Anna went for walks in the garden every morning, and Jamie would often watch her from the balcony overlook. She was beautiful, the more he looked at her, the harder it was to look away.

She had been in the gardens again that morning when someone came up to Anna and introduced himself. Jamie recognized him as one of his cousins, Tyrek Lannister.

Tyrek was very close to her, and she seemed to be quite uncomfortable with his fairly blatant advances. Jamie watched them with a close eye, but he hesitated to get involved because he didn't want her to know that he had been watching her. That all changed when Tyrek suddenly knelt in front of Anna, and Jamie's heart dropped. Was he asking her to marry him?

Anna took his hand and smiled while she shook her head gently. Even when she clearly didn't enjoy the man, she was still kind in rejecting his advances.

Of course, Tyrek Lannister was truly a deplorable human being. He grabbed her wrist harshly and pulled her close to him and growled something close to her face.

Jamie began to run from his place on the overlook and made it to them just in time to see Tyrek backhand her across the face.

Anna twisted and fell onto her stomach. Jamie shoved Tyrek aside and knelt down beside Anna, who was just beginning to get up. He helped her get to her feet, "Are you alright, Anna?"

Her hand was covering her cheek, but there was blood slowly dripping from between her fingers, likely from Tyrek's lion-ring.

"I'm okay," She said shakily.

Jamie was hesitant to let go of her, but he was eager to deal with his awful cousin.

"What do you think you're doing?" Jamie demanded.

Tyrek scoffed, "I graciously offered to marry that Stark bitch, but she had the nerve to reject me! A Lannister!" He spoke, outraged.

Jamie had enough. He punched him right in the face several times... while wearing his metal gauntlets.

"Jamie! Jamie stop!" Anna shouted from behind him. When Tyrek fell to the ground, Jamie continued punching his face. Anna came up beside him and grabbed his bloody hand. "Jamie..." She breathed.

Jamie looked at her, and he was expecting to see her angry or horrified at what he had just done in front of her, but she wasn't.

Suddenly one of Anna's men rushed to the scene and drew his sword, prompting Jamie to stand, gripping his own sword.

"Step back from Lady Stark, Kingslayer!"

"Hallis, it's okay," Anna said, moving between the two men. "Ser Jamie was simply protecting me against a Lord who seems to have never been told no in his life before this."

"Allow me to call for a maester my Lady," Hallis spoke.

Just then Tyrek made a coughing, groaning noise from below and everyone turned to look at him.

"Yes, that would be wise, but not for me," Anna said.

"Yes, My Lady."

Anna looked up at Jamie, "Thank you."

She left the gardens just before the Maester arrived, and Jamie had the urge to follow her, but he didn't. Someone needed to explain what had happened.

...

That night, Jamie and Cersei dined together, and Cersei questioned Jamie about the events of the day.

"Father won't be too pleased," She commented.

Jamie sighed, "Since when have you cared if father was pleased? And besides, I've always hated Tyrek."

Cersei rolled her eyes, "Even so, the Stark girl was foolish for refusing his offer."

Jamie's eyebrows narrowed, "How so?"

"He's rich, well connected, and above all, a Lannister," Cersei explained.

"He's a massive prick," Jamie argued.

"Why do you care so much about the Stark bitch anyway?" She questioned.

Jamie had to hold his tongue, "Why do you hate her so much? She's a nice girl. Certainly, she's never done anything to you."

Cersei looked at Jamie with annoyance at the fact that he wasn't agreeing with her.

"No, you're right. She's a sweet girl," Cersei began, "Sweet girls don't last long here."

Jamie grit his teeth together, "I hope you aren't planning anything sister, we don't really want to attract the ire of Ned Stark do we?"

Cersei sighed and rolled her eyes. She stood from the table and walked around behind him. She kissed his neck and rubbed his shoulders.

"Enough about the girl. I didn't ask you here to talk about her..."

Cersei kissed him, but he pulled away, "I can't. I told Tyrion I would drink with him tonight."

Jamie stood and Cersei scowled, "You're leaving me for our imp brother?!" She asked angrily.

Jamie simply left, not looking back.

...

Tyrion was with Anna, and she was telling him what had happened that morning.

"I don't know how he knew what was going on, but he... I really thought he was going to kill him," Anna said.

"Well, Jamie's always been... impulsive," Tyrion said. "How is your face feeling by the way? That's a nasty cut."

"It's fine, doesn't hurt too much," Anna told him.

Just then they heard a knock on the door, "Ah, that'll be Jamie," Tyrion said as he stood to answer the door.

Anna stood as Jamie entered, "Oh, Lady Anna, I didn't know you'd be joining us."

Anna smiled at him, "Actually, I was just about to leave. I have a lot of letters to write and I'm already tired."

He bowed his head slightly as she left and then he quickly turned to Tyrion.

"Is she upset that I was watching her?" He asked.

Tyrion raised an eyebrow, "You were watching her?"

"I always- she walks in the gardens often, I often look down at them from the balconies above. I thought that she was angry with me," Jamie explained.

"You seem to care a lot about what she thinks of you," Tyrion commented. "Not completely absurd I suppose. She does seem to be one of the few people left who doesn't refer to you by your very endearing nickname. But I think you're forgetting that she's the eldest daughter of one of the great houses of Westeros, and you can't marry."

Jamie just looked at Tyrion, "Who said anything about marriage? She's a child, Tyrion."

Tyrion grinned drunkenly, "Oh but she doesn't look like it, doesn't act like it either," Tyrion spoke and looked at his brother's reaction. "She likes you too you know."

Jamie's green eyes lept up to meet Tyrion's in surprise, "How do you know that?"

"She told me."

"She didn't."

"She did! She said that you were much different than she was expecting."

"Why couldn't that be in a negative way?"

"Because her father is Ned Stark brother, what do you think she was told about you from him? As I recall he didn't much like your guts." A small smile graced the face of Jamie as he looked briefly to the door. "You should go talk to her," Tyrion told his brother.

Jamie was already standing as he replied, "Yes, I think I will."

...

Dear Father,

You may hear of an incident that happened in Kings Landing, and I wanted to write to you first.

Tyrek Lannister asked for my hand in marriage and I declined, he took that as a great offence and found it right to attack me. Luckily Ser Jamie was nearby and stepped in.

No further action is required, I believe he learned his lesson when Ser Jamie nearly killed him.

Your loving daughter, Anna.

She finished writing her letter to her father just as there was a knock on her door. Not expecting anyone, she gripped her dagger under her skirts and approached the door. She opened it and was relieved to see Jamie

"Oh, Ser Jamie, please come in," Anna said with a relieved smile.

"I'm sorry if I startled you Lady Anna," Jamie apologized.

She smiled kindly at him, "No, not at all. Please, sit."

They sat opposite to each other at the small table in Anna's quarters.

"I wanted to thank you, for what you did today. I know Tyrek was your cousin, that couldn't have been the easiest thing to do," Anna said after a moment of silence.

Jamie chuckled, "It was no trouble Lady Stark, Tyrek was always a prick, even as a child I hated him."

Anna laughed a little, "You can call me Anna you know, not Lady Stark."

Jamie smiled, "Yes, but then you must call me Jamie, no more Ser."

"Alright, Jamie."

"Anna, do you mind if I ask you a personal question?"

"Of course."

"Why don't you call me... Kingslayer?"

"No one should call you that. You're a knight, it's disrespectful," Anna answered quickly and more passionately than Jamie would've expected.

"Yes, but everyone does anyway. You probably grew up around people who only called me that. So why not you?"

"Honestly?" Anna paused, "Because I think you did the right thing."

Jamie looked at her with great surprise, "What?"

"Who knows how many more people he would have killed, his life shouldn't have been more important than the hundreds of innocent people that died before him. If anything... I wish you had done it sooner," Anna said completely truthfully. "Then maybe my uncle and grandfather would still be alive."

Jamie looked down at the table, "I had advised him against killing them, but he didn't listen. 'Burn them all' was what he kept saying. When my father marched his army up to the gates of Kings Landing I knew what was going to happen, my father had never been one to fight for the losing side. I advised Aerys not to let him in, but he didn't listen. As my father sacked the city, Aerys told his pyromancer to burn Kings Landing to the ground. I killed him, and the Pyromancer too."

"Burn it to the ground? How could he have done that?" Anna asked.

Jamie looked wearily at her, "He hid caches of Wildfyre underneath the whole city. The streets, the Sept, even the Red Keep, he would have burned everything, everyone. Nearly a million people would have just been... gone. I couldn't just let that happen."

Anna looked at him in shock, "Why didn't you tell anyone?"

Jamie shook his head, "Ned Stark was the first person I saw after it happened. I looked at him and I knew it wouldn't have mattered what I said."

"He never could understand that sometimes the right thing isn't the most honourable," Anna looked at Jamie and put her hand on his, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry," Jamie said quietly. He grabbed her hand and kissed her palm. It was shockingly intimate, leaving Anna flushed. He stood and bowed his head to her, "Goodnight Anna."

"Goodnight Jamie."
