Messed Up

"You're welcome," Elijah said in a monotone voice as he too then left the room; leaving Elena, Caroline, and Damon in silence as only the soft crackling from the fireplace was heard. Elena stared into the flames as they cast a glow to her face. Caroline pivoted on her left heel, her eyes scanning between the two. She shook her head in disbelief and chose to break the silence.

"I hope to find a love so passionate someday, like you and Stefan."

Elena turned her head and flashed Caroline that look, scrunching her eyebrows down as she noticed the emphasis Caroline had placed on Stefan's name.

"That means a lot Car…" Elena smiled as she brought her knees to her chest, glancing over at Damon whose eyes flickered before the firelight. Elena stared a little too long as Damon quickly cut his eyes to her, flashing her a look that she knew deep down was full of love and lust. Caroline cleared her throat and the two snapped out of it, looking over at her as she now leaned against the doorframe of the living room.

"Yeah, well…It's been real fun. Now that I know we're all alive and well I am going to call Matt. He must be worried sick about you Elena. You should try talking to Bonnie soon, she's probably wondering how the spell went."

Elena nodded her head to Caroline as she turned, her blonde curls bouncing lightly off her shoulders as the sound of her heels faded away.

"I'm glad you're okay…You should know that Katherine is back, and more Elena-ish than ever."

"What? Where was she? When did she show up?" Elena asked, her cheeks turning red with anger.

"The dance," Damon said with a sarcastic smile as his eyebrows arched up. "She was pretending to be you, hitting on Stefan, hitting on me. You know typical Kat stuff."

"Well what does she want?" Elena asked rolling her eyes.

"We didn't really figure that part out yet. Some freak show blew the power circuit for a couple of minutes but boyfriend of the year helped get the power back on," Damon chuckled as he pulled the flask from his jacket again and took a swig of it.

"Damon…"

"What?" Damon said looking Elena up and down, pretending to be curious when he sincerely just wanted to check Elena out. The way her body sat on the couch, he had a perfect view of her ass.

"You know what... We're going to have to talk about th…"

Damon's phone vibrated. He sucked his teeth as he pulled it out of his black jeans pocket.

"And kill-joy of the day would be... Oh, Stefan. Something tells me I could've guessed!" he said coyly as he slid the green 'answer call' button.

"What's poppin' brother? Elena and I are just enjoying the fire over at the Originals'. There's something very…cozy about this room," he giggled. Elena grabbed a coaster from the table and threw it at Damon, hitting him in the stomach."

She watched as Damon's eyes face twisted.

"Okay," he said softly and hung up the phone.

"What's wrong Damon?" Elena asked.

"We're needed at the grill. Stefan and Alaric are rounding the gang up for some serious bad vampire hunting. Someone's stolen Alaric's journal which means they are probably onto us all."

Elena sighed deeply.

"This night couldn't possibly become any more messed up…"
