" You what?" Kathryns was excited and beyond surprised at the same time, when her best friend; the mayor, told her that she finally invited the sheriff over for dinner. It was something she was trying to convince her friend to do for quite a long time; and now she finally did it.

" I invited her over for diner." Its a small step for human kind, but a humongous step for Regina. The mayor turned around in her beautiful white kitchen, from the counter to the oven and took out her apple turnover that she had made for desert after diner. She was trying not to over think this night, but she had to admit to herself that this was more then just a way to please Henry. This was a peace offering and possibly a way to get to know a certain blonde a little better; without files.

Kathryn took her tea cup in front of her and leaned back on her chair inhaling the delicious scent of the turnover that the mayor just sat down on the counter to cool off.

"First of: finally! Second: that smells delicious. And third: what got into you to finally do it?"

The mayor set down next to her friend, looking at the clock by the door, relaxing a little as she realized she has more then enough time to shower and order diner in, since its Friday and its a tradition she and Henry have had, to order in on the weekends. She thought back on one of the times the sheriff interrupted their dinner time, only to show up at their door with Henry hiding behind her back.

" Just setting down the plates, Henrys apple juice, and a glass of wine for me. God knows I need more then just one glass after the week I had; but one glass will do for now." Regina heard a knocking on the door and knew it wasn't the pizza boy, he usually rings the bell when he arrives. Plus she made her order only 10 minutes ago; it would be impossible for him to arrive that fast.

"Henry! Diner is almost here. Get yourself cleaned up before you come down." She walked to the front door; annoyance written all over her face as she opened it.

" Sheriff Swan? What do I owe this pleasant surprise to?" A blush crept up the other womans cheeks as she noticed that she was looking at the usually business-suety dressed up woman in a now casual jeans and white shirt outfit for to long.

"I think you lost something." She looked nervously at the brunette as a small figure moved from behind her back to her side; hiding his look on the ground.

"Hi mom." His voice was barely audible. Reginas face was nothing but a full surprise; but she went back to her mayoral state after a full minute of silence and sent Henry straight into his room.

"How did he...?" She didn't need a why he did it; why he ran out. She already knew the reason for it. She needed a HOW right not, so she can prevent it, if it happens next time.

"He climbed out of his window. I was patrolling around the neighborhood and I saw him climb out about half an hour ago." Her heart breaks into pieces every time Henry does something like this; run from her, think of her as evil. She couldn't bare it any longer, she was breaking, but she sure as hell won't show it in front of the woman he keeps running to.

"Thank you for bringing him back, again." She turned around as she heard a pleading voice behind her. But tears were starting to fall down her face and she wouldn't/couldn't show it now.

"Regina?" Her voice was soft; barely a whisper but Regina already closed the door behind her.

"Good night miss Swan." was all that was heard from the inside before Emma turned around and walked away, back to her patrolling duty.

Excited footsteps were heard walking back and forth above them and snapped Regina back to the present with her friend still waiting for an answer from her.

"Honestly? I can't do this Henrys "I hate my mom" thing much longer. I have been patient, I gave him everything he wants, and he still hates me. But he doesn't hate her. Her he loves. That's why I invited her for dinner; if that's a way to get to Henry, I will do it. I will be nice to the Swan. I will be patient at diner. I will do everything I have to, to get my son back."

"OK. Keep your "enemy" close to get your son back." Regina only nodded at her friends reference to miss Swan as the enemy; even thought she herself would have not used that description for her.

"Is that the only reason you invited her over for diner?" Reginas eyes went back and forth from her friend to the clock by the door. Kathryn knew her better then anyone else in town; and she knew there was more to this diner then Regina would say out loud. The mayor nervously stood up, already making an excuse in her mind for her fried to leave, but Kathryn only raised her eyebrow at her; knowing she will sit back down in a minute and open up.

A sign escaped the mayors mouth before she ran a nervous hand thru her brown hair.

"No. It's not the only reason I am inviting Emma over for diner." Kathrysn eyes slightly widened as she heard an unexpected word from the mayor.

"You are staring Kathryn. Doesn't suit you."

"You said Emma."

"That is her name."

"You never say Emma."

"Of course I say Emma." Usually I whisper it, so no one hears it. When I'm...

"No you don't."

"No I don't."

"You like her, don't you." She didn't ask it; couse she didn't need an answer to it. "I know she's your type Regina; wild, goofy, but sort of vulnerable. You had the same type since college."

"She is non of those things. And I do not have a type, thank you very much."

The blonde didn't wanna push the buttons to much on her friend so she stood up laughing, leaned over to her friend and kissed her cheek before she took her purse from the table.

"Deny it all you want Regina. You like her. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just live a little." She walked out of the kitchen, letting herself out. Leaving the mayor in her own thoughts.

I do like her. That was all that crossed Reginas mind before she ran up the stairs to take a shower and wait for the dinner to start.

This will be interesting.
