Author's Note: Hey guys, I'm back again with another one-shot! Moving away from the last chapter, the fun of Halloween, I decided to take a different approach to the holiday this chapter: Fear. Fear all comes to us a least a few times in our lives, and you can't deny it, so I just wanted to display it in here. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure if you guys would like this, but I just decided to publish it anyways. This one-shot will incorporate some Raph and Mikey brotherly moments that I could not resist to put in here. Enjoy!
Fears In The Night
Donnie snapped the ending credits off of the tv, turning the screen pitch black, the four now able to see their reflection from the screen.
The four were sitting on the floor all wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket, their mound of candy further behind them.
"I have to hand it to you, Donnie." Raph looked at his younger brother with a smile. "You did a good job picking that horror movie. It was great!"
Donnie agreed. "Yeah, I found it the other day. I looked it up after I found it and it said that it was supposed to be really good."
"Yeah, it was good but it sure was a little freaky. At least it isn't real though," Leo added.
Meanwhile, Mikey was silent. He was quietly shivering, petrified of the movie they just watched.
"I didn't know if you guys wanted to watch another or not, but I found the sequel too," Donnie started. "What do you say, guys? Watch it or no?"
"Donnie did you seriously just ask that?" Raph questioned him sarcastically. "Of course we're watching it!"
"Yeah, put it in. It is Halloween night after all," Leo chirped.
"Are you in Mikey?" Donnie asked Mikey, who wasn't really paying attention to the conversation. Mikey didn't respond. "Mikey?" Donnie questioned again.
"Huh?" Mikey finally realized they were talking to him.
"I said," Donnie started again. "We were going to watch the movie's sequel. Are you in?"
Mikey froze, sitting more stiffly than before. He thought to himself miserably, 'More?! Of...that?! How? I was scared of the first one and now there's a second?'
"Umm, no thanks, Donnie. I think...I'll just go to bed now," Mikey said, trying to pass with his lie. He added a fake yawn for a better effect.
Without hearing his older brothers responses, Mikey got up quickly with his blanket secured tightly around him, to take off to the direction of his room and out of Donnie's lab.
'I can't believe I watched that movie,' Mikey thought to himself, while he was walking quite fast to his room. 'Now I'm going to be scared all night.'
Walking to his room fast-paced, he kept on looking every way possible, trying to make sure that he was alone. That movie was getting to him more and more by the second.
He knew that it was going to be a bad idea to watch it, but he did it anyway, trying not to be called 'a baby' by his brothers. He just didn't think that it was going to be that scary though.
With his quick speed, Mikey finally made it back to his room, which he thought it took an eternity to do so. Opening his decorated door and entering, he did not hesitate to shut it as fast as he could when he turned around, but he added a little too much of an unintended force.
He sighed, quickly running up onto his bed to get in the covers, clutched tightly to his teddy bear stuffed animal.
'I'll forget in the morning if I just go to bed right now,' He thought before adding, 'Just don't think about it and I'll be fine.'
With this, Mikey reached over to turn off his light to now be in a seemingly scarier than normal-to him- room full of darkness.
Frightened even more by the sudden pitch darkness, he pulled the covers over his face, only able for his blue eyes to see everything.
As he lay there, he could not get images of what he saw in the movie out of his head. He felt like his mind was perfectly repeating the storyline over and over again, never wanting him to finish watching.
Mikey tried to fall asleep but wasn't very successful. Every time he closed his eyes, he just resulted to opening them back up to check to see if everything was normal, which it always was, but being as scared as he was, he couldn't help but check to be sure.
After what seemed like hours of sitting in the dark, getting more scared by the second, he made a plan: 'Get out of bed, quickly going to someone's room, and see if they are awake. I can't stay here all night.'
With this, Mikey waited a few minutes before doing so.
Getting out of the bed was a challenge itself. He kept on replaying images of the movie in his head, they never seemed to want to leave. Wanting to continue, he forced himself to get out, only looking behind his a few times compared to many before grabbing his teddy bear and going out.
Getting to the door was a stretch, but he made it out and just started to stealthy jog to the bedroom quarters his and his brothers shared. Getting freaked out even more by himself in the dark, he wasted no time looking around to which bedroom he would go in.
He saw that Leo's was on the right side of the corridors, Donnie next to that one also. He didn't really feel like Donnie would want to be bothered by him again, so he didn't decide to go there, and Leo, well he didn't want Leo to think of him as a crybaby, so he didn't want to go there either.
He was left with no other choice. His hot-headed green-eyed brother: Raph. He felt like it would be okay to go with Raph because with him, he might have said things that might sound rude or offensive, but they were never true, and no matter what, he never judged his siblings deep down. Mikey wasn't really worried about getting yelled at for going in his room during the night, his fears belonged to the terror left in his mind from that horrid movie.
He ran to Raph's room that was right next to his. Opening the door ever so silently, he entered, trying not to awaken his big brother while he slept. Raph generally was a heavy sleeper and everyone pretty much knew it in their family. Although Mikey wouldn't want to take any chances by disturbing his sleep, his brother would most likely get a rude awakening in the morning.
Mikey didn't regularly do this, but this wasn't any regular time. He was scared, but as soon as he was in the room with one of his family members it made him feel safer. As if the seemingly real, fake, ghosts and monsters would not get him because he was with his family now.
Very carefully he crawled in the bed and covered himself in Raph's tiger bed sheets, moved as far to the edge as possible, and fell asleep. Gradually losing his fear he had stuck in his mind all night.
Raph opened his emerald green eyes.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary to him. He was in his room, nothing was messed up or ruined. Spike was sitting on the little box bed beside him, but as Raph shifted himself to face the other side of this room he saw Mikey clutching his teddy bear on the other side of his bed.
"AHH!" Raph was shocked that Mikey was in there and immediately got annoyed. His shout of shock jolted Mikey awake, him being so close to the end of the bed he rolled off accidentally. "Mikey! Why are you in here?!"
Mikey who was on the floor now, got up, to face his older brother. 'He wants to know why I'm here? I don't want to tell him I was scared, then he would make fun of me and tell the others,' Mikey thought to himself.
"Yeah, um, sorry Raph," Mikey started to think of something else to tell him other than the truth. "Well, last night it was really cold in my room. And I was freezing. Something must be wrong with the temperature in my room, I should have Donnie come to see if there is something wrong with it, but I was freezing and I just decided to come in here and it was warm so I stayed." Mikey tried to pass with his lie knowing it was obviously not even a good reason to tell him.
"What?" Raph was confused even more, but being so tired in the morning didn't put much thought into his younger brothers explanation. "We live in a sewer Mikey, the temperature in our room is the same." He rolled his eyes.
"Yeah well, you don't know that! Maybe something was wrong with my room last night!" Mikey got defensive and quickly walked out of his room trying to avoid the conversation. As Mikey was walking out he heard Raph make a long sigh.
After training, the turtles set off to do their usual things. Leo had already asked to have an extra training session with Master Splinter, so he was away for a good hour or more. Raph was relaxing and doing whatever, while Donnie was in his lab yet again working on something new.
Mikey, walked around trying to find something to do. Walking around, he headed to the kitchen. "Some lunch would be good!" Mikey said to himself and smiled cheerfully.
After getting something to eat, Mikey took his plate of food to Donnie's lab to see what his genius brother was up too. Seeing him sitting at his big counter space writing something, Mikey went up to him.
"Whatcha working on D?" Mikey asked, with his mouth stuffed with food.
Donnie looked up. "Actually Mikey, I'm not sure yet. I have really wanted to try to make something new, but I can't really think of anything. I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas on paper but its like once in my life my mind is blank!"
"Well, I'm sure you'll think of something," Mikey said back.
"yeah...Eventually," Donnie retaliated.
There was an awkward silence conversation before Mikey spoke up. "I guess I'll get out of your way then."
"Okay," Donnie said. "See you later."
With that, Mikey got out of the lab and found himself wandering into the living room.
Alone he was again. Alone in the living room, not really knowing where his other two brothers were. Alone again, he thought about the movie on pure accident, thinking about how the movie, and what happened to the character, when he was alone.
With his nervousness returning, he got off the couch, he wandered around the lair hoping to find a familiar face.
Mikey kept walking around, looking for at least one of his brothers. The lair was silent.
"Whatcha doing Mikey?"
Mikey jumped out of his skin when he heard his name being called, considering the lair had been dead silent a moment ago and he didn't see anyone even while looking. Mikey wiped his head around to face who said it, relieved to find that it was only Raph.
Mikey hurried over to his big brother. "Well, I was just looking for anyone, " Mikey said before embarrassingly asking, "Raph do you want to play a few video games or something for a bit?"
Raph shrugged. "Sure. Why not?"
The two mutant turtles played video games for a long time, before getting called to dinner.
"Goodnight!" All four of them said to each other, walking to their room for bed.
Mikey, in his room, sat on his bed, dreading having to turn off the light and fall asleep.
Overreaction you may call it, but what a child sees that is not of their normal, and something that seems just the tiniest bit creepy to get to their conscious, is fear. And that is what he felt inside. It swarmed him, making him be cautious. Trying to look in every direction of his room before settling into his bright orange colored covers.
After what felt like an eternity of waiting for nothing, he finally got it the covers, desperately debating if he were going to try and fall asleep tonight.
With his bright lamp light still on, he noticed something. Every minute he waited earlier, the light was gradually fading, dimming out more and more by the second, flickering every few minutes or so. He hadn't noticed it then, but now he had.
He looked at the lamp next to his bed carefully. Unexpectedly, the light flickered a few times a minute, then without a second to spare, all light deceased from it. The room filled with darkness, not a shine of light left.
Mikey, eyes wide full of shock and fright, took off out of his bed and out of his room and let off a faint screech. He ran to the bedroom quarters, getting as far away from his room as he could. How 'haunted' it seemed to be. And how real he thought it was.
Without looking back to his unexpectedly dark room, he saw Raph's room and ran towards it. He quietly and quickly opened his door, hoping to find his big brother fully awake, but thanks to his unlucky self, he found him sound asleep, snuggled up on one side of the bed.
'I am staying here tonight again! There is no way I'm going back in that room. That happened in the movie too,' Mikey trembled in his thoughts.
Staying next to his big brother, he felt safer, but fear still consumed him. '...Why did I watch that movie?'
Raph sat up, an annoyed face facing his youngest brother sleeping on the far side of his bed.
Raph knew Mikey wasn't going to wake up right there on the spot but it just annoyed him even more. "MIKEY!"
Mikey jerked his head up, trying to get conscious again. "What? I'm awake, I'm awake!" Mikey rubbed his eyes trying to stay alert, realizing it was just Raph.
He knew that Raph was going to ask him, more like demand him, to tell him why he awoke in his room again.
"Mikey," Raph started. "Why are you in here again?"
"Uh...," Mikey tried to say something but hesitated. "I, uh,...its cold again!"
Raph rubbed his eyes. "Okay, is this a regular kind of thing with you now? Because if it is, don't lie. Why are you here?"
"Promise to not make fun of me?"
"Whatever," Raph responded.
"Well, a few nights ago...Do I really have to tell you?"
"YES! yes, I mean. If you are going to start sneaking in here every night I need to know how to help you and get you to not stay in here!"
Mikey caved in. "Fine! I've been scared ever since that night we watched that movie. You guys thought it was good, I thought it was scary, and I can't get it out of my head and I kept on thinking about it for the last few nights."
Raph didn't judge him, he nodded his head and listened to what his brother had to say.
Mikey continued, "I couldn't fall asleep 'cause I thought something was going to happen to me like in the movie, and then I just came in here cause it felt safer than being in my room alone in the darkness! Then last night I was about to turn off my lamp and I was didn't want to even turn off my lamp and then when I turned to look at it, it started to flicker and then the light just went out when I was looking at it and that scared me even more so I just came in here again. Please don't be mad."
Raph got off his bed and put an arm on Mikey's shoulder, basically suggesting that they both walk out of the room to talk.
Mikey started to speak again, "Please don't call me a baby! I don't know why but it just scared me, and the light thing," Mikey started to whisper. "What if something in my room did that to it?!"
Raph shook his head, while they were both in the kitchen about to get breakfast for themselves.
"Mikey, it's all right. The movie wasn't real so try not to stress about it okay?" Raph said softly, obviously trying way too hard to be supportive.
Raph looked both ways, just to make sure nobody but them were there.
"Don't tell the others I told you this, or I'll smack the green off your face...but its okay to be scared. Everyone is at some point in their lives. Its nothing to be ashamed of," Raph told Mikey.
"You mean you were scared of the movie of the movie too?" Mikey looked up to him.
"Pshh, no! You think I'm scared of that movie? Mikey, I'm not scared of anything!" Raph said boldly, which just earned a little laugh from Mikey. "What?"
"Nothing Raph, it's just that you said you weren't scared of anything." Mikey laughed some more.
"Yeah...so?"
"You're terrified of cockroaches dude!" Mikey reminded him.
"Oh shut up! That's not even true...but if I was, I would be facing my fear every day, just by living down here! You see I'm not scared of anything!"
"What are you talking about? You have a few giant cans of bugs spray above and next to your bed! That's not facing your fear," Mikey said jokingly.
"Fine!" Raph admitted. "I do get scared sometimes, so that should show you that fear never hurt anyone. It's not something you can just stop immediately, you got to face it or you're never letting it go."
"Well, then how do you face a fear of a movie? I don't want to be scared to sleep in my own bed every night Raph!"
"It's not that hard. You just need to face it. And If you don't do it yourself then I'll help you because I doubt you can do it on your own," Raph said smugly.
"Hey!" Mikey took offense. "Wait, how do I do it?"
"Argh, I guess I have to help you! You can't just sneak into my room every night, so you are going to learn to face this fear," Raph started before looking both ways before speaking up again. "If you tell the others Ill smack you, but I'll stay in your room with you tonight, just to make sure everything is all right, and to make sure you think that its fine, which it is."
"Really? A sleepover!?" Mikey got excited.
"Fine whatever." Raph shrugged it off. "Just this one night though. Just to make sure you won't come to my room and scare me half to death when I wake up and you're on the other side of my bed. Ill get Donnie to check what happened to your lamp, although it was probably nothing."
"Thanks, Raph."
Night had come, after a somewhat seemingly short day. Another night, another stage of darkness, well, Mikey thought so. Raph and Mikey waited for Donnie and Leo to be out of their sight before Raph went to make sure that his younger brothers room was okay.
Mikey looked at Raph confused. "Why are we even waiting for them to leave, they are already gone. And it's not like they are going to come into my room in the middle of the night."
"Well, that's what you did to me the past two nights," Raph remarked to Mikey's comment while his big green arms were crossed. "Besides, I thought you didn't want 'further embarrassment' and I don't want them to know I'm helping you out."
"Fine," Mikey gave in. "Wait why? You're being a great brother right now. We already know that deep down your just a big soft teddy bear."
"Yeah well, I don't want them to know that even more. Wait, what are you talking about? I am not!"
Mikey smiled slightly and said sarcastically, "Sure, Raph."
"After I help you out, you better not come in my room anymore," Raph told Mikey.
"I understand Raph! And I won't do it again I promise!" Mikey stated.
"...Right," Was all that Raph said before walking into his younger brothers pitch dark room.
"I made Donnie come in here today when you were doing whatever the heck you do during the day, and I told him to check out what happened to your lamp." Raph pointed at Mikey's lamp before walking over to it and turning it on, which made the darkness of the room turn into a bright blaze of light. "He said that you have just used it so much or it wore out, or the flickering is a sign of it not screwed in all the way or something. I don't know what he said exactly. But he just replaced it with a new one. That means that there is no ghost or monster or whatever the heck you think did that to it last night."
Mikey sighed in relief, sluffing down to normal size, not his tense position he had just been in a few moments ago. "One mystery solved!" He said cheerfully.
"Okay, then what else are you scared of, about this movie that scared you?" Raph asked him.
"Um...I don't know, I just...I didn't like the movie and it made me think that what happened in the movie will happen to me, or I'll see one of those monsters and they will haunt me," Mikey told Raph in a whisper.
"Mikey, that was a movie. One hundred percent made up. Nothing is going to happen to you, see?" Raph went over to open up Mikey's closet door to reveal nothing, absolutely nothing, inside of them.
Raph turned around to face Mikey. "Mikey, you are good? You goin' to be okay?"
Raph waited for the answer before steadily walking towards the door but was stopped by a quite loud shout of, "Wait!"
Raph turned towards his younger brother again for him to talk. "Please stay in here tonight Raph! Don't go!"
"I wasn't you little doofus, I was going to get us something to eat." Raph smiled, and so did Mikey.
Walking in a few minutes later, Raph threw a few bags of chips on the ground where Mikey was, before plopping down right next to him.
"How late are we going to stay up Raph?" Mikey asked, munching on a bunch of chips.
"I don't know. I'll probably just wait till you fall asleep then go into my room," Raph responded.
"What? No, you promised you would stay in here tonight!" Mikey pleaded.
Raph gave him an 'im joking face' and Mikey finally got it.
As the night went on and morning came, Mikey soon realized that his little fear was silly. None of that was going to happen to him, only to the characters in the movie. Drifting off to sleep, Mikey realized how you can never truly be afraid when you have your family stay by your side and be there for you, no matter what.
Author's Note: Do you guy know the feeling of being scared of a movie and you just can't seem to get some of the scenes out of your head? Well, I do sometimes, so I just wrote this in the spirit of Halloween. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure on publishing this one, but I just thought 'Why not?', you know? I hope it's not too bad. Did you guys like it? I would love to hear your guy's thoughts about it so please review!
