A Future Past chap 4:
Nashi's POV:
The sky was a dark red, and thunder flickered across the sky every now and then lighting up the devastating scene before. A whole town in ruins, reduced to piles of rubble and the ground was wet with blood. It was the scene of a battle field, in the distance I could see battles being fought as magic light up the sky.
My face was wet, I raised a hand to feel tears running down my cheeks. Suddenly I felt someone grab my hand.
"Nashi, come on." They tugged my hand forcing me to turn. I saw a flash of a sad smile and blonde hair flickering as she turned, her brown eyes somber.
"but.." I started, only to trail off as I looked back toward the mounds of rubble.
"Come on, we don't have much time." She said urgently. I sucked in a breath as a shadow emerged from the forest behind her. She turned as the man grabbed her arm.
"Even less than you think." He chuckled as three more men appeared behind him. The woman's eyes widened, quickly she turned back towards me.
"RUN! RUN, GET OUT OF HERE NASH! RUN!" I didn't even hesitate as I turned and ran. I looked back to see, her slash the air and a spirit materialize. The next thing I knew was that three of the brutes were chasing me. They must have gotten around her somehow. I don't know how long I ran, but I kept pushing myself.
'Just a little further.' I though. My breath continuously catching in my throat as I pushed myself to run faster. I took a quick glance behind me, 'T-they're still behind me, a-and they're even closer than before!' I pushed myself to run even harder and even faster. Soon I was able to see my destination, 'There!' My eyes lit up with hope, 'I'm gonna make it!' Then, I felt my body get jerked back and lifted up by my collar.
"Where do ya think your going ya little brat?" The thug that had grabbed me asked as his hands found their way around my neck and stated to squeeze as he tightened his grip.
"L-let m-me go!" I choked out causing the group of thugs to laugh.
"Feisty aren't we? I hate to disappoint but I'm afraid that won't be happening little dragon princess..." he chuckled. My eyes widened with fear. "At least not until you dead that is." He and his goons crackled in a creepy form of laughter. The guy tightened his grip around my neck even more and I was struggling for each breath I managed to get. Soon my vision started to go dark and stars danced in my eyes. Somehow I managed to release a strangled scream.
I woke up and shot straight up on the couch, my breath was heavy in my chest. I took a few deep breaths forcing myself to calm down, and kept telling myself it was only a dream, but was it really? I don't know, it didn't feel like a dream. Slowly I reached up and brushed my hand against my neck.
"Did that really happen?" I wondered aloud. Looking over to the window, I saw the first streaks of dawn as the sun rose over the horizon. Quietly I padded towards the window and watched the sunrise, signaling the start of a brand new day.
I sighed as I realized that Lucy was probably still asleep. I glance around the room looking for something to do when my eyes landed on the bookshelves. As I glanced over the books, one caught my attention, "Key of the Starry Heavens". Silently I pulled the book from the shelf and started to read.
Lucy POV:
When I enter the living room, I saw Nashi sitting on the couch reading.
"It's sad." She said softly not looking up. I raised my eyebrow in curiosity.
"What's sad?" She turned and looked at me, her eye's mellow.
"The story, it's sad." I walked over to the couch and saw she was reading Key of the Starry Heavens. "The girl in the story," Nashi continued. "She finds all the keys in search for happiness but, instead she end up even sadder than she was before. That's why it's sad." I blinked in surprise.
"Yes, I guess you're right." Nashi shut the book gently and closed her eyes.
"Then again, not all stories can have a happy ending can they." she said. "After all there would be no sweetness if there was nothing bitter to make it sweet." she opened her eyes and looked at me. "Am I not right?"
"Yep." I jumped as Natsu popped up behind me. "I'd say that's about right."
"Natsu!" I squeaked in surprise. He gave me his infamous grin that never fails to melt my heart, and I couldn't help but smile back. Nashi giggled, smiling. That's when I noticed something, though I'm not sure because Nashi looked back at the book her smile gone, but I think Nashi has dragon slayer fangs, which might lead to some clues as to who her parents are.
"Lushy," Natsu said, interrupting my thoughts. "Are you going to make breakfast? I'm starving."
"You're always hungry Natsu." I sighed. "Honestly, you're a bottomless pit."
"Yep." I shook my head smiling.
"Then I guess I had better get started." I said as I walked into the kitchen.
After we each received a hearty helping of pancakes, I found a dress for Nashi to wear buried in a box from the Heartfillia estate I had taken for the last time I was there.
"I think we're going to have to buy you some cloths don't we, Nashi?" Nashi nodded as she was tugging at the hem of the t-shirt she slept in.
"Yeah..." she answered softly. There was a knock on the door.
"Hurry up. I want to get to the guild." Natsu said through the door. " Today is the day I plan on pulverizing ice princess." I rolled my eyes and otherwise ignored him. Nashi had already pulled the dress on by the time I looked back at her.
"Lucy, can you get the zipper? I can't reach." I smiled."Of course." As I reached for the zipper, the fabric shifted exposing the edge of a insignia. I moved the fabric over revealing the rest of the mark and gave a small gasp. On Nashi's back was a guild insignia and not just any insignia, it was a purple Fairy Tail guild mark.
"Is something wrong?" Nashi asked in a worried tone.
"Did you know about this?" I asked her brushing my fingertips over the insignia lightly.
"About what?" Nashi shifted trying to see what I was talking about.
"Nashi," I said gently. "You have a Fairy Tail insignia on you back."
