A/N: Really sorry guys! I know this chapter is MAJORLY late! But it is my longest chapter so far! I have thought of a very evil twist which you will all probably love me for ;) But anyway ignore any spelling or grammar mistakes didn't have time to proof read just wanted to get it up, so here is chapter 4! Clove POV
"Mondays are the worst!" I groan heading to my first lesson.
I know!" Annie sighs, "And first lesson is with Miss Trinket today!"
We are 10 minutes late to lesson and Miss Trinket gives me a death glare (if only looks could kill) as I carelessly fling my books on the desk and slouch back into the uncomfortable black seat.
"Alright class," she grins, "now that we are all here," she says directing her gaze over to me, "I thought we could start off the morning with a pop quiz on everything we've studied so far!"
The whole class groans, but she doesn't seem to notice and picks up a pile of pale pink sheets from her desk and starts handing them out. She totters back to the front of the classroom and sets a timer.
"Okay class, you have 30 minutes, good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour!"
I roll my eyes and stare down at the paper in front of me, the test contains 25 questions about the capitol and eventually the timer goes off and the class hand in their papers and leave.
"Thank you class, I will have these marked and graded for next week's lesson." Miss Trinket beams, but half the class have already left and the rest are having their own conversations, including me.
"So..."Katniss grins, "What happened the other night?" She winks.
"What do you mean?" I ask innocently.
"Oh come on, you know, you and Cato...walking home together..." Katniss says her grin still getting bigger.
I turn away "Nothing," I shrug.
"You're lying Clove!" She grins, "I can tell your blushing and everything!" She squeals loudly.
"Shhh! Okay okay!" I whisper, "I'll tell you but you can't tell ANYONE! Promise me!"
"Okay, I promise now spill!" She squeals.
"Well ermm...he-he kissed me." I blush.
"I knew it! And...?" Katniss says.
"Well that's it he just left after that, so I don't know what to say of what to do or-" I'm cut off by Katniss.
"Well it's obvious that he likes you! So...I guess you need to talk to him." Katniss shrugs.
"I don't know..."I hesitate.
"It'll be fine, trust me just talk to him, anyway I've got to go see you later!" Katniss hugs me quickly and then shoves her way through the crowd to the opposite end of the corridor. Just then I get a text:
Marvel: Hey Clove, meet me at the canteen; I'll walk with you to P.E xx
Me: Okay xx
I meet Marvel at the canteen but he doesn't seem his usual self; he's very quiet.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Yeh, erm well not really my sister isn't very well at the moment and she rang before and I guess I just...miss her..." His eyes fill with tears and he starts sobbing. I immediately throw my arms around him. "I'm sorry." He whimpers, "I'm just being silly..."
"No you're not; it's ok to be upset. You'll get to see her soon anyway, how is Tula?" I ask concerned.
"She's okay I think, she seems to be getting better slowly." He half heartedly smiles and wipes his eyes. Just then I hear footsteps behind me and turn around to see a blonde haired girl hurrying along the corridor.
"I'm sure that was Glimmer." I say confused.
"Can't be her lesson is on the opposite side of the building." Marvel says turning left for the boys changing room. Just then Cato bursts through the door...
"Anyway thanks for before Clove, I feel a lot better!" Marvel smiles and walks into the boys changing room leaving me and Cato standing their awkwardly. I smile but his eyes glide past me as he heads towards the gym.
As soon as I get home I text Katniss:
Me: Need to talk, can I come to yours?! xxxx
Katniss: Yeah, come now! What's wrong? xxxx
Me: Cato! xxxx
I run to Katniss' and as soon as I arrive she grabs my hand and pushes me towards the nearest chair. On the coffee table are two identical mugs of rich hot chocolate, topped with squirty cream, marshmallows and a heap of chocolate sprinkles.
"So what happened?" she asks her eyes narrowed.
"I don't know, one minute he was telling me that I'm beautiful, the next he's giving me the cold shoulder." I sob tears spilling down my cheeks.
"When did the happen?" Katniss asks.
"Today in P.E, I was talking to Marvel, I smiled at him and he completely ignored me and walked away!" I sob wiping my face.
"Why would-"Katniss is interrupted by her phone, she huffs before answering it.
"Oh hey Peeta," she says. "No now's not the best time...no, no everything's fine, I'm just with Clove that's all. Okay yeah, I'll speak to you later...love you too, bye!" She puts the phone down and turns to me. "Sorry about that, anyway maybe he was just in a bad mood or something.
"No the way he looked at me was weird, as if he was hurt by something that I had done!" I take a large gulp of my hot chocolate, letting the sweet taste of marshmallows melt onto my tongue.
"Well you can stay here tonight and we will go and see him tomorrow," Katniss says.
We are given Tuesday off every couple of weeks for students from other districts to go and visit their families for the day. For me it's just a day off because I live here in district two. Katniss is staying here as well because her sister, Prim and her Mother are in district nine, helping out at their hospital, so she is going to visit them in the half term break instead.
When I wake I am on Katniss' sofa wrapped in a soft cream blanket. I must have fallen asleep. I get up the blanket still wrapped around me and head towards two very familiar voices, Katniss and Peeta.
"Good morning," Peeta smiles, "I just came to say goodbye and drop off this bread for you both, before I catch my train.
"Morning, thank you it looks lovely," I beam.
"Morning Clove, sleep well?" Katniss asks.
"Yes thanks," I say grabbing a glass from the cupboard and filling it with orange juice.
"Well I better be going, don't want to miss my train, see you both later," Peeta says planting a quick kiss on Katniss' cheek and hurrying out of the door.
"Bye." We both say.
"You go and get dressed and I'll make some toast for us," Katniss says ushering me towards the stairs.
I stand there staring at myself in the bathroom mirror for several minutes...I look a mess. I scrape my long, dark hair back into a ponytail, dab some foundation on under my eyes and apply a quick coat of mascara. I change into jeans and a light pink jumper that Katniss bought me for my last birthday. That will do I think, heading downstairs, where the smell of fresh bread fills the room.
It's freezing outside and there's an icy wind burning my face, we both stop outside Cato's house.
"You can knock!" I tell Katniss trying to heat my hands up by rubbing them together.
"Fine," She says rolling her eyes at me.
After about three minutes she knocks again.
"I don't think he's in," I say shivering.
"Let's try Marvels house, he might have gone there." Katniss says walking off.
"I think he's gone to district one for the day," I shout.
"Oh yeah, where the hell is Cato at then because Finnick and Annie have gone back to district four, Peetas gone to twelve, Marvels gone to one and I think Glimmers gone to one as well although she never mentioned what she was doing." Katniss says confused.
"I have no idea!" I say, "let's just walk about and see if we can find him..."
Cato POV
"Hi Cato!" Glimmer beams, sitting down on the swing next to me.
"Oh hi Glimmer, are you not going to district one today? I ask.
"No, my parents called, said they both have the flu and don't want me to come down in case I catch it. Glimmer sighs.
"Oh okay," I say.
"Look, I'm sorry about Clove; I know you really liked her..."Glimmer whispers."
"It's okay, not your fault... well I was just about to go to the little cafe down the road if you want to come? I ask.
"Okay, I could do with going inside, it's freezing out here! Glimmer shivers.
I get up off the swing and put my arm around Glimmer, she huddles into my jacket as we tread across the frozen grass. The cafe isn't as busy as it usually is due to the fact that this is where all the school kids come to hang out.
We sit down at a little, wooden table in the corner and the waitress walks towards us.
"What can I get you both?" she asks.
"Just two hot chocolates please," I hand her a five pound note.
She comes back with two large hot chocolates with cream and my change.
"Enjoy!" she says wandering off back to the counter.
We spend most of the afternoon there talking and the waitress doesn't seem to mind.
"Come on, I'll walk you home," I say holding out my hand. She grabs it and pulls herself up.
It's even colder outside now and I pull Glimmer closer to me as we walk to her house.
Clove POV
"See you tomorrow Clove!" Katniss says hugging me tight.
"Yeah, goodnight," I say as she walks up her drive.
I turn around and start walking, nearly slipping on the icy ground. Fog sets in and in the distance I can just make out two figures, as I get closer I notice that one of them is a girl with long blonde hair, the other a boy. She leans in and kisses him, wrapping her hands round his neck. They both look oddly familiar... I stop my mouth dropping.
"Glimmer...Cato!" I choke.
They both turn to me startled.
Before I know it I'm running, running as fast as I can, trying to keep my balance as I run, warm salty tears streaming down my freezing face. I can hear Cato shouting me, but I keep running, not looking back. I slam the front door and drag myself up the stairs, my heart is thumping and I'm gasping for breath, my eyes are bright red and swollen and there's a loud banging on the door...
"Please Clove, let me in, let me explain, it's not what you think!" Cato begs.
"Leave me alone, I don't want to talk to you, it's exactly what I think!" I sob hysterically.
I pick up a pillow, press it against my face and scream as loudly as I can the sound ear piercing. I chuck the damp pillow onto the floor and then flop onto my bed unable to move. I stare at the ceiling for hours replaying what happened over and over in my head, trying to make sense of it. Why would he do this? I thought he liked me, I thought Glimmer was my friend! I bundle myself up into my duvet and drift off into a deep sleep...
