Leonardo was walking quickly through the hallways to the cafeteria of the orphanage. It had taken them more time than they thought. It's almost time for dinner! He thought back at his and Mistress Shen's meeting, which had caused by an urgent message Master Yoshi got from one of his business allies, resulting him to leave the place for good thirty days.
Not only he was an orphanage owner, but he also had a famous business company which had earned the trust of the most of New Yorkers' for a faithful service. He mostly did this for the sake of his clan. Anyhow, because of this urgent leaving, all of the responsibility of leading clan within this full thirty days, had been fell upon mistress Shen. The first thing she did was changing the schedules to make it a little easier for her control.
For this task she had called Leonardo's help knowing even he was just 12 years old, he was far more intelligent than other kids of his age. So as she expected, young Leonardo willingly offered her his help to arrange the new schedules. At last they were left with a more appropriate and neat schedule which was ready for action.
As he was passing by the library, Leonardo quickly pasted the new schedule in one of it's notice boards. He again began to walk through hallways as the familiar soft voice of the mistress Shen echoed through the hallway.
" Everyone, pay attention please! Master Yoshi had to leave the place for a month for an urgent business meeting. So in the meantime, I'm going to take over your training and everything else. Me and Leonardo together arranged a new schedule for everyone to make it easier for me to handle. The new schedule would be presented in the main notice board in the library. Please take note that every thing in the upcoming month will run according to it. Have a peaceful night!"
The message ended while the young warrior continued on his journey. When he was near to his destination, the smell of various delicious dishes filled his lungs. He took in a deep breath as his stomach gave a little growl. His cheeks heated even he knew no one was there to hear the little cry of his stomach for foods.
As soon as he entered, the fresh and sweet atmosphere of delicious cooking of their amazing cook and the sounds of his siblings happy chats enveloped him with open arms. He smiled as he made his way over to the counter to take his plate of meals. The female cook handed him over a plate of one of her master piece meal of recipes with a smile. He smiled back taking the plate as he made his way over to the table he was sure his team was waiting for him.
As he expected, seven kids were there still taking their meals as they laughed to a joke of Michelangelo. He was certain the joke was somehow connected to Raphael, as the electrical green eyed boy growled in annoyance. His smile widen as he grew more and more closer to the 'table of awesomeness' as Michelangelo would call it. " Hey guys!" he greeted as the other kids jumped a little from the suddenly heard voice. They turned their heads towards the source and their faces immediately decorated with smiles.
"Leo!" Michelangelo exclaimed as the older preteen took a seat beside him. He threw his arms around his older brother's shoulder and pulled him closer to him. Leonardo giggled as he carefully sat his plate on the table trying his best to not to fall anything on the table more likely on him self from the increased pressure. The kids chuckled while shaking their heads from the 'eldest-youngest' hug. " Mikey, you are acting like i was gone for years!" Leonardo said trying to pull away from his youngest sibling's hug.
" Na-ah, you were gone for hours if you hadn't noticed!" he said finally letting go of his older brother from his 'hardly-breathable' hug. " So it's still fair for me to give you a welcome hug! Isn't it?" from the last part, the blonde kid again cling to his elder brother's arm while giving him one of his famous cute-puppy eyes. Leonardo let out a breath of amusement while a chuckle escaped his lips. "More like a bone-crushing hug!" he muttered as the other kids couldn't help but giggled.
" And yeah, you have a good point! So way'da go Mikey! Now can you please let me eat I'm starving!" Leonardo said with a forced annoyed face. It was harder than it appeared, specially after the childish pout his baby brother gave him. Another wave of chuckles arose from the kids as the little 8 years old, finally let his elder brother's arm go, giving him a chance to finally settle the storm in his starving stomach.
Next day morning
Scarlette and the girls had finished arranging their room more neatly. After the dinner last night, the girls hadn't that much cared about unpacking her clothes and belongings and store them in more proper places. They had being in her suitcase the entire time. One reason for this...improper management...was a missing closet. It was supposed to be in that room from a day ago, but unfortunately, the owners of the company which supposed to response to the order had failed for a day. But after some waiting, they finally had response to their order. The girls had helped Scarlette to arrange her things in her newly-recived closet. It had a shining pink color and a purple frame.
The boys' room wasn't far from girls' room. So when the girls had finished their work and were chatting numerous things while admiring their work, they went passing boys' room only to find three boys waiting for them.
"Hey girls! Looks like someone's happy!" Michelangelo said.
"Yup! Scarlette's closet finally arrived. We just finished arranging! Now it's cool!" Violet said with a rather bored tone while stretching her arms a little. "Okay! Wanna go get some ice-cream?" Michelangelo asked. The idea had been lingered in boys' mind for awhile now. They were about to go, when the girls finally showed up.
The idea lighted the girls' tired moods. They eagerly nodded. "Of course! Why would we ever refuse!?" Kathlene said while bouncing in her toes. "Okay then let's go!" Donatello said while everyone followed him. Well about to follow him, when something hit Scarlette's mind. "Wait! Where is Leo?" she asked as everyone abruptly stopped to look at her. The girls' eyes widen. Of course how can they ever forget someone so important like that? The girls' opened their mouths to comment, when Raphael cut them off.
" Don't worry! He said that he'll be in park if anyone needed him!" he said easing the tension a little which had arose within girls. "Doesn't he wants ice cream?" Kathlene asked. "We're about to go ask him!" Donatello answered her question for others. "Then let's go! RACE TO THE ICE-CREAM VAN! LAST ONE SHOULD PAY FOR ALL!" Kathelene yelled as she took off in front of the group, who soon followed by another blonde kid. " THAT'S CHEATING!" Michelangelo yelled back as he ran behind the bright yellow haired girl.
The remaining kids looked at each other before shrugging. " I'M NOT GONNA PAY IN THIS SUMMER!" Violet yelled as she pushed April and Donatello aside and soon took off after the two goofballs. Others' eyes widen. "HEY!" they yelled almost together as they all began running. They soon joined other three kids as they began to push each other out of the way playfully, while giggling.
They finally reached the exit and soon found themselves outside the huge building. Soft grass touched their uncovered soles. They began to run again towards familiar sound of bell, like a group of caged birds who had just received their freedom. They were beaming from ear to ear, as they grew more and more closer to the ice-cream cart. Unnoticed by everyone they had forgot something important. Again. "Wait. Aren't you guys forgetting something? Someone important?" Violet asked while abruptly stopping on her pace while stopping others. She pointed a finger towards a familiar raven-haired boy, who was too busy reading a book under a tree.
"Oohh!" The kids face-palmed themselves. Why do they keep forgetting about him? It's odd. "I'll go ask him" Scarlette volunteered, as she made her way over to the ocean-blue eyed boy.
Leonardo looked from his currently-reading book as he felt someone coming towards him. His guess was correct. He smiled as he saw light-brown haired girl coming towards him. She smiled back as she stood in front of him. "Hey Scarley! Want anything?" he asked while putting his book aside. "Well, Me and the guys gonna go get some ice-cream. Wanna come?" she asked while collecting her hands behind her back.
"Nah! You guys go! I'm good!" he said getting his book again to his palms. "Are you sure?" she asked while raising an eye ridge. He looked back at her with a warm smile. "I'm sure! You guys go!" he said. Scarlette bit her bottom lip unsure of what to do. She felt like not to go back without him. Well, she didn't understood why though. Her mood lightened as something click in her mind. Or she can always do this!
"Be right back!" She said while running back towards the other kids. He arched an eyebrow at her retreating form. What is she doing?
Scarlette retreat back towards other waiting kids. "So isn't he coming?" Kathlene asked before anyone could. "He said he's good!" Scarlette said while the kids looked at each other and shrugged. "Umm!" Scarlette begin with an unsure tone catching others' attention. They turned towards her while she continued. Unsureness coating her voice all the way. "Is it okay...umm...if... I stayed with him?" she asked.
"Why? Don't you like ice-cream?" Kathlene asked a little childishly. "No! It's not like that! I like ice-cream too! But I..." She doesn't know what to say. To her relief, Violet came to her aid. "Oh! I get it!" she said while others' turned to her. Violet smirked at the older girl while saying, "You're feeling something for him! Don't you?" She nudged her. Well not a that much relief! Scarlette felt her cheeks heating while the kids smirked at her hearing Violet's words. They covered their mouths to control their laughter.
"What!? No!" she said feeling her cheeks burning. She knew other kids saw this as they laughed more. She crossed her arms while narrowing her eyes at them. Her cheeks still carrying an unusual red color. "You guys are not so kind you know!" she said pouting while other kids' laugh raised more.
"Just kidding! I'm sorry!" Violet apologized while calming down. She placed a hand on sapphire-blue eyed girl. "Okay you two stay here! We'll get ice-cream for you two too." she said while the older girl coked her head while letting her hands fall back. The unusual red color which had take over her cheeks once, dying down. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Yeah! That's a good idea! Sara will give us a little discount too! You know we know her very well!" Michelangelo said while putting up a shining smile.
"Okay then, see ya!" Scarlette said while the other kids nodded and left. She stayed there for awhile watching them leaving before turning and walking back towards the confused raven-haired boy.
Leonardo had been watching the whole scene unroll before his eyes. Though he couldn't hear anything, cause they were a little far from his spot, but still he could see right? He watched as the sapphire-blue eyed girl rejoined the kids and said something. He saw them looking confuse at the girl and then for awhile after Violet said something smirking while the kids smirked at her too. He saw as the older girl crossed her arms saying something while the other kids laughed, isn't she blushing? He coked his head a little seeing their reactions. What are they laughing at to make her blush?
Then he saw as the others' calmed down while Violet placed a hand on her shoulder and said something. At this time, Scarlette's blush died down while she coked her head a little, letting her arms fall to her side. Then his blonde sibling said something which made her shrug as the others' nodded and left. She stood their for a while watching them leave before making her way back to him.
He glanced confused as the other girl smiled at him and again stood before him. "Aren't you going with them?" he asked as the other girl shook her head. "No! I just thought to hang out with you. They said they'll bring some to both of us too. Is it okay if I sit here?" she asked while the boy smiled and made a place to let her sit too. "Sure! Why not!" The girl accepted this invitation as she sat beside raven-haired boy, letting her back rest against the huge trunk of the tree.
She eyed several kids playing football in another side while another group of small girls sat in a different side playing with dolls. She smiled as she heard birds chirping from somewhere above branches as few butterflies flew across her vision, while settling themselves in a bunch of creamy flowers, as the flowers danced softly with the blowing wind. This place is so calm. The perfect place to read a book. The shadow of the leaves of the huge tree fell across the couple, shading them from the heat of the beams of morning sun.
Leonardo smiled softly as he watched the young girl enjoying the beauty of summer. "This place is beautiful isn't it?" he asked as the girl looked at him. He didn't gave her time to answer as he mentioned further. "I always love to come to this place. Mostly to read. Cause my annoying brothers won't bust here, so this place is usually calm." 11 year old chuckled from this words. "Still you love them deeply right?" She asked while the older boy smiled more. "Of course I love them. They're my family. And now your a part of it too." he said as the the girl blushed while saying "Thank you!"
"Speaking of family, for what were you guys laughing back there?" he asked as the girl blushed more. "Nothing important!" she said quickly while turning her head away from him. Raven haired boy arched an eyebrow at her. "OooKay!" he said while deciding to drop the subject.
"LOOK OUT!". Before he could say more a voice cut through the air as the both kids sharply turned their heads towards the sound, just in time to see a football flying through the air towards them.
Scarlette yelped as she covered her head with her hands, expecting to get a massive blow to her covered head by a football, leaving her with aching hands. But it never came. Surprised, she slowly moved her hands out of her vision to get a better look. There was the football, inches away from her face. Her eyes widen as she slowly darted her eyes to her left to see a pair of pale hands covered in a blue long sleeves of a shirt, keeping the ball away from her face within inches.
She gulped as the sleeved hands took the ball away. She slowly looked up to see the owner, only to find the familiar raven haired boy as he stood.
Everyone in the park seemed to freeze as they saw the football which was minutes ago flying towards the pair under the tree, now sat within the hands of the young leader. It was an awesome catch. They came back to their sensations as they saw 12 years old arose with the ball in his hands. Young kids in the park cheered. "Wow! Nice catch!" they said while the ocean-blue eyed boy blushed. He scratched the back of his neck. "Uh...Thanks!" he said while shrugging.
Poor Scarlette still seemed to be shocked as she sat in the same place, eyes widen, trying to take in what just happened. She let out a breath, which she, herself hadn't noticed she was holding.
One of the boys of the football team, who was obviously responsible for the miss-direction of the ball, came running towards the raven haired boy. He stopped in front of him as he smiled sheepishly at the preteen. "Sorry Leo! It was my fault. Are you guys okay?" he asked.
Leonardo smiled warmly at the young football player while shaking his head. "Nah, We're fine! Right Scarley-" he stopped his sentence in middle, as he saw the shocked expression of the 11 year old girl."Um... Scarley? Are you okay?" he asked while shooting a worried glance towards the shell shocked girl. "Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine!" she chuckled nervously, feeling embarrassed by her own reactions.
Leonardo arched an eyebrow at her for few seconds before shrugging. He turned his attention back to the kid before him. "Next time-" he began successfully gaining the attention of the small kid. "-Play carefully!" he finished while tossing the ball back to its owner. The kid smiled while successfully catching the ball which was tossed towards him. "Will do! Thanks Leo!" he said while running back to his group before starting back their obviously-half finished game.
"No problem!" Leonardo replied back as he sat back down on his usual place next to the now-smiling light brown haired girl. "Were you serious when you said, 'I'm fine'? You seemed pretty much stunned!" he said earning a good roll of the eyes from the girl next to him. "Of course I was! Cause I wasn't about to get a massive blow from a football to my head minutes ago!" she said.
Leonardo chuckled for a good few seconds before replying. "You have a point." Several moments of comfortable silence passed, as they rolled their minds over possible things to start a conversation.
"So, what were you reading?" It was Scarlette who broke the silence after a few moments. "It's a book about ancient Japan." Leonardo replied while showing her the same book he had been reading a few minutes ago, which he had borrowed from the library earlier that morning.
"Looks like someone like Japan" Scarlette said earning a giggle from the raven-haired boy. "Yeah, It's my native country" Leonardo replied as the sapphire-blue eyed girl gave him a, 'No way' look, before it disappeared replacing with a slight smirk. "I shouldn't be do have a Japanese look!" she said as the preteen chuckled again before mentioning a thanks for her comment.
"So did you met the guys from Japan too?" after this question Leonardo's head shot towards her with confusion written all over it. Before he could ask anything, Scarlette eased his confusion. "The guys told me. Yesterday, after you left from the mistress Shen's message, we talked about our pasts." Scarlette sighed casting her glance away from him and towards her collected hands on her hip. "Wanna hear mine?"she asked looking back at 12 years old, who was now giving her a sympathetic look. "If it's means anything to you, of course." he said while giving her a warm smile, which silently encouraged her.
So she went through her story again, eyes on her hands. She shifted her glance towards the raven haired boy from minute to minute, to see if he was actually listening. She was satisfied to see his eyes on her, listening patiently to the whole story, not daring to interrupt. After few minutes she was finished. She even told him somethings, which she hadn't felt comfortable with sharing them with the other kids the day before.
She sighed at the end of her tale. Leonardo slowly eased against the huge trunk of the tree, with a pitiful face. "I'm sorry for what happened to your family!" he said at last, not understanding to what else to say to her. But to his surprise, she smiled and shook her head. "Despite I lost so much things, I also gain so much things. Like a new home, new friends, new family, new life. It's a courage for me to leave the past behind and move on." she said casting her glance to the clear blue sky, which was only covered from a couple of white clouds, as they moved slowly from the soft breeze.
Leonardo watched her actions as her words sunk deep in to his heart. They rung again and again in his head. He took in the meaning of every each word of the phrase, as he continued to watch the small wild flowers in the soft grass, as they danced from the slowly blowing breeze.
"Hey! What'cha guys doing?" A sudden voice cut the both kids out from their different worlds, as they lifted their gazes to reality to see, six kids making their way over to them, with each holding a rather brown colored ice creams, in their hands, as they liked in to it. Michelangelo and Violet had two ice-creams in their either hands.
"Sorry for the late. Sara had stuck in a big we stayed to help ended up giving us all ice-creams free for our help." April said while Violet and Michelangelo handed their extra ice-creams to Scarlette and Leonardo, who accepted them with humble 'thank you's.
"It's fine!" Leonardo said licking in to his ice-cream, while the other kids took seats under the tree too. They soon began to chat numerous things, while Scarlette went through the little 'football accident'. The kids comment various things about the incident, like, 'how much better they could dodged the ball, if they were there instead of Leonardo'.
Leonardo chuckled from their comments, as his mind repeated what Scarlette had said moments ago. For some reason, he couldn't help but always keep rolling those words around his head like a broken record. He chuckled to himself from his own comment.
'A new home, new friends, new family, new life. It's a courage for me to leave the past behind and move on.' He laid his head back against the trunk. 'I should agree to her. Maybe life would get more interesting after all' He thought to himself, while his siblings began to chuckle, as Michelangelo began to tease Raphael for some incident happened back when they were still in the ice-cream cart. Raphael handed his ice-cream to Donatello as he began to chase the goofball around the park, while the poor 8 years old was force to run with his chocolate ice-cream still in his hand.
