Chapter 4

Electrical Battle Trouble

Place: In Font of Professor Juniper's Laboratory, Nuvema Town, Unova Region

As I bid farewell to mama and big brother Lucario, I stepped out from the lab only to hear two voices down the street. It was Ash and Trip! I sneaked towards them to hear better, hiding behind some bushes.

"Ash, Ash! Look, I'm all better!"Pikachu exclaimed as he ran out of the lab past me and into the arms of his trainer.

"Done with your test huh?" Ash scratched at Pikachu's cheeks lightly as he laughed.

"Yes, I am," Pikachu replied happily.

"Who's that Pokémon?" Trip asked in wonder as he took out his Pokédex and aimed it at Pikachu.

Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon, and the evolved form of Pichu. Pikachu's tail is sometimes struck by lightning as it raises it to check its surroundings.

Trip switched out his Pokédex for his camera and started to take photos just as I walked up.

I rose an eyebrow, asking, "Never saw a Pikachu before, Trip? Plus, what are you doing?"

Trip turned to look at me then back at Ash. He shoved his camera back into his pocket and stood up. "No, I haven't. This is why we don't like people from the boonies. Listen up, a Pikachu in Unova is huge. It's a really big deal." His hand was balled into a fist.

"It's not a big deal. Pikachu is my number one partner and buddy!"

"Same here, bud!"Pikachu agreed with an enthusiastic tone.

"Huh. Is it strong?" Trip grinned. I knew that grin anywhere. A battle was about to occur between them.

"Oh, you bet! Wanna see?" Ash now had the same grin Trip had.

I rolled my eyes. Perfect... Just perfect…

"Sure I do!" Trip answered. Just as I was about to leave before thing got bad, he pulled me back by my wrist. "And you're watching too."

Needless to say, I didn't want any part of this. But it didn't seem like Trip was going to let me go anyways. I looked up towards the sky and sighed exasperatingly, rubbing my neck. Why me…?

Place: Battle Field, Next to Professor Juniper's Laboratory, Nuvema Town, Unova Region

They found a battlefield behind the lab and used the vacancy to their advantage. Both boys stood opposite of each other on the field, Ash and Pikachu at the left and Trip on the right. I reluctantly sat by the grass in the area.

"Snivy, go get them now." Trip called out Snivy, who looked upon Ash and Pikachu with a cool gaze.

"Here I come!" Snivy prepared himself to battle, his tail up in the air and ready to attack.

"Let's do this, Pikachu!"

"Yeah!"Pikachu hopped off Ash's shoulder and readied himself for battle.

Both Pokémon and trainer were surprised by Trip starting to take pictures again.

I asked, "Why are you always taking pictures?"

Trip scrolled through his photos before putting his camera away. His eyes then darted to me with a soft glare. "I'm recording my journey, and remember, this is Snivy's first battle."

I noticed Oshawott peeking from a tree, curious about what was going on. It caught me staring at it and got scared. I smiled and pretended to zip my lips, making the water Pokémon smile, and then turned back to the upcoming battle between Ash and Trip.

Ash chuckled and pointed at himself. "And this is our first battle in the Unova Region. So, we'll go first. Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"

Pikachu gained power and ran at top-notch speed at Snivy, who was thrown into the air but landed back on its feet.

"Snivy, use tackle."

Pikachu dodged, as Ash commanded, as Snivy lunged at him a few times before stopping a few feet from the former.

"Alright, Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu mustered the energy to his cheeks and attempted to emit the electricity. But no sparks came out. Weird! A Pikachu that can't use lightning? How come?

Pikachu took an unexpected attack by Snivy, staggering back until Ash commanded for another Thunderbolt. But nothing happened. Ash and Pikachu couldn't understand what was happening.

"This can't be… Why can't Pikachu use his moves?!" Ash muttered to himself.

"Why... why can't I use Thunderbolt?" Pikachu asked worriedly.

I stood up. I had to end this whether they liked it or not. Pikachu was already panting hard, as he was more damaged than his opponent, while Snivy barely broke a sweat.

"Pikachu, use Iron Tail," Ash called out.

"Snivy, use Vine Whip," Trip commanded.

"Big brother Lucario," I whispered and the said Pokémon appeared from the bushes by my side.

"What?" he asked.

"Please use Psychic on them before any more damage is taken."

Lucario looked at me like I was crazy but the look in my eyes must have convinced him, because soon enough, both Pokémon were frozen in mid-air.

Both trainers turned and glared at me for interfering. I returned their glares with my own.

"Why did you do that, Luna?" Ash asked angrily.

"I'm sorry, but I had to. There's something really wrong with Pikachu."

Trip snickered and smirked as he called Snivy back to its Poké Ball, "Let's end this as a draw, but you know who would have won. I think you better start with the basics, Kanto boonie."

After Trip left, Lucario set Pikachu down, who fainted as soon as his paws touched the ground. Ash ran over to the fallen Pokémon and picked him up. Ash looked at Pikachu worriedly and held him close to his chest, running back to the laboratory. Lucario and I exchanged glances before following him.

Place: Professor Juniper's Laboratory, Nuvema Town, Unova Region

"So something isn't right with Pikachu after all?" Ash asked worriedly as he looked at Professor Juniper examining the graphs on her screen.

"It appears that Pikachu is suffering from an electrical overcharge of some kind," she stated.

"Overload?"

Juniper turned away from the screen to face Ash. "Remember when that blue lightning stuck you? All the electrical energy Pikachu absorbed from the thunderstorm was too much."

Big brother Lucario and I were standing near the door of a testing room, where Pikachu was hooked up to several electrodes on a table. The Professors were gathered around a giant screen showing Pikachu and his condition. Ash and his mother were behind them, waiting for the results.

"What do you think is going to happen?" Lucario asked as he leaned against the wall. Professor Juniper told me mama went back home after I left the lab, so it was just big brother Lucario and me.

"Don't know. But they need to get all the electrical energy out of Pikachu in order for him to use electric type moves again."

"But how?"

"Don't know..."

"No way! You mean that Pikachu can't use electric-type moves anymore?!" Ash glanced at his friend that was on the lab table with deep concern.

"It was a good thing Luna stopped the battle or else Pikachu could have gotten worse." Professor Oak nodded towards me as thanks, and I nodded back.

Suddenly, the screen blurred into static as a chill went down my spine. Sparks began to envelop Pikachu, who couldn't hold back the energy that was forcing its way out.

"Look outside, it's the same as before!" Professor Juniper remarked.

My eyes widened. Oh no, it was Zekrom again. What did he want? Then it dawned on me… Thunder Pokémon… Pikachu and the lighting… it all came together.

Lightning struck the lab, causing a power outage, and Juniper quickly sprang into action. "Hurry, get the system back on!" The lab assistant complied, forcing the automatic doors open and running outside.

"It can't be…" Juniper muttered to herself. "Is that the legendary Pokémon, Zekrom?"

"Huh?"

"It is, Professor Juniper," I confirmed. They turned their attention to me. "It is Zekrom."

"Zekrom?" Ash asked.

"Zekrom is quite a legend in these parts. From within its thunder clouds, it watches over people and Pokémon. And its lightning bolts are said to be judgments from up above as well as the pillars that hold up the sky." Professor Juniper explained as she stared at the circling clouds outside the window.

Pikachu suddenly let out a huge burst of electricity, its sparks spreading everywhere around the room. Ash suddenly embraced Pikachu, getting afflicted by the surge of electricity.

"Ash! Are you insane?!" I shouted as I ran towards him to get away from Pikachu. But everything suddenly stopped, and Ash collapsed on the floor.

It turns out that Pikachu recovered and was able to use his moves again. That was a relief.

-Later-

I sent Lucario back to mama after the whole Zekrom incident. I was now starting my journey but couldn't help worrying about Pikachu and Ash, even though they reassured me that I didn't have to.

Why me? Why is this happening to me?

I had yet to meet my starter Pokémon that Professor Juniper warned me about. But why did I have to take caution? Just because it was troublesome? I looked at the red and white Poké Ball Snivy was in. I wonder what I should do...

"Hey Snivy, come on out," I called out my to-be-partner to introduce myself.

"And here I am," he announced as soon as he materialized from the Poké Ball.

I smiled and bent down on my knees. "Hi, I'm Luna. I'm going to be your Pokémon trainer."

"And...?"

I blinked in confusion, replying, "… and what?"

He scoffed at me, crossing his arms. "What am I supposed to say? 'Hi, let's be friends'? And maybe afterwards, we can go merrily jump around in a field of flowers together."

WOW. That I did not expect. "Well, too bad, you are my Pokémon and my new friend now."

"Give me one good reason why." He went back into his pokeball by himself, I blinked. What the hell just happened here?

Place: Forest, Nuvema Town, Unova Region

-2 Days Later-

I was wandering in the forest for 2 days now, and I was positive I was lost. I could feel myself itching to pull my hair out. I groaned and continued to walk aimlessly. I knew I was going to get to human civilization any day now. I hope.

I decided to rest under a tree for a bit, still trying to figure out how to talk to Snivy. Then I heard a male voice from above me."Hey look. There's a human wandering around here. What should we do?"

"Yeah, I wonder what she's going to do," replied a female voice. I looked up to see 2 leaf-like Pokémon hanging upside down, so I took out my Pokédex and aimed it at them.

Sewaddle, the Sewing Pokémon. Sewaddle hides from its enemies by covering its head with a hood made from a leaf and are known to eat its leafy clothing when food is scarce.

I looked back at the Sewaddle, who were now staring down at me as I stared back at them. We all blinked simultaneously, staring at each other for what seemed like hours. I covered my ears when both let out a high-pitched scream. Ow...

"Run away! Run away!" the male Sewaddle screeched.

"The trainer is going to capture us. I don't want to be a pet!" the female exclaimed at the end. Both of them kept on screeching over and over. I felt my eyebrow twitch.

"Will you both shut up and calm down for a minute?!" I yelled over the two as both of them froze. "Thank you! Jeez…"

"How can she understand us?" the male Sewaddle whispered to the other.

"Could she be a Pokémon?"the female Sewaddle whispered back.

"I don't know, she looks strange for a Pokémon."

"Could she be human?"

"Humans can't understand us, so how could she?"

"Uh... you know, I can hear you both down here, and by the way, I am human," I interrupted flatly, my arms crossed while I tapped my right foot. Both of them jolted in shock as I raised an eyebrow. Then a good idea came to mind. "Hey you, male Sewaddle."

"M-me?"He stuttered, starting to shake like a leaf.

"Yes, you!"

"Wh-what do you wa-want with me, hu-human?"

"Do you know the way around this forest?"

"Yes, yes I do," he answered confidently.

"Could you show me the way out of here? I need to go to Striaton City."

"Why?" the female wondered as she tilted her head to the side.

"Well, you see... I'm kind of lost... in here..." I lowered my head to hide my embarrassment.

The Sewaddles looked at each other before bursting into small laughter. The male Sewaddle turned to me kindly. "If that's all, then we can show you!"

I looked up at him with hope sparkling in my eyes. "Really?"

"Of course! Just follow us, and we'll show you to Striaton City."

With that, the Sewaddles guided me out of the forest just as the sun was about to set. The sky was a beautiful gradient of orange, pink, yellow and dark blue. I turned back to the Sewaddles and thanked them as they swung away back into the forest. I gazed at the city and took a deep breath. To think, my first gym battle ever was going to be tomorrow! I found a hotel and paid for a single room. When I entered my room, I flopped on the bed and fell asleep once my head hit the pillows. That night, I dreamnt of what my first gym battle will be like and the new Pokémon I will see.
