Chapter 3.

A/N: Hey everyone, I'm so sorry for the really unforgivable delay of the story! It is really terrible of me to abandon this for so long. I've been really caught up with college and dramas, up to the point where I have no mood and motivation to write. My heart got scattered, I find it hard for myself to write a romance story like this. I hope you all will enjoy it nonetheless (:

Peter parker was walking down the road leading to his school, his backpack dangled lazily on his shoulder and his eye bags appeared prominently. His every muscle screaming for rest because of his lack of sleep but he pushed himself forward with every step.

His classmates have always wondered why he is always hunching lethargically, often late for classes and random bruises are often found on his face. They never had the intention to ask him because Peter was always the introvert and they felt like intruders tying to pry open his life. One of them was Lauren, she has been discreetly observing Peter ever since they are partners for English class.

"Morning." Peter mumbled inaudibly under his breath, looking as if he hasn't had forty winks for a week.

"Morning." Lauren chirped. "You're late again."

"Sorry caught in traffic." Peter said lazily, as if he doesn't bother to explain himself.

"Well..." Lauren walks to school and she didn't recall any signs of bad traffic. "...now you're here, lets discuss about the assignment we are suppose to work on."

"But it is due next week."

"We have to write a 2000 words essay." She reminded him, a little irritated.

"Oh okay wow, that is quite a lot."

"Yeah it is, if we don't get started on it now..."

"Hey is it okay if we meet up after school to do it?" Peter interrupted her while he sharply turned his head towards the window. "Sorry, I realized I left something at home and I have to get it." Peter hurried his words and grabbed his backpack.

"Tonight sounds good?" Peter said urgently, going on his feet.

"Uhmm no, I-I'm busy sorry." Lauren mumbled.

"Sorry I really have to go now, will text you." Peter said absent-mindedly and he was out of the door.

Lauren stood on her spot, dumbfounded and wondered what was it so important that he has to go back home and take it, he never had her number too. This Parker guy is weird.

The night was silent. Pedestrians lessening on the streets, streetlights casting a helpless soft glow, everything seemed stationary and calm with the exception of Spiderman shooting through the sky. It was 2am, the time when crimes frequently happen in New York. However that night, everything was static, no signs of struggle or danger, the town looked asleep. Spiderman felt a sudden rush of peacefulness flowing through him, finally an early and safe night he thought to himself.

Just when he was about to swing his way back home, his Spidey senses drumming violently at his temples. After leaping from rooftops to rooftops, he found the cause of it from a dark alley.

A girl was going out from a backdoor of a pub wearing a thick trench coat, she looked around skeptically before fully stepping into the alley. Just when she thought no one was around, she jolted at the sound of footsteps behind her. She walked quickly, taking two steps at a time. When she heard the footsteps increased in speed, she sprinted. However, the stranger was much quicker than her. He grabbed her shoulders with his inhumanly big hands and pinned her against the wall.

"Help! Hel-mphh" A scream escaped from the girl but the guy shoved a cloth into her mouth.

"Shush it, girl. I hate it when women scream." The big guy said maliciously, closing the gap between them both. "You don't want to get on my bad side do you?"

The man smiled evilly, revealing a few missing teeth and bloody gums. He continued talking.

"That's better. Submissive women are the most attractive." He slurred while he reaches the buttons of her trench coat, he gabbed two sides of the flap and pulled violently, sending buttons to shoot in all corners.

"HEY YOU." Spiderman shouted while he landed in the alley. "Submissive women are the most attractive? I foresee that you will be single for a very, very, very long time buddy."

"Spiderman!" The man said with pure fury and threw the girl on the ground.

He ran towards Spiderman with full speed and a fist at ready. Spiderman effortlessly did a backflip and kicking his chin in the process. The big guy was disorientated but he charged at him again. Spiderman dodged all of his punches until his last punch where the man hit him square in the cheek. But it did not stop him, Spiderman started to throw punches at the man, hitting him from the stomach to the face and finally the man passed out with bruises and a bloody nose. Spiderman wrapped the man's body in sliver web-like substance that came out from his wrist, thinking that the police will find him in the morning. Spiderman did not forget the victim.

"Are you okay miss-wait- Lauren?" Spiderman muttered after walking towards the girl who was still on the ground.

"Excuse me?" The girl said in fear.

"You were that girl from the robbery in the grocery store a few nights ago!" Spiderman exclaimed and noticed her wearing a skimpy dress under her trench coat. "And uhmm, can you please, um, cover up?" Spiderman placed his hand at the back of his neck and awkwardly looked away.

"Oh right sorry." The girl said quietly, equally embarrassed.

"Can you stand up?" Spiderman extends an arm towards her.

"I don't think so, I think I twisted my ankle."

Spiderman went closer to her and took a look at her leg, it has a large bloody wound and blood trickled to the ground, her ankle was twisted at a weird angle too.

"Wow, it looks bad" Spiderman said sympathetically. "He threw you hard on the ground didn't he?"

The girl could only manage a small nod, worry written all over her pale face.

Normally, Spiderman would leave right after the bad guy is defeated but he felt a sense of trust and familiarity with this girl. He hesitated for a moment, "Come I'll take you somewhere to help patch it up." He carried her in her arms carefully and instructed her to hold on to him. He then shot webs from his wrist and swung towards the residential area.

They landed on a fire escape; Spiderman opened a window of a room and discreetly went inside. He carefully placed the girl on a bed and scrambled for a first aid kit. He picked out a few of its contents and placed them on the bed, then he went to the bathroom, only to come out with a wet towel. Spiderman started by wiping away the blood and dirt on her leg, he then sanitized the wound with Dettol. A gasp escaped from the girl and her leg twitched as the liquid got in contact with the wound. Spiderman held her leg firmly and asked her to quiet down. He finished it off by bandaging the wound. For the sprained ankle, he applied ointment and bandaged it.

"Your ankle is swelling a lot, stay here I'll get some ice." Spiderman spoke and he got to his feet and left.

The girl took this opportunity to observe her surroundings. The room looked like a bedroom belonging to a teen, with posters of Marvel movies hung on the wall, books stacked high and opened on the study table and clothes littered everywhere on the floor. It was messy, but it was a cozy kind of messy. Could this be Spiderman's own room? Before she could observe more, Spiderman entered the room with a bag of ice and placed it gently on her ankle. He sat at the end of the bed and stared at her though the eyepiece of his mask.

"Your name is Lauren, isn't it?" He asked quietly.

The girl nodded, "How do you know?"

"I remember you from the robbery incident in the grocery store."

"I didn't think that you would remember me."

Spiderman chuckled softly, "For a girl to do something brave like that, it's pretty memorable."

Lauren could only manage a smile; Spiderman could tell that she was still traumatized because of what happened.

"What were you doing back there in the pub by the way?" Spiderman asked.

"Uhm I was working." Lauren hesitated; she debated whether she should tell someone she doesn't even know about her business. But somehow there is this feeling where she felt that she could trust Spiderman.

"Working as?" Spiderman remembered the skimpy dress she wore under her trench coat, it was a black tube dress that insinuates her body shape and it reaches until just a little less than half of her thigh. "Please don't tell me as a stripper." He said jokingly.

"No, of course not." She replied, embarrassed. "I-I just sing there."

"You sing? Why in a pub?" Spiderman paused and continued. "Oh I get it, it is because of the money isn't it?

Lauren just gave an embarrassed nod. Tension was thick in the air and they both fell silent for a moment.

"One piece of advice, please quit your job." Spiderman suddenly spoke. "You are new here, you don't know how dangerous working in that environment will be. That pub you are working in has a horrible reputation."

"But what else can I do? It is hard to find jobs for a girl my age and I could really need the money."

"I know, but just try okay?"

"Okay." Lauren said quietly.

"And your parents allows this?" Spiderman wanted to avoid this sensitive question but he couldn't help to be worried for her.

"My dad works around the clock, so he doesn't know." Lauren muttered, almost inaudibly.

Spiderman just nodded in response. "Quit it, you can do better."

Lauren was taken aback by his concern, concern from a complete stranger. "Thank you, Spiderman. For saving me too." She managed a smile.

"You're welcome." He said softly. "I should get you back, it is getting late."

Lauren nodded and Spiderman carried her again. They both soared in the night sky and landed on the fire escape outside Lauren's room. Spiderman carefully stepped into her room and lay her down on her bed. She looked beyond tired, once she was on her bed, her body relaxes and her eyelids were shut. Spiderman took a good look at her for a while, before leaving into the night sky.
