Okay, I'm sorry that the first two chapters were really short, but from now on they will be longer. I promise:D
Edit: sorry that this is uploaded a week later than when I said it would be, but for some reason wouldn't let me log in. 'twas very annoying.
Disclaimer: IF I OWNED MERLIN IT WOULD STILL BE ON AND NO ONE WOULD HAVE DIED
Chapter Three
Arthur sighed. He was in his throne room, receiving complaints, court cases and pleas for help. So far he'd had three neighbors disputes, five unhappy couples and two women asking for monetary help after their husbands had died. He wished Merlin was here. He was bored. Normally Merlin would be making silly faces, or muttering ridiculous comments under his breath, but since it was his birthday - Arthur made a note to get him a gift - he had the day off, and Arthur was bored.
He waved the woman in front of him away, saying that she'd be given a job here in the castle and that they'd make sure her children would receive proper food and shelter.
Looking down at the list in front of him, he saw he had four more cases and a Druid... Huh, he could have sworn that wasn't on the list a second ago. Oh well, he must be seeing things.
Four more exhausting court cases later, Arthur was ready to give up his kingship. Who knew simple things could be so demanding? Who cared about the Guild of Polishers? Or the correct way to divide a field? Arthur was thankful the day was almost over. Only a Druid to go, and they wouldn't be any trouble at all.
'Next!' he called.
The guards pulled open the doors and in walked.. a little girl?
She couldn't be the Druid, even thought she did look awfully familiar. Black locks hung past her waist and she had crystal blue eyes. And was that blood all over her dress? Out of the corner of his eye, Arthur noticed Sir Leon go pale. Then a clear, musical voice echoed through the room.
'Arthur Pendragon, the Druids need your help.'
Arthur just stared for a minute or two. As did the rest of the court. Was this innocent little girl really a representative of the Druids?
'Four days ago, our camp was attacked and everyone was brutally murdered. I was the sole surviver. Those responsible intend to attack other camps, which is why I am here. I would ask that you send Camelot patrols into the forest to protect my people.' the girl continued, sounding decades older then she looked. She couldn't have been more then six or seven. Arthur realised the court was looking at him to respond. Oh, right.
' I would be glad to send soldiers to protect your camps, but I must ask why you do not simply defend yourselves? You are certainly capable of wiping out any who attack.'
'The Druids are a peaceful people and we would not use our gifts to hurt others. That is not why we were given them. Even if attacked, we are honour-bound to not hurt others.'
Arthur sat back in his chair for a moment, wondering why they would not defend their children. It was absolute he already knew what he must do.
'Four patrols will ride out at dawn tomorrow to protect your people. Do you have anywhere to stay for the night? We would be happy to-'
The girl cut him off,' No thank you. I have a older brother who works here in the castle. I'm sure I can stay with him.'
Just then a crash could be heard in the hallway outside, followed by a high-pitched yelp. The doors banged open and Merlin strolled in.
'Hey prat, do you know where Gwen is? 'Cause shes not in her chambers and- Oops..'
Merlin had just noticed the entire court staring at him and turned beet red. Arthur wanted to smack him on the head. Why did he have to come barging in at this very moment?
Looking around, he could see most of the room still staring in surprise at Merlin. But they got an even bigger surprise the next moment..
'MERLIN!' the little girl shrieked and ran at him, throwing her arms around his waist. Huh?
"Kessie!' Merlin responded with the same enthusiasm, picking the girl up and spinning her around with a big grin.
Arthur just sat there, stupified. What just happened? Merlin and the girl stood there, chattering in a strange language, while the whole court sat in shock. He didn't want to be mean but...
'WHAT THE HELL MERLIN? WHO IS SHE?'
Merlin turned red again. He could see that Arthur was confused, and with Arthur that also meant cross. He wasn't quite sure how to explain it, especially in front of the whole court.
'Well, Arthur uhh, thats kind of a long story. But this is my little sister Kismet.'
He could see Arthur's brain working through what he had just said. Guinevere, sitting next to him, looked shocked as well.
'But we went to- and met- there wasn't- You never said you had a sister before! How come she wasn't at your village?'
'Yeah, as I said, it's a very long story. May we be dismissed Sire? I want to get Kessie cleaned up. Its sort of hard to see your little sister covered in blood.'
'Yes, yes go ahead. But I'm coming to see you later Merlin. And I want the whole story.'
Merlin walked out of the throne room happily, bouncing Kessie on his hip. Behind him, he heard Arthur dismiss the court, and he increased his pace, wanting to get to Gaius's chambers before Arthur could catch up to him.
Merlin poked Kessie in the side as he walked and she let out a peal of laughter, giggling as he tickled her. Hearing footsteps behind him, he hushed his sister and ducked behind a column, watching Arthur stride past with a red face.
'MERLIN!' the shout echoed around the castle. 'WHERE ARE YOU?'
Merlin stifled laughter and Kessie giggled quietly as they slipped through a side door and up a stair case leading to a secret door in the physicians chambers. Poking his head around the door, he saw Gaius looking very flustered, with books in piles all around him.
"Merlin!' the old man exclaimed, 'Thank goodness you found me, I've lost a little girl, and I think she may be more then she seems-'
'Its okay Gaius.' Merlin interrupted. 'Shes no danger at all, and I've got her right here with me. Her name is Kismet.'
Walking into the room, he plonked Kessie down on a bench and turned to Gaius. He was white as sheet and staring at Kessie as if she were a ghost come back to haunt him.
'Mer-Merlin, you do realise who that child is?'
Of course, its my little sister Kismet! Who else would it be?'
'Hey, lay off the little, Merlin. You're only a few years older then me.' Kismet interrupted. She smiled cheekily at Gaius. 'Hey Uncle Gaius! Bet you didn't think you'd ever see me again did you?'
Gaius sucked in a shaky breath. 'Hello Kessie. It's good to see you my dear.'
He rounded on Merlin. 'What is going on Merlin! How is that child alive, and how is she so young? What did you do?'
'Umm.. Well you see... Kessie is kind of..'
'Spit it out boy! What is Kessie?'
'KessieisKismetandshessortoffatebornintoamortalbod y...' Merlin rushed out in one long garbled sentence.
'One more time. And say it slowly for goodness sake!'
'Kessie, her real name is Kismet but you already knew that, and she is sort of Fate, Destiny born into a mortal body and she stopped aging when she was six so we had to send her away when I left as well, and we told everyone she was dead to make things easier..' Merlin spluttered out.
Gaius just stood there with his mouth wide open, staring at Kessie.
'Well done clot-pole, you broke Uncle Gaius!' Kessie exclaimed brightly.
'Hey, thats my word!'
'What are you going to tell everyone?' whispered Kessie nervously, ' How can you explain me suddenly appearing out of nowhere, when most of these people have met Mother?'
'Don't worry Kessie, I'll think of something... Hey, do you think we should tell Gaius that he won't find anything about Fate being born into a mortal body in his books?'
They watched him search frantically through the piles of books for a few more seconds before closing Merlin's bedroom door quietly and settling on the bed.
'No, don't bother, he'll give up in seven minutes and come find us. Oh, and Arthur will be here in 18 minutes, so you might want to keep the explanation to the basics.'
'And everyone says I have the cooler powers! How come you can see the future without having nightmares like seers do?'
'Merlin, I told you before, I don't see the future! I see people's fate lines, so I see the decisions they will make in the future and their destiny! Urgh, you are so annoying!'
'Hey, you sound like Arth-'
'Shut up Merlin!'
...
...
'Okay I was lying before. You sounded just like Arthur then!'
'Merlin..'
'Shutting up now...'
Arthur strode up the stairs to Gaius's chambers, fuming with anger. How could Merlin do that? He didn't tell Arthur, his best friend, that he had a sister, even thought they'd known each other for seven years! He made Arthur look a fool in public, and he hadn't trusted him enough to explain there either. merlin better have a good explanation for this, and Arthur wasn't leaving until he got it.
Stopping outside the door into the physician's chambers, he gathered some form of self-control, so he wouldn't scare the girl or Gaius. He could explode at Merlin later. He grinned at the thought, then frowned when he remembered why he'd be exploding at Merlin.
