Summary: John Hart attempts to contact Jack and ends up meeting with the wrong Harkness.

Episode 4 – John Hart
November 17, 2008, early morning, Tegan feels something nudging at his shoulder and saying, 'Tegan! Come on, Tegan, turn the damn alert off! I was trying to sleep'! Tegan rolls over onto his back and asks, 'What are you talking about'? The Doctor said, 'That damn wrist strap has been going off for the last half hour'! Tegan raises his right arm only to notice there's nothing on it, looked in the floor, and the Doctor said, 'Try the stand'. Tegan looked at the bedside stand and then back at the Doctor and asked, 'How do you do that'? The Doctor said, 'Because even if that isn't quite where it ends up when you take it off, the T.A.R.D.I.S. makes sure it ends up there by the time you wake up so it never gets lost'. Tegan raises his left hand, gently places his left hand on the Doctor's right cheek, and said, 'You are so much fun to play with'. The Doctor said hesitantly, 'You listen to Jack to much'. Tegan said, 'Well, he's my papa, I'm sure I picked up several things I probably shouldn't have'. The Doctor said, 'Including how to be a downright tease'! Tegan asked jokingly, 'Aw, Doctor, you didn't really think once you finally told me what that thing in your mouth was for that I wouldn't, now did you'? As the wrist strap started making a beeping sound, the Doctor said, 'I think Jack taught you a little too much'!
Tegan picked up the wrist strap with his left hand, hit the button to see the holo-message, and thought, 'I could've sworn I'd deactivated that because honestly, it creeps me out! Of course, I fucked up the text messages in the process, never did figure out how to fix that, one of those nice things the Master fixed. I really hope he didn't reactivate this and that's just a glitch or else he'll be unfixing it'!
Tegan wasn't surprised to see a hologram of a man standing there but it was surprising that he didn't recognize the man. The man said, 'Jack, it's John. Yes, I still go by John Hart. I know it's been a long time, but I need your help. I know, I know, you probably don't want to help seeing as you're the leader of Torchwood Three now, but if you do I can make it worth your while, I know where Gray is. If you do decide to help, you should know where to find me, I'm here in Cardiff'. The hologram disappeared and the Doctor asked, 'How long have you had the wrist strap'? Tegan said, 'Around ten years. As far as I know, the only people capable of sending a holo-message to this thing are other people with wrist straps'. The Doctor asked curiously, 'Another Time Agent'? Tegan said, 'Probably'. The Doctor asked, 'You're not going to tell Jack about this are you'? Tegan said, 'In a matter of speaking I will'. The Doctor asked, 'But, he's not going to be the one meeting John Hart, is he'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'No'. The Doctor said, 'Tegan, that's a very bad idea. You don't know the first thing about this John bloke! Time Agent's can be extremely dangerous even to a Time Lord'! Tegan smiled and said, 'I'll be fine'.
After Tegan had taken a shower and changed into clean clothes, the Doctor asked, 'Do you want me to go with you'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'As much as I'd appreciate the back-up, that would not be a good idea, and you know why'. The Doctor lowered his head and said, 'Yeah, dumb idea'.
Tegan left the T.A.R.D.I.S. and Jack said, 'Good morning'. Tegan smiled and said, 'Morning, papa. You seem to be glowing this morning'. Jack laughed and said, 'You'd be surprised at how much fun it can be just to watch -' Tegan interrupted and said, 'Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you were jerking yourself off while watching Harry and Ianto'. Jack laughed again and asked, 'So, what's got you out here this morning? You decide you want to help with my paperwork again'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'No, I was just checking some old data that's apparently still on the wrist strap, and I was wondering who John Hart is'. Jack said, 'We were both Time Agent's. He was also my husband for a period of time'. Tegan asked, 'And, what types of places did he like to go'? Jack said, 'Same as me but he also thrived on danger, there were times when I did too though'.
Tegan thought for a minute, he could think of one bar in Cardiff that since he could remember catered to what was essentially the worst humanity had to offer and even the occasional stray alien, sounds about right for a 51st century Time Agent.
Jack didn't think to ask until after Tosh came into his office and asked, 'Where's Tegan going'? Jack said, 'I don't know. He might be my son but he's also twenty-four, I think it's safe to say he can take care of himself'. Tosh said, 'Yes, but Tom was in the garage cleaning out the SUV, some bet he lost with Ianto apparently, and Tegan told him to finish later, and then he took off in the SUV'.
The pieces quickly feel into place for Jack. Why had Tegan suddenly got curious about John Hart? Why had Tegan asked the type of place John would like'? Jack stood up suddenly and said, 'John's here in Cardiff! He must have left a holo-message not knowing that I don't have the wrist strap anymore! Fuck! Tosh get the team together and make sure they're ready to leave with I get back! We're going after Tegan'! Tosh didn't even have a chance to respond before Jack was running into the T.A.R.D.I.S.
Jack stopped in the console room and shouted, 'Doctor, where the hell are you'? It took a minute before the Doctor stepped out into the console room and asked, 'What is it, Jack'? Jack said, 'I'm going to ask you something and I need you to be honest with me'. The Doctor asked, 'Did Tegan get a message from John Hart thinking he was contacting you? Yes'. Jack asked, 'Did he say why'? The Doctor said, 'He said he knows where Gray is'. Jack asked in disbelief, 'My brother's alive'? The Doctor shrugged and said, 'I would assume that he wouldn't have called just to give you the location of a corpse. I don't know, maybe he would have'. Jack shook his head and said, 'No. John's an ass but I don't think he'd go that far. But, I need to go, if Tegan shows up there, John could - he's dangerous'!
The Doctor thought for a minute before saying, 'If you want, the T.A.R.D.I.S. could make the trip faster then a 21st century vehicle could'. Jack nodded and said, 'Thanks, I'll get the rest of the team'.
Jack walked out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. and the Doctor thought, 'I really hope this is the right decision'.
It was a few minutes before Jack, Ianto, Tosh, Owen, and Gwen stepped into the T.A.R.D.I.S., the door locked behind Gwen and Jack asked angrily, 'What the hell did you do'? The Doctor said, 'Simple, the T.A.R.D.I.S. is now locked, nobody is getting in or out until I decide otherwise. And, before you think about calling the Master to force the issue, the T.A.R.D.I.S. is also blocking your cell phone signals'. Jack asked angrily, 'Why are you doing this? Tegan doesn't even know the kind of danger he's walking into'! The Doctor smirked and then said, 'I trust him, you obviously don't'. Jack said angrily, 'Of course I fucking trust him but he's going in there blind which is something you should be all to familiar with, Doctor'! The Doctor turned and left the console room. Ianto said sarcastically, 'Nice, Jack'.
The Doctor walked into the library and thought, 'Please don't let this be a mistake'.
The Doctor knew how Tegan's wrist strap worked. It worked just like a Time Agent one just with a few extra additions. Tegan had removed the EMP generator they'd added and the Doctor had improved at some point since the Master had become Minister of Defence to add a back-up drive. And, even though Tegan still on occasion carried his laser gun or during some dangerous Torchwood missions opted for the larger and more power laser rifle, he'd opted to start carrying what the Master had called a sonic-laser screwdriver.
Between the Master and T.A.R.D.I.S., they'd designed a combination of the Doctor's sonic screwdriver and the Master's laser screwdriver and made sure it had an isomorphic lock. The isomorphic lock was preset to only be useable by either Tegan, the Doctor, the Master, Jack, Ianto, Tosh, Owen, or Gwen. By what Tegan said it was black but what the Doctor noticed about the design is that it was smooth, six inches in length, and since apparently the T.A.R.D.I.S. and the Master were in a joking mood when it was made, it has interchangeable heads similar to how an older version of the Doctor's own sonic screwdriver had, Tegan's was more advanced then what his sonic screwdriver had been though. He wondered if Tegan actually remembered which head did what or if Tegan was still working on memorizing them. All the Doctor knew about the interchangeable heads was that the clear pointed tip was what gave it the same laser functions as the Master's laser screwdriver. The clear tip apparently was supposed to glow red right before screwdriver fired a laser shot but he didn't actually know if it did or not. The Master had even explained to Tegan that if he ever came up with more functions to just let the T.A.R.D.I.S. know and she could develop a new head for it.
Tegan didn't like driving the Torchwood SUV, he didn't like driving any type of vehicle, he'd even gotten over his desire to ride his motorcycle. What he wanted was to be able to fly again, something he hadn't been able to do beyond being able to keeping his license up-to-date since he'd met the Doctor! He still held a private pilots license, could still fly land-based single and multi engine airplanes as well as helicopters, with both an instrument rating and night rating, and type ratings he really didn't want to be rattling off. Even though in hindsight, the reason he'd wanted to be a pilot was because he wanted to join the RAF not Torchwood, but being a Time Lord had put a damper on that. He was glad UNIT liked him enough so he could have them do his medical exam and not someone who would question his Time Lord biology. He still liked flying though, even if he never did think he'd get to fly a V-22 Osprey. Even though there is a running joke with the rest of the Torchwood team, not including the Doctor, that if Tegan ever had a co-pilot that he'd be a Captain like Jack. Tegan's response always being the same, 'I wanted to be a Wing Commander, dammit'!
Tegan stopped the SUV and thought, 'Just remember Tegan, you are a Time Lord, you are second-in-command of Torchwood Three, and you are a Harkness'! Tegan leaned his head on the steering wheel and thought, 'And, if you have any reservations, channel your inner Jack'!
Tegan had just opened the driver's door of the SUV when his wrist strap started beeping, he hit the button to answer the call, and before he even had a chance to say anything, he heard Jack say, 'The Doctor let me make a call to give you a warning about John since we all know that's where you're going. Okay, not a warning so much as the three rules. Rule one, never trust anything he says! Two, always keep him in front of you! Three, never let him kiss you'! Before Tegan had a chance to respond, the line went dead and he thought, 'Never trust anything he says? Did he lie about Gray? Fuck'!
Tegan hesitated for only a few moments before getting out of the SUV, making sure it was safely locked, and walking into the bar. He had to know for sure!
Tegan walked over to where John was seated at the bar and asked, 'John Hart'? John turned on the stool and asked, 'And, who might you be'? Tegan raised his right wrist up to the right side of his face and said, 'You sent a message, except you made a mistake, I'm not Jack'. John said, 'Then, you should know that -' Tegan interrupted by asking, 'Do you know where Gray Thane is or not'? John looked surprised for a split second before asking, 'How do you know his last name'? Tegan said, 'Gray Thane is my uncle, do the math'. John asked, 'Jack's your father'? Tegan decided not to nick pick and said, 'Yes'. John asked, 'Why didn't you give the message to him'? Tegan asked, 'You're a Time Agent'? John said, 'The Time Agency is gone, there are no Agent's anymore'. Tegan was surprised but considering Jack's first rule concerning John decided to ignore that for the time being. Tegan asked, 'You were a Time Agent'? John said, 'Yes'. Tegan said, 'I don't want papa associating with Time Agent's, former or otherwise'. John said, 'My message was not for you'. Tegan shrugged and said, 'Tough! If you want help, in exchange for the information, it's either me or nothing! And before you criticize me, remember, papa trained me'! John looked Tegan up and down before asking, 'And, how old are you'? Tegan said, 'Twenty-four. I know, I'm small. And overall, I am young, but papa's trained me in some ways since I was old enough to understand the meaning of the word'. John asked, 'And, you really think you can help me all on your own'? Tegan said, 'That depends on what you need help with'. John glanced at the door, Tegan rolled his eyes, and said, 'Fine, we can talk in the SUV, after you'.
Tegan followed John out of the bar and then said, 'Go on'.
John got into the front passenger's seat of the SUV and Tegan in the driver's seat. Tegan looked at John and asked, 'So, what do you need help with'? John said, 'It's a diamond'. Tegan asked, 'So, you're a thief'? John said, 'You make it sound like I'm a horrible person'. Tegan said, 'Sorry pal, but Torchwood or not, I'm not helping you commit a heist'! John said, 'Well, it's not like the woman it belonged to will have any use for it'. Tegan asked, 'You killed her'? John said, 'She wouldn't tell me where it was besides that it was in Cardiff in this time period'. Tegan asked sarcastically, 'So, I'm supposed to be able to help you find one tiny diamond in this city, and you don't have a damn clue where it is'? John said, 'Jack would'. Tegan said angrily, 'Papa is a twpsyn'! John asked, 'Twpsyn'? Tegan said, 'Idiot! Twpsyn is Welsh for idiot'! John said, 'And actually, it's not simply one diamond, it's four devices you have to put together before you can unlock the central device. I already have the central device'. Tegan asked, 'So, you already have the diamond, you just need help finding the keys to the device that holds it'? John said, 'Exactly'. Tegan asked, 'Any idea what these keys look like'? John said, 'They're cylindrical, I don't know the color, but if what she said was true, they should put off a signal similar to the central device'. Tegan asked, 'Can I see the central device? I might be able to track the signal'. John asked, 'If I can't do it, what chance do you have'? Tegan asked, 'Why did you want help from papa if you weren't going to allow anyone to help'?
John hesitated for a minute before showing Tegan a cube. Tegan thought it was interesting because it was five inches high, wide, and in depth. There was one circular indentation at each corner of the cube with what looked like either a dull blue light or button in the center of the top of the cube. Tegan said, 'Alright, if I'm going to be helping you, you keep the device, I'll carry the keys until we get all four, then you give me the information about Gray Thane, and the keys are yours. Does that sound fair'? John said, 'Fair enough'. Tegan took his sonic-laser screwdriver out of his back left jeans pocket and John asked, 'What is that'? Tegan said, 'It's a sonic-laser screwdriver. We don't need that setting though or else it'll probably destroy the cube and what's inside'! John asked, 'Can I see it'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'Not a chance in hell am I letting you hold it'! John laughed and said, 'Worth a shot'.
Tegan reached into his back right jeans pocket, took out a handful of different heads, and John asked, 'How do you fit all that into your pockets'? Tegan said, 'Time Lord technology, bigger on the inside'. John said, 'Time Lord's aren't -' Tegan interrupted and said, 'I am a Time Lord, dumbass! So yes, they are quite real'. Tegan picked out a flat head in the shape of a star before putting the others back in his pocket, he then took the clear tip off, put it into his pocket, put the star-shaped head onto it, and said, 'Now, let's see if this thing can pick up a signal. If it can, it should be able to send it to my wrist strap or at least, that's what it's supposed to do'.
John watched as Tegan moved the sonic-laser screwdriver over the cube in several different directions before Tegan's wrist strap began to beep, Tegan put the sonic-laser screwdriver back in his pocket, hit the button on his wrist strap to pull up a holographic map, and said, 'Okay, the nearest location is in the countryside, should be interesting'.
While on their way to the first location, John was trying to figure out how to get his hands on both Tegan's wrist strap which he was quickly able to figure out was superior to his own and also Tegan's sonic-laser screwdriver. Tegan shook his head and said, 'John, I'm telepathic, you've had the telepathic training of a Time Agent, but you're broadcasting loud enough to where I wouldn't need to be much of a telepath at all to know what you're planning. Before you give yourself a headache trying to figure out how to steal my wrist strap and screwdriver, they're both on isomorphic locks, which means even if you stole them, they'd be useless to you'! John crossed his arms and Tegan laughed.
After arriving in the countryside, Tegan was able to quickly locate the first device, but the problem came from an electrical shield that prevented it from being touched. Tegan looked at John and asked, 'So, any ideas'? John asked, 'Doesn't Torchwood have anything that could cancel out the shield'? Tegan smirked and said, 'In a matter of speaking, back at the Hub, but I think I may have another idea'. Tegan took his sonic-laser screwdriver out of his pocket again, jabbed it at the shield, and besides getting knocked on his ass from the shock said, 'Problem solved'. John whispered, 'I don't think I would've done that'. Tegan put his screwdriver back in his pocket, picked the device up, stood up, and said, 'Time Lord's can handle a little electric shock better then humans even if they are from the 51st century like papa'. John asked, 'You can tell'? Tegan said, 'Pheromones. They're a little different then papa's but they're still similar enough to be from the 51st century'. Tegan looked at his wrist strap and asked, 'What the fuck'? John asked, 'Did the shock damage it'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'No. But, the next location is shown to be in the Thames'! John laughed and then asked, 'Time Lord's don't have gills do they'? Tegan said, 'No, we have a respiratory bypass system but that still wouldn't help if it was too deep due to the pressure. If it wasn't for the fact that papa would probably throw a fit if he found out just what I was doing, I could go back, and see about borrowing the T.A.R.D.I.S.' John asked, 'T.A.R.D.I.S.'? Tegan said, 'Time and Relative Dimension in Space, it's the Doctor's sentient time ship, and she can be a moody girl, so stealing her wouldn't be wise'. Tegan wasn't about to mention that the Doctor was onboard the T.A.R.D.I.S. so stealing her wouldn't even be possible.
Tegan drove to the nearest land to where the location on the Thames was on the wrist strap and said, 'That's odd, it is underwater, but it's not settled at the bottom. We need a boat'! John asked, 'We'? Tegan asked sarcastically, 'Would you prefer swimming'? John shook his head and Tegan said, 'Well then, let's find a boat'.
Tegan found the nearest place that would allow for them to rent a boat, it was closed at the moment, and Tegan said, 'Well, this was a dumb idea'! John asked, 'Why not just steal one'? Tegan huffed, lowered his head, and asked, 'Sure, why not'?
Tegan let John operate the speedboat, as Tegan said, 'I can drive cars, trucks, SUVs, and motorcycles, and I even have a pilots license, but water-based vehicles is where my knowledge hits a wall'. John asked, 'What about a seaplane'? Tegan shook his head and said, 'I have enough on my license to keep up-to-date, I'm not going to bother with something that I probably wouldn't need unless I was in the Royal Navy or water rescue! And I've never hid the fact from the people who know about what I am, if it hadn't been for my Time Lord biology, I would've joined the RAF not Torchwood'. John asked, 'If you're a pilot, then you're a Captain like Jack and myself'? Tegan asked, 'How the hell did you get to be a Captain'? John said, 'Jack and I were both Captain's during our time in the Time Agency, that's not why we carry the title though'. Tegan rolled his eyes and said, 'I know, papa stole the name and title from an officer who had long since died in combat. Is that how you got yours'? Tegan was happy that at least for the moment that John was quiet. Even with Jack's first rule about John, he sure could talk!
John stopped the boat when Tegan told him that they were at the location. Tegan asked, 'So, who's going swimming'? John said, 'You're the one with the respiratory bypass system'. Tegan took his fedora, greatcoat, and boots off, and then dove into the water.
John considered for a few moments about leaving Tegan and hunting for the remaining devices on his own but since Tegan was going after the second one as he was thinking that, he knew it would be futile. He couldn't risk Tegan coming after him with one of the devices he needed. He wanted the diamond and if that meant putting up with Tegan for a little while longer then so be it.
John wasn't surprised when almost four minutes passed before Tegan surfaced with the second device and said, 'Two down, two to go'!
Once Tegan was back on the boat, he said, 'This was not my brightest idea! I don't have a change of clothes in the SUV and I'm wet, very fucking wet'!
John drove the boat back to shore and had somehow been relegated to carrying Tegan's fedora, greatcoat, and boots. Tegan left a note for the owner of the boat apologizing for borrowing it and hoping the money he left was enough for the short trip.
Back in the SUV, Tegan checked his wrist strap and said, 'I think the map function is fucked up! It wants us to go back to the damn countryside'! John laughed and said, 'Well, at least it's keeping us around the Cardiff area'.
Once back at the countryside, Tegan found the general location, but said, 'Aw ha! So, it's about eight feet underground. Well, John, I found the first two. You feel like digging'? John asked, 'Do you have a shovel'? Tegan shrugged and said, 'I have no idea, there's probably something in the SUV useful for digging'. Tegan walked around to the back of the SUV and found a shovel and a pickaxe, Tegan shouted, 'Shovel or pickaxe'? John said, 'You don't have to shout'. Hearing the voice come from right behind him caused Tegan to jump and spin around. John said, 'I'll take the shovel, if there's anything I can't get through, you can use the pickaxe'.
It took almost ninety minutes to get to the depth of the third device, Tegan took the device from John, and said, 'Only one more to go'. John who had the shovel swung over his right shoulder asked, 'So, where to now'? Tegan looked at his wrist strap and said, 'I thought you said all four devices were in Cardiff'. John said, 'That's what I was told'. Tegan said, 'Then she lied'. John asked, 'What do you mean'? Tegan said, 'The last device isn't anywhere near Cardiff. Hell, the last device isn't even in Wales'! John asked concerned, 'Then, where is it'? Tegan said, 'The Saxon Estate'! John asked, 'Where's that'? Tegan said, 'London'. John said, 'Well then, we better be going'.
Tegan and John got back in the SUV and on the way to London, Tegan wondered if maybe he should have called the Master to figure out why there was a piece of the device at his home. Tegan wasn't going to let John know though that he knew the person who owned the Saxon Estate, that the same person was also the last of the three remaining Time Lord's, and that the same person was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He knew he'd be in danger once they got the final device and so being close to the Master would probably be one of the safest places he could be. In fact, John would be in more danger at the Saxon Estate then he would. One way or another though, by the time this was all said and done, Tegan would have the information on Gray as long as John had it.
It took a little longer then normal to get to the Saxon Estate from Cardiff but once there, Tegan walked up to the front door, and John asked, 'What the hell are you doing'? Tegan said, 'Shut up and trust me if you want the last piece'! Tegan rang the doorbell using the index finger of his left hand.
One of the Master's maids answered the door, immediately smiled and said, 'Master Harkness'! Tegan laughed and asked, 'Hello to you to, is Harry home'? The maid shook her head and said, 'Unfortunately no, but you're more then welcome to stay and wait'. Tegan smiled, nodded, and said, 'Thank you. The bloke behind me is Captain John Hart, he's a friend of papa's, I'm helping him with something and it led us here of all places'.
It was almost midnight before the Master arrived home and asked surprised, 'Tegan? What are you doing here and who's the man with you'? Tegan said, 'His name is Captain John Hart, he's a friend of papa's. I'm helping him find the final piece of something but if the map is accurate, the final piece is here'. Tegan showed the Master the other three devices, the Master smiled, and said, 'Aw, I know exactly what you're looking for. I'll be right back'.
The Master headed upstairs, into a room that Tegan couldn't remember what it was actually for, and Tegan decided to try to form a minor connection telepathically with the Master, the Master allowed the connection to complete, and Tegan asked, 'Why did you seem so happy'? The Master responded, 'John Hart is a fool! He's going to get a nasty surprise and it won't be what he wanted'! Tegan said, 'But, he said he knows where Jack's brother is, I need that information first'! The Master said, 'I thought Gray was dead'. Tegan said, 'So did I'. The Master asked, 'Do you believe him'? Tegan said, 'I don't know but if there's even a slight chance that Gray is alive, I had to take it'. The Master asked, 'Why isn't Jack involved'? Tegan said, 'I'm actually surprised he didn't try to intervene but if I understood what he said, I think the Doctor is keeping him and the rest of the team out of it'. The Master said, 'John Hart is a Time Agent, doing this yourself was taking a risk you shouldn't have. Even if you wanted to keep Torchwood Three out of it, you should have at least let me know'! Tegan said, 'You're the Prime Minister'!
The Master came back downstairs a few minutes later holding the final device, Tegan looked at John and said, 'Alright, the devices are yours as soon as you tell me where Gray is'! John said, 'I can't do that'. The Master asked, 'So you lied to Tegan'? John shook his head, looked at the Master, and said, 'No. I can't tell him because Gray isn't in this century. I would have to bring Gray here and Gray would only be interested in Jack, not Jack's son'.
The Master approached John, placed the index and middle fingers of both hands on John's temples and John asked, 'What are you doing'? It took only a few seconds before the Master stepped back, looked at Tegan, and said, 'He's telling the truth, it is Gray'. John asked, 'What did you do'? The Master whispered, 'I'm a touch telepath but I'm nowhere near as nice as Tegan'. Tegan handed John the three devices he had, the Master handed John the final device, John placed all four devices into the cube, the dull blue light turned bright blue and a small hologram of a woman appeared and said, 'John Hart, you killed me for nothing, you wanted a treasure and I gave it to you, but similar to how you lied to me, I lied to you. There is no diamond'. John snarled, the Master grabbed Tegan's right arm with his left hand, forced Tegan to stand and pulled him a few feet away from John. The woman continued, 'John, the device you're holding has bonded to your DNA and once this message ends, you'll have sixty seconds before it detonates'.
John said angrily, 'Lying bitch'!
Tegan looked at the Master and whispered, 'That can't happen or our link to Gray will be gone'! The Master said, 'Let me see your screwdriver'. Tegan handed his screwdriver over to the Master without so much as another word. The Master said, 'Heads'. Tegan took the interchangeable heads out of his pocket, the Master quickly took the current one off and switched it for one that looked more like a cats-eye marble, pointed the screwdriver at John and Tegan wasn't sure what to describe the sound that came from the screwdriver as but it closest he could get was when sound equipment went a little haywire.
It was a few seconds before the Master handed Tegan the screwdriver back, picked the device up, and asked, 'I'm guessing you probably don't want this'. John shook his head quickly and said, 'No'! The Master said, 'Alright then, Tegan will take it back to the T.A.R.D.I.S. and put it with the rest of the items that don't need to be in human hands. If you know what's good for you, you'll deliver on what you agreed, it's not Tegan's fault that the information you received was faulty'. John stood up and said, 'Fine but I can warn you now, Gray isn't like I am, he won't meet with Tegan, only Jack'. Tegan crossed his arms and said, 'I'm not worried'. John set coordinates on his wrist strap, shook his head, looked at Tegan, and said, 'Gray will kill you all'. John hit one last button and disappeared. Tegan and the Master looked at each other and Tegan said, 'There was no lie in what he just said'. The Master said, 'This is not going to end well, not if things don't change'. Tegan asked, 'What do you mean'? The Master whispered, 'Tosh and Owen will die and Jack will spend two thousand years buried under Cardiff and I don't mean in a coffin, suffocating over and over again! Ianto and Gwen's lives will be at risk too but they should survive'. Tegan asked, 'How do I prevent that from happening'? The Master asked, 'How much are you willing to risk'?
