Chapter Four

Yami was walking through the tomb, looking for his father.

He had heard his father shouting for him and had left the little death chamber.

He figured that whatever was out there had gone.

It seemed to like hiding in the shadows and therefore wouldn't attack him as long as he stayed in an area that bathed him in the light from the lantern.

He wanted to make sure that no secret passages by his feet were around; worried that he would be dragged through them like Yugi was.

"Father?!" Yami shouted, his voice wavering slightly in fear.

He couldn't hear anything anymore and he couldn't see any lights.

He had found himself in a maze of tunnels that he hadn't been in yet.

Yami was still recording the search with the video camera as the light shone on the walls like a torch and it was better than the light of the lantern.

He had picked it up off the ground after Yugi dropped it and was now the one recording the tomb.

~Daughter of the Gods? Where are you?~

Yami frowned, a confused look on his face as he looked around.

The wind was whispering once again.

Yami didn't understand who the 'Daughter of the Gods' was.

Only men had entered the tomb… As far as he knew anyway.

Yami kept walking and calling for both his father and Yugi.

He ended up finding a chamber that had a small staircase up to a small hole that led to another chamber.

It was the only way that Yami could go, other than turning around and backtracking through the maze of halls.

Yami sighed, shivering lightly as he walked up the staircase.

He placed the lantern in his mouth and held the camera in his left hand.

He crawled through the hall and back down the staircase on the other side, removing the lantern from his mouth.

Yami held the lantern up so that he could see the chamber, paling when he noticed a thick coppery scent.

He gagged slightly and placed his arm over his nose, trying to block out the sent.

Yami walked around the room, his eyes drawn to the walls.

A warning was inscribed into the wall in Hieroglyphics.

Yami mumbled as he read the inscription.

Beware whoever enters this tomb because the deadly Hermaphrodite God rests here. His gift enabled man to give birth but he possessed many other abilities as well. He turned against his fellow gods and the people themselves, bringing forth destruction. The gods sent him to their people, stripping him of all but a small portion of his powers. The god of male births had even the Pharaoh bowing at his feet and used this to his advantage. Eventually, the people rose in rebellion and sealed the former god away. A thousand volunteers sacrificed themselves to seal this evil entity away. The people fear that the god will be released so the Pharaoh sought help from the gods, placing a spell on the tomb that would kill all intruders and reseal the tomb once all threats were destroyed.

"What the?" Yami muttered to himself, frowning slightly.

He sighed softly and went back to looking around the chamber, noticing what looked like a sarcophagus in the centre of the chamber.

"I found the body?" Yami muttered to himself, walking over to the sarcophagus.

His eyes widened when he noticed that the top of the sarcophagus wasn't covering the mummy and the mummy wasn't a mummy.

Yami gasped, the colour draining from his face.

He started to feel sick at the sight before him.

Yami tensed, sensing something standing behind him.

He hadn't heard anything approaching but he could feel something only a foot behind his back.

Yami gulped and turned around slowly, his eyes widening when he saw the statue that looked like him standing right behind him.

Pink eyes looked deep into Yami's own pink eyes, the statue seemingly looking to Yami's soul.

Yami tilted his head with a confused look, the statue tilting its head at the same time and in the opposite direction, so their faces remained in front of each other.

The light wasn't bothering the statue, making Yami's theory wrong and his securities false.

"W-What are you?" Yami stuttered fearfully.

The statue straightened up and narrowed his eyes as he looked at Yami.

~Sleep, Daughter of the Gods~

Yami frowned, his eyes growing heavy.

"W-What's happenin' to me?" Yami asked, his words slurring slightly as his body tempted to tip into the statue.

Yami felt the statue's cold hands against his shoulders, his body finally going limp.

He was still partially awake, but he couldn't control his body anymore.

~Sleep, Daughter of the Gods~

The wind whispered once again while the statue picked Yami up bridal style.

Yami blushed faintly, his limp head leaning against the statue's solid stone chest.

Yami stared up at the ceiling and the statue as the statue walked through the halls, the statue clearly knowing where to walk.

'This isn't possible. A statue cannot be alive! What is going on?' Yami thought, using the thoughts to prevent his mind from going to sleep.

The statue walked into a chamber that seemed to be made of gold, no inscriptions on the wall. There was a single stone table in the middle of the chamber and a cabinet beside the table.

Yami felt himself get gently placed on the table, a cold hand resting on his cheek.

Yami looked at the statue, fear shining in his eyes.

~You're as stubborn as me~

Yami blinked. 'Is the whisper on the wind this statue's way of talking?' Yami thought, unable to voice his question due to his unresponsive body.

~Yes. It is my method of communicating. Only you seem to hear me though~ the statue replied with a smirk on his stone lips.

Yami tried to watch as the statue started digging in the cabinet that was beside the table, but he was unable to see.

Yami was finding it even harder to keep himself awake, the gentle sound of the statue's voice humming an old tune putting him to sleep.

The statue smiled when he noticed that the young boy that looked like him was asleep.

~Good. It's easier when you're asleep~

The statue gently stroked Yami's cheek for a moment, grabbing a knife from the cabinet.

The knife had the name 'Yami' inscribed in hieroglyphs, the blade of the knife being made of diamonds.

There was a button on the side that when pressed would make the dagger extend into a sword.

The statue gently took Yami's left hand and placed the dagger in his hand, grabbing a rose gold choker from the cabinet.

Yami whimpered slightly in his sleep, the cold metal from the choker making him shiver as the statue placed the item around his throat.

The centre of the choker had a small amethyst stone hanging from the centre.

~You're on your own now, Daughter of the Gods. May you save our people from yourself~

The statue bowed to the sleeping boy on the stone and then left the chamber, returning to his true spot.

He stood on his pole beside Anubis, the door to the tomb being pulled back into place by a mysterious team that should be long dead.

The door is sealed for now anyway. That won't last long as people now know where the tomb lies.

Once all was still in the tomb once again the gods decided that it was time to put their plan into action.

They had been waiting for this moment for a very long time.

They didn't expect it to take thousands of years for their plan to begin.

Time hadn't been fair, so they may have to 'bend' the flow of time… temporarily.

Yami didn't notice the temperature in the chamber heating up to an almost unbearable temperature.

He failed to notice a blinding light or the table beneath him becoming extremely soft and hot enough to burn his skin clean off.

The sleeping boy failed to notice his clothes disappear, leaving him in the nude and completely at the mercy of the environment.

Yami didn't notice the sound of growls coming closer or notice something circling his prone form.

If he did, he would have been shocked.

The gods knew the danger that the boy was in, so they decided to intervene before the kid got killed.

They needed him and they couldn't wait another 4000 years for the boy to be reincarnated once again.

Yami curled up in his sleep, hugging his legs to his chest as he shifted onto his left side.

He purred softly when he felt something wet run up his bare back, something licking him.

The predators recognised this boy and his significance, lying down near him.

They planned on protecting him until the boy was found by the Pharaoh's men.

Anyone else would be attacked and eaten as soon as they get too close.

Bastet would ensure the boy's protection, thinking of the boy as her own child.

A soft whisper on the wind made Yami start to wake up.

"Go away, Statue Me. Nap time," Yami muttered, placing a hand over his eyes to block out the awful light from Khepri's rays.
