*Flash back*

The three teen girls raced each other, laughing hysterically as they climbed the hill.

"Roxy! Slow down!"

"Never!"

"Ah! My thighs are burning!"

"Mine too!"

"Ah ha-ha-ha-ha! I WIN!"

Roxy jumped up and down, ignoring the fire in her belly and thighs.

Vale groaned as she fell to the grass.

"Geez, you're fast…how?"

"I dunno."

Roxy shrugged.

It was true, she was big-boned, slightly overweight, but she loved running…and she had a surprising amount of endurance and tolerance for pain. Not to mention she was stronger then she looked.

Star flopped into the grass alongside Vale, as Roxy gazed at the sunset.

Roxy sighed as she basked in the glorious light.

"So, Roxy, whatch'a thinkin?" Vale drawled as she rested on her stomach.

Roxy sighed.

"My crush."

"Who is it?" Star asked, interest flickering in her black eyes.

Roxy flashed a smile.

"Wouldn't you like to know."

"Aw, Rox." Vale grumbled as the sun sank lower beneath the horizon.

"You know, we ought to be getting back." Star said softly as she rose up.

"Wait, lookit the moon!" Roxy breathed as the full circle came into sight.

Vale rolled her eyes.

"You are a certified lunatic, Roxy!"

"Yeah? So what if I am?" Roxy murmured as the silver light caressed her face.

Sighing in ecstasy, she murmured," Sister Moon will be my guide…"

"I swear, if I hear you say that line ONE more time-"

"Well, well, lookie what we got here."

Star shrieked as four, rough-looking men came into view.

Roxy shuddered as she noted they all sported knives.

"Wha-what do you want?" Vale asked, in a strong tone, but she was clearly frightened.

"Well, whatever cash you got is good…not to mention some company would be nice." The oldest of the men smirked, looking Vale's developed body up and down.

"Back off, punks, you can take our cash, but not our bodies!" Roxy snarled, as a fierce anger coursed through her, overcoming her usual timidity.

Star paled as Roxy stepped forward, boldly growling," Leave them alone and get outta here."

"Ooh, what you gonna do, girly?" The man smirked as he suddenly lashed out and grabbed her arm, jerking her forward.

At this moment, Roxy let loose a shrill, blood-chilling cry that was neither human nor natural.

It curled the blood in Vale's heart, and suddenly, the man fell, his face scratched and his chest bleeding.

Before them stood a mutant, she was a strange, yet familiar form.

It was furry, feline, but…it was Roxy all the same. Twin, triangular ears poked out of her brown mane, and dusty gold fur covered her body, graced by rosy tiger-stripes.

A long tail swished from the opening of her shorts, and she now extended vicious claws from her fingertips.

The moonlight reflect off the bright blue eyes as a feral voice snarled," Back off!"

The three men lunged at her…and Roxy kicked their butts.

She moved faster then the eye could follow, and reacted twice as quickly. Soon, all three men were down, unconscious and bleeding.

The strange cat-girl turned to them, the pupils contracting and the expression incredulous as the cat-girl looked down at her new form.

"Ro-Roxy?" Vale ventured timidly.

"Yes, it is me." Roxy's voice was huskier, but it was her.

"Did…you know you could-"

"No, I didn't…otherwise, I would've told you." Roxy murmured as she retracted her claws, which were covered in blood not her own.

"Well, we don't have to worry about fingerprints, right?" Vale murmured as she came forward and took Roxy's hand in her own.

"I guess not." Roxy murmured as she sighed," I'm…I'm a mutant…I don't believe it."

"Roxy, you're…you're beautiful." Star suddenly blurted.

Roxy looked at her in surprise.

"What?"

"You look so strange like that, but it's totally you!" Star clarified.

Roxy blushed," Yeah…I wonder what all I can do…"

"You always did have incredible senses, your hearing, taste, touch and smell and your eyes too!" Vale noted.

Roxy murmured something and suddenly, she raced down the hill, moving like a streak as she leapt several feet into the air and landed on the trunk of a tree, moving quickly, she climbed, using her claws on her hands and feet to secure herself.

She leapt from one tree to the next, moving like a skilled acrobat, finally landing on the ground, not the least bit tired.

"Roxy…THAT WAS AMAZING!"

Star whooped as Roxy stood before them.

Roxy smiled," Maybe this is where all my energy comes from."

"Maybe, but now that you know you're a mutant, you need to be careful. You know how people feel about it."

"Yeah…Or how they don't feel." Roxy sighed.

"Don't worry, girl, we'll stick with you to the bitter end!" Vale declared stoutly as she slung an arm around the cat-girl, who morphed back into her human form.

As they walked home, Roxy asked casually," So, what do you think about the X-men?"

Vale sighed dreamily.

"Man alive, Wolverine's a hot, sexy, spunky-hunky!"

Roxy rolled her eyes.

"Gross, Vale, real gross… And I know you, Star, are head over heels for Nightcrawler."

Star shrugged, smiling dreamily," He looks like an elven prince…"

Roxy giggled.

"You'd never guess who I like."

"Let me guess…Colossus!"

Vale tried.

"No."

"Angel?"

Star guessed.

"No."

"Um..."

They looked at each other and shrugged.

"Who?"

Roxy blushed and looked away before sighing," Beast."

They all stared.

"The blue, furry guy?"

"Yeah…DON'T look at me like that!"

She growled.

"But…why him?"

"I dunno…he's cute…and from what I've heard, he's smart and sweet too!" She replied defensively.

Star wailed," Isn't he like, almost forty?"

"No…and Wolverine's even older!" Roxy snapped.

"Girl, you are WEIRD!" Vale giggled.

Roxy grumbled.

"Ah, go on… I like mature guys anyways…guys our age are too immature and into themselves!…Besides…He didn't always look the way he does…and everything I've heard about him… I can't help it."

The brown-haired girl wailed as she looked down in despair.

Star smiled.

"Well, I think Beast would like you."

Roxy blushed now, her golden fur turning pink.

"What? No way…he'd want someone more mature…more developed."

She scowled at her body.

"Girl, there's more to life then just boobs!"

Vale tried, but failed, as she had a nice rack. So did Star.

Roxy only scowled further as she glared at the twin slight peaks in her chest.

"Oh, well, who the heck cares? I'm never going to meet him!"

Roxy groaned

The Cat-girl sighed as she morphed back into a human.

Vale looked at her thoughtfully.

Star suddenly giggled.

"You need a mutant name, Rox!"

Roxy rolled her eyes.

"Like what?"

"Um…hm…What about…Faline?"

"Absolutely not."

"Um, Kitty?"

"No."

"OOH! I got it! LEO!"

Roxy lazily looked up at the dark night sky and the pale, full moon.

"No…maybe I'll think of a name later…right now, I am Roxy Morena. And that's all."
