CHAPTER 4
A Lucky Charm
"Where is she? She's been gone all day!" Cookie paced the lower level floor, wondering where their dachshund had gone to.
"I don't know, but she better get back soon. Hey! Maybe we can borrow Olaf's lucky charm and look for her! Then we'll have extra luck!" Nibblet said. Cookie saddened a bit just from hearing the words lucky or luck. 'Oh Lucky, I'm so sorry. I am so, so sorry. I still feel bad about- wait a minute.' She thought.
"Nibblet, did you just say 'Olaf's lucky charm'?" She asked.
"Yea! He's got this book that he carries around everywhere and I think it's 'cause it's his lucky charm!" Just then, Cookie and Nibblet heard Olaf singing (rather off-key if you ask Cookie and Nibblet) some weird, incantation-sounding song.
"What? What is he doing?" Cookie asked, baffled at the strange song coming from above. They ran up top and found him holding his book, or 'lucky charm' as Nibblet called it. He stared down at the old-looking, dark book, a look of disappointment on his normally jolly face.
"Oh, why didn't it work? Darn, oh well, back to work." He said, putting the dusty book in a bag that hung from his shoulder. He walked off to resume doing his job, humming all the while. 'What's he talking about? What didn't work?' Cookie wondered. Olaf came back just a bit later with some kibble to give to the dogs. While he was giving them their food, his bag opened by accident and the book fell out. Once he was done, he walked right out of the kennel, not even noticing he had just dropped his book.
"C'mon Cookie! Let's take it!" Nibblet said once Olaf was out of ear-shot. Cookie, not wanting to waste a second, darted to the book and picked it up. She flipped through it, looking for some reason as to why Olaf would have this strange thing. Then, all of a sudden, the book started to glow golden. It's pages flipped and then stopped on one certain page. Cookie read it and gasped.
"What!? What's it say!?" Nibblet asked her. She looked up, a look of joy, relief, excitement, and pure happiness on her face. Tears streamed freely out of her eyes as she cried out of joy, the biggest smile she'd ever had beaming across her face.
"I know how to do it now!" She all but shouted.
"How to do what?" Nibblet asked, bewildered by his friend's reaction to this book. What was so great about the book anyway? Was it eatable?
"I know how to bring Lucky back!"
A/N: So, I know that the whole book thing with Olaf was really weird and you're probably thinking 'Why the heck would he have that book and what was he trying to do?' Well, that's gonna be revealed in another chapter. Well, hope you liked this chapter! TTFN, tah tah for now! Please review!
