Here's chapter 4, I hope you enjoy it!
I don't own OUAT
"What are you doing, Princess?" the woman asked when Jay hid under the covers of her bed.
"I don't like when someone gets injured in the story. Specially the pirate…"
"But you already know what happens, so you don't have to worry!" Kale told his sister.
"Your brother is right, there's no need to worry, dear…" the woman said.
The 7-year-old poked her head from under the covers and looked at her mother, who was smiling sweetly at her. She slowly nodded her head.
"Okay…" she said "Go on with the story"
"As I was saying…"
They got onto their horses and headed as fast as they could to the camp.
"You think they're following us?" the Queen asked while holding tightly the rains on her horse as they galloped through the forest.
The girl looked behind her and saw that the Land Pirates were far from them, but were following them. She cursed under her breath.
"Yes" she answered as she tried to avoid the trees "But it doesn't matter. When we get to the camp it'll be night"
"And that's a good thing because…?" she asked jumping over a fallen tree.
"I already explained that! If they attack us at night, we have a better chance to beat them" she glanced back at her dad, who was still semi-conscious "Don't worry, Dad, we're almost there" she reassured him.
When they got to the camp Regina helped the girl to take Hook to the tent. They set him down and Sophia went to get him something.
"Where do you think you're going?" Regina asked when she noticed the pirate trying to stand up. He looked up at her and smirked. She mentally rolled her eyes. He's still got that smug smile on his face even when he's at the verge of death… She thought.
"Well, isn't it obvious, love? I'm going to get my sword to fight those bloody thieves…"
"You're not going anywhere…" she said pushing him back down "You're going to stay here and rest"
"Look, love, I didn't expect you to notice, but those men are the most dangerous thieves in the land, and I can assure you they would be very pleased to find two beautiful women in the middle of the forest without protection" he said almost without thinking.
'He thinks I'm beautiful?' Regina tried not to blush at the comment. She realized he also said she was helpless and was about to snap at him when Sophia came in and threw an apple to the pirate.
"Catch" she said. Hook grabbed the apple before it hit the floor.
"What am I supposed to do with this?" he asked. Both women raised an eyebrow at him as saying 'Seriously?'. He sighed and took a bite of the apple.
"I thought you were going to get water from the lake"
"I tried, but I couldn't reach it. I don't know what, but something was keeping me away from it" she explained.
"How odd…" he mumbled "Maybe I should go. Since I'm the wounded one…"
Sophia and Regina exchanged looks, as if trying to decide if it was a good idea.
"I guess it'll be the best to have him healed first" the Queen said. The girl nodded in agreement.
Then they turned back to Hook.
"Alright, but I'll go with you" Sophia said.
"Works for me" he shrugged.
They slowly helped him get up, trying not to hurt him and got out of the tent.
"Gina, do you know any cloaking spell to put around the camp?" the girl asked. Regina looked down in thought and nodded.
"I think I remember one, but without my spell book I don't know how much it will last"
"Well that's better than nothing…" Hook said "We'll be right back" he turned to his daughter and wrapped his right arm around her shoulder for support "Let's go"
They turned around and walked to the lake.
Regina was trying to remember what the spell book said about cloaking spells, but she barely remembered. Something could go wrong if she didn't cast the spell correctly. She needed her spell book. Then something came to her mind. 'Of course… Why I didn't think of that before?' she thought.
She closed her eyes and pictured the place where she last saw the book. She raised her hands together and separated them above her head opening her eyes. Purple smoke came out of her hands while doing that, and when her eyes opened, the smoke disappeared revealing a book. She smiled as it landed in her hands. She ran her fingers through the front of the old spell book.
Regina quickly searched for through the yellow pages until she find what she was looking for. With a simple blow over the page, dark smoke emerged from it and flew upwards, expanding like a translucent tulle around the camp and the lake, making everything and everyone outside of it unable to sense or see what was inside.
She smiled to herself knowing that they were safe from any danger. 'We'll be fine now…' she thought. But her good thoughts were interrupted by screams she identified as Sophia's. 'Or maybe not'
She threw the book inside the tent and ran in the direction Hook and Sophia went. As she got close to where they were, she heard Sophia screaming "No! She's not her, Dad!" and "Don't go! Don't let her fool you!"
When she finally reached them, she saw Sophia slumped next to a tree, holding her head in pain screaming at Hook, who was in the lake with the water to his knees, approaching… her?
The woman had her face, but that definitely wasn't her. She was wearing a white dress and a strange tiara on her head. She was walking further into the lake, with an arm reaching for Hook, while calling for him.
"Come to me, Killian" the woman breathed with the Queen's voice "You know how much I'm longing for you"
Regina scowled. Who the hell was that woman? She heard Sophia whine in pain and turned at her. Forgetting about the woman, she rushed to her side and helped her sit against the tree. She was very pale and her eyes were tightly shut. She even had tears rolling down her cheeks for the pain she was feeling.
"Sh… sh…" she tried to erase some of the pain running her hands through the girl's head "Everything is going to be okay, Sophie. I'm here"
The girl finally opened her eyes to look at her, but there was something odd with them. Instead of being a blue-brown color, they were almost white.
"Gina…" she whispered.
"What happened to your eyes? What's wrong with you?" she asked cupping her face with her hands and wiping away the tears.
"T-That doesn't matter right now…"
"What's going on?"
"We w-were going to get water from the lake for m-my Dad to heal his wound and stop the p-poison…" she paused to catch her breath "When she appeared. The mermaid…"
"Don't mermaids have a tail?" she asked.
"There are different types of mermaids…" she explained.
"Why does she look like me?"
"That's the thing about this kind of mermaid. This is one is a siren, she can change into whomever their victims care the most so she can seduce them and drown them" she winced and pulled the Queen's hands away "He's in a trance, we have to do something before she drowns him…"
"What do we do?"
"Try to pull him out, make him realize she's not you" she said as she struggled to stay conscious and stand up.
"No, no, no. You stay here, I'll go" she said pushing her back down against the tree "You need to rest"
And with that, Regina approached where Hook and the mermaid were.
She was nervous. Sophia said the mermaid morphed into the person one cares the most. And knowing that she was the one Hook cared the most made her feel uneasy. She didn't know how to really get his attention, so she simply tried to call for him.
"Hook!" she said "Hook, she's not real! I'm right here!"
Nothing, he didn't even flinch. She got an idea, but she didn't feel comfortable with it, so she sighed and tried again. And when it didn't work, she tried again and again.
She was running out of time, and nothing she tried worked. There was only one thing left to try. 'Why didn't she turn into Sophia instead of me?' she thought.
The water now reached their hips, and she couldn't get in. Who knew what the mermaid would do to her? She brought a hand to her lips and blew a kiss to the pirate. It literally flew at him as a red pair of lips and landed on his cheek near his lips. That made him stop walking towards the mermaid and turn to her. She winked and blew another kiss to him.
The man smiled goofily at her. She stopped and blushed, but then continued. She leaned forwards and smirked seductively while raising her hand and gestured him to approach her with her finger. She felt better when he started to walk to her, but then the mermaid jumped to him, wrapping her arms around him and planted kisses from his face down to his neck while taking him further into the water.
Regina cursed under her breath. She needed to come up with something quickly or else.
"Gina…" she heard Sophia call her.
The Queen turned around and saw the girl standing, supporting her weight against the tree. She gestured her to come to her. She walked up to her.
"What is it?" she asked. She noticed her eyes were regained their color, but it was starting to fade again.
"The trees, I can't see the stars" she said worried.
"It's not a good moment to lie down and watch the night sky, Sophie-"
"No, you don't understand! I need to see the stars because-" she stopped looking over Regina's shoulder with fear in her pale eyes "Oh, no… oh no, no, no!" The Queen turned to see what was happening and her eyes widened.
The mermaid had her arms wrapped around the Captain's neck and was running her hands through his hair while kissing him on the lips. She pulled away and sunk under the water pulling him along.
"Please, Gina. Please do something so I can see the stars…" she begged her.
"Alright, I'll do it…" she replied. Waving her hands in the closes trees direction, purple smoke surrounded them and made them disappear reveling the beautiful night sky.
Sophia looked up searching the sky for a specific star. When she found it, her eyes shined blue and a ray of blue light went from her eyes to the star and then it hit the lake, making it glow the same blue as her eyes and then faded.
Regina watched her amazed. She had no idea the girl could do something like that. She turned her attention back to the lake when bubbles started to come out of the water and Hook came out coughing, spitting water out of his lungs. She rushed to his side and helped him up.
"What happened?" he asked "How did I get out?"
"That's what I'm wondering" Regina said crossing her hands over her chest. Hook turned to Sophia, looking seriously at her.
"You didn't-?"
"Yes, I did" she replied and before he could say something else, she added "I had no choice. It was the only way to get you out"
He sighed in defeat and sat on the ground.
"I should have been able to handle it…" he mumbled.
"You fell under her spell, there's no way you could control your actions" she explained approaching him. She sat next to him and looked at his arm "At least the poison's gone and your arm is fine"
"Yes, but-"
"Excuse me" Regina interrupted him "But, can somebody explain me what's going on here?!"
Hook sighed.
"Tell her. There's no point in keep hiding it from her" he told Sophia.
"Keep hiding what from me?" the Queen asked. She'd never felt so confused in her life. Sophia turned to her; her eyes were back to their normal blue-brown color.
"I'm a child of the stars"
