Chapter 3

The Johnson boys all stood around the room looking at Mattie, however only Ty knew the story that was coming.

"Where do you want me to begin?" Mattie asked visibly shaking under Mike's hard gaze.

Mike exhaled a sharp breath looking around the room.

"How about the beginning Mattie?" Mike spat out his anger coating every word.

Mattie flinched stepping backwards away from Anders and Mike directly into Ty, the cold surrounding her.

"I know who you all are apart from Axl, but I could take a really good guess." Mattie said not stepping away from Ty, whose hand now rested on her shoulder comforting her.

"How?" Anders asked still shocked that she was standing in front of him.

Olaf sat up from the bed, beer bottle still in hand although it was empty now.

"Wouldn't it be easier to let her speak if she was more comfortable?" Olaf mumbled, Axl nodded but everyone else ignored him.

Mattie looked between all the Johnsons boys except Ty who still stood behind her.

"Mike you are Ullr, God of the Hunt and Games, Anders is Bragi, God of Poetry and Music and Ty is Hod, God of all things Dark and Cold. Also Olaf isn't your cousin he is your grandfather and he is Baldr God of Light and Rebirth." Mattie spoke gaining more confidence as she named each god.

"You told her. The rules state you can't tell anyone." Mike said rounding on Ty.

Mattie stepped forward directly into Mike's path as he stepped towards Ty, always one to protect people who needed protecting.

"Mike he didn't tell me honestly. I know because I have a secret as well. That happens to be related to your secret. My father is a god as well and my mother was something else entirely so I know the Norse stories about the gods living today are true. And I know that you are all living versions of these gods."

Axl moved from where he was standing moving to next to Ty. "So does that mean that you are a Norse goddess then?"

Mattie shook her head not looking away from Mike, whose face was a mask of anger.

"No I took after my mother not my father but as you seen earlier that isn't a bad thing." Mattie answered still standing protectively in front of Ty. "Mike you wanted an explanation, which quite frankly I don't think you deserve but if you want one fine here it is. I left when you turned 21 for a number of reasons which I am not going to go into right now. I got a job then when Anders turned I wanted to come back but I didn't, however I did get into contact with Ty and we have been talking ever since. I wanted to come back every time one of you turned 21 but I never did because you asked me to stay away but Ty asked me to come tonight so I did."

Mattie was shouting by the end of her speech, however from the noise of the party covering her voice no one came to check on the group.

Anders started to say something when to door to the room swung open, showing Val who was standing in the door way glaring at Mattie.

"Mike I was just coming to say that we need some more drinks from the basement but it seems you are busy." Val said looking between Anders and Mattie, probably the two people she hated most with her husband.

Anders smirked as Mike grew angrier. "Yeah I'll get it in a few minutes, we are just finishing here." Mike said a small smile for his wife as Val left.

"What are you then?" Anders asked a smile in his eyes.

Mattie exhaled a breath. "I'm a Valkyrie. A warrior of Odin or should I say Axl?" Mattie smiled looking at Axl.

"How did you guess?" Olaf asked still on the bed.

Mattie grinned. "My aunt read the signs months ago, I just knew what to look for, we all did. The meteor shower last night just confirmed it."

Mike shook his head. "Believing gods are real is crazy enough but all the other myths as well."

Mattie placed her hands on her hips when Anders spoke. "Well it is all one big story so it would be sensible to say she is telling the truth."

Mike shook his head. "Of course you would say that, try to defend her. But I'm not going to believe it without any proof."

"She doesn't have to do anything, Mike." Ty said from behind Mattie.

Mattie shook her head, same old rational Mike, it was her fault he didn't trust anyone so the least she could do is prove herself.

"Ok then Mike." Mattie whispered before throwing her hand out pulling all the light for the room. The room was plunged into darkness before small white lights like stars appeared in the air.

"That is the base of my power, but I'm sure that proves what I'm telling you is true. You see while you gods lost the most of your power, the valkryies kept what they had and the power grew." Mattie spoke a smirk on her face. "Now why don't we go enjoy the party and talk more later on?"

Mike left the room after that going to help Val. Olaf was snoring slightly on the bed, the bottle of beer dropped next to him. Anders turned to face Mattie, his mouth open slightly.

"Ty why don't we go out to the garden, see what else is happening out there?" Axl asked grabbing Ty's arm, pulling him out of the room, leaving Anders alone with Mattie, her worst nightmare.

"Anders, I'm so sorry about ..." Mattie started however before she could continue Anders closed the distance between them and kissed her.

Just as they pulled apart a scream pierced the air.
