Chapter 4
Klaus held his arms in front of him, till the white light faded completely. When it did, Hanson laid a grip onto Klaus's left shoulder and said "It's okay man, you can drop your cover" and pulled the arms off Klaus's face.
Klaus let his arms drop back down to his side, to be surprised that it didn't look like they moved anywhere. It was still the Grill.
Klaus eyes narrowed down to a glare aimed at Hanson.
"We haven't even moved, what was your so called ability again?" Klaus asked sarcastically.
"Rel-axxx we have moved, it's just the memory you need to see, just happened to be in the same location" Hanson replied casually as his eyes gazed down to the back of the entrance.
"And what memory shall this be from, you do know this is worst then reading a girls journal" Klaus responded.
"I should know" he admitted sheepishly.
Hanson turned his back to Klaus briefly and said.
"Since when did you care about personal space?" he mused with a raised eyebrow.
"I enjoy it very much" Klaus replied. At least when my siblings don't get in my hair.
Hanson rolled his eyes, and shook his head slightly with a small smile to himself.
"Damon was just step 1, there's a few more left to go."
"So let me get this straight... Damon was her ex boyfriend, who breaks her heart, and for me, witnessing it, it is suppose to help me understand on why Caroline is important to me, and that I'm going to see more...what?" Klaus demanded.
"More heartbreak?"
"Or seeing how much of a evil boyfriend I would make if I ever got the chance with her" Klaus replied.
Hanson gave a look of indifference.
"If you think that is why I showed you that memory, then you will have to reevaluate your assumptions."
"Then stop leaving out details or I'll assume as much as I like till you no choice but to tell me" Klaus snapped.
"You are soooo stubborn!"
"You could almost take the title of stubbornest person alive...almost."
"Why, who takes that honor...?" Klaus mused.
Hanson grinned widely.
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
"Not really...but I want you to reveal what this purpose is... so we don't waste each others time" Klaus stated to him.
"Fine..." he said.
"This better be good" Klaus answered.
Hanson looked dead in Klaus's eyes so that he had his whole attention.
"I want to show how every event in her life, that I show you, will led to something that answers why you feel drawn to Caroline"
"Why you can't walk away when you know you think should..."
"So I am going to watch events in Caroline's life?" Klaus replied.
"Yes, aren't you at least a little curious of what she was like as a human?"
"Like the one we saw earlier?" Klaus asked.
"If you think I'm enjoying of seeing Caroline in pain..." he started.
"Klaus this one is more lighter then the first" Hanson promised.
Klaus raised his eyebrows 'by what event will he show?' he thought.
"This memory resides between Matt and Caroline" Hanson replied with a smile.
Klaus chuckled as if he said a good joke, which caused Hanson to look puzzled.
"Oh the young chap Rebecca is pining over for his unrequited attention" Klaus grinned.
Hanson ignored that comment. Can he be more of a prick? he thought.
"This is where Caroline is, in a time trying to move over her past relationship with Damon. Unlike the first, they cared enough for each other, long before the feelings were mutual of becoming more."
"But of course... Caroline, in this time of her life, wasn't her best self" Hanson explained.
Klaus grew curious and concerned.
Right on queue, there not too far from them, was Caroline, dressed in an attire of a classic doll from the 50's.
This Caroline held up her soft blonde locks in a carefully, placed, clipped, curled hairstyle, with white flower pearl earrings, paired with a pearl drop charm bracelet, a pale yellow cardigan with flowers, a thick black leather belt and a dark coloured flower print circle skirt complete with black ballet flats.
Klaus looked her up and down.
"Are you sure about that" he couldn't help but say. If she looked ravishing in the 50's garb, I could only imagine what other decade would of made her blossom more.
Meanwhile in the mind of this version of Caroline, she was muttering to herself, encouragement that she could be honest with Matt, on why she insulted Ben the bartender, of being a washed up jock and will be only that, unaware that Matt could likely relate in that status of waste of space.
"I will do this" she said softly. I'll tell him I made a mistake and hopefully he will understand.
So with this she approached Matt who was collecting some discarded dirty plates from a empty table and spoke to him even with his back turned away from her.
"Look I said something stupid, I'm sorry... But I wasn't really talking about you" Caroline admitted honestly.
Matt sighed and turned his back facing her.
"Yes! ... You were Caroline, Ben could easily be me, we're just a like" Matt said.
"That's not true!" she exclaimed. "Are you seriously mad about this?" she protested.
"Look Matt you know me!" She said firmly.
"I say stupid things without thinking, then I have to apologize and take it back" Caroline said with her own judgment nagging her of her stupidity.
"I'm a terrible awful, person, but I'm working on it" She continued.
"Look can we just not do this right now" Matt interrupted her with a frustrated tone.
Doesn't she see he has work to do.
"Okay... When do you get off" Caroline asked softly. Not wanted her feelings push him away again.
Matt's expression and tone softened, looking at Caroline's sadness.
"Look, this thing we got... it's nice, and it feels really good, and I know you want to take the next step..." he admitted knowing Caroline was seeing him in another light.
"How do you know that?... Have you even asked me?" She said in surprise and disbelief of what he said to her.
I don't recall saying anything like that to him. I'm too scared to even think of try, unless I was sure he would give me the chance or walk away.
At this Matt's voice become unsteady, like he was having difficulty to on choosing the right words to describe of his inner feelings.
"I'm not over Elena..." he admitted.
Caroline's face faltered.
"I... don't know if I am, but if we go there, then it can mess things up, and we might lose this."
"And this..." gesturing the space between them "Is the only good thing, I got going for me right now, so if it doesn't work, I'll disappoint you and hurt you and I don't wanna do that" he said with a shake of his head to further say I really don't.
Caroline's face was almost unreadable as she processed his words and nodding. And to think I'm the one who assumes things she laughed quietly in her mind. Matt is right about me wanted to be more, but he's wrong into saying I was rushing him into doing so... we had time, I care too much to rush him into even going to the next step because it's a BIG step. It's a two person decision of choice and I never said anything.
"Well big problem Matt" She said sadly but fed up.
"Because you took the next step, all by yourself, and you played the whole thing, all in your head, and you decided to bail before giving it a shot."
I'm never going to be the one, I'm done being the back up, I want to pick by being me Caroline thought.
"So this really great thing that we have, don't worry about losing it cause it's already gone."
And with that, she turned her back on Matt and went out the Grill doors not bothering to look back at him if he would go after her.
(Back to Klaus and Hanson.)
"Ahhhh the curse of being around a doppelganger!" Klaus said aloud, after enjoying his drink Hanson managed to convince him to conjure up.
"Thank goodness I came to my senses... Klaus sighed, "Unfortunately Elijah did not." Pathetic.
Hanson felt himself twitch slightly, he better be careful what he says, no I better be careful on what I do.
But he couldn't help himself.
"Klaus why is the idea of love so vulgar to you!" Hanson demanded in an exasperated tone.
To be honest, he did know, but he wanted to know as this was from the source.
"Does it really need to be defined?" Klaus sighed at Hanson's possible, yet ludicrous ideas, of what he thought of love.
"Well I'm pretty keen on how you plan to visually define the word" Hanson dared him.
"Very well" Klaus answered simply.
"Love is something, that can be exploited, love can lie and love can make you do things that changes you indefinitely, someone you can hardly recognize."
"Don't you believe in second chances?" Hanson questioned.
"Depends on what the second chance is given for?" Klaus replied after thinking about it.
"Finding the one, or possible love, that you never expected, to ever appear, even after another love was lost."
Hanson knew this wouldn't be easy but another thousand years on his own will never convince Klaus, unless he showed him how.
"You need to see the rest of the memory..."
"Time for some fresh air" Hanson said.
With a quick snap of his fingers Klaus and Hanson found themselves in a dark road area.
"We are going to have to walk a bit, to catch what you need to hear."
So they walked for a bit then slowly heard heel footsteps echoing on the footpath gravel not too far along ahead them and huffing from the incoming figures obvious frustration.
Caroline, apparently must have caught a ride from her friends to the 50's decade dance at the school, possibly Bonnie, she definitely didn't think her actions through as she left Matt in a state of surprise and shock of his terrible mistake. So she found herself walking all the way home in her heels.
No way was she going to ruin the flare she made back at the Mystic grill. It would be too embarrassing.
And following Caroline not too far behind was a worn out blue truck trailing beside her as she kept walking in a huff in her 50s clothes and stubborn zeal against the driver who was in fact Matt.
"Caroline get in the truck!" Matt called out in a heavy tone.
But knowing Caroline she was as stubborn as a mule. As her heels kept moving shaking her head.
Fortunately for him it was too late in the night for any other vehicles in the area so Matt did something Caroline didn't expect.
He got out of his truck in the middle of the road before the crossing, and shut the door to go to her.
Caroline then crossed over the street, crossing to reach him in a mood and waved her hands out and yelled "What!" at him till they were face to face.
And then Matt unexpectedly cupped her face toward him and kissed her with so much feeling, he wasn't sure where it came from. But knew this meant something great.
Caroline let her eyes close to enjoy what was happening, even more so that this was Matt.
He eventually let go and Caroline open her eyes to look into his ones in awe.
"This will never work" he smiled.
Caroline shared his smile and they kissed again. Under the side street lights in the darkness.
"You should be so lucky Rebekah isn't joining our ride of memory lane, she breaks necks" Klaus seethed unhappily.
Hanson chuckled. "I believe you, but then it's not about her. It's about Caroline."
Klaus said nothing just watched the two lovebirds as they kissed and then happily left together in his truck.
"She is light isn't she?..." Hanson said softly as he also watched their departure.
Klaus froze and opened his lips slightly at what Hanson said.
"She is light for you... as she was for Matt Donovan..." he smiled knowingly at Klaus.
"Caroline gave Matt hope that he could find love again, helped him move on and be happy."
"She is hope, as she is light."
Klaus smiled to himself. Yes she is.
"Please don't think it's a waste of time. Caroline still believes in it and when Matt did wrong, she wasn't afraid to admit she's not perfect. In the end she got her ending in the end."
"You just might get a second chance as well" Hanson assured him.
"I doubt it, but I never backed down on a challenge. And then this is a difference between him and me. He's human, they both were" Klaus replied.
"Yeah but that's the past, not the only thing you need to understand" Hanson stated.
"Time to go" Hanson told to Klaus.
Gesturing him to follow him away from where they were.
Klaus absently looked back at where they left.
Then followed Hanson saying nothing.

"The next one we are going to visit, is not what I expect you to tolerate, but I don't want you to make a fool of yourself. So don't even try to fight me on this" Hanson warned him.
Klaus tilted his head at him with a raised eyebrow.
"And what kind might that be?" Klaus asked curiously.
Hanson then turned around to face him. "The kind that makes your mood swings to 100."
Hanson placed a firm grasp on his shoulder and then snapped his fingers.
This memory was in a more darker area then the first two, so he knew no people would be thriving and dancing this time. First of all, it was outdoors in the woods. He recognized the dirt covered trails and roots that he often passed over when he was last here. It was a silent quiet place he liked to go and think, where only the whistling of the trees was heard. Or at least it was supposed to be. Till some terrifying noises were heard in the distance.
"What's going on?" Klaus said to Hanson as he searched around to see where it could be coming from.
Hanson looked at Klaus and then gestured to the sky.
Klaus saw the full moon. What memory in Caroline's life means to the night of the full moon?
Then his expression turned dark and realization sunk in of this memory.
"You're right, I'm getting to 100" he said in a voice so sinister it would chill anyone in the room.
Author's Note
Don't expect this to not be edited or changed because I like to nitpick my work. It's a given. And I really, really was just lucky that this story came through than the Kalijah story. Which I still need to continue to make work. (praying so hard for that)
So for all the readers who faved and followed. I thank you for your support on this adventure of Klaroline with me. Oooo and review please. I really love and enjoy your thoughts and advice.
Lots of hugz from Kurisutori618
(P.S This was really hard to write even though this events in the series have happened. Klaus isn't very easy to understand in voicing opinion and action cas he's unpredictable. So if I update, I update, if I'm don't I'm in the middle of writing or too busy. Okay that's all. Thanks)
