Watching and Waiting
HI! Sorry for not updating in forever! I hope this chapter makes up for it!
Summary: Sam has been acting unusual. She has withdrawn herself from others and is always disappearing. Danny has noticed her behavior. He can't help but wonder what is wrong. Sucky summary. But hey this a story you'll want to read.
I don't own anything.
Chapter 4
Present Time
Sam's POV
"So you went on the trip anyways?" The therapist asked. I looked down and bit my lip nervously.
"Yes. And it seems so stupid now that I look back on it, but if I hadn't gone on the trip….who knows what might've happened. I mean Danny's the one who protected me from him….but if I had been alone without him….well let's just say I don't think I would have made it this far." I replied. The therapist nodded and wrote something down in her notepad. Danny was looking out the window across from us. It was a nice day outside. People were playing outside in the sunshine. The only problem was the trees. Danny must've been looking at the trees to make sure there was no one there.
"See anything?" I asked him. Danny jumped, startled for a bit, and turned to me and smiled. He squeezed my hand lightly and chuckled.
"Nothing worth mentioning." He replied. I nodded and turned back to the lady who was staring at us. I sighed and knew what this meant. I looked at the clock; 9:50 a.m. I sighed once more and sunk back into my seat.
"Right, the camping trip." I said, and continued on with my story.
Past 5 Years Ago
As Danny and Sam boarded the bus, Sam got that feeling again. The feeling that someone was watching her. She hurriedly grabbed Danny's hand. Danny glanced at her and saw her face. He quickly pulled her into the bus and found a seat in the back. Tucker waved to them and noticed them both holding hands. He smiled as if he won something.
"Tucker, we are not dating." Danny said firmly, but it still caused him and Sam to blush and let go. Tucker pouted and sat back in his seat. Danny took a seat besides Tucker and Sam took one across from them, making sure to sit as far away from the window. She turned her face away from the glass as they passed an area full of trees. Tucker was playing with his PDA until he thought of something.
"Hey, you guys heard of Slender Man right?" He asked. Danny and Sam both snapped their heads to his direction.
"Why? What have you heard?!" They both asked at the same time. Tucker looked at them both weirdly and spoke slowly.
"I'm guessing you have." He said as they both nodded eagerly, "Well anyways, it seems that one of our classmates was found unconscious last night near the forest."
"So?" Danny said looking at him. Sam rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"Well word around school is that it was the doing of some legendary dude called Slenderman. And well they said that supposedly some notes were found at the sight along with her, but then mysteriously vanished when she arrived at the hospital." He said. Danny and Sam were quite speechless.
"So who was the student?" Sam asked. Tucker looked around then pointed to a random girl.
"Susan Scotts?" Danny said raising an eyebrow. They looked and saw a brunette girl sitting in the very back. She had round glasses on and freckles. She was looking out the window and her brown hair was covering half of her face. She was very pale and sickly looking. She was wearing all black save for the pink hairband in her hair. She coughed occasionally, but her eyes never left the window. Sam looked at with curiosity.
"Wasn't she the one who always wore bright outfits?" She asked. Tucker nodded.
"Yup, but later on during the school year she started acting strange." He replied. The three turned their gazes away from the forlorn girl and looked at each other.
"So, do they think that she is being stalked by that Slenderman guy?" Danny questioned. Tucker shrugged.
"I guess. They really didn't explain much." He said. Danny raised an eyebrow.
"Who didn't explain much?" He asked.
"The nerds of course. All the nerds get their information from the popular kids that pick on them. So if you want any update on the daily school drama, go to the nerds." He replied. Tucker then resumed playing on his PDA leaving Sam and Danny to talking.
"So do you think Susan can help us?" She asked looking down. Danny shrugged.
"I guess it's worth a try. I mean she might be just like you, except with no one to help her." He said. Sam sighed.
"I'll go talk to her. It'll be another hour before we arrive at the campsite…so maybe I can get her to trust me." Sam said. Danny nodded and watched as Sam got up. The other students didn't care as they were all either throwing things, talking to each other, or just sleeping.
Sam had reached Susan and took a seat next to her. She was surprised that Susan hadn't even moved or at least acknowledged her.
"Uh…hi Susan." Sam said looking at the ground; her hands were fidgeting in her lap. Susan said nothing. Sam cleared her throat, "Look, Susan…I think…I know what you might be going through." She said nervously. Susan sharply turned her head towards Sam and she glared.
"You know nothing about what I'm going through." She hissed. Sam gulped at the venom in her words.
"B-but I do. I know that you are being stalked." She said. Susan scoffed.
"Everyone gets stalked by something." She said. Sam made eye contact with her.
"Yeah, but they rarely get stalked by Slenderman." She said. Susan froze.
"W-what did you say?" She whispered. Sam looked away.
"I said Slenderman." She replied. Susan blinked then scowled.
"So what? You think I'm crazy too don't you? That's why you're here. You're in some sick prank to try to trick me into telling you everything so you can go blab it all to those shallow snobs!" She said. Sam turned her head back to Susan and hardened her gaze.
"I am not like those snobs. Nor do I act like them. I'm only trying to help you because I want to get through this thing too! You are not the only one whose life is in danger." She snapped. Susan gaped at her.
"What do you mean?" She asked. Sam folded her arms across her chest.
"I mean that you are not alone. I know what's stalking you. And he's not only chasing you Susan. He's chasing me too." She said. Susan shut her eyes tightly.
"So…you know that I was found by the woods last night?" She asked, her voice a hoarse whisper.
"Yes…I know about that. But why? What were you doing by the woods?" She asked. Susan's eyes watered and a few tears escaped. The bus was loud with students chatting, so if anyone was listening they wouldn't catch what they were saying, nor would they see Susan crying.
"I-I had walked to the woods that night. I tried so hard not to…but I did. I was just drawn to the forest for some reason…I guess I just wanted to prove to myself that I was just seeing things…So I went and I had a camera with me…but as I walked further into the woods my camera started going crazy. The next thing I knew was that I was running. But no matter where I ran, he was always there." She said opening her eyes, she had tears running down her cheek and her light brown eyes were looking at Sam's violet ones. "I had a flashlight with me…but when he popped out of nowhere I dropped it and lost it. So I only had my camera's light with me. But as I ran I kept finding these notes. I collected them, hoping that they would keep him away from me…" She said then stopped.
"The notes only made it come closer to you." Sam realized. Susan nodded.
"I made it out of the forest, but something grabbed my ankle and tripped me. I went unconscious and woke up in a hospital…I thought I was safe, but then I saw him outside of the window and I ran. I asked the nurse what floor I was on and she said fifth." Susan took in a sharp breath and let it out slowly, "He'll never leave me alone." She whispered, her voice cracking at the word alone. Sam frowned. Susan started shaking and hiccupping. Sam pulled her into a hug and comforted Susan as she cried.
"I-I don't know what to say." Sam said, "He visited me in a dream…I found a flashlight on the ground….but the strange part was that he caressed my cheek when he had grabbed me." Sam said. Susan pulled back from her.
"You actually got to see its face?" She asked wiping her tears. Sam nodded.
"Yeah I did…trust me it wasn't cool or anything. It was the most terrifying thing ever. His face looked like it was covered by a white veil or something…but it was very terrifying and disturbing." She replied shuddering at the memory. Susan nodded, but didn't say anything.
"S-Sam…if you really are being stalked by this thing…then maybe…we can help each other…m-maybe we can find a way to free ourselves." Susan said with a little hope in her voice.
"Yeah…but my friend Danny can also help. He saved me last night from that thing and I'm sure he can help you as well." She said. Susan smiled.
"I would like that. Anyone who can help me is more than welcomed to join." She said. Sam smiled.
"Good." She said. Susan smiled slightly and pulled Sam into a hug.
"Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me." She whispered into her ear. Sam winced at the human contact, but smiled anyways.
"No problem. Let's just hope that whatever this thing is, can be destroyed." She said. Susan nodded and let go. They both looked around and noticed the bus had stopped.
"Alright class, welcome to camp Der Großmann." Mr. Lancer said, having trouble pronouncing the name. The students all looked around.
The campsite was surrounded by large deciduous trees. There was a mixture of dead leaves and dry grass. Birds chirped from different areas of the camp and there were various different sized cabins. One was the mess hall and the teachers' cabin. The others were for the students.
"Alright class, choose your buddies and a cabin and let's get this project started." Mr. Lancer said exiting the bus. Students immediately grouped and went to find a cabin. Sam and Susan found Danny and Tucker, who already had a cabin saved for them all.
The inside of the cabin had two bunk beds on each side, along with two dressers and a mirror.
"Well guess we better start unpacking." Danny said. The rest nodded and got settled. By the time everyone was done, it was already the afternoon. The sun hung low above the trees and cast an eerie look on the campsite. Sam stepped out of the cabin and looked towards the forest. She couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. She searched everywhere for the being that haunted her dreams, but no matter how hard she tried; she could only feel it watching her. She turned and went back inside.
And just as the door closed, a tall slender figure formed outside of the forest, its white blank head tilted to the side and its unseen eyes focused on the door.
BOO! Haha did I scare you?! I hope I did! I apologize for not updating on this story. I guess I was having a hard time trying to keep it creepy and mysterious. Sorry this chapter was lame and boring, but I promise it will get better. Please leave a review! Thanks for being patient!
