Nothing.
Nothing moved inside the dark apartment room.
My hand moved to the glass once more as I pounded harder. Soon I heard the soft shuffling of footsteps, to quiet for any human to hear. A young man's face suddenly appeared in the old faded glass window. I smiled crookedly and the young man immediately returned it. Daniel...
The window opened and I quickly slid inside. Strong warm arms were around me instantly, pulling me into a tight embrace. "Oh my God I can't believe it's really you!" A low charming voice said excitedly.
"Daniel," I whispered moving my arms to his back to return the embrace.
"I haven't seen you in over 2 years Bella! What happened? Are you ok? Have you been feeding often enough? You look so pale!" Daniel went on with his rambling and all I could do was giggle. His ramblings were so funny and adorable. Daniel was more of a big child than an adult, and I admired that about him. I never wanted that to change.
"Daniel I'm fine. I just ran into a little complication and I don't have a place to stay. And yes I just fed a few hours ago-even though it wasn't much...BUT I'm still fine."
"Are you sure?" Daniel asked looking into my eyes. Such a silly boy. I smiled.
"I'm fine Daniel." I chuckled.
"Well you're certainly welcome to stay here. But there's only one bed..." Daniel looked down blushing slightly and all I could do was giggle again.
"What? You've never had a girl sleep in the same bed as you? Or are your thoughts going somewhere ELSE?" I teased. Daniel's face flushed a deeper shade of red and he looked off to the side rubbing the back of his head with his hand nervously. "Come on Daniel," I said grabbing his hand, "It'll be fine. You and I won't be naked-and I won't make any perverted moves."
Daniel sighed, "Fine. I promise I won't make any perverted moves either."
"Good." I said smiling and reaching up on my tiptoes, I reached up my hand and ruffled my fingers through his dark brown hair. I remember when we first met...he was only a few inches taller than me. Now he was over a FOOT taller than me! "Hey do you have a large T-shirt or something I can borrow? I didn't exactly bring pajamas along."
"Sure," Daniel walked over towards his dresser and pulled out a long blue button-up shirt. He tossed it and I caught it in a blindingly fast movement.
"Thanks." I said and went into the bathroom to change. I quickly stripped myself of everything except my underwear and quickly put on the button up shirt. The shirt was quite large on me, but it was surprisingly comfortable. The shirt stopped at my mid thighs and the sleeves rolled down past my wrists. I rolled the sleeves up to my elbows and splashed some water on my face; washing all of my makeup off.
I took my clothes and set them in the corner of the bathroom before I walked back into the main room. Daniel was already relaxed on his bed-the upper half of his body propped up against the wall and his eyes focused on the television in front of the bed. Daniel's bed had no headboard and was only a size double. If anyone came waltzing in here...this would look pretty suspicious.
The first thing I noticed was Daniel was shirtless. The light of the television showed off his six pack and well muscled chest and arms quite nicely. He wore a long pair of gray sweatpants that stopped just below his ankles. All in all Daniel was very good looking. I was pretty surprised he didn't have a girlfriend yet.
I made my way over towards the bed and sat down next to him. He was watching some type of romance movie. As I paid attention more closely I realized it was The Notebook-my favorite romance movie. A smile made its way across my lips and I rested my head on Daniel's shoulder.
"I knew this was your favorite romance movie Bella." Daniel said smiling. I couldn't help but smile along with him.
"You know me too well Daniel. After existing on this earth for over 1,000 years-you're the one person that probably knows me the best."
"Really?" Daniel asked in unbelief looking at me. I turned to meet his gaze and smiled.
"Really."
"Wow," Daniel mused but suddenly changed his tone, "then I know you well enough to know that you're not 100% okay." Daniel took the remote and turned the television off. We were enveloped by darkness, but my eyes soon adjusted.
I groaned, "Daniel don't start...I told you I'm fine."
"No you're not." He argued grabbing my hand. "You're hand is colder than usual." Daniel dropped my hand and traced his fingers gently beneath my eyes. "And you have bags beneath your eyes. Bella-your skin is REALLY pale. I know you haven't been feeding often."
I sighed and closed my eyes. "You're right. I haven't been feeding from the source for the past several months. I've been living off of just blood bags-primarily because the small town of Forks would notice if a few people went missing. I fed earlier today but it was only a few pints." When I opened my eyes Daniel's face was right in front of mine, and I quickly held my breath. He was WAY to close. I may have fed today...but it was very little. The last blood bag I consumed had been several days prior.
Daniel rested his head on top of mine-causing my face to be in line with his chin. My body froze and I swallowed, trying to ignore the dry burning ache in my throat, and the gnawing empty feeling in my stomach. "You need blood." He stated. That word...the moment Daniel said the word "blood" my throat flared and my stomach twisted. I didn't just need blood...I WANTED blood. And right now Daniel was the closest and most delicious thing near me.
"N-No." I stuttered quickly, regretting when I breathed. God he smells good...NO BELLA STOP IT!
"Aww come on." Daniel's hand rested on the back of my head, and he gently pulled my face closer to his jugular."I'm offering it to you and you're refusing?" I closed my eyes and bit my lip. My gums were throbbing, and the skin beneath my eyes was beginning to crack slightly.
"I could never do that to you Daniel...you're someone so important to me-I could never hurt you like that." I said as a tear made its way down my cheek.
Daniel pulled away and gently used his thumb to wipe away my tears. "I know how you feel Bells," he whispered, "but I can't stand seeing you like this. I'd do anything to help you-and I know you'd do the same for me."
I tightly closed my eyes shut and bit my lip, holding back the tears that wanted to spill out. God Daniel why do you have to be so pushy?! Why do you have to make me so weak? Why do you make me FEEL?!
Daniel seated himself between my legs (AN: Guy's stop having dirty thoughts THIS ISN'T SEXUAL!) and rested his head against my shoulder, grabbing onto one of my hands as I continued to cry. My eyes opened and I looked down at him. Daniel just looked up at me with a trusting look in his eyes, as if telling me everything was going to be fine.
I laughed once without humor and kissed him on the forehead. My right hand gripped onto his tightly, while I used my left hand to gently angle his neck. Slowly I moved my head towards his jugular. My nose skimmed along his neck as I inhaled his sweet scent. Then I slowly licked along his neck, softening the skin there. When my tongue hit a sensitive spot on his neck Daniel craned his head back. My vampire conscious was excited by this-and as quick as a flash, my fangs shot out and I bit into Daniel's jugular.
Daniel jumped slightly from the sudden bite-but soon relaxed, sagging his body into mine. My left hand-which had been grasping onto his chin-moved to the back of his head. My fingers gently stroked through Daniel's dark hair, and I found that the movement calmed both of us down. I removed my right hand from Daniel's and wrapped it tightly around his torso, pulling him closer to my chest.
The blood was delicious. The moment it hit my tongue I felt like I was in heaven. Daniel's blood soothed the dry burning in my throat and filled the empty pit in my stomach. Energy surged through my body and I could already feel myself getting stronger. I kind of felt like the energy bunny on steroids.
I hated myself for doing this to Daniel. He had always been there for me, warning me about upcoming hunters and providing me with shelter for a period of time. And this is how I repay him?
Daniel's breathing was becoming heavier, and his heart was racing at an unsafe speed. Bella you need to stop! My conscience scolded me. But I want more! My vampire nature argued back. Daniel's body completely sagged against me-no sense of consciousness was detected.
I removed my fangs from his neck and right away Daniel gasped. Good..he's okay. With my tongue I gently lapped up the blood that continued to spill out of the two puncture wounds on Daniel's neck, until the wound finally sealed shut. I removed my left hand from Daniel's head-which then fell back against my breast-and bit into my wrist. Then carefully I lifted it to his lips.
Daniel's eyes slowly opened and he looked at my wrist with a puzzling look. He's so PALE! What have I done? I nearly killed him! What kind of friend are you Bella?!
"Vampire blood heals wounds. It'll heal the bite marks as well as help you regain some of your strength."
Daniel nodded slightly and moved his hands up slowly to gently grab a hold of my arm. Daniel's lips came in contact with the bite marks on my wrist, and he slowly began drinking the deep crimson liquid that came forth.
"That's it," I whispered resting my head on his. My other hand gently began stroking through his hair as we both relaxed slightly.
After only about a minute Daniel gently pushed my wrist away. His breathing was still slightly heavy, but his skin had gained some color and the wounds on his neck were gone. Daniel's breathing soon returned to a normal steady rhythm as well as his heart.
The next time I glanced down I saw that Daniel's eyes were closed, a peaceful expression on his face. I wouldn't blame him for falling asleep...Daniel lost a lot of blood, and drinking my blood can only give him so much. His body would have to rest in order to fully recover. I sighed and in the flash of an eye I removed myself from behind Daniel and gently laid him down on the bed and pulled the covers over his sleeping form. I quickly walked over towards the large window and pulled the shades over it, enveloping the room in complete darkness.
I then proceeded to climb in on the other side of the bed myself. I yawned and snuggled deeply into the warmness of the bed. It didn't take long before I fell into a peaceful sleep.
