AN: its short but this chapter solely focuses on Kagome's mother, Midori.
Chapter 4

(Higurashi Shrine)
Midori hummed to herself as she washed the dishes. Souta just left to sleep over at a friend's house, leaving her alone since grandpa Higurashi was put into a nursing home by his medical doctor. She would often visit him and have lunch or take him one of those historical myth books, he often liked to read. Once she finished she walked to the living room's book shelf and picked up the novel she's been reading lately. The book was a perfect mix of romance, adventure, mystery and a bit of comedy here and there. Sitting down in the recliner chair, she opened to start where she left off but couldn't concentrate.
'I hope Kagome's doing alright, she left 6 days ago' she thought, she was always worried for her daughters safety 'Hiroki watch over Kagome please' she prayed
Just like that her eyes bulged…
"I FORGOT TO TELL KAGOME ABOUT HER FATHER!" she yelled
After some tea and a bath she finally managed to calm down long enough to remember, Kagome was in the eastern lands while her father Hiroki should be in the southern lands somewhere. Hopefully she'd be able to tell Kagome before the two ran into each other. Ever heard of the phrase like father like daughter, well that would describe the two perfectly. Hiroki had quite the temper and no one liked it when he got angry, especially since he controlled fire.
Eventually she went to bed, she'd have to go shopping tomorrow.
(Couple hours later)
(Midori's dream/flashback)
The castle of a lower demon lord was aflame. Southern land soldiers were everywhere killing off any in sight, humans, demons, they all were to go. The southern demon lord had heard of a new born wolf cub with incredible powers and wanted to raise the cub as a weapon to take over the north, east and west.
Atop a hill overlooking the slaughter was a mated wolf demon pair, the female holding onto the cub they were seeking. She refused to let those barbarians lay a single claw on her cub. The male was thinking of ways to get his mate and cub to safety without alerting those petty fools who obeyed their pathetic lord's every command. The only safe place he could think of was the Western or eastern lands. Lord Mattaki, the famous Inu no Taisho of the west, wouldn't allow them to be harmed. The leader of the eastern wolf tribe Toga was an old friend and would most likely take them in, though his pack might not. The west was closer, he would be able to hold these fools off long enough for his mate and cub to cross the border into the west…
"Midi" he said using his nickname for her "I want you to go to the west while I hold them off. Don't think about arguing, I won't take the chance of losing you two okay" he said softly
Her eyes watered "Hiroki be careful, please" she begged
"I'll do my best" he stated "Now go! They're almost here" he commanded
She nodded and ran as fast as she could. She looked back in time to see a spear go through his stomach…
"HIROKI!" she cried
She nearly stopped but knew he'd want her to get to safety, so she kept running. Her cub was awake and in tears but strangely didn't make a sound, like the little one knew of the dangers surrounding them. Suddenly she tripped, instinctively curling her body to protect the cub as she rolled. Her back hit a rock and she bounced off, into the air and straight into an old dried up well.
Climbing out, she ended up on the shrine. Stepping out of the well house she was greeted by a man in his mid to late 50's. Not able to stand anymore she collapsed holding her young one close. When he came over to help her, she let him but when he tried to take the cub she growled…
"The cub stays" she said, a silent threat in the air
The man took a laundry basket put a couple pillows in it then an extra soft blanket on top and set it on a dining chair that he put next to the couch which the female was laying on.
"How about this? I'll put the cub in this makeshift bed, that way its close by, you can see it and I can tend to your wounds" he suggested
She nodded after a moment before she spoke up…
"She" the female said
"Pardon" the man said confused
"My cub is a girl" she said
"Ah okay" he said before turning to the girl "Sorry little one, I couldn't tell with your blanket and I doubt your mother would let me remove it" he stated softly
He cared for the grown females wounds and put a band aid on a little cut the cub had on her shoulder.
"What's your name" he asked the adult
"Midori and that's Kagome" she said falling asleep
(End dream/flashback)
Midori woke up a bit startled, to her it was a few decades ago but in actuality it was 864 years ago. Looking at the clock she discovered it was 7:05 am, with a sigh she got ready and went shopping.

AN: Sorry it's so short. Took me awhile because I've had so many different ideas, not all related to this story. Next chapter we'll be back in the feudal era with Kagome and them.
