Alright, time for some badass Seth moments. Here we go.
Kendra was getting ready for bed when she thought about checking on her brother. It was the least she could do after everything. Not to mention she was still feeling extremely guilty.
She made her way to the old play room where both of them used to sleep. Now that Kendra was older, everyone thought that it was time for her to have a separate room. So Seth had the entire room all to himself. Of course he also personalized it by getting rid of all of the toys and stuffing them all into the attic.
Kendra hesitated for a moment before she knocked on the door. "Seth, are you in there?"
No answer.
"Listen Seth, I know that you're mad at me right now but could you please just talk to me?"
Kendra waited for a few moments but Seth made no response.
She was staring to get frustrated now. The least her brother could do was hear her reason why she wanted to become an Eternal.
Ever since she started dating Bracken, Kendra couldn't deny the fact that her feelings for the unicorn were becoming deeper than a simple crush. She knew that Bracken was immortal and would stay the same while she aged. Kendra didn't want that. She wanted to be with the one she loved. When she told her parents and grandparents, they disapproved and voiced against it but decided that she was ready to make her own choices. They didn't like it, but she stayed firm to her decision. Agad the Wizard would be arriving in a few more weeks to finalize it after he finds more suitable hiding places for the five artifacts.
She had hoped that her brother would understand her decision, but boy was she wrong.
Kendra was about to head back to her room when she accidentally turned the doorknob to Seth's room and the door opened. She steeled herself before poking her head into his room.
"Seth?"
The room was empty. She stepped inside and flicked on the lights to see if he was shade walking. He had surprised and managed to prank her many times with his new ability to turn invisible in the shadows. She knew that the only way to counter the effect was to spot him with light.
She looked around the room again to find it empty. Then, her eyes landed on something on his bed. Curious she picked it up and read the note. It only consisted of two words: Good bye.
She dropped the note as she quickly dashed to her grandparent's room. She knocked loudly on the door and after a few moments her Grandpa Sorenson opened it.
"What is it Kendra?" He asked. Then he noticed the panicked look on her face and dreaded what she was about to say next.
"Seth's gone."
Thos two words were enough to make her grandpa rouse her Grandma and told her to wake up Bracken and Tanu while they would get her parents. Her boyfriend was sharing the guest room with the Samoan every time he visited.
She didn't even bother knocking as she burst into the room and shook the two awake.
"What's up Kendra?" Bracken asked groggily as he rubbed his eyes. Tanu also raised his eyebrows as he stretched and yawned.
"Seth's gone."
It was all the two needed to prepare themselves as Tanu and Bracken shot out of bed. The hulking Samoan grabbed his bag of potions while Bracken took out his horn.
"Can you detect where he is?" Tanu asked. They all exited the room and met up with Kendra's parents along with her grandparent's who were all still in their night clothes.
Bracken frowned. "He's still in the house but…"
"What?" Kendra demanded. She was completely freaked out and angry. If this was another prank or joke, it wasn't funny.
"He's in the dungeon." Bracken stated in a serious tone.
Without another word, they all ran down the halls and stairs. They almost reached the dungeon, but then the door to the basement swung open and suddenly, they stopped cold. She could feel multiple dark presences inside the dungeon and magical fear paralyzed her to the spot. She couldn't move.
Then, Seth emerged from the doorway followed by a floating figure. The figure behind Seth was blue skinned and his long black hair was braided down one shoulder. His upper body was well toned and his face was adorned with some piercings. His legs and feet were gone instead it was just a swirl of gray vapor.
Then Kendra turned her attention to her brother. He surveyed them with an emotionless look on his face. He wore a backpack over his leather jacket and he was dressed for travel. Vasilis was strapped to his hip.
He cast a glance over his shoulder and spoke back to the dungeon. "Wait until I summon you. Be patient. Your freedom will be granted."
The multiple dark entities obeyed and they moved further back into the dungeon. The paralyzing effects of the magical fear vanished and they all could move again.
"Seth, what do you think you're doing?" Grandpa Sorenson demanded.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm leaving." Seth stated coolly. "I won't amount to anything if I stay here. After all, you people seem content with just Kendra around. I won't bother you anymore by staying any longer."
Kendra stared at her brother in shock. What happened to him? He wasn't serious was he?
"This is not the time to playing jokes young man." Grandma Sorenson said. "You are in serious trouble."
Then the floating man with blue skin behind Seth snickered. Seth glared at the being and raised his eyebrows in the form of a question.
"Forgive me, master. But it is truly amusing how your family treats you like a child." He said.
Suddenly, the temperature dropped again as Seth began to radiate a monstrous amount of fear that made Kendra sink to her knees. She couldn't stop herself from trembling. She cast a glance to see her family in a similar state. Kendra looked up with a huge effort to see the astral figure pale slightly.
"Don't forget your place jinn." Seth said. "You would be wise to remember who you serve."
The jinn bowed in apology. "Forgive me young master, it won't happen again."
Seth lifted the fear and temperature and Kendra managed to get back steadily on her feet. Her brother turned his attention back on them.
Grandpa Sorenson flicked his gaze toward the other man before switching back to Seth. "Seth, how did you manage to bargain with a jinn? Did you know how foolish that was? If he managed to find a single loophole in whatever agreement you've made, he would strike you down without a second thought!"
"I'm still standing, aren't I?" Seth smirked. "Although, I have to admit that it was indeed difficult and tricky to outmaneuver Jafar here. In the end however, I made him an offer he couldn't possibly refuse. In return for what I'm about to give him, he vows to be my loyal servant and advisor for the time being. Having your own personal genie has its perks."
"You flatter me, young master." Jafar said. Seth dismissed the comment and continued. "Oh, by the way, I wasn't kidding about leaving. I'm just giving you my last farewells. There's something I have to do and sadly you'll only get in the way. I have many quests and missions to undertake. So this is goodbye for now."
"No it isn't." It was Bracken who spoke. What happened next was so faced paced that Kendra could barely keep up.
Bracken moved to tackle Seth with his horn transformed into a sword. He must have thought that Seth would unsheathe Vasilis to defend himself, but he was wrong. Bracken never even got close to him.
Seth didn't even move when he saw Bracken rushing toward him. He even had the nerve to let out a huge yawn. Bracken was only a two feet away from him when he stopped cold. It took Kendra a moment to see that he had been frozen in place, like a statue. She then realized that the jinn had his arm outstretched and that he was the one restricting Bracken's movements.
Then, Tanu lunged forward as well. The sight of the huge Samoan charging in like a bull was a frightening sight. Unfortunately, like Bracken, he never even got close. A pair of needle like projectiles punctured Tanu's arm and the man went out like a light.
Seth stared at the scene with a bored look on his face. "Are you finished?"
A man suddenly materialized behind Seth. His eyes reminded her of a chameleon's and she couldn't properly see what he looked like. His body was constantly changing colors and patterns. A spiked tail could be seen swishing back and forth behind him.
"Don't worry young master I used a sleeping drought just as you said." The strange man spoke in a soft and silky voice.
"Good work." Seth commented.
Kendra had to think of something to stop her brother. Being a fairy-kind, maybe she could get some of the fairies in the yard to help her. She could call Hugo but she was unsure if the golem would be able to hear her. Then an idea came rushing to her.
"Mendigo!" Kendra shouted at the top of her lungs. She really wished that the puppet would be able to lend some aid. However, her small glimmer of hope was erased by Seth's chuckle.
"Nice try, Kendra" He said. "But I sent Hugo and Mendigo scouting in the woods for the intruder we encountered earlier with the liches. They won't be back for a few hours."
"Seth, please!" Tears were threatening to spill down her cheeks now. "Just tell us what's wrong. We'll fix it!"
Her brother shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry Kendra, but there are some things I have to do alone. I know what I'm saying now doesn't make any sense, but it will eventually."
Seth turned to face their parents and grandparents. "I wish I could trust you, but how can I when you can't trust me? I'm so sorry you guys. I love you all and Fablehaven will always be my home."
"Young master, I hate to interrupt but we must make haste." The jinn said. "The shades and specters are getting restless. I also fear that the one called Hugo might reappear at any time. We will be no match for a sentient golem."
The shadow charmer's eyes hardened. He nodded and walked over to Bracken who was paralyzed by Jafar's magic.
"My apologies Bracken but I need to borrow this for a while." Seth pried the horn from his grasp and it morphed back into its original form. "I can't have you tracking my movements. Don't worry I'll give it back as soon as I can."
Seth gestured to the chameleon man and two needles with sleeping drought hit Bracken as well. Jafar released his magical paralysis and the unicorn slumped to the floor unconscious. Seth took something out of a pouch and tossed a handful of green powder everywhere. The moment Kendra inhaled some of the stuff she instantly felt her eyelids getting heavy.
"Good bye." She heard her brother say. The last thing she saw was the sad look Seth was giving them before slipping into unconsciousness.
The earth rumbled and split open as a magical force undid the prison the fairies casted over the destroyed chapel. A mad cackle could be heard below the depths and Muriel rose. She was finally free! Now she could put her plans of revenge into action and destroy those accursed Sorensons.
Speak of the devil there was one in front of her right now.
Muriel let loose a mad cackle. "Oh dear, your grandmother didn't turn into a chicken again, did she? It has been a while Seth Sorenson."
The young teenager in front of her remained expressionless. Something has changed about him. He must be at least three years older than when she last caught sight of him. A backpack was slung over his shoulder and a sword was strapped to his waist. Although this wasn't what surprised her the most, what really caught her attention were his eyes. There was a fierce and cold glint in them.
"Indeed it has." Seth responded. "Look, I'm not in the mood to play around this time so I'm going to be blunt. I have a mission to accomplish and I need your help. Oh, and just so you know, I'm not asking."
"Some things never change, eh boy?" Muriel said. "And what if I refuse to help you?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, a bundle of chains shot out from the ground and wrapped around her legs, arms, waist and neck. A pair of trolls shot out of the bushes and took positions on either side of her, pointing their spears at her throat. She felt a chill wash over the area as a tall wraith appeared behind her. She was trapped.
Muriel turned her attention back toward the boy who now had a jinn at his side. She noticed that he was the one controlling the magical chains that constricted her.
A feeling of uneasiness swept through her as she returned her gaze toward Seth.
"Like I said, I wasn't asking." He spoke in a bored tone. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by a loud roar coming from the pit.
Muriel smiled as she saw Bahumat slowly rising from the earth. He doesn't stand a chance
However, the moment the demon opened his mouth to let loose another primal scream, he was sliced in half by a flaming sword.
Muriel could only gawk at Seth who had killed Bahumat in less than thirty seconds. For the first time in many decades, she was afraid. She was afraid of the young boy in front of her who seemed to have undergone a drastic change over the years.
"What do you want from me?"
Seth sheathed his sword before answering. "I don't have a lot of time. Something big and catastrophic is about to happen and I need to stop it. I'll give you the full details when you decide to join me."
"What's the catch?" She asked suspiciously.
Seth smiled. "Nothing much, just follow what I tell you to do and help me reach my goal and we'll be fine. However, if you betray me…"
A cold wind blew and made shivers run down Muriel's spine. Movement caught her eye and she was suddenly surrounded by a group of the undead and an assortment of creatures. They all glared at her and realized that they were under Seth's command.
"Let's just say things won't end well for you." Seth finished.
