A/N: I know its a little late, but HAPPY NEW YEAR fellow TWT fans. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to complete my TWT fanfiction and try to make a commitment in this small fandom. I mean, it still is a young fandom.
Another thing, the Trio is thirteen going onto fourteen. Enjoy!
Chapter 1: Another School Year Alone
The leaves were finally turning into beautiful shades of gold, red and orange. They swayed gently in the wind before meeting their fate with the concrete sidewalk. The faint 'crunch', 'crunch', 'crunch' of autumn leaves being crushed under the weight of two teenagers heading to school filled the silent morning.
"Joe, it's very nice for you to offer me an invite to Jetta's 'Back to School Bash' but I can't go." A lanky teenager with inky black hair and round glasses held an envelope and two thick textbooks at the same time.
"Aww, why not Sam? I mean, you, me and Fred haven't hung out with each other after what happened in the sixth grade…" Joe protested. He and Sam were walking to their middle school and were taking their time getting there. They were already in the eighth grade.
"I know, you don't need to remind me!" Sam crossed his arms over his chest and glared at no one in particular.
"Sam, I'm sure Fred really didn't mean to do that… it's just that – "Joe was interrupted by Sam once again.
"He cared more about being the hottest thing than being with his friends. Enough said." Sam turned around to face Joe.
Joe let out a sigh of defeat. It just hasn't been the same ever since what when down during the End of the School Year' party one of the most popular kids in school hosted.
Almost everyone was invited; Sam was only invited because he was Joe's friend. And one of the most popular girls in school had a crush on him. It was during the party that things started to go downhill. First of all, the kid that was throwing the party, his parents were away for the week. Second of all, it's started to get crowded. More and more people were heading outside into the patio where a huge pool and backyard was set. Someone had even smuggled in several pints of liquor, but only the freshmen were allowed to consume them. Joe and Sam realized that this wasn't their kind of party and decided to leave, but not without Fred… or wherever he was. He didn't arrive at the door when they asked him to come.
Fred had barged into the party (just as it was getting good) wearing his letterman jacket and did the secret handshake with his friends who happened to be jocks. Fred had finally made the football team and he was stoked to be invited to a cool kids' party. Some high school kids have even congratulated him for making it! Forgetting that he was supposed to meet his friends, he strutted out into the backyard patio to meet the rest of the football team.
It was there that Fred had his first sip of beer, ate a barbeque sandwich with a freshman, and played the game of truth and dare with the popular kids. The blonde was on fire, he continued to pick dare over and over again. Over the next two hours, Fred consumed a worm in a sandwich (he really flung the worm onto his shoulder and faked the whole thing), dunked his head in a vat of chocolate sauce and egg bombed his English teacher's car.
Meanwhile, Joe and Sam waited impatiently for Fred as Lindsey (the girl that had a crush on Joe) kept trying to talk with him. Joe kept replying back to her with one word answers, but the girl still didn't get that Joe didn't want to talk with her. He just wanted to see if Fred came. Sam stood up, finally having enough of waiting around for Fred as if they were his personal servants. Sam said that he didn't want to waste his precious time in a boring party if Fred wasn't here.
Joe told him to hush, but no anvil. Sam made his way to the patio in the backyard to go see if Fred was there and chew him out for keeping them waiting. Joe, worried about what will happen to Sam if the jocks got a hold of him, chased after Sam.
Sam found Fred enjoying himself with the popular kids. He walked up to Fred, snatched his hat off of his head and thwacked Fred with his blue baseball cap.
"Where have you been? Joe and I have been waiting for you for the last two hours!" Sam yelled at Fred.
"Dude, do you even know this nerd?" A tall, dark-skinned jock asked Fred. The way he looked at Sam wasn't a nice one.
"Yeah, what's he even doing here? I don't even think I invited the guy." The kid hosting the party, Jimmy Stone got out of the pool and dried his hair off.
"He's probably some delusional fan that snuck into the house trying to get my autograph…" Fred put his hands on Sam's shoulders and whispered in a low, quick voice, "I'll explain later, just get out of here!"
"No! I'm not leaving unless you are, Fred! I'm tired of waiting around for you!" Sam fought back, gripping Fred's baseball cap tightly. His face was starting to turn a deep shade of red from anger.
"You got some nerve, geek!" The black kid, Jamal glared at Sam. "Fred didn't even do anything to you and you're ready to go medieval on him!"
"Someone should put you back in your place!" A freshman drinking a pint of Jack Daniels pointed at him.
"Fred, you said you don't know him, is that right?" Jimmy asked Fred. Fred could only nod his head yes.
"Fred, you've got to be kidding me! We've known each other ever since we were kids! C'mon, let's just get out of this lame party!" Sam grabbed Fred by his developing biceps and tried to pull him forward, but he simply wouldn't budge.
"Sam, that's not true… this is a good party." Fred's face began to turn red from shame. A small crowd began to form around them.
"Now it is!" Some brunette laughed while pulling out her cell-phone, recording the whole episode. Others took out their cell-phones as well and began recording it.
"Sam… just beat it…" Fred mouthed to him, he was starting to loose his cool. Sam was preventing him from making new friends.
"You know what, Fred? You should just – "As quick as a wink, two arms shot out at Sam and tossed him into the deep end of the pool.
Joe made it in time to find his best friend struggling to keep his head out of water, but was failing miserable. Joe took off his shoes and jumped into the pool to rescue his friend. Everyone else was pointing and laughing at Sam. Fred just took one look at Sam nearly drowning in the pool and walked back inside.
"I'm going to make a sundae, anyone else want one too, follow me." Fred lead a whole group into the kitchen, and left a few people still watching Joe and Sam pick each other up from being humiliated by their friend.
Jimmy thanked Joe in secret and offered them both some warm, dry clothes. He even hailed them a taxi on the way home and paid their ride. He told them that he was sorry what ensued in the party and asked them that if there was anything he could do, he'll do it. Joe told him not to worry and that it was nice meeting him.
That was the last time Joe, Sam, and Fred were ever together as the trio.
"Joe, I don't mean you can't be friends with Fred or me, it's just that all three of us have gone our separate ways. I'm busy trying to win the valedictorian spot; Fred's trying to win the state playoffs and you're… doing your own thing." Said Sam, but it was obvious that he didn't want anything to do with both of them.
"I see…" Joe's face was full of disappointment as Sam gave Joe back the invitation.
"So this means we can never be friends after just an immature prank?" Joe thought to himself, staring at the invitation in his hand before crumpling up in his fists. He started at the crumpled-up invitation for a moment before looking up and finding himself alone. Sam had deserted him, again.
Joe slowly made his was to his middle school, just before the bell rand, signaling the other students that it was time for school to begin. Joe made his way to his locker in a daze, still in denial that his two best friends have gone in different directions. And here he was trying to pull the two back together again with no luck. He entered his first period without saying a single word to no one. No matter how hard he tried to stay focused in class, his mind kept drifting to his two old friends. Sam and Fred.
How could the two let their friendship fall apart if they didn't say anything to each other? How could they act like enemies if they were nearly killed more than a hundred times? If all three of them struggled to go back home to their time period in one piece?
Yes, it was another school year, another school year without his two best friends.
A/N: Yeah... I guess the Time Warp Trio went separate ways. And before anyone calls me out about how this sub-plot is a bit similar to "Life As We Know It" by Twizzler Addict, it pretty much is. But in truth, I planned this to happen. Its going to take a lot of trust for all of them to get together again. And everyone knows that once you become a teenager, life and friends is pretty much a cluster*instertbadword*
