"Axel. It's ok."
Axel could feel himself shaking. Ok? How could it possibly ever be ok? He fell to his knees, his hands the only thing keeping him from falling face first into the sand. "...Roxas..." More tears fell free and he heard the two exchange a few words, and Demyx left. Left him alone with Roxas. It wasn't really confronting Roxas that Axel feared. It was the fact that he was so certain that after the confrontation...
"Axel." Axel knew he should answer him now, but he bit his lip. That sweet little voice saying his name was like a long lost melody to his ears, and he knew that if he turned around to face Roxas's beautiful face, a whole new batch of tears would fall more quickly than the others had. But suddenly, he didn't have time to think about that anymore.
"Axel! Look at me, dammit!" Roxas frowned, and suddenly Axel was staring into those piercing blue eyes as Roxas threw himself onto the sand in front of him, taking him by the shoulders and forcing Axel to look at him.
Just like he knew would happen, the tears began to stream down his cheeks. "Roxas," He whispered around the lump in his throat. He didn't know what to say, even though there were a million things he wanted to tell him. Roxas seemed to be having the same problem. He stared into Axel's eyes a long moment, feeling tears well in his own sapphire pools. "Demyx... told me everything." He finally managed.
Axel lowered his gaze. "Roxas... I'll understand if... if you don't want to ever try with me again. I'm.. I can't even tell you how sorry I am."
"You don't have to, Axel. I can tell."
All was silent for another moment before Axel spoke again. "I don't think I'm even worthy of forgiveness from you at this point. I don't deserve it at all. I don't deserve you. And you don't deserve to be treated like this." He lowered his head. It would always hurt to look at Roxas, he decided. No matter what happened between them from now on, even if they lived happilly ever after, it would always hurt to think of this time.
"... You said it's my desicion, right?" Roxas finally asked. Axel nodded. Roxas sighed. "There's a few things I need to hear from you before I decide and I need you to tell me honestly, Axel." Axel looked up to find tears slipping down Roxas's own cheeks. "Axel. Do you love me?"
Now they were both crying. Axel locked his gaze with Roxas's own and nodded. "Yes, Roxas. I do. I love you more than anything in this world."
"Do you promise me right here and now that this will never ever happen again? Never, for whatever reason, no matter what?"
"Unless your life depends on it"
"Not even if my life depends on it!" Roxas frowned, shaking his head. "No! Not for any reason, I don't care what it is! I'd rather die knowing you love me than watching you pretend to love someone else, or believing that you really do love someone else. Got it?"
Axel frowned a bit, but he nodded. "Yeah.. I understand, Roxy... I'd want the same thing."
"Good. Now commit it to memory, dammit." He chuckled a bit, and Axel couldn't help laughing with him. "I forgive you this time. But I don't think I could take this again. So don't you ever leave me again, understand?"
"Babe, you don't even have to worry about it. I can't live without you, I really can't." Axel sighed, and pulled Roxas close in a deep kiss. He knew it was the truth. It was a truth he'd come to realize at more than one point in his life, and he wondered how he could have ever lost sight of that truth. He knew he couldn't ever do such a thing again. Living without Roxas wasn't an option. He couldn't take it. He knew that at some point, if Roxas had decided they wouldn't ever work out again, he might have ended up killing himself. At some point, when the pain was too much to bear. Seven weeks had seemed like half a year.
"God, Roxas, I love you so much." He cried as they held eachother. He refused to let Roxas go ever again, and Roxas clung to him as though making sure he never would.
Always remember
Every Breath that I take, Every Tear that falls,
And Everything I do
Will Always be for you.
Commit it to memory.
