Chapter 3: Children of Space

The system turns on and the Operating System "OS" glows in the dark cockpit as the lights turn on. Its pilot flips the switches turning on the reactor. He fastens his helmet and grabs the throttles; a comm link is established with the bridge of the ship.

"Brandon your squad is to break a line in the earth's orbital defensive line so we can enter orbit. Failure is not an option so please be careful." She says. Brandon opens the lid of his helmet.

"Janice I'll be back in time for dinner preparing to launch." He closes the link and man's his MS. Hermes Gundam, a speed type capable of hitting supersonic speeds making it a deadly weapon in the right hands. He steps on the launching pad and is sent out into space.

He takes a moment to enjoy the feeling of space, the stars and the very view of the sun is artwork itself. He then turns his gaze onto the Earth and prepares himself for the battle ahead. Behind him several other Gundam's are present never before has there been so many Gundam's apparent in the Universal Century at one time in total there five.

Hermes Gundam piloted by Brandon the Commander, Atlas Gundam piloted by Lawrence, Themis Gundam piloted by John, Koios Gundam piloted by Kyle, and Hyperion Gundam piloted by Rob.

The five are flying in a V-formation heading towards the space defensive line they are currently a few clicks out. "We separate here into two split teams; Rob and Lawrence take John and attack head on meanwhile Kyle and I will give supporting fire with the sun at our backs that should give us good cover." Brandon tells them the plan.

Rob groans at the plans directives. "What why am I stuck with John giving me the rookie that sucks. I and Lawrence can do it ourselves no problem." Lawrence grunts in agreement.

Brandon ignores his rant. "That's your orders just follow them. Kyle lets go." Brandon and Kyle break off and go their own way.

Rob facepalms hitting his helmet. "Ok then John don't slow us down so keep up." Rob blast off beginning his attack. "We will strike fast I'll make sure you don't get shot down your Gundam wasn't easy to steal you know." Lawrence says before flying off himself.

John switches on his OS "Themis will I die today?" an A.I voice comes from the OS "We will see now won't? The fates are never set in stone John." John chases after them.

The E.F. Space line that they're heading to has five Neil-Alexandria Class Heavy Cruisers.

Rob begins the engagement hitting the side of one of the cruisers with a beam shot. "We each get one soon we'll have a barrage of MS among us so watch each other's backs." Lawrence says.

"Got it. John your with me don't get shot down ok rookie?" Rob pulls out a beam saber and stops.

Five Jegans are launched from one of the Neil-Alexandria's and attack Rob. He boosts up and evades their beam shots as he charges into them.

"Even though you made this suit you Oldtypes couldn't use its full power." Rob cuts off one of the Jegans main camera and arms he turns and shoots the cockpit causing it to explode. "One down probably a dozen more to go."

One fires at Rob which he dodges easily as another charge at his flank but is shot down from a distance from John's beam rifle.

"Themis Oracle Activate." John's screen turns white and blinds him as plugs enter his helmet and a vast amount of data is being stored and processed into him. ""Two MS 180* to my right." He turns and luckily two MS appear behind him and as if on cue he fires missiles from his wrists destroying them.

The screen turns back to normal with John exhaling. "Themis looks like I won't die today I haven't foreseen it just now. Resuming mission." He flies off to engage with Rob.

Separately Lawrence, Kyle, and Brandon are farther away Kyle equipped with a beam sniper rifle.

"Kyle scans the ships and sees where we can make our opening. Once you do send all the data to the rest of us." Brandon directs. Kyle scans the line with Koios cognition and it spits out the best plan result. He then sends the data to his comrades.

Brandon talks on their comms "You all should have Kyle's data you have your targets. Hermes shall we go?" His A.I voice comes from his OS. "We'll take their hope, dreams, and then their lives at the end." Brandon flies out at great speeds even greater than the E.F radars can pick up.

In an instant he is at firing range of an E.F battle cruiser they launch their Jegans to intercept.

"Weaklings should be put down. This is for the peace of space." He aims his rifle and fires three shots each hitting the bridge of three different battle cruisers. "May you have the toll for the Underworld's passage."

Lawrence catches up to Brandon and rams his Gundam into a cruiser and embedded himself inside. "Atlas worlds collapse." Small beam nozzles appear from every part of his body and fires into the ship causing a large explosion. His armor protects him from the explosion of the cruiser as he makes way to regroup with the team.

The commanding cruisers Admiral sends out a retreat notice to all remaining ships. The ships make a hasty retreat to another sector of space. Rob and John begin to make chase as to leave no survivors. "Stop, there's no need for us to go and finish them off." Brandon commands. "Why not we were to wipe out every ship to clear the area." Rob disagrees. "Yes but with their resources depleted and all their MS destroyed all they can do is return to a safe zone which is hours away. Besides the Captain said leave some behind so the E.F. knows that a single small MS unit broke through one of their space defense lines." Rob gathers and agrees with Brandon as they return to the Olympus.

Brandon makes his way to the Captain to deliver his battle report. "All forces have either been destroyed or fled the immediate area sir. No casualties or major damages among us; all did exceptional jobs and was a key to our success." The Captain is an older gentleman in his late forties a few specks of gray hair in his beard but enough to give him a wise aura about him. The only man in Brandon trusts with his live more than anything as well as a foster father figure to him when his father was killed. He is Captain Jaccs Weiler.

"Well done Brandon your team has done an excellent job with no support from the ship. We will begin our descent to earth immediately. You've earned a rest Brandon retire to your room." Brandon salutes and exits.

He heads to the dining hall to grab a sandwich before he heads back to his room. Once inside he takes a bite of his sandwich and sits at his desk. He turns on a holo screen and places a call.

The screen rings a few times then answers with a young girl face appearing, she looks in her mid-teens with bright orange hair and light blue eyes her appearance leaves to believe she has attracted many boys around her age. She smiles once she sees Brandon and waves at him.

"Hey Amber sorry I haven't called you in a while." Brandon says in a sorrowful voice. "It's ok brother, just hearing your voice and seeing that you're alright puts me at ease. I heard from Uncle that you're headed down to earth…." Her face goes dark; Brandon knows full well what she's sad about. "I know you hate my choices and what I'm doing, but this must be done to avenge our father and to protect you and all of space I must do this. I am a soldier now baby sister I go where the fighting takes me." His words barely made her feel better but she nodded in agreement with her older brother. "Just promise me you'll come back you're the only family I have left." "I'll come back there's nothing on earth that can stop me from returning to you." An alarm goes off throughout the ship. "Looks like we are about to enter the atmosphere I'll call you when we are on earth. When I get back I'll have plenty of gifts for you." He smiles softly at his sister. At the sound of gifts she brightens up. "Really? Ok be careful brother I love you." Her face tunes out as the ship begins to rock back and forth entering the earth's atmosphere.

In the secret island base that holds Pandora's ace ship Nirvana….

Wally is sparring with Emmily on the mats. She roundhouse kick him in the head as he sprawls on the floor, which she goes to put him in a pin. Nicky is chatting up one of the mechanics while she's doing maintenance on Lorenzo's Gundam. Mohammad is in his Lab making weird designs of MS and mixing chemicals. Lorenzo is talking to Mikayla about something when she grabs his hand and pulls him down to her level for a kiss. She walks off as Miles and Nana run around causing a ruckus. She chases after them and Lorenzo smiles watching her do so.

Lorenzo walks over to Wally who is still pinned by Emmily and squats. "Come on Wally lets go to the city at the coast." Wally reverses and flips on top of Emmily. He looks into her eyes and sees a blush form on her face. Wally gets up and walks off the mat as Lorenzo throws a towel his way and catches it and begins to wipe himself down. "Ok dude lets go. Nice workout Emmily let's do it again sometime." She smiles and nods. "Why are you two going off base anyway? Does Michi know about this?" Lorenzo and Wally turn and quiet her down. "No way has he known we do this. It's just cramped up inside the base all the time. We usually go into the city to gather food and stock but Wally and I go to just hang out." Lorenzo explains. Emmily sighs at his explanation. Under her voice can be heard the word "Boys" and waves them off as she walks away.

Lorenzo and Wally runs off to the hanger and hop inside a heli. Lorenzo turns it on and looks out the window and waves at a mechanic that's been helping them sneak off. The mechanic runs up and hops inside. They fly out into the blue sky and head to the city.

A few hours later, Lorenzo, Wally and Kaden the Mechanic are in the city having a good time as usual. Kaden was a looker underneath all the oil and other chemicals that are usually on his face so he easily picked up girls. Lorenzo was good looking too but he had an aura that drove people away which may come from years of fighting plus he wasn't interested as he had Mikayla. Wally was also entertaining girls but Emmily was on his mind the whole time. Throughout their time there they went to a bar. The owners knew them so they were allowed in. Majority of the city knows they're with Pandora and the entire city like most others on Earth supported their actions. Some like this one gives supplies to aid in their effort. Due to this when the E.F. arrive the entire city take a code of silence denying any association with them to protect them.

The Olympus has entered Earth's atmosphere and are doing routine maintenance checks making sure everything is in order.

Brandon walks out his room stumbling a bit as he runs into John who's walking normally.

"First time on Earth?" John asks. Brandon nods his head. "I'm a Spacenoid never been to Earth before today. This gravity is…unsettling." John jumps a few times to see his sense of balance. "I was born in space too but taken to Earth for my 3 years of being alive. So I'm used to it by now, don't worry it may feel weird but you'll get used to it." The intercom comes on and Captain Weiler voice comes through. "We have arrived on Earth in a supposedly unmarked zone but to be safe Brandon and Kyle will scout out ahead and see if there are any E.F. forces stationed near by." Brandon makes his way to the hanger past John. "Well looks like I'll have my first taste of gravity in combat sooner rather than later. John, go see the others and help them out as well. Like me they also never been on Earth before." John nods and rushes off.

Brandon makes his way to the hanger with his pilot suit on. "Have you completed the tuning for him to be efficient in gravity?" He asks one of the mechanics "No it's taking a little slower since some of us have never worked in actual gravity before. Do you want to wait for us to finish or launch anyway?" "I'll launch if there is E.F. forces station near Kyle and I will radio back for the others. Right now go tune the other Suits so they will be combat ready." "Aye aye Lt."

Brandon gets inside his Gundam and it boots on. "So this is Earth huh? You ready Brandon this will be completely different from your previous battles in space." Hermes jokes. "I think I'll do fine Hermes, let's launch!" Janice face pops on screen. "Launch sequence has been handed over to you be safe." She advises. Brandon winks at her before his face tunes out her screen.

Brandon and Kyle launch out and advance several miles forward. "So this is Earth? All I see is water." Kyle says. "Looks like we're somewhere in the Atlantic Kyle, nothing but water for a while in every direction." Brandon adds. They see an island come into view. "Huh that's weird according to our data there shouldn't be an island here could it be uncharted?" "One way to find out I'll go check it out." Brandon goes on ahead leaving Kyle behind. Kyle takes a quick scan of the island with Koios and finds what its hiding. "Wait Shadow come back its dangerous!"

A few minutes earlier Nicky was chasing Miles who took his magazine from his room and now running throughout the entire base with it, Mikayla is teaching Kory and Nana math, Mohammed finally comes out his room but with blue dust over his face and a look of defeat as he failed on another one of his experiments.

Nicky chase Miles to the loading dock where he catches him and looks as they load on a new MS. "Whoaaaaaaaaaa that robot got the same face as Lorenzo's." Miles yells in awe. "So they finished our first prototype." Michi walks up behind them "Yes it passed the preliminary tests in our labs so they sent it here to us. Dionysus Gundam our first Gundam we created by Pandora a "terrorist" group." Michi gazes upon Dionysus and walks over to tell the movers where to put it.

When this happens a silent alarm goes off and lights start flashing. Nicky know this drill, it means enemy MS are in proximity of the artificial island. He runs over to the hanger to prep his MS. Mikayla, Mohammed, and Emmily are already there before him. Michi was running behind Nicky and runs to a holo comm to call the bridge. "Where are Lorenzo and Wally?" "I don't know sir they seem to not be on the island and one of our heli's is unaccounted for." Michi curses aloud. "Those two want to go and play hooky while we are getting attacked. You four into your MS Emmily take Wally's MS. You are to be on standby until we confirm they know we're here. Mikayla in combat you're in command since Lorenzo isn't here." The youths run to their MS as Michi runs to the C.C.

At this moment Lorenzo senses something while at the bar. "Mikayla….there's trouble? The enemy?" Wally and Kaden are still talking to girls when Lorenzo goes over to them. "Guys there's trouble we're leaving now!" Lorenzo runs out the bar and Wally gets up and runs out behind him. Kaden apologizes and catches up. "What's wrong Lorenzo not having fun today?" Kaden asks. "No I'm sensing danger and something else…..something has come down from space." "Space, you mean Zeon Rebirth? Have they attacked the E.F. so soon and even if they did it would take a fleet of their own to break the line." Wally says. "You can sense all that Lorenzo wow it's just like Michi says you're a Newtype born in the right era, the start of a war." Kaden says with admiration in his voice. "It's nothing like that I just felt Mikayla's distress and something coming down nearby. I'm not special I'm a killer or a refined soldier whatever you want to call me." Lorenzo makes it to the Heli and hops in and turns it on. Soon the three boys are on their way back to the base.

When Kyle warned Brandon he immediately dodged a particle laser and retreated back. "Thanks for the warning looks like our suspicions were right." Brandon says. "This isn't an island it's a base and it's fortified heavily we better warn the others." He warns; but before he can a beam shot wiz past him.

"Whoa MS?" Kyle looks and sees 4 enemy MS heading for them coming from the island. "Looks like this might be more than we thought. Kyle comm the Olympus and send the rest of the team I'll hold them off." Brandon orders. "Are you sure you still haven't been tuned for gravity battle." "Just go this is an order!" Kyle flies away to get within comm distance since the particles are blocking his signal.

Mikayla is piloting a Quebuelay variant and Mohammed is in his Golden Zaku VII Custom. "One of them is retreating; he must be going to get reinforcements." Mikayla analyzes. "I'll take care of this one myself you guys go chase after the one that ran away." Nicky suggests. "No we don't know our enemy capabilities or how many there are. It's better to stay together than separate right now. First we'll deal with the one before us right now." Mikayla orders.

"This one…is one of the MS we couldn't steal along with Orpheus Gundam." Mohammed says. "So which one is this?" Emmily asks; "Hermes…Gundam…." Nicky looks at his enemy and takes aim. "If we can't capture it we'll have to destroy it let's go Gamma formation." Mikayla flies to the rear as Mohammed and Emmily charge at Brandon.

Brandon Gundam's superior speed allows him to dodge them with ease. Nicky takes aim with his Hyper Bazooka and rocket pack and fires a full salvo. Brandon sees this and flies up to shoot the rockets and missiles easier when clumped up together. "These guys aren't a rushed team they have seen multiple battles together. My controls are off too, so is my aim looks like I might have some trouble. They don't look like E.F. could they be a militia?" Brandon ponders this but interrupted by Hermes moving the Gundam on his own to dodge bit shoots from Mikayla. "Better wake up Brandon that one is good." Hermes says. "To use the bits so effectively she must be a Newtype but…." Brandon looks at them all one more time sensing there power. "They're all Newtypes there's no way the E.F. can have a full Newtype team with high combat experience. They must be Pandora, the terrorists I've been hearing about." Brandon pieces together. "Brandon less talking more stealing of lives!" Hermes argues. "Sorry let's go HERMES!"

Brandon ups his tempo and press hard on the youths. Kyle in the meantime has reported back to the Olympus and is on his way back with Lawrence, Rob, and John.

"This gravity is completely different from artificial. It's like a weight on my back pressing me down." Lawrence complains. "We need to pick it up Brandon better not destroy them all before we get there." Rob yells.

The team see Brandon's battle coming into view and goes full throttle to arrive. Brandon falls back to regroup with them and it's currently a standoff.

"So they did steal those other Gundam's all five of them from the E.F." Nicky says as he prepares to face off against the opponents. "And its 5 on 4, we can only assume they are all skilled pilots so we're at the disadvantage." Mohammed adds. "We don't see their ship so that's also a factor. If only Wally and Lorenzo were here." Emmily says in disbelief. "Lorenzo is on his way right now. They'll get here on time…" Mikayla says with confidence. "How can you be so sure?" "I just know Emmily I can feel Lorenzo coming now at full speeds." Mikayla mind wanders as she see Lorenzo in the heli rushing back to the island to join the fight. "I'm on my way Kay hold on!" he says to her telepathically.

Brandon orders the attack and they scatter. Nicky charges forward to take on Brandon. Emmily engages Lawrence and Mikayla and Mohammed take on Kyle, John, and Rob.

Lorenzo comes into view of the island and in the distance he can see flashes of a battle. "Is that a MS fight?" Kaden asks. "Hold on Kay I'm here." Lorenzo tips the heli down to go faster as they come to the shores of the island.

Nicky is launching waves of rockets and missiles at Brandon who nimbly dodges them at high speeds. Brandon fires his beam machine gun at him which is blocked by his I-shield. "Damn he's too fast this is one tough customer."

Emmily was holding her own against Lawrence but is now in the defense against his attacks. Her mind is showing her imagines of Lawrence soul, his pressure is locking her up and Lawrence takes advantage of this and knocks into her and rips off her left arm.

Mikayla and Mohammed have their hands full dealing with Rob and John. Rob overpowering Mohammed with pure skill and John's Themis predictions are helping him anticipate Mikayla's bit attacks directions. Kyle is scanning their MS and giving out information to his comrades which help them know their opponents capabilities.

"Dammit they're too much; guess Gundam's are truly on another level completely." Mikayla struggles as John clash beam sabers with her. Mohammed left foot is shot off by Rob as he moves in for the kill. Mikayla sees this and focus her bits to block off his charges and protect Mohammed. "Damn this one must be the leader since she's the best got to take her out first then." Rob turns to Mikayla and charges to attack her from behind.

Just then a single beam shot pass him and stops his charge. "Where did that come from?!" He turns and sees another Gundam come from the island and fires more rounds his was as he dodges them. One shot hits John side and breaks him away from Mikayla. "I knew he would come." She says as Lorenzo attacks Rob and John. "Mess with Mikayla YOU DIE ALL OF YOU!"

Lorenzo rises his tempo and Orpheus goes into Mach 4. His speeds is unfollow able as he cuts off Rob's hand and John's left arm. "This guy…..!" "Themis is this where I die? Is that what your showing me? This guy I can't see a future where I live right now." Lorenzo turns around and looks at Kyle. "Next up is you…." Lorenzo sense Nicky's struggle and instead goes over to him. Kyle flies in his way. "Where do you think you're going?" He swings his beam saber at him but Lorenzo evades. "Weak…." Lorenzo pulls out twin beam sabers and cuts off both his legs and kicks him down to the ocean.

Lawrence now had Emmily in a bear hug crushing her MS when he is knocked off. "Who or what?" He sees a Gundam he has never seen before. "You think you can get away with this? DIONYSUS!" His Gundam glows purple and Dionysus speaks. "*Hic* Got another drink? Ahhhh Drunken Frenzy Mode activated for 350 seconds." Wally lets loose a barrage of fists and kicks which Lawrence can't do nothing but block.

Nicky is struggling against Brandon skills as a pilot. Brandon proved to be a more difficult challenge then he thought. Brandon outclassed him not only MS spec wise but also as a fighter. Everything Nick threw at him, Brandon countered with ease and accurate shooting. Having higher mobility and superior reaction time Brandon was toying with Nicky. Soon that was coming to an end when Brandon forced Nicky to purge his armaments leaving him only with a beam pistol and beam saber. With a quick move Brandon cut through his arms and was about to stab through the cockpit. Until someone screamed into his mind. "STOP!" Brandon hesitated then a shoot coming from below him forced distance between him and Nick.

"What? Another MS?" Brandon's scanner picked up the suit and it showed up on screen. "Another Gundam….that's the one we couldn't steal at that time. That means…"

Lorenzo flies to Nicky to see if he's alright. "Nicky you ok?" "Yea just banged up a lot, be careful with this guy he's on a whole new level." Nicky flies back to the island for repairs.

Lorenzo gazes upon his enemy before him. The two youths look at each other and feel a sense of connection like they have more in common then they realize. Lorenzo shakes off this feeling and looks at him with the intent to kill. Brandon picks this up and does the same.

No words said the two Newtypes engage in combat. Brandon soon found out Lorenzo was not another riff raff. His skills matched his "Shadow Comet" an elite in Zeon. "This guy is good been a long time since I've felt this. The feeling of my own death." Lorenzo fires beam rounds as Brandon nimbly dodges. "Wow this guy is handling everything I'm throwing at him my bloods boiling!" The two are fighting at super human speeds. A normal person would wonder to believe if humans are capable of such MS combat.

John pulls Kyle out of the ocean and starts to fly out the combat area. "John turn around now!" "What's wrong?" Kyle has a burning rage inside him. The humiliation he received from Lorenzo has him reeling. "We need to shot down at least one of them. Hand me your beam rifle." The two turn around to do so.

Mikayla has Mohammed MS in hers arms and watch as Wally is pummeling Lawrence in to a defensive ball. "We should see if Lorenzo is alright he might need our help." She says. She turns to the direction he flew in.

Lorenzo is locked in combat with Brandon the two on equal terms. "Time to die Zeon dog. ORPHEUS!" "A melody of death will join you into the afterlife!"

Brandon also prepares. "It's been fun but this is the end. HERMES!" "We'll steal their hope, future and lives!" Lorenzo pulls out his sonic cannon as it begins to glow green as is enters sonic beam mode. "The Third Melody: Grim Reapers Concerto!"

Brandon chest opens and begins to hum as it glows red. "Underworld's Passage: The Flight of Icarus!"

The two beams fire and collide the result is an explosion which sends both reeling. Lorenzo opens his channel. "Well your pretty good for a Zeon dog." Brandon opens his to respond back. "At least I'm not a puppet of the Federation." "The Federation don't you know who we are? We are Pandora the ones fighting against both of you."

Brandon finally realizes the symbol on Lorenzo's Gundam shoulder the Phoenix the symbol of Pandora. "I see if we have a common enemy then help Zeon destroy the E.F." "No you only want earth for yourselves as the E.F. want control over space. So many lives lost because of your conflicts I'll end both of you with my bare hands." Lorenzo's anger builds pressure coming from his MS. Brandon staggers to it. He has never felt such raw emotion coming from a human being. He senses a deep hatred coming from the depths of Lorenzo's heart.

Mikayla sees Lorenzo and Brandon fighting and stops seeing she can't help in no way as she is right now. Kyle also arrives and aims at Lorenzo. "This is payback asshole." He fires his shot at Lorenzo. He is currently too focused on Brandon to notice it coming. Mikayla sees Kyle aim at that moment without thinking she drop Mohammed and flies to intercept the shot.

She arrives in time and it hits the back of her Quebuelay. Lorenzo sees this and can't believe what he sees. She drops into the ocean and an explosion soon arrives afterwards.

Lorenzo mind races as his eyes are in disbelief. "Kayla?...MIKAYLA!" He screams. His mind torn as once again someone he loved is taken away from him. "I can't believe this once again I lost someone close….no this can't be NO!" he cries.

Soon a surge of power overcomes him and he hears a voice in his mind "So you want power?" A dark aura comes over his Gundam as Brandon hears two voices coming from him in unison.

"Go back…." Lorenzo says. Brandon looks and staggers. Lorenzo Gundam pulls out a beam saber and charges at him. "GO BACK TO YOUR WORLD OF DARKNESS!"
