Beautiful Control
Part 1 Chapter 4
Troll-Like Children

Time passed quicker than Evelyn could have hoped, and before anyone knew it, it was Halloween. It the space between that time and Halloween, Evelyn had managed to actually put on weight and the faint signs of curves were peaking from her once boyish body. She was still underweight, but far healthier. She also found she was in a better mood now she had more sleep as well. Whilst none of the teachers mentioned it, they were thrilled to see their favourite student finally looking healthier. She also found that her fatigue had dissipated, and she had much more energy for things. Madam Pomfrey warned her however that she may remain underweight, but if she's lucky, she might make a healthier weight. Evelyn was truly just happy to feel better.

Evelyn languished in the sun by the lake on her lunch break, making sure to take a sandwich to snack on. Her blue eye hurt at being in the light but the warmth felt nice. Luckily the sun wasn't too warm, given that it was autumn. It didn't seem to matter how much time she spent in the sun however, her skin remained as pale as ever.

At dinner, the hall was decked out in halloween paraphernalia. Evelyn took a small slice of chocolate tart. She noticed the way the other students watched in surprise still. So unused were they to seeing her eat. The Ravenclaw's fascination with Evelyn Greyarc's eating habits disappeared when Professor Quirrell came bursting in screaming about a Troll in the dungeon. Panic broke out. Professor Dumbledore silenced them in a booming voice.

The students all began moving towards their respective dorms. On the way out of the hall, Evelyn noticed Harry and Ron going the wrong way. With a silent curse to herself, she slipped away from the Ravenclaw's and ran after the two younger children.
"You guys! What are you doing?" Evelyn asked them with a frown once she managed to catch up.
"Hermione's in the bathrooms down there, she doesn't know about the troll!" Harry exclaimed. She almost rolled my eyes at him, although, was torn between going back or staying with the children. Oh for Merlins sake, she thought to herself.
"I'll come with you. Now that I know you're doing stupid things, I can't very well leave you on your own," Evelyn sighed. They all went for the girl's bathroom, almost running into the Troll on the way there. A high pitched scream came from the Girl's Bathroom. Evelyn tried to stop the boys, but they slipped past her.

"You guys! You can't face a troll!" Damn, they were exasperating. She ran after them to find Harry was upside down and Ron was looking like he'd wet himself.
"Stupify!" She yelled as she made the motion with her wand, The beast shuddered and dropped Harry, unfortunately, it'd take more than that.
"Use your wands!" Hermione yelled. "Remember, Swish and Flick!" Evelyn frowned at them, but Ron was already making the movements and before she knew it, the huge club it was carrying hit him right in the head and he tumbled down. Evelyn rushed over to the Gryffindor girl and helped her out then wheeled on the three of them.
"That was a very stupid thing to do!" she reprimanded, suddenly gaining confidence. "You could have gotten yourselves killed!"
"That's quite enough," McGonagall said from behind her. She wheeled around to face the teachers.

The younger kids struggled to explain themselves, but it resulted in five points to Gryffindor either way. After the younger children, they turned on Evelyn
"And what are you doing here, Miss Greyarc?" The Head of Gryffindor asked her with a much harsher tone.
"I spotted them leaving their groups and followed them."
"Why?" she asked in confusion.
"I didn't want them to get hurt."
"Next time, report to the teachers instead of gallivanting around with first years and their stupid ideas. You should know better!" She scolded. Evelyn's hand began to twitch nervously, a round motion. A horrible tell-tale tic of her Anxiety.
"Yes, Ma'am." Evelyn looked to the younger student's apologetic faces and gave them a small smile. It was fine. With a nod to her teachers she began making her way back to her dorm. A hand on her shoulder stopped her from going further.

She looked back to see McGonagall's concerned face.
"What were you thinking, Evelyn?" she asked, in a much softer tone.
"I honestly don't know miss, I was just afraid the younger kids would hurt themselves."
"I hate tell you this, but you're not exactly in any shape to be a saviour, Dear," McGonagall voiced her concern. Evelyn smiled at her transfigurations teacher.
"I know you think that, but the truth is, and we both know this, I am more than equipped to save a couple of kids from a troll. I'm good at magic," she told her teacher in a brave voice. Minerva smiled.
"Oh, sometimes I think you would have made a great Gryffindor. Now, off to bed, and try not to save anymore people on the way there," she joked. Evelyn bid her teacher a good night and left.

The year seemed to speed past, Evelyn had once again secured her place at the top of her year. She had heard of Harry and his two friends escapades on the third floor with Professor Quirrell. To be honest, she was glad he was gone, he was a difficult teacher if ever she had one. Of course, the house cup was awarded to Gryffindor, though this wasn't something Evelyn cared about.

She had visited Harry in the Hospital Ward to congratulate him on his survival skills, there was something about the young boy that made her feel protective of him.

Madam Pomfrey routinely checked up on her and made sure she was taking her medicine. She had also been sure to give her enough to last over the summer break.

On the train ride back, she once again had the compartment to herself, which, to be perfectly honest, was fine by her. She was dressed in her muggle clothes, a long sleeve black shirt and denim skinny jeans. She had tied her black hair into a high ponytail. She looked so different than she had at the start of the year, she was growing up. Although she was going into her fourth year, she would be fifteen. There were bound to be some changes that she was not prepared for. The young woman that was sitting in the same compartment as she did every year, was beginning to shape into the powerful witch her destiny required her to be.

Remus met with her at the platform and he almost didn't recognise Evelyn. She had finally put on weight. She was still slender, but healthy. Her skin seemed to radiate and her eyes shone, no longer did they have bags beneath them.
"Evelyn? Oh, Merlin! It's so good to see you!" he exclaimed, sweeping her into a hug.
"Hey, dad! I've actually had a great year!" Remus grinned wildly at her.
"That's fantastic! Anything interesting happen, then?" On their way back to their London home, Evelyn recounted the events of the year, from the Baygrout detention to the Troll in the dungeon to how Harry defeated Quirrell. Remus smiled at her.
"I knew Harry's Dad. We were good friends in school."
"Really? What was he like?" She asked him.
"He was a trouble maker, he was constantly trying to gain Lily's, Harry's mother, attention. He was one of the ones who learned to become an Animagus to help me through my transformations."
"He sounds descent," Evelyn noted.
"He was a good man. Lily was also a very great person. I hope Harry grows to be like them," Remus contemplated softly.
"I think he will. He seems to be a good kid," Evelyn reassured him. She wondered what fun would ensue next year? What trouble would Harry get himself into. What trouble would she? Evelyn grinned wickedly to herself. Maybe it was time to come out of her shell?
