Chapter 4 ~ The Truth

Lucy's POV

Sitting on my chair with a mug in both hands, I nibbled on my coffee when I remembered what happened yesterday night. It was pure shock with all the thunder and lighting everywhere. I looked down on my desk and stared down. I sighed when I then remembered what happened this morning …

FLASH BACK – BREAKFAST AT HOME

Sitting on my desk, we both were eating breakfast. I cooked some eggs with bacon.

"Lucy? Hey Lucy why are you so afraid of thunder?" the pink haired male suddenly asked me and I swallowed hard.

"Natsu .." I looked up into his black orbs but neither I did know how to tell him the story nor if I was ready to tell him.

I think he noticed because he stopped eating and looked with his onyx eyes deeply in mine.

"Luce .. you know you can tell me. I'm not going to laugh at you or something" he said calm but serious and I shivered.

"Yeah" I smiled somehow and looked down. Natsu can be sometimes really cute when he's caring about someone. I knew I could tell him everything even if we don't know each other for so long time.

"Natsu I will tell you someday." I couldn't look into his eyes. But when I caught his gaze on me I saw how he was frowning. Maybe he thought that I'm not trusting him? Maybe he thinks that he's not the friend I would tell. But that's not true! I wanted to tell him but I can't – not yet.

FLASH BACK ENDING

I groaned in frustration and anger. I put my mug down on the desk and decided to tell him as soon as possible. Maybe today or this week, who knows? It was Saturday and Natsu went home to look for Happy. Distracted with thoughts and staring at the chair, Natsu was sitting on one hour ago, I didn't realize my phone was ringing. Looking onto the display I saw it was Gray.

"Morning Gray." I sighed frustrated.

"Morning Lucy. What's wrong, did something happen?" the raven haired male asked me curious and I heard his worried voice through the phone.

"Well nevermind I was just in thoughts" he sighed.

"Okay. By the way what did you do to Natsu? He's down and frowning all the time."

"Huh?" Natsu's frowning? But when he left he was acting normal.

"Yeah since today he acts weird. It's like when he lost a game on the PC. And now he's all frowning" he explained calmly.

I thought of a reason why Natsu would be sad. After some seconds I decided to tell Gray since he was one of my best friends. Plus they're best friends and maybe he could help me..

"Well you see- wait. Why do you think he's down and all because of me?"

"You see, he's stupid and I hate him sometimes but he's my best friend. And when you best friend is down you will notice. Plus he's around you all the time since you met each other that night. So why shouldn't it be because of you? I'm sure there happened something .." he murmured the last part already in thoughts.

Blushing slightly I stood up and put the mug from my hand onto the table. I stood up and walked to the window to look outside and watch how the sun shined. I took a deep breath.

"Well Gray you know yesterday the weather was all scary with the thunder and the lightning." "And?"

"Uh and you know I'm afraid of thunder" I waited for him to response.

"Yeah but nothing happened, right? Flame head was with you all the time."

"Yeah. But yesterday it happens that we were walking home and when I heard a thunder I run away and hid behind a tree until Natsu found me. Stupid I know .." I scratched my head awkwardly.

"Lucy. It's not your fault that you're afraid of thunder" he tried to calm me down.

"Yeah I know…" Remembering the story I continued

"And Gray you know he then brought me home to my apartment and when we woke up and were breakfasting-"

"W-Wait. Natsu slept in your apartment?" The male cut me off, shocked obviously.

"Yeah I was so afraid and didn't let him go home" I laughed it off and continued when Gray mumbled an "okay".

"And this morning while we ate breakfast he suddenly asked me why I'm so afraid of thunder .." I trailed off and looked down.

"Did you tell him?" Gray asked, obviously understanding the situation.

"I-I just couldn't tell him .. But I guess I will try today."
"He will understand. He's a idiot who looks like he doesn't care but trust me Lucy, he cares about you a lot." I could hear from his voice that he was grinning.

"Thank you, Gray." I smiled. It was good to told Gray.

"Well bye Lucy – and good luck! I feel like someone is watching me…" the raven haired male murmured through the device in his hands.

I giggled. "Good luck too Gray. You know Juvia is maybe near you"

"Thanks for warning"

"You're welcome, bye Gray!

"Bye" I pressed the red botton on my phone, hung up and throw it sofly onto my bed. I went back to the table and took my mug in both hands and drunk it until it was empty. I decided to go up to the kitchen for another mug full coffee when my phone rang again.

Great. Who is it now? Groaning I stomped back to my bed and picked the device up. My eyes went wide when I saw who was calling. It was him.

I laughed frustrated. What I'm supposed to do now? Acting normal? Ringing for the 4th time I finally pressed the green button on my touchscreen.

"H-Hey Natsu" I said nerviously, already searching for an answer of "Why don't you just tell me?"

My heands were already sweating from the cause of excitement and my heart was beating fast.

"Yo Luce. You want to come over at my house?" he asked suddenly and I swallowed.

"See Natsu I- what? Come with to your house?" I asked surprised and forgot everything I was just thinking of.

"Yeah would be nice if we could play video games together! I have Zelda, or Super Mario! You know them?" he asked excited and I couldn't help but smile while nodding.

"I know them" my heart fluttered when I heard his happy-grinning voice.

"Does that mean you come with me?"

"Uh yeah, I think so" there wasn't anything I planned today so, why not?

"Great!" he screamed happily. "I'll pick you up at your home, kay?"

"Yeah."

I grabbed my bag and washed up the plates which still were empty laying on the desk.

After 10 minutes he still wasn't here and I remember he told me once his house isn't that far away, so, what takes him so long? Standing into the hallway with boots on my feet and a coat over my shirt I put out my phone from my bag and dialed Natsu's number.

After it rang for the 3rd time he finally picked the call up.

"What is it Luce?" he asked hushed.

"Uh hi I was wondering when you would come. I'm still waiting and-"

"Oh yeah sorry, I'm there in 5 minutes!" he cut me off and hung up. I couldn't even finish or reply. I would complain later when he would be here.

Right after some minutes he finally arrived and the doorbell rang.

"I was waiting you know?" I scolded. "And you know it's not polite to cut someone off while speaking or just hanging up." I crossed my hands over my chest and looked away pouting.

"I-I'm sorry Lucy. Gray was with me and we said our goodbyes for today and you know, then we ended up fighting ..." he apologized and took two steps forwards.

"So Gray was with you the whole time?"

"Yeah." So that was the reason why Gray knew Natsu was frowning.

"Wait a second. Gray gave you my number?" The pink haired male nodded and I sighed not realizing the stranger was staring at me until I looked into his onyx eyes. We went outside and I locking the door behind us.

"Let's go" he said and I nodded and then he looked away but grabbed my wrist and headed into some direction. I blushed when I saw his hand on mine and how the male took me by the wrist. I now realized his pressure was soft. Maybe he was afraid of hurting me? The whole way to his house I looked down at our hands, flushing. It was quiet and neither he said something nor I did. I was just too distracted with my feelings to notice anything.

"There it is." He let go of me but didn't turned around. My eyes widen at the building in front of me. The house wasn't big but it was cute – like a cottage.

Only now I realized that there was no house or apartment in sight. Turning back I saw the city not far away. Maybe, just 200 meters? The door cracked open and I turned around to look back at Natsu who already opened the.

"Come in already" he said when I didn't move. It thought it wouldn't be polite to just walk into a strange house for the first time. Stepping inside I saw different doors and I started counting. There were 4 wooden doors – 5 if you count the entrance door. The hallway was beautiful. Every single thing – door, floor or ceiling – all consists of wood. The floor was oak wood while the rest was made of birch. Natsu took off his shoes and his jacket and I did equal.

He took my coat and said pointing towards some door"Second door right" and I stepped inside his living room. There was a big fireplace, a couch, even a plasma TV. I spotted a stereo too.

On the couch was laying something but I didn't know what it was. It was blue and all of sudden it moved. Yeah something blue, on the couch, moved!

"Kyaah!" I screamed and Natsu ran to my side.

"What? What is it?" he asked and stood in front of me protectively.

"O-On the couch! T-There moved something!" I pointed towards that blue thing that was laying there.

Nastu then turned around, looked between me and the blue thing before he started laughing.

"Wa-" I cut off by his laughter. Soon he stopped and I glared at him.

"What? Why are you laughing?" I spit out angrily.

"Y-You are afraid of H-Happy!" he half laughed.

Happy? Were did I hear-

"Wait. Happy, as in your cat Happy?" I asked and he went over to the couch and picked the blue thing – whatever it was – up.

Stepping closer I could see it was a cat. He opened his eyes tired. Probably he slept until now on the couch.
"Lucy this is my cat, Happy" the male smirked.

"Aye!" I blinked in confusion.

"KYAAAHHH! I-It talked. Y-Your cat talked!" I screamed and stepped back, Natsu following me.
"Don't! Stay away from me!" I ran away but Natsu kept following me.

"Just hold him. You will like him!"

"No way, I'm going to hold this in my hands!"

"You're really weird, Luce!"

"I am NOT!"

Soon I stopped to take a breath and Natsu cought me. The man still had his cat in his hands!

"Luce please. Just hold him for some seconds." Looking from the male to the cat.

"F-Fine. But just some seconds." I was about to grab Happy when he scatched the hand I wanted to hold him with. I stepped back and Happy sprung down from Natsu and run away.

"Stupid cat" I murmured while watching Happy run away.

"I'm sorry Luce. Happy never ever did that. I don't know why-"

"It's okay Natsu" I smiled not caring about the scratched hand.
"But your hand-" he continued.

"There's nothing but a little scratch – I'm fine, trust me."

"But it's my fault because I forced you to."

"Mr. Dragneel stop complaining and lets play games or whatever you've planned."

"Fine" the said male replied and ran back to the TV and started – what I've heard from the meldy – Super Mario.

"I hope you played car games because prepare yourself to loose. I will win this game!" I wasn't surprised that he smirked like a child that got a Lollipop.

"In your dreams" I laughed it off.

"Hah, what do you say now? I won."

"You were cheating!"

"No, I wasn't! You were just too lazy!"

"There's no way princess Peach could beat Mario!"

"It is!"

"Admit it already Lucy! You were totally cheating!"

"As if! I'm never cheating"

"Don't lie!"

"I'm not!"

"But you-"

We stopped fighting when my belly started to growl.

"You're hungry?" I nodded shyly.

"I'll make some toast with bacon and cheese. You can play Mario or something you want. But no cheating" he grinned.

"I wasn't!" I shouted but he was already on the way into the kitchen.

I got bored and stood up and was about to go to Natsu when I heard something. I stopped in my spot and saw Happy meowing.

"You're hungry too, are you?" I smiled. "Just wait I will get something for you."

I followed the scent of food and the noises I heard coming from the kitchen.

Beneath the entrance door was the kitchen.

"Natsu do you have something for Happy? I think he's hungry too." I entered the kitchen and looked up to the male who prepared food.

"Yeah behind me is a cupboard with Happy's food. Just take one and give him. His bowl is then to your left" he explained and continued when I was standing before the cupboard to take out a can with fish meat inside. There were only fish inside the can's.

I opened the can and picked up Happy's bowl which was blue – just like his fur was. I giggled.

"What's so funny?" Natsu suddenly asked.

"Oh, nothing" I grinned.

"Tch' woman" the male mumbled and I rolled my eyes.

Turning back to the toast we continued to prepare food. Natsu for the both of us and I prepared for Happy.

I finished giving Happy's food into his bowl but didn't know how to shout for him before I got an idea..

Taking out a spun I knocked it against the empty can of Happy's food. It made a loud iron sound and immediately Happy was here and meowed.

Placing Happy's bowl down he immediately began to eat everything and I watched him in amusement.

"Seems like you like fish, huh?" I murmured. Happy looked up at me.

"Aye Sir!"

"I-I have to get used to this .." mumbling I stepped and bumped into Natsu.

"Oww Lucy. You're standing on my foot!"

"I-I'm sorry Natsu" I apologized.

"Whatever. I finished cooking" he said and took plates out of some cupboard. In a drawer he took out two forks and knifes.

"So you think putting cheese and bacon in toast and give it afterwards into the toaster, is cooking? " I giggled and went to the sink to wash my hands

"Of course" he said and I half laughed.

"Hey be happy that I made something. I actually don't cook often for someone. Only for me and Happy." Complaining he pouted what looked somehow really cute. I finished washing my hands and without hesitation I helped him with the plates. Together as a Team we put the toast out of the toaster and onto the plate. On each plate were two toasts full of cheese and bacon. After he washed his hands too we walked back to the living room and started eating. My eyes went wide when I ate a piece. It tasted good!

"Natsu" I swallowed down " that tastes delicious!"

"Who said making toasts isn't cooking?" he smirked. I just rolled my eyes and continued eating.

It didn't took long for us to finish eating. Happy were sleeping on the couch again after finishing his 'plate' full of food. I sat down beside him slowly because I didn't wanted to wake the cat. I didn't dare to touch the cat. Meanwhile Natsu was washing the plates into the kitchen what just needed some minutes.

Afterwards he sat down beside me. I was now in between Happy and Natsu.

"Natsu" I started a conversation.

"Mhmm?"

"I want to tell you something." With that sentence I got all his attention.

"When I was young – in the age of seven years – I had an accident with the car." I looked away from the pinkette who never stopped looking into my brown orbs.

"My family, my mother and father, were in this car too. We were driving home when it began raining. After some time I heard thunder and saw lightning everywhere in the heaven…" I swallowed.

"A lightning met us and for this time, my father couldn't see where he was driving. Of course we didn't get hurt by the lightning. But …" I stopped and my voice started trembling.

"B-But we crashed into a tree. There was nothing my father could do. I was unconscious and woke up the next day into the hospital." I could feel the tears started to build up inside my eyes.

"Mrs. Spetto, a friend of my parents was beside me when I awoke. I asked her what happened to Mom and Dad when I remembered anything but she just shook her head." My tears streamed now down the face. Natsu embraced me from the side. He put my head down onto his shoulder and I began sobbing.

"S-She told me that there was nothing the doctors could d-do. They said it was a wonder I got through the wounds. M-My parents died on the s-scene of a-accident…" I cried. I took me some minutes to calm down. But Natsu stroke me while holding me close to him.

"I-I lost my parents with the age of seven. That's why I'm afraid of th-thunder and light-ning. I always remember the moment back into the car when I see a lightning…" I cut of and trembled. Natsu did his best to calm me down.

"I'm here Luce. Shhh."

"A-And because I remember the scene whenever I tell about it – I didn't want to tell y-you."

"It's okay Lucy." Natsu even embraced me even tighter.

The rest of the night we were hugging, talking and watching some movies before going to sleep.

We were sleeping onto the same bed which was Natsu's and for this time, I was relieved he was there too.

But I woke up in the middle of the night and heard Natsu snoring. Natsu looked so peacefully while sleeping – except the snoring, of course.

Smiling I tried to sleep and closed my eyes when I heard Happy purring. Opening my eyes I saw Happy was beside me kuddling into my chest.

"Guess you don't hate me, huh?"

"Aye!"

"Please stop with that already!"
