Chapter Four:
Introductions
Unfortunately, Gabriel wasn't able to meet up with his cousin and friend until the end of the day since his cousin had gotten detention, though McCall didn't stick around, leaving almost immediately after school.
While he was tempted to just confront McCall himself, he decided against it on the grounds the talk probably wouldn't go as well without Stiles there as he dropped the blood relation card. Luckily, his sister didn't mind waiting as she was checking out some of the after school activities looking to join at least one of them.
However, though he was glad at the fortuitous intervention which allowed him to talk to at least his cousin without trouble, he was worried about the appointment he'd made earlier. That appointment of course being the Omega he saw earlier that he had ordered to wait for him till after school.
The problem was when he went outside to look for him: no Omega. And that was a very huge problem. Granted, he didn't expect for him to loiter around the school waiting for him, but he at least expected him to be there when he was finished for the day.
If he wasn't here then that meant his baser instincts had won out and pushed him to embrace his more animalistic qualities. Usually these qualities consisted of hunting and feasting on flesh which could go very quickly from animals to humans with Omega's.
Cursing, Gabriel could only hope that his cousin's detention didn't take that long. He needed to stop the Omega before he possibly killed someone or more likely, before the hunters found him.
Precisely an hour and thirty minutes later his cousin emerged from Harris's classroom with an irritated look on his face.
Gabriel called out to him. "Hey, your last name's Stilinski right?"
Stiles paused to look at him curiously. "Uh…yeah I am. And you are?"
"My name's Gabriel Williams." Gabriel held out his hand. "I'm your cousin from your mother's side of the family."
Stiles looked at him slightly stunned though he managed to recover and reach out and shake his hand. He watched as Stiles face ran the gamut of emotions from confused to curious to hopeful before finally settling on suspicion.
"Really? Well I don't think I've ever heard of you, let along any 'Williams' being part of the family. So I think I'm going to need some proof before I can believe you," said Stiles challengingly.
Gabriel shrugged. "I don't mind providing evidence. In fact if you call your father right now and ask him about having any relatives with the last name Williams, particularly Charles and Elizabeth Williams, I'm more than sure he'll remember. My parents told me we visited here twice, though you, I and my sister were very young during those times."
He hated having to waste time convincing his cousin of who he was but it was necessary else he wouldn't gain his trust. Though he did admire the fact that his cousin didn't just take the things people said at face value. It would help keep him alive, especially since he was now part of the supernatural world.
"You know what? I will." Stiles whipped out his phone and began to call his father.
Gabriel patiently waited while listening in as the Sheriff confirmed what he told Stiles, even saying he'd been visited by Gabriel's parents who had invited them to dinner sometime this week. Gabriel silently thanked his parents for their forethought.
Stile ended the conversation before turning back to Gabriel. A wide smile broke across his face as he spread his arms wide. "Well, hello cousin Gabriel!"
Gabriel grinned as he hugged his cousin. "Well, hello cousin Eluetherius!"
Stiles broke away from the hug while putting a finger up to his cousin lips. He quickly looked around while Gabriel couldn't help but look puzzled by Stiles' behavior.
"Shhhh! Don't ever, EVER, use that name around here! I go by Stiles, just Stiles, or Stilinski. Never my first name."
While still a bit confused by Stiles not wanting him to use his real name, he nodded his assent. "Okay, just Stiles it is."
His cousin nodded his head in relief and was about to speak again when his phone rang. He held up a finger," Sorry, wait just one moment."
Gabriel nodded and listened as Stiles friend Scott asked him was he out of detention yet and if he was going to meet him at the cemetery. He raised an eyebrow at the comment which went unnoticed by Stiles as he told Scott he was on his way.
Stiles turned to look at him with an apologetic look on his face. "Look I'd really like to hang and get to know you and your sister but right now I really have to meet my friend for something important. Could we meet up tomorrow after school?"
Gabriel considered his words carefully. While Jackson wouldn't completely transform into the Kanima until tomorrow night, the full moon, the change into a Kanima would definitely set in tonight which if not stopped would give him a chance to find a master and that would be very bad. That's why he would much rather stop that from happening as soon as possible. It wasn't a widely known fact, even to Alphas, that the bite could turn someone into a Kanima because it was a rare thing. He needed to be sure the problem was taken care of.
So, he decided to lay most of his cards on the table, though it wasn't like he hadn't planned to anyway.
"Yeah, that would be great. Though could you please tell me why it is a werewolf is eager to go to the funeral of a hunter, especially a hunter who was killed by a werewolf. That sounds both very dangerous and foolish."
Stiles froze staring at him with his mouth wide open in shock. "Uh,uh..wha…you…did you just?" Stiles shook his head to shake himself out of his shock. His expression then became serious. "How do you know that?"
Slightly releasing his control of the wolf, Gabriel let his eyes glow their reddish orange causing his cousin to once again gape in awe mixed with a bit of fear.
"I'm an Alpha werewolf which comes with many perks such as enhanced hearing and being able to sense other wolves, but most of all I did my research before I moved here. You'll soon learn that there is a lot more to your mother's side of the family then you've ever known. I don't have the time to explain everything right now and I know you don't either. However, I need you and your werewolf friend Scott's help with something. Once that's taken care of I'll answer any questions you have."
He waited as what he said sank into Stiles brain, quietly waiting for some kind of response. Hopefully it was a positive one.
Stiles stared into his eyes as if sizing him. Seemingly satisfied after several minutes he finally spoke.
"What do you need our help with?"
Twenty minutes later, Gabriel and Stiles arrived in their vehicles at the cemetery where the funeral was being held. Luckily for him his sister had made a few friends and hitched a ride with them. It wasn't really surprising; his sister was the epitome of a social butterfly, much faster at making friends than he was.
He decided to wait in the car until Scott and Stiles were through. He had been tempted to tell them hiding out at such a profile funeral was a terrible idea but decided against it since it wouldn't do to start telling them what to do when he barely knew them.
Instead he idly listened to what was going on: the arrival of the Argents, Stiles telling Scott about him, Scott beginning to argue with him about the decision, a sudden hush falling over the crowd that's later revealed to have been caused by Gerard's arrival (big surprise there) and Scott and Stiles being caught by the Sherriff.
Gabriel couldn't help but laugh as Stiles father berated them for once again being where they shouldn't, Mr. Stilinski reminding him of when his own father would chastise him for his behavior.
His laughter was cut short when he heard the call coming over the radio. His face immediately turned into a grimace at the news about the ambulance. He had no doubt the Omega was more than likely responsible. It looked like he might have to kill him after all, that is if the hunters didn't reach him first. He had no doubt they would be aware of the news soon.
Gabriel watched as Stiles and Scott quickly made their way to the Jeep, Stiles mouthing for him to follow them while Scott stared at him suspiciously. He simply waved at him.
Opting out of listening to their conversation as they made their way to wherever they were going, he took the time to call his parents and let them know the situation. They made him promise to call if anything went wrong and with a 'be safe' he hung up.
Unsurprisingly, they arrived about a mile away from the scene of the accident with the ambulance. It was likely Scott had smelled the Omega at school earlier.
Getting out his car he approached the two boys.
Scott spoke up first. "Stiles says you're his cousin."
"I am."
"And that you're an Alpha too?"
"Yup."
The two began to stare each other down both letting the shift reflect in their eyes. This went on for several moments until Stiles interrupted it.
"Hey, as much as I hate to break the macho werewolf routine, there's a possibly feral she werewolf on the loose who needs our help."
Gabriel broke eye contact first at the mention of 'she', while ignoring Scott's smug expression.
"What do you mean she?" asked Gabriel.
"Our friend Lydia, she was bitten about two weeks ago," said Stiles.
Gabriel silently listened as Stiles explained the situation to him.
"Anyway, long story short, she doesn't know anything about what happened besides maybe that a monster attacked her. So she's likely confused about what's happening to her."
Gabriel nodded in understanding. "Well I'll help you find your friend but I very much doubt she did this."
"And how would you know that?" interjected Scott.
Rolling his eyes at his behavior, "I would know because there was an Omega at the school today and he was pretty feral. He's more likely to have done this than your friend who though a new wolf with no control, wouldn't be craving human flesh."
"An Omega?" asked Stiles.
"The lone wolf. Either a werewolf that lost its pack, was kicked out of it or they decided they wanted to be on their own."
"So, you don't have to be part a pack?" asked Scott with a hopeful look.
He sighed at the look in Scott's eye. Another werewolf who doesn't want to be a werewolf. God, it was like looking in the mirror at a younger him. Though just like him Scott would have to come to terms with what he was now.
"I won't say 'you don't have to' but you can choose not to be part of a pack. It's not a wise choice but the choice can be made."
Stiles gave him a puzzled look. "Why isn't it a wise choice?"
Gabriel made sure to choose his words very carefully. "Being in a pack is about more than just protection from hunters and greater strength. It's also a stabilizing agent. When in a pack the members help each other not to succumb to their inner wolf, thus keeping one another sane and whole. A person without a pack doesn't have that stability needed to help with reigning the wolf in and of course there at whoever comes across them mercy. Let me tell you, most packs don't take kindly to Omegas. If they don't run them off or kill them then they pretty much become a pack's slave."
"Wait. They actually do that? Slavery?! As in own people as actual slaves?!"
"Yes, actual slaves Stiles. Though those packs which do it are usually those more in touch with….their primal side. Yet, at the same time it's not uncommon, just not as widely practiced as it once was."
"So if I were to become an Omega..?" Scott said trailing.
"You'd always have to be looking over your shoulder and eventually your inner wolf would start to slowly take over. It might take years but it'd eventually happen. Then you'd be either taken down by hunters or another wolf, either by an Alpha or that Alpha's Betas since it's an Alpha's responsibility.
"But what about you?" asked Stiles.
"What about me?"
"Aren't you a lone wolf? Unless, there's a pack with you?"
"No, I don't have a pack but I'm an Alpha. An Alpha can afford to be a lone wolf for much longer than a Beta or Omega can. The same goes for born wolves too. However, we still feel the pull to form a pack or be part of one. While an Alpha doesn't have to be in a hurry to start one, we do need a pack."
The boys were both silent for a moment as they seemed to process his words. Gabriel couldn't help but notice the conflicted look on Scott's face.
He decided to break the silence. "Alright, we need to find out where your friend and the Omega are before the hunters find them. Trust me when I say they won't be merciful."
"Right," echoed Stiles and Scott.
They moved closer to the accident, making sure to stay hidden in the trees while looking it over. It was definitely a very bloody scene to behold. The back of the ambulance was wide open with a dead man laid out on the stretcher mouth wide open along with his chest. The EMTs looked shaken by whatever they had seen and the police were puzzled trying to make sense of things.
Stiles reached into a bag he had with him and pulled out a bloodied hospital gown.
"Is that what your friend was wearing?"
Stiles nodded. Gabriel took the gown and brought it to his nose inhaling deeply. Once he'd gotten a lock on it he passed it to Scott who got the scent before giving it back to Stiles. Gabriel also made sure to scent the air to get the Omega's scent again too.
Scott was just about to take off when he grabbed his jacket to stop him. Scott gave him an irritated look but backed down when he flashed his eyes at him.
"Wait. My sense of smell is better. I can track a scent up to 100 miles and find the freshest trail."
Briefly closing his eyes, Gabriel opened them again, his eyes glowing their reddish orange. He felt his eyes perception sharpen as they gave color to the scents he was looking for. The Omega's was a dark blue and was headed away from their location about 30 miles out. Unfortunately, the area he was in smelled of hunters. They had to get to him fast.
The girl's was…close. Her scent trail was a light purple actually heading in their direction about 5 miles or so out. Though oddly enough her scent was…different. He'd barely registered it when he'd sniffed the hospital gown, simply thinking it some kind of medicine they'd given her but this, this wasn't the case. However, while it was different it wasn't the kind of scent Stiles and Scott were expecting.
Letting go of his enhanced sight Gabriel looked at the both of them who had impatient looks on their faces.
"I found both of them. The girl is very close but the Omega is some distance away. Also, you're friend's not a wolf."
"What?! What do you mean she's not a werewolf! And her name's Lydia by the way. Also, how?! She was bitten and she's not dead, so she has to be a wolf right?" said Stiles dramatically.
"Right. I thought the bite either turned you or killed you," added Scott.
Gabriel gave an irritated huff. "That's usually how it goes, but not always. There are exceptions to the rule and your friend is one of them, along with your classmate. Christ, there must be something in the water here for there to be two exceptions in one place."
"Classmate?" asked Scott.
Gabriel turned to Stiles. "You didn't tell him about Jackson?"
"Jackson! What about him?" Scott asked puzzled.
Stiles sighed. "No, I just told him there was someone Derek bit that we needed to help out." He turned towards Scott. "I didn't tell you it was Jackson because I knew you'd freak out."
"How can I not? We were just at school talking to him about Lydia possible turning into a werewolf and there he was turning into one too! How could I not sense it?"
"You're still a pup. It'll be a while before you're accustomed to certain smells like a turning or newly made wolf." Scott wrinkled his nose at being called a pup.
Stile and Scott moved to open their mouths to no doubt to ask more questions, but he cut them off with a growl.
"We don't have time for explanations right now! Stiles, you need to grab Lydia before she catches hypothermia with how cold it is out here and her being naked. Scott and I need to go catch the Omega quickly! He's in an area that the hunters have recently been to and I'd bet money the area's bobby trapped and that they plan to come back to it soon. Let's get this done so we can take care of an even bigger problem. Got it?"
The two obediently nodded. After pointing Stiles in the right direction to find Lydia, he and Scott took off to find the Omega. The two shifted and got on all fours to increase their speed towards their destination.
Fifteen minutes later and they found the Omega a few feet in front of them.
Before he could stop him Scott tackled the Omega taking them to the ground before they broke away from each other and stood up. Scott yelled at him to stop which caused the Omega to briefly pause before launching himself at Scott. Gabriel watched the two fight for a bit to see how good Scott was, only to learn he wasn't very good at all.
He was just about to step in when he caught both the scent of Derek Hale and the hunters. Now very wary Gabriel moved to help Scott subdue the Omega, but he got loose before he could reach him and began to run away.
"Wait!" yelled Scott, but the Omega didn't even look back.
"C'mon, we need to catch him now! I just smelled the hunters!"
They both took off as fast they could after him and were just about to box him in when it happened. The Omega stepped on one of the Argents traps which lifted him into the air, tied up by his hands and far out of their reach.
Scott was about to attempt to cut him loose when suddenly Derek appeared behind him and pushed him away with not a glance in his direction. The Alpha then proceeded to drag Scott away moving to behind some trees. Gabriel was at first confused by his actions for a few seconds until he heard it. Hunters.
Cursing himself for not catching the Omega when he had the chance, Gabriel moved to hide where Derek and Scott were.
Derek shot him a dirty look which he chose to studiously ignore as the other Alpha kept ordering Scott to be quiet as he continued to say he could help the Omega. Scott looked up at him with a betrayed look, causing him to shake his head and point out to where the Omega was tied up.
Not a minute later then a large group of hunters appeared carrying their weapons. Among them were Gerard and his son Chris.
Gabriel watched as Chris circled the Omega before taking out a cattle prod and shocking him causing him to revert back to human form. Suddenly, getting an idea as Chris started his interrogation; he took out his phone and began to record. He saw both Scott and Derek give him questioning looks; however he kept his eyes and phone on the scene.
As he watched Gerard Argent go on to explain what an Omega was, proceed to cut said Omega in half with a two handed great sword and then tell the hunters that they were no longer following the code, Gabriel couldn't have been more assured that deciding to record this was definitely the right decision. With this evidence he would have little trouble calling in the tribunal or at worst, back-up.
He made no objections as Derek forced Scott to look at the sight, because what the Alpha said was true. He needed to see this. He needed to know what could happen to him at the hands of a hunter, especially one who cared nothing about the fact that he hadn't hurt anyone. And he needed to realize that being part of a pack was very important to a werewolf's survival.
"What are they doing?" asked Scott in a whisper.
"Declaring war," said Derek grimly.
Scott looked to him to get his opinion. Gabriel nodded. "He's right, their declaring war on us. Things are about to get very dangerous and very deadly for us wolves."
Looks like coming to Beacon Hills wasn't as great an idea as he'd thought it was. This place would soon be a warzone.
