten that Will is going to be here soon?"
I shrieked, "Will!" and bounced eagerly on my bed.
Kelsey rolled her eyes, "Yes, dear William. Now, get up!"
"Wait!" I said slowly, a brilliant plan occurring to me.
"What?"
I grinned, "We still have Will's clothes right? We can sneak out of Norrington's duller-than-dirt ceremony to give them to him! But," I added, "We'll wait until just before Jack shows up. We'll split up and you will be waiting around the docks at that point. Then, you can direct him right to Will, and follow him! And we'll have front row seats to the fight of the century!"
Kelsey erupted in giggles, but she managed to choke out, "Mar, you are a genius!"
Airily I sniffed, "Of course I am hon; it's my job!"
"Then come on!" She declared, "We have to get dressed!"
After about 20 minutes, we had both managed to get ourselves into our corsets (the only reason we wore them was so we could fit into Elizabeth's clothes. Curse her thinness!) I had on a pastel green dress, and Kelsey had a pretty pastel pink (ha!) dress. We had fixed each other's hair up in buns, and we really looked like we belonged there. We decided to see if Elizabeth had woken up yet, and so we crept quietly down the hallway. It's not easy when you have on silk skirts! Peeking in the door, we saw her pulling out Will's pirate medallion. "Hurry!" I hissed, "Let's get downstairs! The Governor will be coming here any second!"
"Right!" Kelsey replied. Picking up our skirts, we hurried out the landing. The Governor came out of his rooms, and smiled at us before knocking at Elizabeth's door. We managed to overhear most of the conversation, which was the same as the movie.
I yawned, and began tapping my foot impatiently. When was Will going to get there? Kelsey sighed and began drumming her fingers on the railing. After several minutes of nothing, I
asked loudly "Where's Will?" As if on cue, I heard the door being knocked on. "Whee!" I squealed happily.
Kelsey hissed, "Quick! Act casual!"
Hurriedly I smoothed my hair back behind my ears and began bouncing up and down with excitement. The elderly butler we had been shown in by opened the door and let Will in. To our ultimate amusement, he broke the chandelier off (even though we knew he would do that it was still funny!) and hurriedly began looking for a place to hide the evidence. Kelsey drawled, "Put it in that umbrella stand."
Will looked up at us in confusion, and a look of recognition passes his face. He grinned at us before stuffing said chandelier piece into the umbrella bucket. I waved and called, "Hi Will!" as I went down the stairs. In my eagerness to glomp him, I tripped most stupidly on the hem of my skirt and bounced on my butt the entire way down. Will held out his hand and pulled me upright, not managing to conceal his amusement.
"Hello Miss Mary. Hello Miss Rose." He said to each of us in turn. Kelsey had made it down the stairs without tripping and I glared at her when she giggled.
"Ah! Mr. Turner! It's good to see you again!" The Governor exclaimed as he came down the stairs, for once alone.
"Good day sir. I have your order." He opened the case he had held at his side, revealing a very pretty rapier.
Governor Swann seemed impressed, saying only, "Well!"
Will went into his explanation of the sword's makeup and I just sort of stared in awe at him. Kelsey was whispering to Elizabeth who arrived just after Will showed off his neat little sword flipping trick. I looked at them both curiously, but glowered when he ogled Elizabeth. Darn her! Apparently it was time to leave, because after the Governor mildly scolded Elizabeth, he was waiting for us to leave. Thankfully, I had already conveniently hid Will's clothes in a small bag under my skirts! Mwahaha, my genius would be paying off soon enough!
Do you realize just how boring a promotion in the Navy is? I thought I did, but I was literally falling asleep on my feet because it was so freaking boring! I honestly didn't understand how people could think this was fun. Kelsey and I weren't standing with the Swanns, we had declined their offer to and stood towards the back. That was to aid in our slipping away! After about half an hour, Kelsey impatiently whispered, "Can I go now?! Jack might be here already!"
I whispered back, "Yeah, do you remember how to get to Will's?"
"No." She admitted frankly, "But I'll manage to get there before him somehow."
I nodded, and then we both silently began inching away. Several steps later, we broke into a speed walk. I looked at my friend, nodded and we both split off in different directions. Kelsey headed towards the dock with the stupid looking British soldiers, and I began retracing the way to the blacksmith.
I tried to look like a confident proper young lady, even though I really didn't know how to act like one. I had made several mental landmarks on my way to the Swanns, and was now searching for them eagerly. As I walked, I soon learned that my slippered feet had no traction whatsoever and I found myself grabbing anything I could to stay upright.
A group of soldiers walking through the streets saw me and began whispering amongst themselves and grinning. I hurried my pace, and to my relief Will's shop was just down the lane. At his door once again I tried to inconspicuously take the bag out from under my skirt, which wasn't easy let me say right now. But I managed and with Will's neatly folded clothes in one hand, the other knocked on the door. I doubted Will's master would answer as he was in a drunken stupor even during a loud and violent fight.
"Coming!" I heard him call and a smile jumped to my lips. As he opened the door, once again Will was surprised to see me. "Mary?" He asked, surprised, "What are you doing here? I thought you were going to Captain Norrington's promotion with the Swanns and Rose this morning."
I blushed. "I was going." I said simply. "Well, I did go. But I was nearly falling asleep on my feet, and I remembered that we still had your clothes." I offered them to him, and he took them, a slightly puzzled look still on his face.
"How exactly did you manage to leave without being noticed?" Will said with a sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair. It had already been mussed from its neat do, probably from working on some sword or another.
I shrugged. "We were in the back, it wasn't hard."
Will replied with a grin, "Well, thank you in any case. Would you like to come in, since you are already here?"
I beamed, "Certainly!" I turned sideways and squished my skirts to pass him and get through the door. "I'm sorry." I apologized as I was squeezed right up against him. After realizing just how close we were I blushed a deep scarlet, as his face was only a few inches from my own.
Will looked at me for a long moment. Then after I was safely through the door, "It's no trouble Mary." He insisted "Would you excuse me? I'd like to put my clothes back."
I nodded, "Take your time, I'll be alright." As soon as he was out of sight, I collapsed into a fit of giggles, which was followed by excruciating pain in my ribs.
Meanwhile, Kelsey was walking the docks looking for her Captain Jack Sparrow. "Where's a pirate captain when you need him?" She asked herself disgustedly. Then, "Ah ha!" She had found the Interceptor! Which meant Jack was there. Which meant the plot was moving along. Which also meant that Jack was there!
And he was, standing on the pier with the two idiotic British soldiers. His kohl-lined eyes were dancing with amusement and she ogled his piratey pirateness with pleasure.
Jack was saying, "It's a fine goal to be sure but it seems to me that a…" He turned and looked towards the other big ship in the horizon. "A ship like that makes this one here a bit superfluous, really."
Stupid soldier number 1 said, "Oh, the Dauntless is the power in these waters, true enough, but there's no ship as can match the Interceptor for speed."
Feeling this was a good time to interrupt, Kelsey sidled up to the three men and said brightly, "I've heard of one, the Black Pearl!"
Jack was startled and turned and eyed her with interest. He grinned at her and winked, "The Pearl is indeed the fastest ship on the oceans." Kelsey blushed furiously and smiled as well.
The two soldiers proceeded to confuse themselves beyond all help, and Jack began sneaking onto the ship. Their banter done, the British men cried, "Hey! You! Get away from there!" They began hurrying over to him. Thinking quickly, Kelsey stepped suddenly in their path. Her skirts were large enough that there wasn't room for the three of them on the dock, and the soldiers proceeded to fall into the water. Not quite expecting that, Kelsey just sort of stood there, a bewildered expression on her face. After a moment, she burst into laughter and yelled, "I LOVE MY POOFY-SKIRT-O-DOOM!"
Jack burst into full hearty gales of laughter, and grabbed onto the wooden beams for support. He roared even harder as the soaking wet soldiers made their way back on the deck, looking even more confused than usual.
"I'm sorry!" Kelsey said to them sweetly, "I didn't mean for that to happen!"
They said quickly that of course it wasn't her fault, they were in a lady's way. Concealing a smirk, she curtsied. Kelsey looked towards the cliffs, and saw a miniature doll like object hurtling towards the water. "Elizabeth!" she cried with a panic. Completely forgetting that Elizabeth would be fine, she hurried to the dockside and grasped it in fear. She and Elizabeth had gotten along better than I had with her, mostly since Kelsey had no jealousy issues. (Well, sorry! I'm possessive!)
"So, are you going to save her then?" Jack asked either of the soldiers still standing there.
"Can't swim." One replied.
Jack rolled his eyes and muttered, "Pride of the King's Navy you are." He handed him his hat, pistol, sword and other 'effects.' "Do not lose these." He warned as he dove in the water. Kelsey watched her friend and her pirate anxiously, nearly screaming in horror and frustration.
After what seemed like hours Elizabeth was shoved onto the dock. Kelsey offered her hand to Jack and helped him onto the dock. Elizabeth lay sprawled like a dead fish on the wood and she wasn't breathing.
"What do we do?" She asked Jack, panic starting to climb into her voice, "She's not breathing!"
Quickly Jack ripped off her corset and Elizabeth took in a big gulp of air.
"Never would've thought of that." One soldier said with wonder.
"Clearly you've never been to Singapore." Jack replied smugly. His gaze swerved to Elizabeth's breasts (how typical) where the medallion hung and he asked quietly, "Where did you get that?"
Then the now Commodore Norrington, his soldiers, and Governor Swann hurried over. Norrington barked, "On your feet!" Kelsey, who had been kneeling with Elizabeth, stood up quickly simply out of habit.
Governor Swann pulled his daughter upright and asked her worriedly, "Are you alright?"
Elizabeth smoothed back her hair and said somewhat calmly, "Yes, I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Kelsey studied her new friend's face worriedly (isn't it bizarre that we consider them our friends?) Nodding, Elizabeth shot her a smile. The Governor looked curiously at the corset in one of the soldier's hands. The soldier then cowardly pointed to Jack. "Shoot him!" Swann cried, turning red in the face.
"Father, Commodore, do you really intend to kill my rescuer?" Elizabeth pleaded. Kelsey was beginning to slip away into town, hoping to give Jack directions to the smithy. Besides, she knew this part by heart anyway.
Back at the blacksmith's shop, Will was sitting with me and holding a sword out on his finger, showing me the perfect balance.
"I wish I could use a sword." I said wistfully, "But girls aren't supposed to." To my surprise, the hilt of the sword was offered to me. Confused I asked, "What is this?"
"If you wish to learn, I would be happy to teach you a trick or two." Will's chocolate eyes danced with amusement as I gingerly took the sword.
"Wow." I breathed as I felt the actual weight of a fine rapier. Standing up from my chair, I began doing several fancy swishy stabs (or attempts at some) as I heard Will chuckling in the background.
I put my hands on my hips, my sword nearly stabbing my skirts. "What, pray tell, is so funny?"
"Nothing, nothing." He replied, not able to stop grinning. "You seem to know a bit about swords for never picking one up before."
Absently I swung the sword around and whispered, "I have seen a few fights…" A smile spread across my lips; most of them were his. But my mind had begun to wander…
'Where are you Kelz?!' my mind screamed, 'You're late!'
As I thought this, Kelsey was at that moment standing by the Indian statue that Jack hid behind. She saw him racing up the streets, and pointed to the statue as a bunch of soldiers followed his trail. Jack dove behind it swiftly and the soldiers went on without a second glance. When he poked his head out, Kelsey whispered to him, "Follow me, if we go to the smithy we can get rid of your chains!"
Surprised, Jack exclaimed, "Brilliant idea! Lead on, fair lady from the docks!" He flashed her a winning grin, and she felt her knees go weak.
"This way!" She whispered as she hiked up her skirts and began to run.
Will had just gone in back, to get, something. I didn't really pay attention as I was too busy staring at him. Then, I heard the door being opened. Kelsey held a finger to her lips and she ushered Jack into the room. He looked from me to the drunkard Mr. Brown and apparently thought me no threat. Hmph. As he was about to scald the poor donkeys butt (the meanie!) I hissed,
"Don't hurt the poor thing!" I took the donkey's bridle in my hands and began leading it around the circle. Jack quickly tossed his chains into the machinery and they snapped like twigs.
"My thanks ladies!" Jack said with a cocky wink.
Will's footsteps were suddenly audible and Jack grabbed one of the thousands of swords hanging from the ceiling and hid in the shadows. Kelsey and I dove to the chairs Will and I had formerly occupied and smoothed our skirts.
The blacksmith's apprentice came in and a surprised look came on his face. He smiled and bowed to Kelsey, then turned to his master. "Right where we left you." Will drawled. Kelsey and I looked at each other, the movie's actual dialogue could shift! A grin spread to my lips, this could be fun! "But not where we left you." Will's gaze had shifted to the donkey that at least had not had its bum burned by an uncaring pirate. Jack's hat sat upon an anvil, and Will curiously
bent over to pick it up. But before he did, Jack appeared, sword pointed towards the young blacksmith.
Will's eyes narrowed angrily, "You're the one they're hunting! The pirate!"
Jack studied him for a second and remarked sarcastically, "You look familiar. Have I threatened you before?"
"I make a point of avoiding familiarity with pirates." Will snapped, a deadly look on his face.
I giggled quietly, and Kelsey elbowed me fiercely to shut me up.
Jack replied amiably, "Ah, well, then it would be a shame to put a black mark on your record. So, if you'll excuse me…" Will grabbed one of the zillions of swords from the ceiling and Jack asked him with narrowed eyed, "Do you think this wise, boy – crossing blades with a pirate?"
Kelsey whispered in my ear, "And a dead sexy pirate at that."
"You threatened Miss Swann!" Will retorted, getting into a fighting stance.
Jack protested, "Only a little." From then, the fight commenced. Kelsey and I cheered whenever either Will or Jack made a particularly brilliant move. I let out a whoop when Will pinned Jack to the ceiling, causing them to look oddly at me before returning to their brawl. Finally, it came to the point where Jack threw sand in Will's eyes. Completely forgetting that that was supposed to happen, I ran over to Will and knelt beside him.
I glared at Jack. "You cheated!" I said, my feminine voice threatening and deadly.
He shrugged. "Pirate." There were footsteps heard outside the door. He looked from me to Will and said pleadingly, "Please move."
Standing up, Will put a protective arm around me and said firmly, "No! I cannot just step aside and let you escape!" I blushed at the feeling of being so close to him, and could barely contain a sigh. His arms were strong and gave me a great feeling of security.
Cocked gun in hand Jack replied with the pleading look still in his eyes, "This shot is not meant for either of you."
Kelsey let out a small yelp as Jack was hit unconscious by Mr. Brown's bottle of alcohol. Commodore Norrington and his men stormed in and congratulated Mr. Brown on doing his civic duty, while Will, Kelsey and I went unnoticed for a moment.
Then "Rose? Mary?" Norrington asked sharply, "What are you doing here?"
I looked at Kelsey frantically, as I had no clue how to get out of this one. She saw me and began shaking. She stammered, "We, we just came down to, to say thank you again to Will. Then that, that pirate came and scared us half to death! Thank goodness you came!"
I nodded fervently. Since Will never got any credit during that scene, I decided to give him some. I added, "Will fended that pirate off to protect us, he distracted him for Mr. Brown to hit him!"
Norrington glanced at Will, and nodded in approval. "Well done Mr. Turner. Now my ladies, if you don't mind I'll see you back to the Governor's."
"Good-bye Will." I whispered as I squeezed his hand.
"Good-bye Mary." He replied, flashing me a small smile. There was no way I would let this be our last meeting.
Meanwhile Kelsey was staring sadly at Jack as he was carted away by the soldiers. She looked like she was about to cry, so I hurried over in my huge skirts and managed to give her a consolation hug.
Norrington dragged us away (not literally but you know) to the Governor's mansion. Jack was dragged to prison. And Will was dragged nowhere. Hehe. After going to the Swann's, we ate a fancy dinner, which actually tasted pretty good considering most of it was fish (I usually hate fish). Then, Kelsey and I slipped off to find a hiding place for when the pirates would ransack the mansion, since we knew it would happen later that night. Hey, there was no way we were going to get killed/kidnapped and miss all that time we could be spending with Will and Jack! We decided on the cellar since it was dark and damp and the pirates would never think to look there. After gathering up a few things (knives for protection in case we were found) we hid in the cellar. We're geniuses! Yeah!
"This is disgusting." Kelsey complained, trying to sit so the damp walls weren't touching her. She then shrugged, "But, look on the bright side."
"What bright side? Other than that we won't get kidnapped." I replied, grimacing as I was pinned against the corner of a box of apples.
"I found an apple!" Kelsey said with a grin holding it up.
I shook my head. "Kelsey, the cellar is full of apples."
"And?"
"Never mind. You just eat your apple." I patted her head and rolled my eyes.
"OK!" Kelsey started to munch on her found apple. Suddenly, we heard screams and assorted loud noises from upstairs.
"The pirates are here." I said conversationally.
"Yup." Kelsey said. I began to munch on an apple, too, out of sheer boredom. After several hours of being cramped down there, we figured the pirates were probably gone by then.
"Can we find Will please?" I said, earnestly, "He's unconscious by now and needs my help!"
"Why? He's unconscious." Kelsey replied with a sigh, "Plus, Jack is in prison. That's worse!" I gave her another poofy-skirt hug. We walked out of the basement, and walked out of the house. The streets were completely chaotic. The soldiers were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and some townspeople were dead. Poor townspeople.
"We've got to go find Will!" I said, starting to get anxious.
"You're obsessed, Mar." Kelsey sighed.
"Well, so are you, so, nyeah!" I said, sticking my tongue out at her. Kelsey stuck out her tongue back at me. After about 2 minutes of acting like juveniles, I began dragging Kelsey through the streets to help me find Will.
Kelsey rolled her eyes through most of this process. Finally, I got fed up. "Why don't you go find Jack, and Will and I will meet you there?" I asked her, annoyed of her un-willingness to help.
She beamed, and yelled, "Yippee!" She began walking quickly (in a corset, you can't run. It's a fact.) towards the prison which by a stroke of bad luck, still held Jack. So now I was alone. I found Will a moment later, lying in the dirty streets. Poor baby. I tried to remember how to wake up an unconscious person. Slapping them never worked, but dousing them with cold water did! So I conveniently found a bucket of cold water, knelt down and threw it on his face.
"Bloody hell!" Will cried as the water splashed him. "That's cold!"
Sarcastically I remarked, "Nice to see you too." I sat back on my heels, extremely amused to see Will all dripping wet.
"Mary?" He asked, sitting up, "What are you doing here?" A nasty bruise was hidden along his hairline and it looked like getting that must have hurt.
I replied amiably. "Waking you up."
"How did you know I was here?"
"It's a long story. Elizabeth is missing!"
He nodded grimly, "I know, I was knocked unconscious when I tried to go after her."
"Do you have any ideas how to save her?" I asked him softly.
"No." Will looked troubled.
I shrugged, and said, "Perhaps that pirate we saw yesterday knows something."
Will's eyes flashed, "That's a brilliant idea! Come on, let's go!" He grabbed my hand and pulled me along towards the prison.
