Chapter 3- In the Gryffindor Boys' Dorm
The first year Gryffindor boys walked up to their dorm and looked around it. There were five four-poster beds with red sheets, each with someone's belongings at the end of it. Remus walked over to the one with an old leather trunk covered with scuff marks and sat down on it.
"I guess they chose our beds for us." Sirius said, going over to the one with his trunk and sitting down.
"Good guess." Remus commented, and Sirius stuck his tongue out at him.
"So, what are you guys looking forward to?" Frank asked them. James grinned wildly.
"Pranks, pranks, pranks, quidditch and pranks!" he exclaimed, and Sirius fist-bumped him.
"How mature." Remus sarcastically noted. "I'm looking forward to History of Magic and Transfiguration." At that, Sirius yawned loudly.
"I'm actually looking forward to Transfiguration," James said. "My sister's top of her year for it, and she loves it. I like loads of the same stuff as her, so I'll probably like it."
"If you don't, I'll kill you. So no pressure." A voice came from the door. The boys turned to the sound and saw Hazel and two of her friends, a tall blonde girl and the small dark-haired girl Hazel had been sitting next to in the Great Hall.
"What are you doing in here?" James asked, and Hazel smirked.
"I came to see how you were getting on. I needed to make sure you make friends with the other boys, because Mum said I have to let you hang out with me until you have your own friends, and I don't really want you following me everywhere." she said, before patting her brother on the head. James batted her hand away as he blushed. Hazel grinned.
"Shove off, Haze." James said, clearly embarrassed by his sister. Hazel shook her head.
"You need a bestie so you can hang around with someone other than me." she said. Sirius jumped across onto James's bed.
"He has a bestie already." he said, smiling sweetly at Hazel. Hazel clapped her hands happily.
"Yay!" she exclaimed. "See you, James!" With that, she turned and left the room, her friends following closely behind. The moment the girls were out of the door, all of the boys (except James) began laughing. James glared at them.
"Shut up!" he ordered, and they did, though Sirius continued to smirk.
"Okay… This is a little awkward… We're going to be sharing a dorm for the next seven years, so we may as well get to know each other." Frank suggested, and the other boys nodded in agreement.
"Shall we write questions on bits of parchment and randomly choose one? Also, you have to put who the question's for." Sirius suggested, and the others agreed to do it: it was, after all, a good idea.
Frank pulled some parchment out of his trunk, and the boys tore it into smaller pieces. They spent a few minutes writing questions for each other, before sitting in a circle on the floor and putting the questions in the centre. Frank pulled one out of the pile and read it out.
"Question for Peter: Do you like cheese puffs?" Remus raised his eyebrows, and James turned to look at Sirius.
"I've never tried cheese puffs, but I don't really like cheese." Peter told them, and Sirius gasped.
"You don't like cheese‽" he asked incredulously, eyes wide in shock.
"You wrote that question, didn't you?" Frank guessed, and James clapped slowly and sarcastically at him. He was about to say something, but Remus interrupted.
"Let's do the next question." he said, and lifted another piece of parchment. "James: Is… Oh, I can't ask this." Everyone turned to Remus, desperate to hear the question. Peter pulled the parchment out of Remus's hand. He read the question and giggled.
"Is Hazel single?" he read, and Frank burst out laughing. James looked horrified. He choked on air before answering.
"I- I don't actually know. She's really close with two of the boys in the year above her, and I think she might be with one of them." Sirius pouted, and James hit him. "That was you! You're so weird!"
"Okay… Who's going to read the next one?" Peter asked, and James grabbed a question.
"Remus: Have you ever had a near death experience?" he asked, and Remus paled.
"N-no, n-never. Apart from almost drowning in the lake, but you guys already knew that." he answered, and Frank raised his eyebrows.
"You're lying." he commented, and everyone turned to Remus, waiting for the truth. He sighed.
"I don't want to talk about it." he said sharply, and the other boys decided it would be best to leave him alone. Frank chose another question.
"Sirius: How many people are in your family and what are they like?" he asked, and Sirius narrowed his eyes, suddenly looking angry.
"My stupid, horrible, evil parents are pure-blood supremists. So are my aunt and uncle and two of my cousins, Bellatrix and Narcissa. My brother Regulus is nine, and he followed me everywhere when we were kids. My other cousins, Andromeda and Cassiopeia, are okay. Andromeda's in the fifth year and she's dating a Muggleborn Hufflepuff. Cassie's in our year. Bellatrix's in her last year, and she's a prefect. Narcissa's in the third year and she's really popular. I can't stand her: she thinks she's so much better than everyone else just because she's got perfect blonde curls and flawless skin." As he spoke about his family, Sirius had a bitter expression and tone of voice that showed he wasn't on the best terms with his family.
"Is Cassie single?" James asked, obviously trying to get back at Sirius for his earlier question about Hazel. Sirius stuck his tongue out at him. The two began gently punching each other.
"I hate to interrupt a budding bromance, but some of us haven't actually been asked anything yet." Frank loudly complained, and the two stopped. Sirius picked a question and smiled.
"This one's supposed to be for Peter, but we are all going to answer it." he said, and everyone became curious. "Do you play Quidditch and, if yes, which position?"
"I'm a Chaser!" James exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
"Beater!" Sirius cheered, getting up and doing a 'victory lap' or the dorm, climbing over beds as he did so.
"I don't play Quidditch! Yay!" Frank exclaimed, and Peter giggled.
"Neither do I." he said, and everyone turned to Remus to hear his opinion, only to see him lost in thought, with a brooding expression on his face that made him look much older. James slid across to sit by him.
"You okay?" he asked, placing his hand on Remus's shoulder. Remus glanced towards him, and smiled slightly.
"Yeah, fine." he said quietly. "I'm tired, do you guys mind if I go to bed?"
"It's getting late; we should probably all get some sleep. Lessons start tomorrow." Frank said, and the boys changed in silence and took turns in the bathroom. They all fell asleep almost as soon as their heads touched the pillows, except for Remus. He laid awake, worrying about lessons and whether or not the other boys would accept him.
A/N: Hello! I'm back! Sorry it took me so long to update, I've been really busy with school (I forgot to revise for a test because I was writing, and I got less than 50%). I should be updating again soon. Also, this fic will be slightly AU, as it will have modern music and video games. But, I won't have made it completely modern technology-wise: they will still be using Walkmans!
Also, I would like to know if you guys would read a 'Christmas in the Slytherin Common Room' one shot. I wrote it for an English assessment last year, and I came top of the class. It's set in the Golden Trio's third year.
