CHAPTER 4: Why Am I Like This?
The walk back home was hard to take. Especially since Aki had insisted to show her around, which made it almost like a battle. She told her that she had a friend that would definitely be waiting at the coffee shop for her. But again, it wasn't enough for the witch to accept. Was she always pushy like this?
"Please," begged Aki, her hand keeping on clinging to her. "You must stay here, Mitsuki-chan. I'll be able to protect us both... and I'll do everything to convince you to stay with me."
"I really can't," came her reply. The idol flipped open her cell phone and texted Jack.
Without warning, Mitsuki felt her arm pinned into a vice grip enough that could snap it off really. The weight of them were different. Since Mitsuki thankfully had more years of training in regards to self-defense, she did a hook kick and then twirled out of her grip elegantly. Despite her offers, she wasn't going to cage herself here just because of showing signs of being a Psychic Duelist, because that would be insane. She didn't want to define her life in a secluded world here. She was an idol. More importantly, her fans needed her. Even against Aki's warnings...
The pathetic cries of Aki made her turn back for a moment, her rouge eyes flickering between golden and their regular color. Being held back by somebody like her wouldn't help her, she was sure of that. No matter what she could do to her, Mitsuki believed that at the time she chose the correct path. Of course life had funny ways of making person regret a decision, but she had made her position quite clear to her.
Mitsuki half expected for her to say something towards her, try to convince her that she was in the wrong. She had to admit that she actually wondered if Aki was truly lonely. Aki said nothing; only sobbing in the background, for she was truly crushed was what it seemed like to her. She only walked out of the building without waiting for any consent from Divine even. Mitsuki knew that this was probably for the best though and kept on going. Then she simply disappeared into thin air... teleporting nearby to the coffee shop.
Completely overwhelmed, Mitsuki didn't know what to do at all anymore, her mind wandering at the fact that she had moved from Point A to Point B so quickly, so soundlessly...
The air around her seemed familiar and warm, and seeing Jack just arriving himself alarmed her, like seeing a ghost for the first time. What little made sense was starting to make sense. It was only when he took off his sunglasses when she realized that things weren't as explained as it seemed.
Days went by, weeks went by with now being on the day of the Fortune Cup. Godwin had planned this for excruciatingly, structuring every little detail. Yaeger told him the delightful news that it was confirmed that the Witch is a Signer, receiving an invitation to join in the festivities. Of course the words were far from his mind. He was watching the crowds enter and the contestants take their rightful places. Every chess piece on the board was set into place perfectly. He didn't have to bother about it. He had been collecting data about the other Signers for days now. Mitsuki had been rapidly growing into her powers. Thus, she had rightfully gained some pretty strong allies from the get-go, not to mention one of them being Arcadia Movement, with Divine's everlasting interest for the Psychic Duelists. In fact, entering Aki Izayoi herself might be a problem. Especially due to the little bird that told him that Aki wanted Mitsuki with her as well.
"By the power of the Crimson Star, they shall all gather here..." Despite Jack Atlas giving him a dirty look, Godwin could care less of his ward's suspicions about him at this part. He had awareness that he had kept in contact with Mitsuki Shirohane almost daily at this point. He kept finding excuses to get coffee with her. Was he that seriously concerned about her well-being? He knew that without a doubt in his mind that Jack might have cared for her more than an ordinary friend should. That's probably because of what he told him.
Seeing the idol group Full Moon appear, she looked stunning as a radiant star in the sky with her goth attire on. Girls like her were strange. Out of place. Especially with possessing powers of the legendary Goddess. By many names, the Goddess had sworn to protect mankind for all eternity. This was a double-edged sword though as her other incarnations would not remember the duties; making her vulnerable. He did notice that whenever she was around another potential Signer that her eyes would light up much as it would on candles for a birthday cake. The infection of memories that the Crimson Dragon had contained must be spilling out, effecting everything that it had so carefully woven. Once one lie had been exposed, the whole fabrication would die out. But he was shocked that there weren't more memories. It appeared only perhaps roughly five had returned to their owner. However that wouldn't last for much longer...
There was a little bit of time before the ceremony that would be the coronation of this whole sham. Her mood hadn't improved since regaining a few troubling things about herself. Each moment was more haunting than the last. Things that she thought were impossible of her to do were still there. Remaining with the contestants in the back created problems for her though. It was because Yusei, Rua, Ruka, Tenpei, Yanagi, and Himuro-san were preparing in the very same corridor that she had taken up residence in. She wasn't happy nor anger was the conflicting element in this farce. It was the fact that they could have fun like that. They didn't have to worry about anything like she did. Songs were made and contracts were signed, too. She was bothered because of this. Mitsuki had kept listening in on their conversation while she scanned through her own deck and she only looked up a few times.
"How do I look, guys?" said Rua. He was disguised as Ruka, getting overtly excited to the point where Ruka had kicked him for doing such a thing. "Ow...! Hey, why did you do-"
"I don't act like that," said Ruka, bluntly telling him the truth that he had to swallow, making Rua gulp. "If you're pretending to be me, at least do a better job of it. Even Mii-chan if she was the same age as us would know exactly how to portray my personality correctly at least. Isn't that right, Mii-chan? You can totally do better at him because you're the greatest actor in the world... that's what you always say."
Looking up from her deck and shuffling it, pocketing it in its holder, she patted her head. "...Yeah. I totally would." She rose from her seat and was about to walk away from her. She didn't want to talk to them. But she knew that running away was a sort of cowardice that life didn't forgive. So she joined them casually and kept her arms folded. She didn't really like being a conversationalist before gigs. But she would be able to do that for a little while.
"So Mitsuki, it seems we meet again," Yusei walked over to her and his gloved hand offered to her for a handshake. She did so only for kindness towards him.
Mitsuki raised an eyebrow at him. He seemed to still be interested in her despite all that she had said earlier and what she had done. "You're a bit strange to me."
"So are you," said Yusei, titling his head. "An idol such as you saying things left and right. I wonder what's really going on in your head right now? Are you sure of anything?"
"I am completely sure of myself."
"That's a pretty quick answer."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"So you do trust me."
Mitsuki nearly slapped him for getting on her nerves. What the hell was his problem? Every time she encountered him, she had bags of mixed feelings. She really couldn't say she liked or hated the guy. But he bothered her. Literally, he bothered her. Not in like he was a bad person but an interesting one nonetheless.
"Yusei?" she inquired. "Why are you so intent on getting under my skin in particular?"
"It's something you wouldn't understand," said Yusei. "Trying to be your friend is the main objective here. The curious thing is that you don't trust in much of anyone. Especially with your personal-"
Mitsuki frowned, remembering what yesterday entailed, not wanting to repeat it. "Yeah. That's true. But why do you care?"
"You have it, don't you? You're a Signer just like me. You're denying it though. That you have the mark and the whole shebang. Eyes are the window into the soul. And you can read me right now."
"...How. How did you know that my eyes were...?"
"Just a guess on my part. Although the way you reacted clearly said that you are a Signer, Mitsuki."
She glanced over at the others. "That's not the case," she said flatly. "Why are you convinced I'm a Signer?"
"Because, from what everyone else says, this isn't like you."
Mitsuki stared at the ex-criminal, and he gave her equal eye contact with her as the twins were completely out of the loop while Yanagi seemed to be vamped up on idea that a famous singer was a Signer. "That... that's none of your business to know any of this at-"
For the first time, she heard a note of determination in Yusei's words that almost seemed contagious. "Stop running yourself in circles. It's not good for you or anyone around you. Especially when you might be targeted. And I know because I'm in the same boat as you."
Beyond everything else, she was slowly finding herself to accept it. The kinship that she and Yusei shared. No matter how many times she tried to lie to herself or comfort herself from the inevitable, it was bound to happen. Just like Aki said with her powers. She thought that she could hide it away.
Before Mitsuki could answer, apparently it was time for the ceremony to begin. Funny enough, he told Rua to lose the make-up. He then offered his hand again. But this time it was different. He must have known. He... knew? That she was insecure? That she was scared of becoming something that Aki had warned her about? Somehow he connected her on equal basis. She was actually delighted that he was going to hold her hand... this was the first time a guy even gave her his hand.
Grasping onto his brown-gloved hand, she grinned softly towards him. He was pretty strong. Maybe even stronger than Jack. Looming over her, he got closer to her as he began to whisper to her. Yasue and the others were giggling in the background. "I'm glad that we're friends now. Took you a bit long enough." he said, in a voice so velvety and compared to Divine, she was already placing her trust in him. Now she was sure what she wanted to do. She would do what she had to do not as an idol, but as a friend to him. He relied on her. So she'll do the same thing for him. From his raven colored hair with highlights all the way down to his calf-high riding boots, she thought of him as a guy who loved being a duelist.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! The Fortune Cup is just getting started!"
That's when Jack came out on his D-Wheel along with his Red Dragon Archfiend to entertain. As usual. Mitsuki seemed quite bored with the spectacle, to be honest. When they stopped in the center of the stadium, she had to release his hand, signing to Yusei that if she didn't, the crowd would go ballistic. Not in a good way, either. Immediately she noted that the audience were already spreading rumors. Mostly likely about Yusei perhaps even stealing an invitation. Rua grew nervous as Yusei muttered, "Don't pay attention to them." She was outraged. More than outraged. Sure she had her doubts at first but they're... judging him way too early... Exactly what she did. The same mistake she did. If they knew the guy by the way of eye-reading, they would recognize how much of a good person he was. And even the MC was left dumb-founded, surprising her considering how loud he is. About to go up and snatch the microphone herself and give them a piece of her mind, she was beaten to it.
"As a duelist up there, what is it that you all see?" The man pointed at Yusei. "He is undoubtedly a duelist, selected under the same conditions as all contestants. Having cards, marker or not, we are all the same. Nobody here should be ashamed of anything. Rather, it's you, the audience itself looking at him through your trivial rose-colored glasses that are no short of vicious." The crowd was immediately silenced until Godwin himself came up to applaud the speaker. Then everyone else had followed. "Thank you, Bommer, for that rousing speech." He said as he took the microphone himself. "They are all equal. They have strengths and weaknesses. But in the end, they are all equal here."
Once the MC got control back, he got into the swing of things. "We'll randomly pair up players right now. First round is..."
Pictures on the screen swirled by and that's when Mitsuki had gained a little bit of awareness. It wasn't like she knew who was going to be paired first. But the way the screens rotated, you could sort of tell who was going to be in there. Soon it flickered to Ruka and Bommer. Well, technically, it wasn't Ruka but actually Rua who was playing this little switch them up game.
"Ruka versus Bommer! This is going to be one epic match-up!"
Mitsuki's head began to hammer as she looked upwards into the crowd. There was somebody. No. Someone who was worming their way into her head. She knew it. She just didn't know where the fuck it was coming from though. She looked around her. No familiar faces. Nobody was supposed to be here. Was Aki here? Divine? She had to ask within her mind. She was scared. Her migraine had increased by notches until she shouted to ask who was the bastard of doing this to her.
You really shouldn't be here, a familiar voice said as Mitsuki nearly had a panic attack.
Get the fuck out of my mind, Aki! I don't know what you think about me, but please get out, now. Mitsuki's brain felt like it had been turned into mush with each moment this telepathy-esque conversation was going. I'm not worthy of Arcadia Movement nor the type of girl who prefers being caged all day.
Just listen to me. Please. A pause when as she began her explanation. Your powers, if activated in battle, will be devastating. I'm sure of it.
While walking back, Mitsuki got annoyed with every second. Oh really? Prove it to me!
That's when she began to see images in her mind. One by one. It was almost like reading a newspaper without running into a stop light pole by accident. Reports about Mitsuki's power levels. Compared to Aki, they were different. Very much to the point that was almost to the point of that of a God. However that didn't make any sense to her. She was no such thing at any level. Then there were the simulations that Divine had ran through. That fucking simulator scared the shit out of her. It was as if she dueled once during the Fortune Cup, there was no denying that she would be able to decimate a few things asides from beating the crap out of the person too. Mitsuki blinked again and that's when she heard Aki's voice again.
Does that satisfy you? You're psychic abilities are too strong. You can't control them... so please come with us.
In truth, that didn't satisfy her at all. But before she could respond, she saw a certain person that she recognized. I'll give you my answer later. I promise. Once that mental connection was closed, she saw that there was a girl up ahead. Her light pink scoop-neck shirt with ¾ length sleeves matched her hot pink miniskirt. To balance her outfit she had black leggings and white calf height boots. She wears a set of pink stud earrings and a pair of small hoops with pink hearts dangling from them. The pink motif really suited her waist length red-gold hair that curls at the end that reminded her of Julia from Kyo Kara Maoh with bangs that go straight across with her pale skin boosting her moe points. Her lavender eyes brightened up at seeing them. She swore that many, if not almost all of the people she got to know, had styles of hair that related to some form of anime.
"Hey, what's up?! This is surprising seeing you duel. Come to think of it, I never ever seen you duel, really." said the teen, a finger at her lip while she was thinking. "I was invited here-oh, Yusei! Is that you?!"
While she was hugging Yusei, she then looked over at Mitsuki. "You made friends with an idol? That's so amazing! Everyone back in Satellite will be happy to know that you've picked up a-" He quickly smoothed this over by interrupting her with a curt shake of the head. But apparently Mitsuki spotted what would count as a blush. Did he actually get nervous over what she was going to say afterwards? She decided not to think too much on it and take it as it is.
"So... This is a friend of yours?" Mitsuki drew the conversation back in.
"This is Reina Souen. We met when we were eight, so I've known her for quite a while. We're childhood friends and she helps me out a lot" Yusei gestured towards the girl. "She's somebody that I can rely on because she always can keep her word."
"Aww, Yusei, you're too nice to me! I mean, just getting an idol to be your friend too, sounds so badass of you-"
Why did that bother her? The idol was prone to jealousy but this was different. The way that they were play-fighting and messing around with each other made her feel hollow. Reina noticed this and she took her to the side and leaned in, beginning to whisper. This made Yusei curious but she kept shooing him away. Mitsuki wasn't sure what she had in mind as she told her to come to her for love advice. She didn't need advice on love to keep on going. In fact, the last thing she needed was a guy. She didn't care much for men in general. And she wasn't sure that he was her type of guy. After all, she was an idol. She had her group and her band of friends. She also had Internet friends as well. Yusei Fudo wouldn't fit as a boyfriend but as a friend... right?
Then Yusei had taken her to the side and then told her, "It's odd that you were obsessed on my arm. What I said back there at Tops was that my criminal marker would bring trouble. It's as if you... saw something you shouldn't have been able to or thought too much on it."
"Y-Yeah. I'm sorry about that, eheh. I'm just... weird." Mitsuki looked to the side and gulped. Now she wished that anybody but her had gotten the invitation to this Fortune Cup.
Godwin and Yaeger, who were in a private room at the time, they were talking to Akutsu on a monitor. "We'll have all the Signers together. Once we get them to duel at maximum potential, it will cause the Enerdy system to respond. I've installed a number of D-Sensors throughout the stadium, which will apprehend a full account of a Signer's response heightened by the Dueling!" With a nod, Godwin was pleased with this report and told him to continue the good work as he flicked off the monitor.
The pieces of the puzzle were slowly coming together...
Back as the contestants got prepared, Rua bounded up to Yusei. "Meet me in the finals, okay?" He then rushed off before another word. Mitsuki had wondered whether or not that he would manage. She didn't want to see his dreams get crushed. Then again, when was anything ever simple?
The MC looked pretty charged up to announce the first match. "Listen everyone, it's time for the first duel of the Fortune Cup! This match is between Ruka and Bommer! A difference between the ages, but nonetheless, this'll be the beginning of a fantastic day of dueling!" This was when both duelists had gone to shake hands, a show of sportsmanship.
"I liked your speech earlier," Rua said, trying to portray Ruka as well as he possibly could. "It was really good!"
Bommer, however, must have noticed something out of place. "I heard that Ruka was a girl, but you seem more of like a boy." He remarked, as Rua stumbled back, laughing.
"Well, they think I'm a boy but I'm girl enough!" Striking a feminine pose for the crowd, Ruka gets angered by this.
"I don't act like that at all..." Ruka mumbled under her breath.
It seemed that Bommer was the first to go, probably of another random picking. "My turn," he said as he drew out his card to add to his hand." He observed his hand, then picked his strategy. "I'll play Star Blast. This card makes the player play any number of Life Points in multiples of 500; reduce the Level of 1 monster you control or that is in your hand by 1 for each 500 Life Points you paid, until the End Phase." This spell seemed quite strange. Mitsuki used a holograph caster to make new strategies. Why play such a card like that on the get-go? "And then I'll summon Summon Reactor・SK, paying 500 life points."
As his life points dropped down to 3500 on the holograph caster, Mitsuki began to fiddle around with the details. "Oh boy, this is going to get bad to worse."
"How? Why are you wearing such a thing in the lobby?" Yusei questioned, as she gave him partial control over the caster. It showed details of the duelists, of the duel itself, and everything else involved in it.
"This is a holograph caster. Known as a Caster for short, if you don't care for the holograph part of the name." Mitsuki explained as she began to run the diagnostics. "It handles a whole lot of features. You should get one yourself. It's helpful when it comes to psycho-analyzing, especially strategies when it comes to duels. It doesn't predict moves, though so don't even ask."
He read into the data. "This is amazing." The tone of his voice was appallingly interested.
Mitsuki pulled up more information and let him wear it for a moment or two. "It is. I'll get you one so you don't have to wear such mine all the time."
"Anyway, what's the problem?" said Yusei.
"I'll tell you what is. He's going to wipe the floors in 5 turns, max." she replied, showing him more. "I've seen these types of duelists before. You think they're stupid for damaging themselves but then you regret it when you realize they've been using you the whole time."
"Oh. Those types."
However Bommer wasn't done yet. "After sacrificing 500 life points, this downgrades my Summon Reactor・SK's level from 5 to 4 until the End Phase. Next I'll summon another Summon Reactor・SK in attack mode." Having 2000 attack points and 1400 defenses was pretty decent for a monster like this. He then placed down a card. "I'll set down a card and end my turn."
At the end of the turn, the effects of both Star Blast and the Level of the Summon Reactor・SK went back to level 5.
"My turn! Draw!" As Rua drew out his card, Mitsuki had began to face-palm on the other side. Of course, Rua would start getting excited. It wasn't showing yet, though. Because Ruka wasn't the type to be over-the-top.
"I'll summon Morphtronic Celfon in attack position and-" That's when Rua got shocked by Summon Reactor・SK's effect, bringing Rua's life points down to 3200. "Okay... I'll activate Morphtronic Celfon's effect! Whatever number it is from 1 through 6 is the number of cards I pick." As the selection was two, he picked up the top two cards on his deck. "I'll special summon Morphtronic Boomboxen in defense mode and I'll set one card!" Of course, he had to shuffle them back, which he did before setting his last card and finishing up.
"Hm. 400 defense points. Not a good thing at all." Her voice became cold and calculating to the situation. "That's going to come to bite him back soon."
"But Mitsuki, there's really no way to tell. It's only on the second turn. You should have a little more faith in the bonds you share with him."
"H-Hey! I have faith!" Mitsuki blushed a bright red and modified the view on the screen. "You're so annoying sometimes. Maybe I'll buy you a pink Caster instead. Pink suits you."
As the duel progressed, it was progressing to Bommer's turn. He had drawn another card. "I'll place Trap Reactor・Y FI" in attack mode." The read out officially for that card was 800 attack points with 1800 defense points. "Trap Reactor・Y FI, attack Morphtronic Celfon." The bulky green monster had did exactly that. He was blunt as then he began to talk even more. However, Rua must have had the tools to prevent such a thing from happening.
"I'll activate my face down, Morphtransition! This switches Morphtronic Celfon into defense position and negate your attack!" Shockingly enough, Rua saw that his Morphtransition got destroyed.
"I active Trap Reactor・Y FI's effect. This destroys your Morphtransition and inflicts 800 damage." As Rua's life points when down to 2400, Bommer continued on with his turn. "I attack Morphtronic Boomboxen with Summon Reactor・SK-"
"Not so fast! The effect of Morphtonic Boomboxen to negate your attack!"
Her eyes flickered for a moment. "That's a pretty good move. Despite where he's at, he cleaned up some of his methods on a click."
Yusei poked at her cheek. "Might wanna take a look at that again." When she looked at it, her mouth dropped as Bommer activated his face-down, which so happened to be Damage Summon, in which made him lose 800 life points again, now down to 2700. He must be insane or hyped on something because he's just lowering his chances of winning. Even the strategy possibilities that the Caster displayed were even saying he was only widening his defeat rate up to 65%. He special summoned his Spell Reactor・RE on field from his hand in attack position, read out as 1200 attack points and defense points at 900. Bommer attacked and had taken down the Morphtronic Boomboxen with the newly summoned monster, setting down a card and ending his turn. Mitsuki's eyes were spinning as she nearly passed out. It was impossible. Inconceivable even. What the fuck was this guy's strategy? If she had been playing long enough against Rua to know, she knew that it was all strategy to analyze and observe an opponent's move. Yet he kept rewinding his tactics and changing them so much that even the Caster steamed at the strategy, spitting out random schematics.
"Looks like your system got fried," Yusei teased while he picked up the smoking headset as he began to tinker around with it. "I'll fix it for you. Maybe I'll add some new features to it." Mitsuki proceeded to look back at the screen to distract herself from the panic of losing her Caster and having to rely on her friend to fix it up.
"My turn!"
Rua looked at his hand, which contained Morphtronic Magnen, Gadget Hauler, Twister, and Magic Mallet. The latest card that he had added to his hand was Factory of 100 Machines. Considering what Mitsuki had taught him about strategy, he began to get into some strategics. You don't go for the obvious. Think outside of the box or flip the chessboard over. The solutions you can find in it are pretty good enough to wiggle you out of a tough situation. But be careful. Strong opponents will think like this too. You must constantly disarm your opponent's senses by misleading them. When they start to falter, you strike. Hard. With the words that his friend said in his mind, he began to pull out his strategy.
"I'll activate the defense position effect of Morphtronic Celfon!" The numbers whirled around until it landed on the number 3. When he checked the top three cards, which were Morphtronic Datatron, Gadget Box, and Morphtronic Magnen. Then he returned them back to the top of his Deck in the order they were originally in. Nothing that was useful, really. Then he went to switch Celfon to attack mode and activated his attack position effect, hoping for better luck this time around. This time he got a one and drew out a Morphtronic Datatron. Bingo. "I'll special summon Morphtronic Datatron in attack mode!" Despite summoning a monster, he lost another 800 life points. The numbers going down to 1600 because of Summon Reactor・SK's effect. If he wasn't careful, then he really wasn't going to have much left to stand on.
Bommer waited, observing his opponent. I wish my opponent would actually put up a good fight, he thought as he rolled his eyes. For a kid, this one was sure headstrong. Even to defeat me with the "power of the dragon"...
Akutsu was analyzing the reader and wasn't able to get much of a response. So he decided to turn it up a little bit higher. It wouldn't do any harm, right? Unknowingly, it did effect somebody in the crowd, which was Ruka disguised. He was slightly upset with this. Godwin specifically would have his head if he didn't produce any results. "I don't think we have a Signer here. No Enerdy, no producing Momentum...! Are you sure that you are right on your calculations!?" He was getting flustered already more so than he already was. He hated not having any Enerdy stats showing up. He loved Momentum so much that he wanted to actually get this working for a fucking change.
"We've checked to make sure Ruka was a Signer," Yeager reassured.
"I'm only getting a small response in the audience, not on the duel field itself," he reported while pin-pointing the reaction to a yellow-capped kid.
Rua nearly broke out of character while doing this. "I'll tribute Morphtronic Celfon to activate the effect of Morphtronic Datatron, which inflicts 600 damage to you." Taking him down to 2100 life points, he felt slightly better. He still had a shot. "Then I'll tribute Morphtronic Datatron to summon Gadget Hauler in attack mode!" Among with MC's excited commentary throughout the duel, he had a good grasp on where he needed to go with this strategy. There was a possibility that it could fail. That's why he was so anxious about doing this. Because this relied on whether or not he pulled out the right cards.
"Alright, next I'll activate Gadget Hauler's effect, discarding my Morphtronic Magnen to increase its attack by 800." From 1300 to 2100, it was a great increase in power to give him an extra edge in case something went wrong. "Then I'll play Factory of 100 Machines, which removes from play all the Morphtronic monsters in my Graveyard to increase the attack of Gadget Hauler by 200 for each removed monster until the End Phase. With four of them removed from play, my Gadget Hauler gains 800 attack!" Despite raising the bar up to 2900 for his Gadget Hauler, it didn't spare him from Bommer's Spell Reactor・RE's effect, taking Rua's life points down from 1600 to 800. Rua's knew that he would win. Definitely! Because of the difference between the two monsters' attack is exactly equal to Bommer's current Life Points.
Of course, this didn't really give Bommer much concern for he was about to pull off a move that would be deemed turning the tides.
"I activate Delta Reactor. This sends three monsters to my Graveyard to special summon Flying Fortress SKY FIRE in attack mode, ignoring the summoning conditions." With a whopping 3000 attack points and 2500 defense points, Rua swallowed hard.
Despite the chance to replay, he opt not to. There was no way he could crush an opponent like that. It seemed all was lost. There simply was no way to stop Bommer and his immovable strategy at this juncture. "I'll end my turn." On the End Phase, the effect of Factory of 100 Machine wears off, which removed the boost that Rua had thought would be his winning chance. Sometimes luck was a cruel mistress.
"My turn, I draw." The tall muscular man with dark skin and long black hair was tougher than he looked. "I'll send one card in my hand to the Graveyard to activate Flying Fortress SKY FIRE's effect, destroying your Gadget Hauler. Now, Flying Fortress SKY FIRE, attack him directly."
Effectively and utterly destroying his defenses on the fifth turn, almost like Mitsuki had predicted. Well, after her Caster was fixed, Mitsuki felt it set up onto her, with Yusei's guidance to it and it showed the results of the duel. It was way more technical and showed more details than she would have gotten it before the modifications. Strategies were written out and reserved on a file within a chip. She blushed out of embarrassment knowing that he had fixed it up way better than her meager programming skills. Technically, she did more of video editing for her voice acting. Not that she was smitten or anything. She cared enough that she wanted to keep him around as a friend. When Reina wormed her way and clapped her back, she coughed as a immediate response. She gave a hesitant grimace at her, not realizing what was to come.
After the duel, Yeager had walked up towards Bommer. He had records showing of the twins, Ruka and Rua. "If you were thinking that you were dueling a boy, you were correct." As he showed the paperwork, he carried a cocky smirk. "Ruka does have a twin brother."
When Godwin had heard word from Akutsu of him asking how to handle this situation, he only grinned at the image of Ruka within the audience.
After the Duel, Lazar meets with Greiger. He confirms Greiger's thought that he was dueling a boy, as he shows him paperwork revealing Ruka to have a twin brother. Zigzix asks Goodwin how he is to handle the situation as Goodwin grins at the image of Ruka in the audience.
"Hey, Mitsuki-chan, are you holding up?"
Mitsuki glanced over at her. She had managed to calm down from the fact that Reina had requested her to come talk with her for a while, to have some sort of girl chat together.
Reina's voice echoed in the hallways as she was about to head to practice again with the band. She hadn't been doing that as of much lately. She didn't want to get on Ichigo's nerves and the last thing she needed was her glasses wearing co-worker having a reason to be snappy. Especially that their act wasn't the opening act to the Fortune Cup. She knew that she couldn't have scheduled it anything but after the first duel. And the agents tried to settle booking the best they could. Despite being leader of the group, Ichigo freaked her out the most of all. Especially when she was called Megane-kun. Which basically in nerd talk was Glasses-kun. And technically, she was a meganekko, since it would make more sense she was a girl. But just the way that she carried herself around and her speaking terms made her nervous.
"I'm alright," said Mitsuki without looking up. She was isn't the mood for her constant interruptions. Compared to most people that she had known, Reina was the most curious person she ever met.
"You're pretty bad at hiding that blush, Mi~tsuki~" said Reina as her face turned to that of a benevolent smile.
Mitsuki turned on her heel and stopped in her tracks to stare into Reina's soft lavender eyes. "W-What are you saying," she said, trying to keep her voice from cracking. "I know nothing at all!"
As she took her shoulder and pointed at Yusei, her eyes glimmered. She seemed to have notice something that probably nobody else would have, unless they had nothing else better to do. Between the two girls, they observed him as if he was some new species of guy. "You have a crush on him, don't you? That's why you can't speak around him, correct? I mean, you're an idol after all, you would make a good pair," she said. "And you shouldn't dare deny it either. I think I can help you out with your problems, Mitsuki! I have plenty of dirt on him."
"Then cough up on it already," said Mitsuki flatly, impatient at the fact that she knew she didn't have much time. "I have to go practice with my group."
"Well, I know almost everything about him up to this point, so I can give you all sorts of-"
"Get to the point," muttered Mitsuki. The time to play games with somebody wasn't her cup of tea.
"All I'm saying is that you love him and you're in denial."
She nearly flipped out. What was with people and suddenly deciding on a whim that they were a thing? This was almost the same as that time where she had gotten Jack a present for his birthday and everyone had a riot.
"No, I'm not in love. We're just friends, is that a problem?" Mitsuki didn't want to hurt her feelings nor did she want to be having a conversation of this magnitude. This was becoming a little bit far-fetched.
"Of course you are!"
Mitsuki wished that looks could kill. If hers could, she definitely wouldn't have to deal with it. The issue about their relationship that it was strictly platonic. There was nothing more or less about it. "...Look, if I say yes, will you back off?" she said. "Though that isn't the answer you want. Okay. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say I have some feelings for him."
Reina was completely infatuated with this romance business.
Mitsuki folded her arms and sighed irritably as she tried to sort this all out within her mind of what to do about this troublesome mix-up she gotten into.
"Fine, I'll admit it, so please," said Mitsuki, with a trace of emotion. "Don't tell anyone, especially him..."
"It's already time for Full Moon to make their appearance! These beautiful ladies have quite the show ready for you! As Master of Ceremonies, I'm excited and thrilled to welcome them onto the stage!"
Appearing on the stage, in full-costume, they had that idol charm that seemed to be not found on anybody else. Wearing hoods, everyone was confused at the sight of the idols like this.
"In your position, set!"
Music began, throwing off their hoods, showing their idol attire. They began to dance to the beat of the stage, clearly showing determination that they had as a group. Yusei was glued as they began their performance. Now he could he see why the twins admired her so much. She was a pretty good singer. No, more than that. She brought them all together under one force. Yusei wondered how they coordinated so well as a group. But he didn't have to wait long to even see that even. They were in what appeared to be matching uniforms under the robes but there was more than that. It was an attire of pinks, reds, and whites. Their hair was done up differently from what they were before. Mitsuki's pigtails shown with sugar pink ribbons in them with a school girl that similar to of a shoujo manga. In fact, all of them were dolled up in their own ways as school girls, with each having their own style. Some wore stockings while others wore leg warmers or having ribbons or ties in different sizes and styles attached to their uniforms. Some preferred their ribbons in their hair and some didn't. Even their shoes were different, too! Haru wore sneakers while Ichigo wore black loafers, as an example. But there was so much to take in that Yusei missed some details of the outfits on the girls that really stood out, as he witnessed his first time watching an idol girl.
"Kinou made no keiken to ka, chishiki nanka nimotsu na dake! Kaze wa itsumo toorisugite ato ni nani mo nokosanai yo!" Singing together seemed to fit the group, as they were smiling along with singing. The crowds cheered them on, encouraging them. "Atarashii michi o sagase! Hito no chizu o hirogeru na! Fuseta me o ageta toki ni... zero ni narun da...!"
"Bokura wa yumemiteru ka? Mirai o shinjite iru ka? Kowai mono shirazu mi no hodo shirazu. Muteppou na mama! Ima bokura wa yumemiteru ka? Kodomo no you ni massara ni… Shihai sareta kusari wa hikichigirou..." A pause was slight here, before beginning the core lyric line.
"Change, change, change, change, change your mind, change, change your mind! Nani mo shiranakute ii... Beginner!"
Pointing the word out "Beginner" to their audience, they began to separate and play their own instruments or dance to the rhythm that was provided for them. Whatever they did, it looked fun and exciting. They were smiling and performing cartwheels and somersaults with in the melody. Of course, Yusei predicted that the goofing off wasn't heard in the CD version but he smiled. He was happy that at least that she would get to have fun for a short while. He had to remind himself to buy himself a copy of this so he wouldn't forget this moment that he was witnessing. Even the other contestants seemed to let the sound of their music pierce through them and felt the emotions that they were portraying.
Haru stepped forward and to sing to the audience, stepping down to the beat still. "Shippai shite haji o kaite! Kizutsuita koto torauma ni natte. Anna omoi nido to iya da to! Kashikoku natta otona-tachi yo!"
"Charenji wa bakageta koto! Risuku kaihi suru you ni... Oroka na keisan shite nani o mamoru no?" Mitsuki gave a genuine, with a wink packed along with to make the audience go wild.
"Bokura wa ikite iru ka? Ashita mo ikite itai ka? Wakatta furi shite, shittakaburi de! Yume mo hisashiburi! Sou bokura wa ikite iru ka? Inochi muda ni shitenai ka? Myaku o utsu kodou o ima kanjiro!" But all together, they shone like diamonds and their radiance seemed to really impact everyone around them.
"Stand up! Together!"
"Umareta hi omoidase! Dare mo ga Beginner!"
"Stand up! Right away!"
"Hajime kara kantan ni, umaku wa ikanee!"
"Stand up! Together!
"Saisho ni modoreba ii! Mo ichido Beginner!"
"Stand up! Right away!"
"Hirakinaotte, hirakinaotte dou ni ka naru sa!"
"Furui peeji wa yaburisutero, saa hajimeyou ze! We can be reborn all the time!"
Split up in the parts, it was all of them together, then it was lead vocalist down to the drummer. Then the final line, they were singing together. And the song seemed to fit them and the Fortune Cup, is what Yusei noticed. Reina was up on her seat and cheering them on. She was always the type to help others out, so Yusei was glad to see her delighted to see singers.
"Bokura wa yumemiteru ka? Mirai o shinjite iru ka? Kowai mono shirazu, mi no hodo shirazu! Muteppou na mama! Ima bokura wa yumemiteru ka? Kodomo no you ni massara ni… Shihai sareta kusari wa hikichigirou..."
Then it was both Mitsuki and Nozomi together to the second to last chorus singing, along with Ichigo providing background noise to make it even more authentic. "Nani mo dekinai! Chanto dekinai! Sore ga doushita? Bokura wa wakain da, nani mo dekinai! Sugu ni dekinai! Dakara bokura ni kanousei ga arun da!"
"Ame wa yanda, kaze wa yanda, mita koto no nai, hikari ga sasu yo, ima ga toki da..." The group sang, each adding their own unique tone to the music and interchanging out with each other to make the lyrics interesting.
"Kimi wa umarekawatta, Beginner!"
Striking a final pose, cheers erupted throughout the stage, as the idols burst out into laughter and tears appeared in their eyes. Everyone had their eyes on them and as the MC told the crowd about the name of the song being Beginner, she panted and waved weakly towards the camera as she hoped that the feelings that were conveyed in that song reached to everyone. Up in the box room, she noticed that Jack gave her a thumbs-up however blurred it may seem, and seemed to have enjoyed it. She didn't know that everything was going to fall apart in front of her. That everything that was precious to her would be taken from her. For the moment, she seemed to be like an ordinary teenager having fun with this amazing life that she had been blessed to live with. But not everyone viewed it as such.
After finishing the song, it was break time until the end of the Fortune Cup, really. There was nothing more to be done as long as they kept practicing and keeping everything in order. Mitsuki had breathed in and out as she was focusing her energies into relaxing from the high she got from singing. Walking past Yusei, he tossed a water bottle to her, which she nearly didn't catch and uncapped it quickly and began to chug it down. The other idols who had been understudies to Full Moon giggled at the sight of their interaction. She tried to dismiss it but she couldn't she clammed up and wondered to herself. Why am I like this? Reina winked at her and she felt like crawling into a hole and hiding her face that everyone seemed to be targeting her. Even though he was cute she didn't want to come such a conclusion with her heart just yet.
Mitsuki sensed a mind connecting to hers, overpowering her consciousness.
