100% new writing, scraped the old chapter cause it was bad and started a new idea.
"I hope you don't expect me to play with that because I'm not going to."
Bone narrowed his eyes at the overly colorful mess of feathers that bounced stupidly in front of him. The housefolk behind made high pitched noises at him as if that made it any more enticing. Around him were strewn other colorful and completely useless toys. The Housefolk was busy doing housefolk stuff must of the day in the back room where Bone wasn't allowed to go- he always received the boot whenever he tried. It was only maybe twice a day that Bone had to see him at all and both of those times food was involved.
"Get lost!" he hissed at the feathers, resisting the urge to swipe his claws at it, knowing that only encouraged the housefolk more. He had been putting up with this rubbish for half a moon now, the cast had come off earlier than he had expected. Maybe Cloud's prediction that he had a broken leg was false. When he was a younger cat, living with a family, he had enjoyed playing with the housefolk kits, letting them stroke his pelt and feed him treats. He had a good few seasons of that, and honestly if he could get it back right now he probably would. But then they had moved away, leaving their lost cat behind to fend for himself. He would never forgive them.
"Blackjack, you're such a downer," purred the fluffy form of Cloud, perched on an upturned basket a little ways away, her forepaws were crossed over each other as she watched in amusement as Bone tried to fend off the feathery menace. "It's really fun, you should give it a shot."
"I'd rather eat dog dung."
Eventually, the housefolk gave up, and with a wistful sigh, he stood up and made his way out of the room, leaving the feather toy on a dresser by the door.
"Good riddance!" Bone yowled after him, flopping down into his nest of blankets and sticking his hind legs in front of him to give them a good licking. To be honest, he couldn't say he disliked living in a home again. It did remind him off the good old days, minus the tall annoying housefolk. Maybe he could learn to like it here and forget all about BloodClan. Most cats didn't even know he was alive, and he hadn't seen or heard about snake and Ice recently so maybe they had given up searching for him. It would be so easy to stay here and be forgotten.
"What are you thinking about, Blackjack?" mewed his fluffy gray she cat companion, giving her luxurious pelt a couple of licks. "I hope you're thinking of an apology for the housefolk when he comes back, because he only wants the best for you and you treat him like vermin. You've been in my house for long enough and you definitely aren't afraid to accept the food he offers you."
"He also makes me stay with you and your unending torment of my ears. Do you ever stop talking?"
Cloud chuckled lightly and padded over to him. "I know beneath that tough exterior you always carry is a warm soft friendly kitty." She slipped past him, her shoulder brushing his pelt and whisking her long fluffy tail beneath his nose. "Give it time, I believe once you really settle in here, you'll find out just how much you enjoy it. Until then, your poor ears will just have to endure me and my endless chatter."
Bone growled, wanting to spit his fury upon the tiny she cat as she padded off and into another room. Soft friendly kitty she called him? She had no idea what kind of cat she was living with. But he held back his tongue. Instead he just flicked an ear in disgust and lay his head down on the soft blanket. He was furious with himself for going so easy on the house cat, but at the same time he secretly enjoyed her company. Was that wrong of him?
He closed his eyes, pushing his conflicting thoughts aside. He would think more about everything tomorrow.
"Filth! Snake! Cowardly Rat!"
Bone blinked open his eyes in shock as what seemed like a black furred squirrel sprang up in front of his vision. He tried to swat it aside, but it dodged around his paws, spitting.
"Bone! How dare you forsake me and everything I have done!" came the high pitched shriek, malice dripping from every word. "You should have died there in the grass and been left to rot."
Bone blinked and rubbed a paw over his eyes. To his horror he realized that the small squirrel was not in fact a squirrel at all, but a small angry cat he knew all too well. "Scourge? What are you doing in my dream?"
His former leader bared sharp white teeth at him, eyes blazing like comets. "Telling you how to live your life, fool, because obviously you don't know how," came the heated reply. "You are the rightful leader of BloodClan yet you hide in a house eating cream and slop. It's disgusting!"
Bone looked around, trying to avoid the spiky cat's gaze. It looked like a typical housefolk place, tall brick and wooden houses, streetlamps alongside the road, and rubbish everywhere. He narrowed his eyes. Except that wasn't rubbish, they were corpses. Dead cats and other animals; some were just pale old bones while others still had skin stretching over them like cobwebs. He gasped in shock, taking a step back, only to have one of his hind paws go through the skull of a small animal with a crunch. "What is this place?"
Scourge grinned, obviously enjoying the bigger cat's discomfort. "This place is my home now, and one day will be yours as well. But that's not important right now. When you wake up from this dream, you are going to kill the housecat, escape, and lead my BloodClan to greatness." His icy blue eyes seemed to flash in the dim light of the eerie lamps. "You will lead my Clan into the forest and kill them all, starting with that cat named Firestar, he's the one who sent me to this vile place. And then you will-"
"Hold up, who ever said anything about it being your Clan now?" Bone growled angrily, standing up to his full height so he towered over the other cat. He deeply respected the tiny cat, but after walking in his shadow for so long, he felt like he deserved some time to celebrate himself. "I'm alive and your dead, so I think that makes it my Clan now."
Scourge froze, only his whiskers quivered. The blue eyes narrowed into slits, of anger or confusion, Bone couldn't tell. But this was a dream right, surely there wasn't anything the black cat could do about it.
Scourge spoke after a moment of silence. "Those are big words coming from a cat who was barely scraping by on the streets before I met him," he cooed with a purr sinisterly sweet. "To my knowledge, you and Brick were nobodies, just another pair of lost house cats struggling to make a living. I am the reason any cat even knows about you."
Bone spat on the ground. Not for the first time ever, but for the first time that he was brave enough to talk back, he disagreed. "I was doing fine before I met you," he growled deeply, his whole body quivering. "I'll show you and every cat that I can lead just as well as any cat. BloodClan will be strong again and no cat will deny me the right to rule it."
The darkness that seemed to be gathering in Scourge's eyes vanished all at once, and the small cat took a step back. "Excellent, you have learned well." With a respectful bow the dead tom disappeared into the shadows. Only his calculating icy eyes remained, but soon those faded away too.
Bone jerked awake in his nest in the houseplace, his fur ruffled and pelt wet with sweat. The room was dark and he imagined it had to be around midnight at this point. Had that just been a dream, or had that been the real Scourge? He wouldn't have been surprised if that had been the real Scourge. The dead cat had tormented him only to convince him to forget the soft life of a house cat and return to BloodClan. Bone couldn't help but admire Scourge's cunning in riling him up to manipulate him, but at the same time it made him furious.
But I will rule BloodClan, he thought, sinking his claws deep into the soft fabric of his nest. He had been a fool to even consider returning to the life of a house cat. Tomorrow, he would break out and do what he had to do in order to lead BloodClan. If that meant killing a few cats that got in his way, so be it. But there is still one more thing I'm going to need from you, Scourge before I become leader again, and I don't think you will like it.
There ya have it, the remastered chapter. I am planning on redoing the next chappy too.
