Chapter 4
Ash, accompanied by Brock, Misty, and of course his best Pokemon Pikachu went on a journey to the Johto region. The three of them landed in New Bark Town where they met the curious Professor Elm, a stressed out, nerdy man who seemed like he was a little in over his head with his occupation. He was glad to meet them and gave Ash a Johto Pokedex. In addition to this, Professor Elm also gave Misty a mystery egg, hoping that she could help him with his research on it. She happily obliged and the three of them quickly headed to Violet City, where Ash could challenge the first gym in the region. He received the badge from the gym and after that the three of them ventured to Azalea Town to fight the gym there. From there, the three friends traveled all around the Johto region, challenging gyms (Ash experienced trouble with the Goldenrod and Ecruteak gyms particularly) and learning more about the new Pokemon that lived in Johto. During the adventure Ash couldn't help but think about Gary again; wishing that he could forget about him for now, and enjoy his time in the new region, he was unable to fulfill his desires. Gary was the first thing that Ash thought about in the morning, and was the last thing that he thought about at night. For now Ash would have to live with this curse, but he couldn't help but enjoy it in a certain way.
The three friends were now in Cianwood City, a small coastal town on an Island southwest of Olivine City. The Island, normally sunny and pleasant was just that earlier in the morning, but as the day progressed, the sky turned purple and thunder clouds rolled in from the north. There was a gym in Cianwood that Ash was preparing to battle. The gym, being specialized in fighting types, provided a good opportunity for Ash to train his Noctowl. The three of them were hanging out on a beach north of Cianwood; Ash was training his Pokemon and Misty and Brock were tending to their own. Noctowl was performing aerial ace and hypnosis; Ash was becoming quite proud of his Pokemon and felt certain that he would be able to win the gym battle.
"You're really looking good out there, Noctowl!" cheered Ash, supporting his Pokemon. Noctowl gave out a loud screech in response.
"You'll be able to win this battle easy!" exclaimed Brock.
"Yeah, Ash, this'll be a piece of cake," added Misty.
Suddenly there was a loud piercing cry. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked around to see where the source was.
"Ah, what was that!?" questioned Ash looking at each direction.
"I don't know," Misty replied, rubbing her ears.
"Ah, guys!" shouted Brock, "look up there!" Brock pointed up a rocky cliff on the side of a mountain. Misty and Ash looked to where Brock was pointing; what they saw was a sight that almost did not believe. It was Raikou, the legendary dog of thunder that freely roamed across Johto. The majestic legendary, coated in yellow and black fur, stood strong and proud on the cliff, looking down at the three trainers below him. The sky now turned from purple to black, and heavy rain started to pour. Strong, violent cracks of thunder could be heard, following the strike of thick lightning bolts. Raikou continued staring at the three.
"What do you think it wants?" asked Misty quietly.
"I'm not sure," stated Ash who couldn't keep his eyes off of the legendary dog.
And almost as quickly and silently as Raikou had appeared, he went away. All three trainers blinked and suddenly the Pokemon was gone. The rain gradually went away, the thunder and lightening stopped, and the black storm clouds began rolling east, as if they were following the legendary Pokemon. Ash, Misty, and Brock began wondering if what they had seen was real, or simply a hallucination. They all looked at each other with puzzled looks and could only help but stare at the cliff that Raikou had perched on. Footsteps could be heard approaching the three of them, coming from the south. Pikachu and Noctowl were alert.
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu, warning the three friends.
"What is it buddy?" asked Ash, looking at the direction Pikachu was facing. All three of them were now alert, not knowing who was coming. What they saw was a boy running as fast as he could towards them. He was out of breath and stopped about twenty feet away from them. He rested his hands on his knees and tilted his head to look at the three trainers.
"Ugh, running on sand always kills me," the boy panted, "ugh, did I miss it? Is he gone?"
"Miss what?" inquired Brock, "who's gone?"
"Haha, yeah I should've clarified first," laughed the boy who was now standing up straight. Now that the boy was standing up straight all three trainers could see what he looked like. The boy had black hair, a similar shade to Ash's. He had a slight tan to his skin tone and had indigo colored eyes. He donned a gold and black hat and wore a red and white hoodie as well as gold and black shorts. There was a softness to his eyes that made him seem incredibly friendly, and the slight smirk on his face made him seem lighthearted and easy going. He was about an inch taller than Ash. When Ash laid his eyes on the boy time slowed down so that Ash could soak in every detail of the stranger. The caramel eyed boy felt infatuated with him. The boy picked up the conversation again.
"My name is Jimmy. I am a 13 year old trainer from New Bark Town who has collected every badge in the Johto region. I am now on a journey, trying to track down each of the legendary dogs, being Suicune, Entei, and Raikou that roam across the lands. I have managed to meet Entei already all the way in Mahogany Town, but I have yet to see the other two. I have been on this journey for nearly a year and I hope to see the other two before I turn 14."

"That's right, dude," started Jimmy again, "I've been on his trail for nearly three months but this was the closest I've been to him. Telling by the rain it seems like I just missed him."
"Yeah, he was only here for a few moments. The rain clouds seemed like they were heading east, and I assume that means that's where Raikou is heading?" said Brock.
"Exactly," replied Jimmy with a smile and confirmation in his tone. Ash began to blush when Jimmy smiled; he had to turn his face away. He loved the way Jimmy smiled.
"So what does that mean for you?" asked Misty.
"Well normally I would follow as soon as I could, but since all the ferries leaving the Island are done for the day, I guess I have to stay here," declared Jimmy.
"Are you staying at the Pokemon center?" asked Ash.
"That's what I planned on," the indigo eyed boy replied.
"Well, then you can come with us, I think we are done training for the day," mentioned Ash, looking around at Brock and Misty.
"Ash, you don't wann-" began Misty.
"Nope I think I'm done for the day," blurbed out Ash quickly. This got Ash a sour look from Misty.
"Well, if you guys don't mind me walking there with you, I'd be honored to join you," stated Jimmy with a smirk. Ash smiled happily back.
"We'd be happy to have you join us," said Ash. Ash returned Noctowl into it's Pokeball and the four of them headed back to the Pokemon center in Cianwood City, talking the whole way, getting to know each other. The four of them made their way to the Pokemon center, and got enough rooms for each of them. Jimmy then told his stories about starting out in New Bark Town with only a Cyndaquil, and then going on to win the eight Johto badges and then entering into the Silver League. "So how if Professor Elm?" asked Jimmy, "I haven't talked or seen him in quite a few months."
"He is... very nervous," answered Brock.
"When we arrived in Johto, he gave me an egg for research," added Misty, "and it eventually hatched into a Togepi."

Ash went on to receive the rest of the eight Johto badges and then went to enter the Silver League. He managed to reach the quarter finals again, but was defeated by a dragon type trainer from Goldenrod City. Ash initially felt disappointment, but was soon his happy self again after being cheered up by Misty and Brock. The three of them headed back to New Bark Town to say goodbye to Professor Elm, and then the three of them were on their way to Kanto; on their way back to Palette Town.
EDIT: So thanks to everyone who has read this far. my spring break is over meaning that I have less time to work on this fanfic, but rest assured that I am working on Chapter 5.
