Chapter 4: Preparation
(Landon's POV)
We walked around Viridian City for a while, and eventually found the exit to Route 2. We made our way to the Pokemon Center, which was two stories high and was very long and wide, and Nathaniel stopped us. "Okay, first things first. We'll need to divide up the gear. Everyone carries their own weight."
"Can't we do this inside?" Kat said, tiredness obviously in her voice.
"Okay, but can I finish what I was going to say first?" Kat nodded and he continued, "We should also let our Pokemon out and get to know them. That way, we can effectively care for and train them." We all nodded our heads and we walked into the Pokemon Center.
Nurse Joy noticed us and said, "Welcome back. I hope those trainers aren't looking for you anymore?"
Nathaniel shook his head and said, "No, but they might challenge us if they get the chance. Can we get a room or two, please?"
"Certainly." Nurse Joy turned to her computer and said, "I'll give you two rooms, four beds each." She typed for a while longer, then a beep sounded. "Alright, rooms 14 and 15, through that door and down the hall." Nathaniel thanked her, and we left for the hallway.
We arrived at our rooms a few minutes later and Nathaniel said, "Okay, I guess me, Landon, Ericka and Alicia can take 14 and Skyler, Michael, Kat, and Alexa can take 15." He gave the key to Michael and he opened the door to our room. Inside there were two bunk beds on either side of the room, with a TV on the far side. "Okay, girls sleep on one side, boys on the other," Nathaniel said, walking in. "Top bunk!" Nathaniel tossed his gear up and jumped onto the top bunk. I took the bottom, and grabbed the three pokeballs on my belt. I opened them, revealing a Pidgey, a Rattata, and my starter, Charmander.
"Hi guys. I'm Landon, your trainer."
Hello, Landon, Charmander said, a male, it's very nice to meet you.
"Okay, we along with my...brother and cousin are going for the Pokemon League." Oh, so cool, Pidgey said, a female. I saw the last tournament a few months ago, it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.
"Wait, the league was a few months ago? When's the next one?"
The Rattata and Pidgey exchanged glances, and the Rattata, a male, replied curiously, How did you know she was talking about the league?
'Crap,' I thought to myself, 'I guess all the excitement got to me.' I looked up at Nathaniel, and saw he was talking with his own Pokemon, as were Alicia and Ericka. I tapped Nathaniel to get his attention. "Hey, should we tell our Pokemon about...you know what?" I asked.
Nathaniel paused and said, "I did. I'll tell the others, but don't transform." I nodded and went back to my Pokemon.
Well? the Rattata asked, tapping a paw. I inhaled and prepared for their shock.
"I can speak to Pokemon because me along with my family are legendary Pokemon ourselves."
They didn't seem convinced at first, but Charmander asked, Which ones?
'At least he sort of believes me.' "Latios and Latias, gender respective. I haven't been totally honest with you." The other two began to listen more carefully, and I continued, "While Nathaniel, the one on the top, is my brother, and Ericka and Alicia, over there, are my sisters, the other four are not our cousins." I waited for their questions, but none came, so I kept going, "Ericka and I are mates, as Nathaniel and Alicia are. The four in the room opposite us are our children. We came here from a different world, thanks to Arceus, and me, my brother and my sisters became younger, and our kids became older."
They were all wide-eyed, and the Rattata said, Wow, another world? What's it like?
"Kind of like this world, but without all the Pokemon." Before they could ask anything else, Nathaniel looked over the edge of the bed.
"Lights out, bro. We'll do training in the morning."
I nodded and said to my Pokemon, "Okay, we'll talk later. But first, how about nicknames?" They all agreed, and I thought for a moment. "Okay, so Charmander," Charmander perked up as he heard his name, "I'll call you Drake."
It sounds tough, Charmander replied, I like it.
"Pidgey, I think I'll name you Arriana."
I love it! she chirped.
"And Rattata, how does Jaws sound?"
Hm, not exactly a good one, but sure. I smiled and got out their pokeballs, returning them one at a time.
Okay, Nathaniel said, using telepathy so he could talk to all eight of us, turning out the lights in five minutes. Get yourselves ready, and then its lights out. We changed into pajamas, deciding since we were still technically mates it would be alright. Once everyone had changed, Nathaniel counted down, Five, four, three, two, one, lights out! The lights went off, and I began to sleep.
(Next morning, Nathaniel's POV)
I woke up sluggishly, stretching my arms up. I felt something soft brush against my cheek and saw a brown tail wave in front of my face. I guess Eevee must have gotten out of his pokeball by accident and fell asleep. I sat up, causing the ball of brown fur to fall into my lap.
Ouch! It was comfortable up there, he whined.
"Sorry," I apologized, rubbing his back and scratching behind his ears. "I didn't know you were on my head until the last minute."
Okay then, Eevee responded, smiling brightly. I gently got out of bed and dropped down to the floor.
"Okay, lazy bones. We got a big day today, so don't make me wake you up." Landon was up in a matter of seconds, stretching and popping his back. The girls weren't as responsive, so I decided to get them up the hard way. I focused my psychic powers on them and sent an image into their minds. They woke up in a flash, screaming, and I said, "Wake up, buttercups. We have training today."
Alicia glared daggers at me, and said, "Never do that again." I smirked and we got ourselves ready. We went to the kids' room, and I knocked on their door. Skyler answered, and I told him to come to the back of the Pokemon Center once they were all up. After about half an hour, all of us were outside, everyone in a line with me standing in front of them.
"Alright, first things first. Since Landon, Skyler and I are going for the league, we'll have to do training to prepare ourselves. The Pewter City Gym is a Rock-type, so the three of us are at a disadvantage." I looked over to Skyler and Landon, "Guys, since you both have Charmanders, you'll have to work on teaching them Metal Claw, the only move that will give them an advantage in this battle. I have an Eevee, so I'll have to teach him Dig. Everyone else can train, either with the three of us or with each other."
We got to work, training hard and battling with each other. I was battling with Skyler, a one-on-one battle between our starters, while Landon trained with Michael against Erika and Alicia. Kat and Alexa didn't want to battle yet, wanting to keep their starters cute for as long as possible before we ran into trouble.
I was focused on the battle, very different from the games I had played so long ago. The two were staring each other at opposite ends of the field-naturally-but we hadn't even started yet.
Skyler made the first move, "Vulcan, use Scratch!" The Charmander, apparently nicknamed Vulcan, sped forward with its claws glowing white.
"Eevee, use Sand Attack then get out of the way!" Eevee turned quickly and began kicking up the dust on the ground, spraying everywhere. The Charmander couldn't dodge the attack since it was being spread out in every direction, even up, and it became blinded by the sand.
"Now use Tackle!" Skyler shouted for Charmander to dodge, but Eevee was attacking from every angle. Every time Charmander tried to counter or run, Eevee would block its path.
It eventually landed a hit, and Skyler shouted, "Now to your left!" Vulcan's claws began glowing white, and used Scratch. It was a clever tactic, letting your opponent get close enough so that you could make a direct attack, but that didn't mean it was efficient.
"Okay Eevee, try to use Dig!" Eevee jumped away and frantically began burrowing it's way down. In no time Eevee was underground, and unable to be detected by Vulcan. A slight rumble and Eevee came up out of the ground. Unfortunately, Eevee came up right in front of Skyler, almost hitting him with the attack. I sighed, and told Eevee to try again. It burrowed underground again, a little faster this time, and came up just to the right of Vulcan.
"Alright, use Tackle!" I shouted, trying to improvise. Eevee twisted in the air and landed on its feet, followed by kicking off from the ground and ramming into Vulcan. Vulcan staggered for a moment, panting heavily, and Skyler ordered it to use Scratch again. Vulcan swiped at Eevee, who jumped away just in time.
"Eevee!" I shouted. Eevee knew what to do, continuing to dodge the attacks until Vulcan got worn out.
"Now go!" Eevee charged at Vulcan, and slammed into it head on. Vulcan was thrown back, its eyes now swirled indicating that it fainted. "All right! Way to go Eevee!" Eevee ran up to me and jumped into my arms, licking my nose out of happiness. Skyler returned Vulcan and sighed in disappointment. I got up and walked over to him.
"Hey, that was a good battle," I said to him. He looked away and grumbled a bit, obviously upset that he lost his first real battle. I placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Hey don't worry, it was just one battle. Besides there is a saying, 'The student eventually surpasses the master.' Just keep practicing and you'll get it eventually."
Skyler smiled at me and I pat his back, laughing a bit. We went back to the Pokemon Center, the others already finishing up their battles as well, so that we could heal our Pokemon and head out to Viridian Forest.
Okay, so NOW they're going into Viridian Forest. The story is based on the game, but I'll be sure to throw twists in from time to time. R&R, PM, and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.
